Unless it does something drastic, the
All Progressives Congress, APC,
Nigeria’s main opposition party, may
implode before the 2015 general
election, which are only six months
away, PREMIUM TIMES’ extensive
analysis of the situation within the
party has shown.
The party, which is barely one year
old, has found it extremely difficult to
halt the exit of key members in rapid
succession to the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, and also to
resolve internal disputes within its
state chapters, which have festered
for months.
PREMIUM TIMES checks showed that
in the last eight months, no fewer
than seven key members of the Joint
Inter-Merger Committee, JIMC, the
central body that supervised the
fusion of some hitherto opposition
parties, have left the party, either due
to irreconcilable differences with
fellow leaders or to pursue other
political ambitions.
The APC was formed last year
following the successful merger talks
between the Action Congress of
Nigeria [ACN], Congress for
Progressives Change [CPC], All
Nigeria Peoples Party [ANPP], and a
section of the All Progressives Grand
Alliance, APGA.
The Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, registered the
party on July 1, 2013.
In the run-up to its formation, the
party had described itself as “Noah’s
Ark which Nigerians who are tired of
the endless drift of Nigeria must
enter,” in reference to the biblical
vessel God directed Noah to build to
save himself, family and all the
world’s animals from flood.
Shortly after the birth of the party, five
governors and some prominent
members of the PDP joined the fold.
Also, former Vice President Atiku
Abubakar, 11 senators, 37 members
of the House of Representatives and
members of some State Houses of
Assembly and leaders of local
government councils also crossed to
the party from the PDP.
However, the party soon descended
into crisis across the country leading
to the departure of some of its
influential leaders. Those who have
left so far are former Governors
Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano), Attahiru
Bafarawa (Sokoto), Ali Modu Sheriff
(Borno), and Achike Udenwa (Imo).
Others are a former Minister of
Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, a former
Chairman of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC],
Nuhu Ribadu, a former Foreign Affairs
Minister, Tom Ikimi, a former senator,
Annie Okonkwo and a prominent
political leader in Edo State, Osagie
Ise-Iyamu.
A former governor of Ogun State,
Olusegun Osoba is believed to be so
deeply aggrieved that he might quit
the APC as the party’s leadership
appeared unable to resolve the rift
between him and Governor Ibikunle
Amosun over the battle for the soul of
the party in Ogun state.
Similarly, a National Secretary
aspirant at the party’s last
convention, Kashim Imam, who
played a key role in convincing the
five former PDP governors last
October to join the APC, is also
believed to be considering quitting
the party.
The development, analysts say, does
not only seem to have belittled the
entry of a former Vice President Atiku,
the governors and other former top
members of the PDP into the APC, but
also raises concern about the ability
of the leadership of the opposition
party to resolve disputes.
Mr. Shekarau, a two-time governor of
Kano State, who led the ANPP to the
merger talks and participated actively
in all the meetings, was the first to
quit the APC last January. Shortly
afterwards, Mr. Shekarau, the
presidential candidate of the ANPP in
the 2011 presidential election, took
up appointment with the PDP-led
federal administration as Minister of
Education.
Mr. Shekarau’s major grouse was the
alleged shoddy process that led to
the admission of his successor,
Governor Kwankwaso to the APC last
year. He felt deeply disrespected that
an APC delegation, consisting top
leaders of the fold, visited the
Government House, Kano, to woo the
governor into the party without
consulting him or at least give him a
heads up.
On his part, former Governor
Bafarawa, who was a member of the
Constitution sub-committee of the
JIMC, allegedly felt uncomfortable
with the admission of his political
rival, Governor Aliyu Wamakko of
Sokoto State to the APC. He defected
to the PDP in January. He also
complained that he was left out of the
arrangements that culminated in the
admission of Mr. Wamakko to the
party.
Mr. Sheriff also left the party last
month for the PDP. Although he was
not a member of any of the sub-
committees of JIMC, the former
senator featured in virtually all the
meetings of the leaders of the ANPP
where negotiations were made.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that Mr.
Sheriff was disturbed by the manner
he was perceived by some of the APC
leaders who had suspicious of his
closeness to the PDP as well as his
alleged role in the birth of the Boko
Haram sect when he was governor.
It was also learnt that the former
governor was also concerned that the
leaders took sides with Governor
Kashim Shettima in the face-off
between him and the governor.
A few months ago, Mr. Sheriff almost
came to blows with a leader of the
party and former Lagos State
Governor, Bola Tinubu.
Mr. Udenwa, who is also a former
Minister of Commerce, served in the
Manifesto Committee (which also
considered the APC Motto, Slogan
and Message) of the JIMC. But he
suddenly dumped the party earlier in
the year although he gave no reason
for his exit. He has since returned to
the PDP on whose platform he was
governor between 1999 and 2003.
Mr. Okonkwo left the party following
his inability to secure the
governorship ticket of the party in
Anambra State for the November
2013 election and his subsequent
disagreement with Chris Ngige, who
picked the ticket.
Mr. Ize-Iyamu, who functioned as the
ACN Chairman in Edo State was a
member of INEC-Legal and
Constitution Compliance Committee
during the merger. He however fell
out with Governor Adams Oshiomhole
who he accused of exhibiting “anti-
democratic posture.”
On his part, Mr. Ribadu, whose exit
from the APC on August 16 appeared
the most shocking of all. After he
joined the PDP, he obtained the PDP
nomination form to contest the
vacant seat of the governor of
Adamawa State. He has since
withdrawn from the race.
Although, the ACN presidential
candidate in 2011 did not serve in any
of the merger subcommittees, he
attended some of the meetings of the
leaders and also accompanied them
to woo prominent politicians into the
APC.
Mr. Ikimi, who dumped the APC late
August, did not only lead the ACN to
the merger talks, he hosted the
meetings of the merger committee in
his Abuja home.
His main grouse for leaving the party
was because he was blocked by
some leaders of the party, notably Mr.
Tinubu and the governors from
contesting the position of the national
chairman during the June convention
of the party.
He had issued a statement shortly
after the convention accusing the
governors of the party and Mr. Tinubu
of manipulating the process to pick
Mr. Oyegun as national chairman.
In an advertorial on Tuesday, the
former minister, who was the
founding national chairman of the
defunct National Republican
Convention, NRC, again blamed the
defections of some chieftains of the
party on Mr. Tinubu.
“It is not a coincidence to me that the
prominent members of APC targeted
by Bola Tinubu such as Alhaji
Bafarawa, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff and
myself are former NRC members or
those perceived as Conservatives,”
Mr. Ikimi alleged. Mr. Ikimi is already
on his way to his former party, the
PDP.
Mr. Osoba, a two-time governor of
Ogun State who served in the
Constitution sub-committee of the
JIMC. The former Ogun governor,
those close to him say, has
commenced discussions with his
loyalists on the possibility of floating
another party or joining an existing
one.
Internal Wrangling in States
Many state chapters of the APC are
also bedevilled by internal wrangling,
which pundits believe might lead to
implosion in the party if not carefully
handled.
We present a snapshot of the crises
in some of the states below.
Katsina: In this northwestern state
from where a leader of the APC,
Muhammadu Buhari, hails from, the
opposition party is swimming in
trouble waters. The main characters
in the leadership crisis are a former
Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Aminu Masari; a
former Senate Chief Whip, Kanti Bello;
Abu Ibrahim, also a former senator;
Abdullahi Aminchi; a former member
of the House of Representatives,
Usman Bugaje; Abdulazeez Yar’
Adua, a retired colonel and younger
brother of the late President Umaru
Yar’Adua; Ismaila Isa and Sada Ilu.
All the combatants are nursing
governorship ambition. The source of
the crisis was the outcome of the
membership registration and ward
congresses organized by the party,
which produced Mustapha Inuwa, a
crony of Mr. Masari as state
chairman.
Adamawa: The impeachment of
former Governor Murtala Nyako may
have reduced the power tussle in the
APC. Mr. Nyako was among the five
PDP governors that defected to the
APC last October. His entry generated
heat as the original members of the
party, including Buba Marwa and
Marcus Ginduri, both CPC and ACN
governorship candidates in the 2001
election, kicked against it. Their main
grouse was that the APC structure
was handed over to the former
governor who was believed to have
come alone into the party from the
PDP.
Kwara: It was the first state that
showed signs of crisis when the five
PDP governors, including Abdulfatah
Ahmed left PDP for APC. The ACN
governorship candidate in the 2011
election, Dele Belgore faulted the
national leadership for accepting to
admit the governor and the handing
over of the party structure to the PDP.
The coming of Bukola Saraki, seen as
the godfather of Kwara politics,
worsened the situation. Before long,
Mr. Belgore dumped the party for the
PDP.
Plateau: In Plateau, the APC crisis
has been enmeshed in crisis over the
outcome of its state congress,
especially the chairmanship position,
won by Latep Dabang, a former aide
to former Governor, Joshua Dariye. It
was however aggravated by the
procedure adopted for picking
members of the Board of Trustees,
BoT. The crisis generated to some
aggrieved members of the opposition
party locking out some of their
leaders during a meeting. A former
senator, John Shagaya and Amos
Gombi, contested for the position.
Abia: The crisis is also traceable to
the congress. A faction of the APC in
the state, which styled itself ‘Integrity
Group’ warned after a meeting in Aba
that the party would be doomed in the
state if the party did not keep its
promise to its members in the state.
Bayelsa: In Bayelsa, the APC
chairman, Tiwei Orunimighe, was at
the receiving end when aggrieved
members under the aegis of Third
Force descended on him, accusing
him of high-handedness, and
disrespectful cum autocratic
conducts. They also accused the
chairman of squandering N7.2
million given for the inauguration of
State Executive Council (SEC) without
the approval of the executive
committee members. The group also
lampooned a leader of the APC and
former governor of the state, Timipre
Sylva of leading the party from
leading it from outside the state
using his cronies. The matter has not
been resolved.
Ekiti: The party was thrown into crisis
when the leader of its caucus in the
House of Representatives, Opeyemi
Bamidele declared his interest in the
June governorship election in the
state. However, the governor, Kayode
Fayemi saw the move as being one
against his plan to return for a second
term in office. Mr. Bamidele was
believed to have shown interest in the
governorship seat based on a
purported agreement that the
governor would spend one term in
office. The crisis snowballed into a
situation where the lawmaker was
booted out as caucus leader. While
the crisis raged, the party held all-
inclusive meeting in Ado-Ekiti, the
state capital. In attendance were the
then interim National Chairman, Bisi
Akande, Ekiti APC Chairman, Olajide
Awe, former Lagos State Governor,
Bola Tinubu, APC South West zonal
Chairman, Niyi Adebayo, Tony
Adeniyi, Dele Alake, Senators Femi
Ojudu and Olu Adetunmbi.
The meeting could not however
resolve the crisis, but instead
endorsed Mr. Fayemi for a second
term. The decision infuriated Mr.
Bamidele who angrily defected to the
Labour Party, where he was handed
over the party’s ticket. Both Messrs.
Fayemi and Bamidele lost the
election to the PDP candidate, Ayo
Fayose.
Oyo: The crisis in the Oyo State
chapter of the party reached its
apogee when the senator representing
the Central Senatorial District, Ayo
Adeseun about a month ago dumped
the party for the PDP and declared his
intention to take Governor Abiola
Ajimobi’s job come 2015. The
senator, who was originally a
member of the PDP, said he left
because there is more internal
democracy in the PDP than the APC.
Only on Tuesday, the second APC
senator, Olufemi Lanlehi dumped the
party for the Accord Party, a
development that could jeopardise
the chances of Mr. Ajimobi in next
year’s election.
Edo: Sometime in April, long before
John Oyegun, a former governor of
Edo State became the APC national
chairman, some of the party leaders
in the state allegedly held a secret
meeting with President Goodluck
Jonathan and the Chairman, Board of
Trustees, BoT, of the PDP, Chief Tony
Anenih in Abuja.
They afterwards gave the Edo State
Governor, Adams Oshiomhole a
seven-day ultimatum to cancel what
they referred to as “fraudulent
membership” registration exercise
and ward and local government
congress, or face the consequence.
When the governor did not yield to the
pressure, the aggrieved members
made good their threat by defecting
to the PDP.
Predictions of implosion
Before and after its registration, some
politicians had predicted that the APC
would collapse because it was the
coming together of strange
bedfellows.
The Presidency, which spoke through
the Senior Special Assistant to the
President on Public Affairs, Doyin
Okupe, had said the APC was
destined to implode.
He said, “The APC boat is destined for
the Red Sea and in fact, I remember
that when we went to Israel, we
prayed to God to remove all the
people troubling Nigeria. So, by what
is happening now, I believe that God
is working quietly to gather these
people. By the time Jonathan defeats
those giants, God will take all the
glory and people will know that the
APC is heading for failure.”
The chairman of the PDP, Lagos
State, Tunji Shelle said, “From what I
can see in the merger and registration
of APC, all of them are strange
bedfellows. They will start fighting
one another over positions,
opportunities and party structures. At
the end of the day, sharing of offices
will polarize them and ideological
differences will divide them. And if
the centre cannot hold, everybody will
go back to his own tent. That is what
I see happening to APC between now
and 2014, not even 2015.”
The immediate past National
Chairman of the PDP, Bamanga
Tukur, had dismissed the APC as an
unserious party. “There is a desperate
political coalition in the country now
known as the APC; whose stock in
trade is insults, attacks and lack of
decorum because the party and her
members have nothing to offer the
people of Nigeria except only a
desperate plan to take over power at
all costs.”
Hope in the horizon
Mr. Oyegun assured the party would
resolve all the misunderstandings
and crises currently bedevilling the
party, especially those that arose
from the conduct of the congresses.
“A committee is working on that,” he
told PREMIUM TIMES in a telephone
interview.
A member of the defunct merger
committee, Osita Okechukwu said the
APC was highly concerned about the
defections and the crisis.
He, however, said the consolation
was that those who defected did not
leave with their supporters.
“Between the PDP and APC, their
memberships do not make up to 10
per cent of the Nigerian electorate.
We are concerned more about the
electorate,” Mr. Okechukwu told
PREMIUM TIMES.
“Is the Nigerian electorate aware that
APC is a change agent? It is not
about those who defected or who did
not defect. These are ingredients of
any election in liberal democracy.
PDP had boasted that they are master
poachers and so what we pray for is
that INEC remains transparent.”
The APC chieftain dismissed
allegations made against Mr. Tinubu
by Mr. Ikimi.
According to him, two days before the
JIMC concluded its meeting, a former
governor of Zamfara State, Sani
Yarima moved a motion that Messrs.
Ikimi and Shekarau be adopted as
interim national chairman and
national secretary of the APC,
respectively.
Mr. Yarima, he said, also said a
former deputy governor of Bauchi
State be made the deputy national
chairman.
Mr. Okechukwu said it was he
(Okechukwu) who moved a counter
motion saying there was no such
provision in the merger documents
that says its committee members be
nominated into those positions.
On the crisis in the states, he said
they were not unexpected because
three or four groups were coming
together and so there would be
agitations.
The Chairman, Partnership for
Electoral Reforms, Ezenwa Nwagwu,
said he was not surprised by the
defection of politicians from APC.
“The movements have been meteoric.
But If you proceed from the
assumption that there is a difference
between the PDP and APC, then you
will be surprise at the what they are
doing,” he said.
Mr. Nwagwu, a member of the just-
concluded National Conference said
the nation’s political institutions
would not develop if the parties are
simply vote-catching machines.
He expressed concern that Nigerian
voters are more concerned with
individuals than parties.

ABUJA — THE Presidency, yesterday,
tongue‑lashed Governor Rabiu Musa
Kwankwaso of Kano State for
accusing President Goodluck
Jonathan’s administration of running
a government based on ethnic
sentiment and religious bigotry.
The Kano governor, in an interview
with newsmen, weekend, in his office,
argued that the real cause of
insecurity in the country was bad
leadership, adding that the inability of
President Jonathan to tackle the
issue of insurgency has exposed
Jonathan’s incompetence to preside
over the affairs of Nigeria.
In his reaction, yesterday, the Senior
Special Assistant to President
Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs,
Dr. Doyin Okupe, said Governor
Kwankwaso must be must in lacking
mentally while commenting on
national issues.
According to him: “Rather than
expose himself continuously to public
ridicule, Governor Kwankwaso should
spend his remaining period as
governor in delivering on his failed
promises to the people of Kano
state.”
In a text message to Vanguard,
yesterday, Dr. Doyin Okupe, who
accused governor Kwankwaso of
having local mentality, stressed that
the President was not running a
clannish government.
Okupe said: “Kwankwaso must try to
be cerebral when commenting on
national issues. The “kwankwasiya”
mentality may work for him locally in
Kano, but definitely will not carry him
far on the national platform.
“President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
is not running a clannish government,
neither is he playing any religious
card.
“Are the ministers of Finance,
Agriculture, Inspector General of
Police; Group Managing Director of
NNPC; Chief Justice of Nigeria; Chief
of Staff and Principal Secretary;
Special Adviser, Adviser, Media in the
Presidency Ijaws or from the South
South extractions?
“Kwankwaso should spend the
remainder of his tenure to deliver on
his failed promises to Kano people
instead of exposing himself
continuously to public ridicule.

Goodluck Jonathan is currently the
only presidential candidate in
Nigeria. The others are nowhere to be
found.

I have been a student of elections for
42 years. I obtained my first degree in
History and Politics from Warwick
University, Coventry, England in 1975.
In my second year at Warwick, I
obtained a scholarship to visit the
United States to study the
circumstances behind the 1973
election of Maynard Jackson as the
first African-American Mayor of
Atlanta, and of a major Southern
metropolis in the United States since
the American Civil War.
Since then, I have been fascinated by
elections. Unfortunately, Nigeria
remained under military rule for an
inordinate length of time. The most
fascinating election I have ever
observed was the first election of
Barack Obama as the first African-
American president of the United
States in 2008. Obama secured the
nomination of the Democratic Party
against the formidable Hilary Clinton;
and he then went on to defeat the
Republican nominee, John McCain, in
the general election.
Anticlimax
Obama’s 2007/2008 election
campaign has since become a
textbook-case of outstanding
political strategizing in the United
States. His superior tactics ensured
that his victory quickly became
inevitable, even against all the odds.
Therefore, some of us were able to
call his nomination as Democratic
Party candidate and election as
president very early; to the
discomfiture of doubting Thomases
who could not imagine a black U.S.
president in their lifetime.
The forthcoming 2015 presidential
election in Nigeria is another election
that has become easy to predict, but
for different reasons. Yes, it is a much
ballyhooed election, especially since
the emergence of the All Progressives
Congress. However, the APC has
turned out to be a newspaper
political party and nothing more. Its
novelty has long died down and a
new harsh and dismal political reality
now confronts it.
As a result, the 2015 election is not
likely to live up to its hype. As a
matter of fact, all the evidence now
indicates the election will be a
cakewalk for the PDP. Goodluck
Jonathan will not only be re-elected
as president, he will be re-elected by
a landslide.
PDP failure
Ordinarily, the forthcoming election
should be a problematic one for
Goodluck Jonathan. After 15 years,
Nigerians are generally fed up with
the PDP. 15 years is more than
enough time to change drastically the
electrical power situation in the
country. But this has yet to happen to
any appreciable degree.
One year is more than sufficient to
make a big impact on the problem of
corruption in Nigeria. Again, this has
not happened in 15 years. The
security situation in the country is
now critical and is likely to get much
worse before it gets better. 219
kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls are still
missing, with only dubious
promissory notes offered by the
president for their imminent rescue.
For these and other reasons, the 2015
presidential elections should be a
difficult one for Goodluck Jonathan.
When the Iranians held American
diplomats hostage under the regime
of Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979, it led
to the defeat of incumbent President
Jimmy Carter in the United States
presidential elections of 1980.
However, in the case of Nigeria, my
contention is that the re-election of
Jonathan in 2015 is going to be easy.
Jonathan will defeat his APC
challenger convincingly. He is also
likely to obtain the requisite one third
of the votes in virtually every state of
the federation.
Shambolic opposition
The main reason for this conclusion
is that Jonathan is facing a
shambolic APC opposition that does
not seem to have a clue about what it
takes to run an effective national
presidential campaign. This explains
why, till date, Jonathan is still the
only candidate running for the
presidency. Although he has yet to
declare his candidacy officially, even
a three year-old Nigerian child knows
he will be the PDP candidate.
However, his APC challenger remains
unknown. It is incredible that barely
six months to an election where the
opposition hopes to unseat a
president who has been in office for
nearly six years, the APC bigwigs
have yet to agree on who will be his
challenger. Moreover, the INEC
timetable favours the PDP as
opposed to the APC. By decreeing
that the party primaries for the
presidential elections must wait until
October 2014, and the campaigns
must not start until November, INEC
has created a situation where
Jonathan has become virtually the
only candidate. Just by being
president, he is already campaigning
and running for re-election.
This means there is now insufficient
time to socialize Nigerians about the
APC candidate. The only opposition
candidates that need no national
introduction are Buhari, Atiku and
Tinubu. But the candidacies of these
men are dead in the water. Buhari
and Atiku have contested the
presidency in the past and failed
woefully. Should they try again, they
will fail again.
Tinubu’s candidacy is a nonstarter,
given Obasanjo’s recent eight-year
representation of the South-West in
Aso Rock. This leaves the APC with
no candidates of note to field against
Jonathan. The only realistic APC
candidate at this eleventh hour can
only be a national nonentity; and
among the non-entities, I include
men like Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano.
An APC nonentity cannot prevail
against Jonathan and the PDP
juggernaut.
Shallow party-structure
The only party that can field a
nonentity and still win the
presidential election in Nigeria is the
PDP. This is because it is the only
longstanding national party in
Nigeria and, unlike the APC; it has
been in power for 15 years. That
means the PDP has firm roots
nationwide. But the APC only has
roots in the South-West, and even
there, this is beginning to unravel; as
the recent elections in Ondo and Ekiti
indicate.
Buhari is very popular in the North,
but he is hopeless at building party-
structures. Virtually every party
Buhari built imploded. Buhari is a
one-man party. This is not very
useful in an election where Buhari
himself is not a viable APC
presidential candidate. The APC has
excited itself as a result of the
defection of some five PDP governors
to its ranks. But this is also not very
useful because these governors could
not defect with their PDP party-
structures.
The defector PDP governors have
brought a great deal of publicity to
the APC. But whatever assets they
had to offer has long fizzled out. A
testament to this is the ease with
which Murtala Nyako was impeached
as governor of Adamawa State. With
all the noise Nyako was making, it
was easy to forget that he had no
roots on the ground. It was all smoke
and mirrors that did not go beyond
newspaper headlines.
No game-plan
Where then is the APC taking the fight
to the formidable PDP? Literally
nowhere at the moment! The APC
peaked too early. As a matter of fact,
it is the party now in retreat virtually
everywhere. It lost to the PDP in Ondo
and Ekiti, part of its South-West
stronghold. Nyako of Adamawa has
been impeached. Al-Makura of
Nasarawa is on the ropes. Other APC
governors are under threat of
impeachment, but no such threat
hangs over the head of any PDP
governor.
The defection of the PDP governors to
the APC has turned out to be a
blessing in initial disguise. From the
point of view of political strategy, it
would have been better if they had
remained in the PDP as APC wolves
in PDP clothing. This might have
been useful in undermining
Jonathan’s candidacy. Indeed, they
could have challenged him for the
PDP ticket, not with any hope of
winning, but just in order to dent his
strength and create some havoc
within the PDP.
However, by defecting, the rebel PDP
governors ushered in peace to the
PDP. Simultaneously, they exported
their wahala to the APC where they
are now at loggerheads with the old
APC brigade in bitter internal
struggles for supremacy. For a party
that has yet to find its feet, this has
been disastrous. Indeed, the
defections are now going in the other
direction, from APC to PDP; as
happened recently in Zamfara. Even
the defector PDP governors are likely
to lose their seats in the near-future,
because defection is proscribed in the
Constitution and the PDP has taken
the matter to court.
So what exactly is the APC game-
plan? Nothing much! All we have at
the moment is Lai Mohammed
coming up incessantly with
bombastic broadsides against
Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP in
the newspapers. If they really believe
this is the way to unseat a six-year-
old president and dislodge a fifteen-
year-old government, then the APC
bigwigs need to enroll in NIPSS, Kuru
for courses in “Nigerian Elections
101.”
Boko Haram factor
And then there is the Boko Haram
insurgency and the albatross of the
kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls. The
strategy of the terrorists is that every
explosion is supposed to discredit the
Jonathan administration. In spite of
its hatred for the entire Nigerian
political establishment, there is no
doubt that the Boko Haram would
prefer a Northern Muslim president to
Southern Christian Goodluck
Jonathan.
For this very reason, a vote for APC is
now more likely to be construed as a
vote of surrender to the insurgency.
While Nigerians are very concerned
about the security situation in the
country, they are even less likely to
succumb to its incorrigible purpose.
The indiscriminate bombing of
innocent Nigerians for the sake of an
agenda that is alien to Nigeria cannot
but rally people nationwide behind
President Goodluck Jonathan.
A few days ago, Vanguard published
a Special Report captioned: “Six
Months to Elections, Where Are the
Presidential Aspirants?” The answer
is that Goodluck Jonathan is currently
the only presidential candidate in
Nigeria. The others are nowhere to be
found.
The APC is a useful counterpoise to
the PDP in the Nigerian political
equation. But it is only likely to pose
a strong challenge to the ruling party
in 2019, when there will be no
incumbent president to contend with,
and after it might have sorted out its
internal contradictions and developed
firm roots nationwide. But as it is
today, the APC is not even likely to
survive impending defeat in 2015.

There is no doubt, that the Northern leaders of APC are the sponsors n financiers of Boko Haram but the Southern leaders of APC definitely have nothing to do with Boko Haram. ACN committed a blunder by merging with CPC and ANPP whose Northern leaders and Governors have strong ties with Boko Haram.
The Southern leaders of APC have to live with the fact that they are being labelled as members of a terrorist party (APC) because they entered into a merger with the wrong set of Northern political leaders who desperately wanted power through violence and who were sympathetic to the plight of Boko Haram n other militia groups in the North .

The General Overseer of God of Cham­pion Royal As­sembly, Brother Joshua Ignila, the same man that ac­curately predicted the exit of Brazil in the World Cup and the victory of Germany in the FIFA World Cup has spoken again.

And this time, according to DailySun, Joshua says a private jet carry­ing some governors who are opposed to certain decisions in the country would crash.
Joshua reportedly told his congregation:

“I have warned them through my broadcast on Champions Television and I have tried to reach out to those I saw in my predic­tion. It is going to happen soon and nobody should blame anybody for it. It is either they retreat from that meeting they want to attend or they will perish.”

Joshua also said a lower rank military officer of the Nigerian Army will arrest Abuba­kar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram sect. A Nigerian soldier, he said, would shoot Shekau in the leg and capture him, while also advising security leaders to tighten security in Abuja be­tween today (Monday) and Wednesday.

“I hear the sound of bomb in the city and I call on security agen­cies to tighten security in Abuja between Monday and Wednesday.”

On the 2015 general elec­tions, Bro. Ignila said he saw the man presently on the seat at the Villa, still sitting com­fortably on the seat in 2015 and advised the ruling party to formulate policies that would pacify the opposition after a hard fight at the polls.
He said:

It is not win­ning the election that is the issue, but the problem that would emerge after the elec­tion. It will make the present insecurity in the country a child’s play.”

Joshua reminded members of the church of his earlier prediction about the mili­tary aircraft that crashed in the southern part of Bama wherein he predicted that there would be survivors three months ago. According to him, none of his prophecies had ever failed.

if indeed both party are distributing kerosine n petrol, then the APC got their strategy wrong, the masses n people at the grassroots who make up more than 90% of the voters don't necessarily use petrol as a basic amenity but they use kerosine as their main source of cooking every day, how many of these same masses n people at grassroots have cars to fill with petrol. The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP),
National Working Committee (NWC),
has declared that former vice-
president Atiku Abubakar was
keeping wrong company ahead of
2015 general elections.
Atiku had on Sunday accused the
PDP and the Presidency of creating
division and animosity in the country
by linking chieftains of All
Progressives Congress (APC), with
terrorism. The former vice-president
noted that such accusations by the
ruling party was meant to divert
attention from its failure to deliver
democracy dividends to Nigerians.
But the national leadership of the
PDP yesterday insisted that the APC
has been using religion to foster
narrow political ambition.
A statement by its national publicity
secretary, Olisa Metuh, submitted
that while it would not want to join
issues with the former vice-president,
it would not be cowed, nor relent in
its insistence “that the APC is a party
of selfish, religious and ethnic bigots
pursuing a supporter of APC ideology.
“The APC and its leaders are
embittered that the PDP machinery
has been able to effectively expose
and profile them as they truly are.
They are in pains that Nigerians now
know that the APC has no agenda,
rather a platform for selfish
individuals pursuing personal and
parochial agenda using blackmail,
propaganda and promotion of
violence as means to achieve
political control.
“The APC leaders are bitter because
they have been confronted with a
PDP that is not afraid to label them in
their true colour despite personal
threats, media attacks and character
assassination to cow and deter us.
“On the issue of APC having an
Islamic agenda, it is known to all and
sundry that the PDP never labeled it
as such. We merely, in our statement
of January 7, 2014, drew the attention
of Nigerians to the revelation by an
Islamic cleric, Ambassador Yusuf
Garba and the Religious Equity
Promotion Council (REPC), that the
APC was seeking to impose on
Nigeria, an agenda akin to that of the
Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
“In any case, we insist that it is
completely out of place for any body
to associate APC with Islam which is
a religion of peace and does not
preach violence, greed, destruction
and lust for power which are the
trademarks of the APC.
“On the other hand, the PDP has
committed Muslims who are
worshipping Allah in truth more than
the APC. Many of the founding fathers
and critical stakeholders of the PDP
are Muslims. The leader of the
administration of the PDP is a
committed and dedicated Muslim.
We have responsible and committed
Muslims as ministers, state
governors, legislators and among our
leaders at the national, state, local
government and ward levels across
the country.
“In this regard, no party can be said
to have better respect for Islam than
the PDP. Our quarrel with the APC is
its use of religion and ethnicity to
canvass for votes and membership, a
practice which is clearly inimical to
the progress and development of our
democracy.
“In spite of any personal interest, the
PDP as a platform remains better
than the APC. Indeed, the APC is not
an alternative. It has no vision and is
completely lacking in ideology. It is
unfortunate that our former members
have chosen to board the wrong
vehicle, indeed, ‘a one-chance bus’.”

The All Progressives Party (APC),
Nigeria’s main opposition party,
which hired foreign public relations
company, Burson Marsteller, is indeed
a co-founder of the Bring Back Our
Girls movement, the PR giant
confirmed over the weekend.
The revelation counters APC’s
repeated denials that it had no hand
in the formation or operations of the
Bring Back Our Girls movement, a
group pressing the federal
government to do more to free the
over 230 schoolgirls forcefully
abducted by the Boko Haram in
Chibok, Borno State, about three
months ago.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
controlled Nigerian government,
which has had spats with the Bring
Back Our Girls movement, has
severally accused the APC of
hijacking and using the movement as
a political weapon to harass and
embarrass government over the
unfortunate abductions.
A weekend news report in The Hill, a
Washington DC based newspaper,
that covers the US congress, said
Burson-Marsteller also confirmed
that it was also hired by the APC,
which is presently battling
allegations that its leaders are
sympathetic to the Boko Haram, an
Islamic terrorist group operating
mainly in northern Nigeria, to arrange
a single meeting with unidentified
persons in the Obama administration
in Washington D.C.
“The firm was originally approached
to support a one-off visit to
Washington, D.C. by the co-founder of
the ‘Bring Back Your [sic] Girls’
campaign and other APC officials.
But the visit was called off,” a
spokeswoman from Burson-
Marsteller wrote in an email.
We are in the process of de-
registering with FARA [the Foreign
Agents Registration Act], the PR firm
said according to the newspaper,
confirming THEWILL’s earlier report
that the APC paid the PR firm $100,
000 for the botched meeting.
Mr. Lai Mohammed, APC’s National
Publicity Secretary did not respond to
our calls as at the time of filing this
report.

For offering bribe to some members
of the Adamawa House of Assembly
and threatening the lives of others in
a botched attempt to save former
Governor Murtala Nyako from
impeachment, some national leaders
of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), including two governors, may
face arrest and prosecution.
According to a senior government
official in Abuja, who craved
anonymity, it was ironic for the same
APC politicians to blame President
Goodluck Jonathan for Nyako’s fate
in the hands of the state lawmakers.
The source said security agencies
have evidence of the alleged crimes of
the prominent politicians, bribing one
member of the Adamawa state
assembly and threatening the lives of
some others who refused to be
bribed.
According to the source, intelligence
report showed that the APC
governors, one from the north and the
other from the south, offered some of
the lawmakers as much as N250
million each as bribe to scuttle the
impeachment move against Nyako.
When the impeachment process
began, five of the 25 state lawmakers
were behind Nyako, while two had
travelled out of town, the government
official explained.
Although the governors were not
named, the source said they
succeeded in buying one lawmaker
over, while attempts were made to
buy more to boost the number of
lawmakers needed to stave off the
impeachment.
The failure of the party leaders to buy
over more lawmakers, allegedly
frustrated them into issuing death
threats to some of the lawmakers, the
source said, warning that would be
exposed if those involved continue to
malign President Jonathan as the
mastermind of Nyako’s
impeachment, they might be made to
face the full wrath of the law by
appropriate security agencies.
Continuing, the source said “it was
the assurance that they got from the
lawmaker that more members would
be bought over that gave birth to the
reports at that time that Nyako might
not resign.
“When it was clear to them that the
money might not do the magic, they
resorted to threats.
“They threatened some of the
lawmakers that they would be killed if
they did not collect the money and
stop the impeachment process.
“What they don’t know is that all
these are recorded. If they continue
with these their unfounded
allegations against the President, the
security agencies would be directed
to arrest them and confront them
with overwhelming evidence,” he
warned.
Nyako was impeached by the state
assembly a week and half ago, on
charges of gross misconduct and
misappropriation of state funds
which they refused to defend.
His deputy, Bala Ngilari, however
resigned hours before the lawmakers
took their final decision on him
