Lol i know that. The channels could develop their online platforms too. In the near future the likes of Netflix and streaming networks may replace cable tv altogether. So many advantages

Marvel recently bought back the rights to Blade, Ghost Rider and The Punisher. There is talk that one of the three might feature in Season 2 of Daredevil. Who would you rather see? I'd personally like Punisher to appear. He shares many similarities with Daredevil and is the type of hard boiled hero that might survive Hell's Kitchen.
Watching season 1 again, anyone notice the sniper that took out the detective at the warehouse...could that be Bullseye? Also Foggy mentioned Matt's high school greek girlfriend...i'm thinking Elektra. Hope those two feature in season 2

Marco Polo.

Not bad. Kind of cheesy, not the kind of drama one would expect from the coffers of Netflix, but all the same, well worth the 10 hours (non-consecutive) I spent binging on it. Bravo, Netflix, Bravo!
Netflix is great for bingeing. I wish all shows were on Netflix, watch the entire thing once and for all. Not this weekly nonsense

So, I read the Blood Song by Anthony Ryan. I just finished it and I admit that it's an entertaining book. Quite different from R. A. Salvatore's work. I particularly enjoyed the ending, the suspense that was built up and the intrigue that came with the revelation of the witcher's son. However, it was nothing like The Furies of Calderon from Codex Alera, which is what I was expecting. Shrug. Anyway, the first time Vaelin met his half sister, he made a comment about wondering why his father did something and how he now knew. That part didn't make full sense to me. What was he talking about?
I've looked for the second book. I couldn't find it from my trusted sites. Anyway, I guess I have to use torrents which I can't do with my iPhone. Could anybody help me with it somehow? Thanks.
In the meantime, I'll be reading The Martian by Andy Weir and probably The Blood of Olympus after that.
You could pm me so i can send the 2nd book to your mail. I've tried so hard to get into Salvatore without success. What book of his do you recommend i start with, preferably something dark and heavy. I have to check that passage you mentioned again, is it the one where he meets her gathering flowers?

it was about a man who wanted to marry a beautiful wife but had to fight other contestant in the dark I remember somebody cheated the(main bad guy) by wearing a chain mail. Can't remember much more
I'll be reading all your recommendation soon as i get them, am starting with Wole soyinka though have to see what the hype is all about.
Thanks.
That was Passport of Mallam Ilia, lovely book. Good luck with your reading and if you find any more african gems please let me know

For some very strange reason, I haven't yet figured out why i find it very difficult to read a book written by a Nigerian or an African writer I think the only ones i have read are recommended reading for my Junior Waec and my personal favorite Bassey and company.
I tried reading famished road by ben okri but it got so weird I had to stop.
Maybe eventually I would overcome this hump and try to read some,so please recommend your favorite novel written by people from this continent.
I totally get you bro, it's not strange at all. If you compare the number of western novels i read to the african books, the ratio is about 1000:1, and i liked very few out of that little ratio. I plan to read more widely from the pool of African authors soon though. Just saying this so you won't take my personal favourites as a definitive guide.
Since we got that out of the way, here goes..

Chaka by Thomas Mofolo. If you're looking for a classic rise and fall adventure story minus the happy ending, this is it.

An African Night's Entertainment by Cyprian Ekwensi. I have to say Cyprian is my favourite Nigerian author of all time and this is my favourite book of his. So i'm probably biased here grin

Time Changes Yesterday by Nyengi Koin. I had to choose between this and Second Chance, in the end i went for it. Romance, coming of age story, it's good, very good

A Grain of Wheat by Ngugi Wa Thiongo. Of all the anti-colonial books written by Africans, i think this is the best. It has some disorienting flashbacks though so be prepared

Memoirs of A Porcupine by Alain Mabanckou. It's funny as hell yet so deep, i think he meant it as a satire. And yes, it's about a porcupine, don't worry it's not just the porcupine. The main problem with the book is his writing style. There are no commas, or full stops. Takes some getting used to but when you do it's worth it. If you don't dig it, try Broken Glass by the same guy

Dust by Yvonne Owuor. Best book i've read recently by an african author. If i have to include someone contemporary, she's my pick. The books strength is the beautiful descriptions, they're so rich that when you're done it feels like you actually visited Kenya.

Now for plays, i love plays so i'll have to include some. Most of the ones i know are by nigerian authors so that's why it's like this. I'll pick Holding Talks by Ola Rotimi, just cos it was a play about nothing really. Morountodon and Other Plays and Twingle Twangle by Femi Osofisan just cos it's Osofisan. Death of A King's Horseman by Wole Soyinka, oh and Trials of Brother Jero too. Finally i'll pick The Ozidi Saga by John Pepper Clark, cos it's the closest african work i've seen to The Odyssey, and no i am not exaggerating.
I would have added The Palm wine Drinkard by Amos Tutuola but since you didn't enjoy Famished Road, maybe not cos they're kinda similar

She is a professor in the US, has lived there most of her life. What do you expect? When will we see homegrown Nigerian writers with no affiliations to First World countries?
Yea i checked up on her bio afterwards. She's not as new as i thought, won her fair share of awards too
I agree, it's a problem when most of a nation's best writers are those in diaspora. It would be easier to understand if Nigeria had an oppresive military regime and all the intellectuals were in exile but that's not the case. I think the background is important, it's easier to suceed abroad definitely. It is no coincidence that Chimamanda Adichie, Helon Habila, Sefi Atta and Teju Cole all have postgraduate links to foreign universities. There they get exposure, constructive literary criticism and inevitably a loyal following of fans who have read and liked their work. We lack all three here in Nigeria. The publishing houses have the odds stacked against them here while our universities are more concerned with nepotism and mediocrity. Our reading culture isn't great either. Maybe with the rise of self publishing we'll get to see more voices from home. If anything can bridge the gap, it's the internet

Agent Carter was cool, my standouts are Peggy of course and Jarvis, especially Jarvis. Didn't much care for Stark, felt the show could have had less of him, and more fights like Dottie-Peggy. Seriously Season 2 needs more throwdowns. All in all i enjoyed it, still prefer AoS though, maybe unfair cos i'm comparing AoS season 2 to AC season 1

Currently reading Lagoon by Nnendi Okorafor. 5 stars!
Let me start by saying i'm underwhelmed by the current generation of nigerian writers. That's not because they're not good, far from it, but because they don't generally write mind-bending, genre defining, original stuff. You can see them mostly following the well trodden paths of Achebe, Soyinka, Emecheta, Alkali and the other greats. This is not neccessarily a bad thing,we've carved our own niche in the literary world, we just don't branch out very often.
So when i saw a nigerian book on the list of best science fiction books of 2014 i had to do a double check. Yes, aliens in lagos, i was not dreaming, wonderful! The book is refreshingly different and original. One of those cannot-put-down books; i can't hype it enough. Expecting great things from this author now cos i'm officially a fan. Even went to buy the book on amazon which is a rarity for me grin What can i say, she's "one of our own" and needs all the support she can get.

Just saw AoU and AoS finale back to back. Here are some thoughts.
AoU while not as good as was hyped was better than was expected given the negative reviews here. Ultron was a stupid villain who started out menacing but d longer the film progressed d more annoying a character he was and his plan was all kinds of stupid. What stood out for me was d aftermath of the battle in wakanda, seeing d teams fear and how they relate coupled with Clint Barton family. That elevated this film from being a complete suckfest.
on power levels, vision is definitely the strongest. Created with vibranium, woken by Thor's thunder, memory speed of Jarvis and to top it all powered by an infinity stone. I think since d avengers next villain is going to b Thanos and since d team can't last a second against him they needed to create a hero that would b believable in taking him down
note the next Thor film is called Ragnarok and is speculated as Thanos wrecking d shit out of d asgardians to regain control of d tesseract.
AoS has continued to grow and is rapidly becoming one of my favorite series esp compared to show terrible it was. Looking forward to d new season. Skye aka Daisy Johnson becoming head of something like d secret avengers is what I'm pumped for and how d show will play with civil war is another point of interest.
on civil war, it is said to b superhuman regulation and not registration that causes d friction.
Ultron was never menacing for me, but that was never a problem. His character was interesting and refreshingly different to the villains we've come to expect. Agree with everything except for Ultron's plan. It made more sense to me than Loki's plan in Avengers' where he brought the most useless alien army that was ever created. My favourite parts were the visions they saw.
Vision is a step up, guess we'll be seeing more heroes at his power level with Dr Strange and Captain Marvel.
I hope Skye makes it to Civi War. Who do you think will make up her secret avengers team?

True. Recently finished it and didn't feel it like TWOK until the end when they clashed with the Voidbringers. Might have to go back and re read from that chapter sef. The fight between Kal and Szeth was super cool.

There are a few things I still didn't get like when Renarin went to help Adolin in the duel. I thought pattern was behind the screeching voice as he was sent to distract the other duelist facing Ren.

I don't get the very end too. Let me not do too much spoilers for you cool

abomination and hulk only fought one round and the hulk won.
i think we already have political intrigue with the thor movies trying to merge super hero stuff with court intrigue doesn't go together this is partly the reason why the thor movies sucked.
i don't know much about the inhuman and all remember about the black panther is that he married Storm i'll try to improve my knowledge till then black widow for me.
Only one round? Damn i have to watch the movie again soon.
The best part of both Thor movies was Asgard and court intrigues. Yeu sucked when the pov shifted to earth. I hate that Jane Foster was involved, her arc ruined the movies for me. The only thing exciting about Thor 3 for me is that it will not have any connection with earth..i hope

I was trying to avoid spoilers but he was able to punch the hulk out cold.
Iron man won that fight.
If they ramp up power levels then we'll get the "quicksilver from xmen apocalypse " that guy could have made that movie shorter.
I know next to nothing about black bolt and the inhumans they just don't interest me.
Same goes for black panther,
I rather watch a movie about black widow her past in russia, relationship with hawkeye and how she joined shield.
Thanos is Marvel answer to darkseid
So I think he'll be too strong kill
the avengers have to face overwhelming odds too much power on both side won't be that cool at least IMO.
Yes he won that one, if they were to fight again however.....That's the problem with Hulk, he learns, even Abomination won the first round. Quicksilver..,,,,you know i don't have any love for that character. He's just there to make his sister look great, and get jealous when she falls in love grin
Black panther and Inhumans movies will definitely be more interesting than a Black widow one for one main reason; they're different. We've seen enough spy movies and in the end that's all it'll be, another spy movie. Both Inhumans and Black panther involve royal families with their usual politics and backstabbing. Reading either comic is like watching GOT. Maximus is a shady scheming bastard of a brother, Loki-esque with real madness and powers. You could make a movie on each member of royal family.... Medusa is Arya Stark if she became queen and had awesome hair, Lockjaw most terrifying pet ever, Crystal is like the Avatar, seriously water/fire/earth/air bender, don't get me started on Karnak!..seriously they make the AoS inhumans look silly. Those ones are half breeds, diluted specimens. The real Inhumans live in isolation for a reason. I don't know where to start with Black Panther...is it the fact it's set in Africa yet Wakanda is the most technologically advanced country in the world or the fact that they're just plain militaristic? If the rumuors are true and they get Morgan Freeman or Denzel to play T'chaka i'll be over the moon.
Another thing you have to consider is franchise potential, they can make at least10 films on the material of Inhumans/BP which is better than the one or two for Widow

Have you seen AoU ?
A certain character held his own against hulk and that person isn't in most people top 3.
Some of the overly powerful characters have been watered down in the MCU hulk, thor and scarlet witch are weaker than there comic characters
Am just hearing about this black bolt character what can he do ?
Hulkbuster is just a containment plan, nothing ever keeps the Hulk down. It's almost inevitable that they'd be depowered in the movies, but as Infinity War approaches i hope they ramp up their power levels. Otherwise Thanos will hand their asses to them. Black bolt is the king of the Inhumans, he manipulates matter through his voice but his power is so great he doesn't speak, his power is on the planet destroying scale so he keeps it locked down. Instead he channels it into himself to become stronger, faster and create forcefields and energy surges. BB is already crazy strong cos he's an Inhuman so he's already on a physical level above Cap to begin with. The mind control powers don't work on him either; Scarlet Witch, Xavier e.t.c so that's a plus. I think he's greatest asset though is his wisdom. He has been the leader of a race for centuries and there's no better strategic thinker in the MCU, well besides Black Panther. Hmmm scratch that, Black Panther is the best

"I was thinking about a story from the Bible.
Did I tell you to open your mouth?
Let him talk. It don't mean nothing.
I'm not a religious man, but I've read bits and pieces over the years...
curiosity more than faith. But this one story... There was a man... he was travelling... from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was set upon by men of ill intent. And they stripped the traveler of his clothes, they beat him, and they left him... bleeding in the dirt. Then a priest happened by... saw the traveler... but he moved to the other side of the road and continued on. And then a levite, a religious functionary, he... came to the place... saw the dying traveler... but he too moved to the other side of the road, and passed him by. But then came a man from Samaria, a Samaritan, a good man. He saw... the traveler, bleeding in the road, and he stopped to aid him. Without thinking of the circumstance, or the difficulty it might bring him. The Samaritan tended to the traveler's wounds, applying oil and wine, he... he carried him, to an inn, gave him all the money he had, for the owner to take care... of the traveler, as the Samaritan, he continued on his journey. He did this simply because the traveler was his neighbour. He loved his city, and all the people in it. I always thought I was the Samaritan in that story. It's funny, isn't it, how even the best of men can be... deceived by their true nature.

The hell does that mean?

It means that I'm not the Samaritan. That I'm not the priest... or the levite.
That I am the Ill Intent, who set upon the traveler, on a road that he should not have been on."

Please tell me you're joking
Hawkeye can't fight half as well as black widow
Remember that avenger scene.
Honestly I'll rank black widow ahead of Cap America
What exactly is peak human condition ?
This term is always fitted to support anything, same thing DC does with Batman.
I doubt a peak human can do some of the crazy stunt rodger pull?
Also quick question isn't the winter soldier just a guy with bionic arms
I don't know man, Black Widow vs Hawkeye is too close to call. That avengers scene she took him down alright, but you could say being mind controlled won't help anyone. In AoU he kicked a**! Hawkeye for me. No way Black Widow is up to Cap, i don't even see how she stand up to him
You hit the nail with that peak human condition thing, it doesn't correspond to his feats. Winter Soldier has the same strength as Cap thanks to his serum, plus he has the bionic arm which is crazy strong, he basically tore open an armoured SUV with i. I'd say he's stronger than Cap. Now that i think of it, i don't even know why we're ranking him lower
TV/MoviesRe: Marvel Cinematic Universe by moneyallowed(m): 10:45am On May 11, 2015
cao:
Drax is not a great thinker, he's a brawler, he's definitely not the guy with the plan...at least he can follow a plan. If you recall Cap's fight with the Algerian in CATWS, he's certainly at the peak of the human condition. Banner's serum made him one angry SoB and definitely moved him to superhuman stock, his serum is certainly different from the Super Soldier serum - that was supposed to create the perfect soldier, not an angry Hulk, who might not be able to take instruction. It certainly wasn't the same serum, if they really wanted to make the serum, they should have taken the Cap's blood, since it certainly still contains the serum. No one has been able to perfectly recreate the serum.

Scarlet Witch's powers should still work on Gamora, since it worked on Hulk & Thor, unless Thanos with his knowledge of the Infinity gems countered that when he messed with Gamora's anatomy. Plus SW can manipulate matter/the laws of physics (I need to rewatch AoU at some point, since I only remember seeing this ability in the MCU with the post credit scene in Avengers), that definitely comes in handy in a fight.

Gamora like most aliens in the MCU is certainly stronger than your average human, then added benefits of her enhancements certainly takes her further. Asguardians appear to be amongst the peak of Alien physiology, since they're the unofficial protectors of the universe. If you've watched the AoS episode with the lowly Asguardian who was hiding out in Earth, then you know how powerful they are.
Yea since Scarlet's powers worked on Thor, it should also work on Gamora. You're also right, she can manipulate matter, telekinesis, a bit like Jean grey from Xmen. She should win.
I think in AoS they mentioned Cap's blood, can't remember. I don't get how they've not been able to recreate the serum when Zola had his own formula to create the Winter Soldier. Lady Sif was the Asguardian, i hope they show more of her. Can you recall any AoU character apart from Quake that might merit a ranking?

I think Falcon's flight and weapons gives him an advantage over Marvel's broke Batman.
Lol i hope Drax redeems himself in part 2. Daredevil with his weapons will ground Falcon. Once he lands, the fight is over. I think Falcon is the bottom dweller of the MCU
