Heathrow is a disorganized mess in a horrible part of town.

If you really want to enjoy visiting overseas/abroad/Europe, go stay in rural areas that's close to urban cities. No joke, cities overseas can be freaking annoying and irritating. Case in point, Paris, Frankfurt, Holland for example. Too many people and very very rude, especially Paris. Rural areas have nothing but clean air, minimal traffic, courteous people and plenty of parking space. And there are plenty of historical landmarks to see especially in Germany and England. If you want to club and party + pick up chicks, by all means, the city is what you want. If you like smoking Ganja then Holland is where you want. Its freaking legal.
Frankfurt has to be one of the ugliest cities on the planet - I would never go there unless required.

Very few German cities are what you might consider charming or beautiful - Munich might be the exception. German villages are much nicer.

In Nigeria, it's no problem at all to find a family member to take care of our children. Abroad, it's an entirely different kettle of fish:
1. your family may not be in the same city or country
2. if they were in the same town, they've all got to get to work innit? Still nobody home to take care of kids
3. everyone is over-stretched and over-worked. It's not easy starting from the bottom as an immigrant

We love our kids and have close family ties, that is undeniable, but na condition bend crayfish
If your circumstances change then your mentality must also change. That would mean not spending weeks away from your children if you do not have someone else to care for them

I don't mean to pick on Nigerians for the record, every week there is a tale (usually in the Daily Mail) of a mother leaving her children at home for weeks (or months) so that she can go on holiday.

ok....sorry for that...

and besides..thats not what i meant..that "fend"...for themselves.....i dint mean that..

read my comment again...u will noticed i said..at least the mother might have gotten the fridge stock up with food for at least two weeks na.....understand me.

then at least the kid of 13yrs should do the cooking and can take care of his/her self with the younger one when the mother is not around...

i for one will spank my kids...if at the age of 13....they cant cook properly...or at least range the sitting room when scattered...seriously...

but in the other part...i wasnt supporting the woman....get me wright ok....

and thanks for the reply tho...but u quick dey vex oo...lols
No worries.

But are you saying that you would spank a 13 year old because you did not effectively teach them how to cook?

And that you would leave a 13 year old, home alone, for weeks?

Aren't you Nigerians always going on about how you love your families, have close links with your families, especially compared to the oyinbos? Why, if you have such a close knight unit, can you not find a family member to take care of your children for a few weeks?

What kind of love is that? To leave children home alone for weeks.

Very strict - heavy screening for drugs (which is to be expected) but also meat and plants - they are very wary about importing plant borne disease or other diseases that will impact on the Australian wild life or their domestic agriculture.

Good question! While you keep asking, ask again why some of the successful people that hold posh government portfolios and offices studied abroad.
Because they foresaw an opportunity, some legitimate, others less so.

Nigeria has the chance to turn itself into a great nation but that would entail letting go of some of the odd practices and ideas that hold back progress.

Our people can like mediocrity. MMA is the poorest airport ever. Going through other countries airports puts it all into proper perspective.

One of the most beautiful airports I have passed through is Madrid's Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport. Wow, architectural masterpiece. That airport is only second to Heathrow in my experience. Next is Charles de Gaulle, Roissy, Paris. Even our tiny Dyce here is better organised than MMA, tueh!

When it is not as if the money no dey.
You attack Nigerians for enjoying mediocrity then mention Heathrow in the next breath?

See definition of irony.

MMA, in my experience, is currently the worst run airport in Nigeria.

MMA2 is fine.

That is why most people travel abroad and never come back to Nigeria. When will Nigeria be like these developed countries?
The problem with Nigeria is cultural - Nigeria has everything needed to be a wonderful place, the problem is the culture.

People insist on passing down their unfortunate cultural traits to their children (of which they have too many) and then lament the state of the nation. They fail to understand their own role in the destruction of their homeland.

My hope is that there is a mass exodus of some sort (or an event that relieves the population burden) so that the country can be built up into what it should be, both from an infrastructure and cultural standpoint. At the moment there are too many people within that country clinging to their idiotic practices that will get in the way of progress.

P.S.
Someone in here made an interesting point about the Australians being "humble" by wearing short pants and sandals - that isn't "humble", in 30 degrees Celcius it makes sense to wear light/minimal clothing. This is one of my primary issues with Nigerians/Nigerian culture - the impractical nature of the society. The resources are there but the mentality, sadly, is not.

i blame the kids.....13 and 10 years old??....

u mean these kids couldnt keep the house clean and get the house heated??...@13??...realy??....if am not mistaken the years...those kids must be dumb....

cos i know the mother must have left food in the fridge or store some foods for them to survive on..for the next two weeks....

a true Nigerian kid...at age 13....can even do more than expected from any kid of this age around the world....

those Yankee trained Nigeria kids are just too dumb for my liking....

come naija...u see seven years old setting the gas cooker...putting food on the fire....and can even cook indomie.....

trust me.....
Your comment highlights a common issue in Nigerian culture - namely, ignorance of the term 'parental responsibility'. It is why so many of you will find yourselves in hot water should you travel abroad holding onto your savage and destructive parental practices.

The Bible has also been used as justification for murder, slavery and the overall disregard for human life.

Does anyone know if Nigerian churches do anything besides pray about the needs of the nation and/or allowing their services to be used as a photo opportunity by political candidates?

By that I mean to ask, have any of them organized people so as to make it easier for people to engage their political representatives and enable their members to take part in the 'democratic' process?

Thanks.

Much of the problem has its roots in your final line.

People who feel the need to plead to 'god(s)' are not ready for democracy - democracy entails promises made being kept; in addition to holding other human beings to account for their decisions. There is no supernatural power involved.

My questions:

1. What is ''Hausa-Fulani''? How can two distinct ethnic groups be grouped as one? Where else in the world has this happened?
2. What does an Hausa man/woman think of a Fulani man/woman?
3. What does the average northerner think about the northern elites?
4. Is the North better off on its own or as being in Nigeria with the south?
5. RELIGION: why does average northern Muslims assume that they can make every other Nigerian become a Muslim?
6. Do Northern Muslims hate Igbos? If so, why?
7. What does the average non-violent northerner think when he sees southerners being killed in many of killing sprees that have gone on in the North?
To answer question (1) - meet the Anglo-Saxons

The Anglo-Saxons were a people who inhabited Great Britain from the 5th century. They included people from Germanic tribes who migrated to the island from continental Europe, and their descendants; as well as indigenous British groups who adopted some aspects of Anglo-Saxon culture and language.

A truly Federal system is what is needed - I don't care who the President is.

The Federal government needs to be weakened, the amount that they extract from the states' resources should be slashed.

Those states that cannot survive without suckling from the Federal teat should be made to amalgamate.

When women have the opportunity they are just as reckless with their bodies.

I'm not sure how people make the claim that women don't have self control issues in light of all the tales of abortions and abandoned babies.

Akwa Ibom ? I wont doubt it but I haven't heard anything from Enugu and Cross River? I said Anambra because of the man Obiano...The man is very aggressive you might even say desperate to lift the state high.
Cross River has had back-to-back competent leaders at state level and the level of corruption appears to be significantly less than elsewhere. They seem to have gotten into a stride of rational leaders even though the allocation from the Federal government that they now get has been reduced.

I added Enugu because of what I've seen on the ground when I was last there. It's possible that I got an overwhelmingly positive impression of the state but many of the same positives that can be found in Uyo are also evident in Enugu. It doesn't hurt that the city has a number of enterprising citizens.

But the north doesn't want a weak center because that will expose their dependence on the southern oil. They want an arrangement where they can have a say on how the oil money is distributed. Presently,Kaduna,Kano and Sokoto has no oil but they get more than Abia and Imo put together....Now,about states taking care of their energy needs alot of states are already doing it but you kniw these things take time and lots of money...But I can promise you that a state like Anambra will soon get there.
I would guess that the reason that you gave is correct.

As to your claim that Anambra would succeed in providing power within its borders, I suspect that Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Cross River would also find a way.

Why do average Nigerian keep thinking Nigeria is a rich countryhuh Are you people that dumb?? Because they hear Nigeria has crude oil they erroneously think that makes Nigeria rich. You are living beyond your means...Senators and Reps members earn more than some local government can afford, annually. Your schools are in their worst states, hospitals are butcher houses and 4/5 of your roads are death traps. The oil Nigeria have will not be enough if you factor your huge population and demand for basic amenities. Nigeria need to start living within their means...Okonjo Iweala said this.
There is enough if you use it well. What you said about the politicians is correct which is why I would like to see a weaker Federal government and the Senators and Reps made to earn much lower salaries.

The Nigerian civil service as a whole is too bloated and cumbersome.
