It has come to the notice of the Action
Congress of Nigeria, Rivers state Chapter
that Mr. Lai Mohammed, National
Publicity Secretary of the party, has been
issuing statements on the unfortunate
events unfolding in Rivers state. We the
ACN in Rivers Chapter know the true
picture of events that are unfolding in
Rivers State.
And we know that in this incidence the
main culprit is Governor Rotimi Chuibike
Amaechi, who during the last
electioneering campaign and election,
sealed up the Campaign Secretariat of
Dr. Abiye Precious Sekibo, used the
Nigerian security agencies to arrest and
intimidate our members. When all this
was going on, Mr. Lai Mohammed did not
send us word of encouragement or
support, as a party in Rivers state.
Political parties have structures; starting
from the Ward level to the National
Headquarters. It is against the party’s
constitution for the National Publicity
Secretary to usurp the functions of the
party at the State, Local and Ward levels.
We as members of the ACN in Rivers
state, have never met and passed a
resolution or informed the National
Headquarters of the ACN that we want
President Goodluck Jonathan, the
Commander-in-Chief of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, to be impeached.
Mr. Lai Mohammed should respect the
high office he holds as Publicity Secretary
of our great party.
Consequently, we the Executive and
members of the Rivers State Chapter of
the ACN totally disown the call for the
impeachment of President Goodluck
Jonathan, Commander-in-Chief of the
Armed Forces. We unanimously condemn
the hasty action and resolution passed
by one arm of the National Assembly –
the House of Representatives, to take
over the business of the Rivers State
House of Assembly.
We however commend the Nigerian
Senate for the unbiased and balanced
position it has taken to send a fact-
finding mission to Rivers State, and find
out the true position of things. We also
call on the Inspector General of Police
not to heed the one-sided call for the
deployment of Mr. Joseph Mbu the
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, as
Governor Rotimi Chuibike Amaechi had
used the police to hunt down, harassed
and intimidated members of the ACN
party of Nigeria and other opposition
parties in Rivers State.
We ask that the status-quo in Rivers
State should be maintained until the fact-
finding mission dispatched by the
Senate, arrives to ascertain the true
picture of events. We urge Rivers State
people to be law-abiding, as whatever
we do shall affect our people and not
the likes of Mr. Lai Mohammed, the
uninformed members of the House of
Representatives and their acolytes,
whose inciting statements would only
ignite more fire for us to burn.

Northern Governors visit to Gov Amaechi
in Rivers state. Amaechi and President

Yesterday, some Northern governors who
has been kicking against the status quo
or acting as the opposition with the
ruling party visited our state capital in
what they termed as a solidarity visit to
Governors Chibuike Amaechi.
As a recurring decimal, this pattern of
using Niger delta political leaders and
dumping the at the last minute is now a
serious concern to River state and Niger
Delta people.
This calls to the question, "Why is it that
the North will always look for one foolish
Niger Delta Governor to use their oil
money any time their quest for power
arises?
(1) Atiku use Diepreye Alameyeseigha
with a promise of making him, his Vice
president.
(2) The Northern leaders finish Rivers
money on the same promise of making
Odili Peter president and later dump him.
(3) James Ibori single handedly funded
Umaru Yar-Adua presidential election
with our money and today where is Ibori.
(4) Now is Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi turn.
When the gods want to finish someone
they will first make him blind and deaf.
When will Niger Delta Governors and
people learn from past Governors that
were used and dumped as a result of
their greed and insensitivity.
Amaechi's problem in Rivers state
started even before President Goodluck
Jonathan becomes the Nigerian
President. In 2002/2003, Amaechi won
PDP governors primaries and President
Obasanjo and his cohort stopped him
from taking the ticket.
Another man contested the primaries
again and and won the general election.
The Supreme Court gave Amaechi victory
for an election he NEVER contested. This
is the genesis of his problem in Rivers
state, as he came back to victimise his
opponents.
As a result of his greed and faceless
ambition, he has been wasting state
funds, paying bloggers, Newspaper
houses, disgruntled Politicians across the
country to discredit President Goodluck
Jonathan for an offense the Nigerian
President don't even know when it
started and some people are buying it as
a fact.
As some of the protesting banners wrote
yesterday, "If Amaechi want to leave
PDP, no one is stopping him, but using
state funds to cause disturbance and go
round to cry victim is what we will not
tolerate any more".
For the visiting Governors and other
opposition groups, your signatures is
now clearer, as the people fueling the
problem in Rivers state. How many times
have any of you visited Borno, Yobe,
Adamawa or even Bauchi states to
felicite with people, who are under the
attack of Boko Haram and were kept
indoors as a result of the state of
emergency?
Whatever is your ulterior motive, we
must meet somewhere and sometime.
Remember the Niger delta proverb, that

cry, dey see". - Hope For Nigeria.

Odumakin’s Views Are Not Buhari’s - CPC.

Our attention has been drawn to a Nigerian Pilot newspaper story of Wednesday, July 17, 2013 captioned: ACN governors are corrupt – Buhari. In the story, the Newspaper’s correspondent, writing from Port-Harcourt in Rivers State, stated that Mr. Yinka Odumakin made the sweeping allegations.
[The publication hits at ACN governors spending N1 Billion for a Kilometer Road in similar Roads, PDP Governors were criticised of Paying N50 Million per Kilometer.]

Therein, the Newspaper alluded to this statement by Mr. Yinka Odumakin as representing General Muhammadu Buhari’s. We wish to state categorically that nothing can be farther from the truth! As a matter of fact, Mr. Yinka Odumakin has not functioned as the spokesman for General Muhammadu Buhari since 2011, shortly after the disposal of the CPC’s Presidential petition at the Supreme Court!

As a Party, we are not unaware of the mischief embedded in the reporting that was meant to achieve very politically capricious purposes. We do not know whose interests the reporters and the Newspaper are serving. But let it be stated that, much as the said story was embarrassing to our amiable National leader, General Muhammadu Buhari, we wish to disabuse the minds of our friends, teeming supporters and merger partners that this hogwash was a cynical display of unprofessional journalism. For the umpteenth time, we hereby state that the views expressed in the story were Mr. Yinka Odumakin’s and not representing that of General Muhammadu Buhari.

Our National leader, General Muhammadu Buhari, respected for nobility and enviable character traits, is far removed from the grotesque characterization of frivolity by the reporters of the Nigerian Pilot Newspapers. We advise the Management of the Nigerian Pilot Newspaper to be guided by enviable journalistic practice in future endeavours.

Alleged BOKO Haram Sponsor Emerges APC Chairman.

**IG of police, Abubakar declared that Sheriff, Sen Zanna and Sen Ndume are Boko Haram sponsors and Under security watch.
**Cameroon Government Arrested Ali Modu Sheriff on 28th March, 2012 in their country, for what they said his links with Boko Haram.

The founders of All Progressives Congress (APC), including Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ali Modu Sheriff in a closed-door meeting concluded arrangements to ensure that the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff emerges chairman of the BOT of the APC.

The Yet-to-be registered APC members met for two days last week for a ‘special national caucus’ at the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja to fine tune details of the merger which they hope to submit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) soon.

In october, 2012, a commander of Boko haram, Shuaibu Bama declared wanted by JTF was arrested in the Maiduguri home of Sen Sheriff, located at Rabi Street, off Dambuwa Road of the former Senator and Governors of Borno state.

General J Useni alerted the Nigerian intelligence early last year that they should arrest Ali Modu Sheriff if they want to end Boko Haram insurgency.

In late October, 2012, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Abubakar Mohammed, said in Abuja that the three people alleged to be sponsoring Boko Haram were under watch and investigation.

IG Abubakar Mohammed named them as former Gov. Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno, Sen. Ahmed Zanna, and Sen. Ali Ndume.

On the 28th March, 2012 Sen Ali Modu Sheriff was arrested by neighbouring Cameroon’s security forces, for what Cameroon Government described as his link with the terror group, Boko Haram.
According to the Cameroon daily, L’Oriel du Sahel of April 2, 2012, "Modu Sheriff, also a former senator, was arrested upon entering Cameroon from Chad on his way to visit the governor of that country’s Far North Region".

It is a big shock that All progressive Congress (APC) will choose this dangerous route of naming an alleged Boko haram sponsor and friend their party chairman.
Regrettably, this gives credence to the allegation that APC and their leaders may have link with the Blood thirsty Islamic terror Group, Boko haram.

Also at the closed-door meeting were CPC national leader and former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and his ACN counterpart, former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Sherrif and high a ranking All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) official representing a faction of the party among other ‘key and critical’ stakeholders.
Reliable sources told Daily Trust that the issue of making Sherriff the BOT chairman came up as the merging parties deliberated on the list to forward to INEC as its interim exco.
Both the ACN and the CPC were said to have shown more interest in the chairmanship and secretary positions while some suggested that since Sheriff is the chairman of the BOT of the ANPP, he should be allowed to continue in that capacity in the new arrangement.
Souces say while there were other contenders for the other position, the fact that nobody countered the nomination of Sheriff or suggested another name makes the former Borno governor set to clinch the position.
Apart from Sherrif issue, it was also learnt that the meeting also deliberated on which zone should have the presidential ticket as well as other key offices like the national chairman and secretary.
There were suggestions that the APC should zone the presidential ticket to the North, vice presidential candidate to South-South, national chairman to South West, national secretary to the South East, while there was also an arrangement for five or six national vice chairmen to balance the six geo-political zones of the country.
There was no decision yet on where the deputy national chairman and deputy national secretary will be zoned to.
It was equally learnt that leaders at the meeting are moving to meet the June target they set for themselves to formalise the APC registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Officials of the party when contacted said they were not in a position to comment on the issue yet as they were still deliberating on it.

ACN: Boko Haram ban order limits
press Freedom.
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)
has said that the recent proscription
order against Boko Haram and Ansaru,
desirable as it may be in tackling the
terrorist organisations, violates the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria by stifling the press and
tampering with the fundamental human
rights of Nigerians.
In a statement issued in Ila-Orangun on
Sunday by its National Publicity
Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the
party said the Order also makes it easy
for an increasingly intolerant
government to clamp down on the
opposition, which its sees more as an
irritant than an indispensable part of
democracy.
It therefore called on media
professional bodies to challenge the
Order in court to save journalists from
long jail terms simply
for carrying out their constitutional
duties.
In the alternative, the ACN called on the
federal government to clarify the knotty
and vague areas of the open-ended
Order, that
may end up punishing journalists and
infringing on the civil liberties of the
citizens more than it will curtail the
activities of the sects.
”Against the background of insinuations
in government circles, let us be clear
that we do not condone the activities of
these sects
that have killed and maimed innocent
Nigerians and turned a section of the
country into a battle field. Terrorism in
all its ramifications
is condemnable, and no responsible
government will allow any group, no
matter its name, grievances or ideology,
to carry out terrorist
acts unchecked.
”But we believe that whatever action
government takes – even in an
emergency – must pass the
Constitutional test, especially since the
relevant sections of the Constitution
have not been suspended,” the party
said.
It said the offensive section of the
Order is Section 5 (1), which prescribes
a term of imprisonment of not less than
20 years ”for any person who knowingly,
in any manner, directly or indirectly,
solicits or renders support for the
commission of an act of terrorism or to
a terrorist group”.
ACN said “support”, as defined by the
Order, includes ”incitement to commit a
terrorist act through the Internet, or any
electronic means OR THROUGH THE
USE OF PRINTED MATERIALS OR
THROUGH THE DISSEMINATION OF
TERRORIST INFORMATION (emphasis
ours).
”Is this subsection not in conflict with
Chapter II Section 22 of the Nigeria
constitution which says ‘The press,
radio, television and other agencies of
the mass media, shall AT ALL TIMES BE
FREE (emphasis ours) to uphold the
fundamental objectives contained in
this chapter
and uphold the responsibility and
accountability of the government to the
people?’
”By stifling the press, is the Order not
abridging a part of the fundamental
human rights guaranteed every citizen
under Chapter Four of the Nigerian
Constitution in Section 39 (1), which
states thus: ‘Every person shall be
entitled to freedom of expression
including freedom to hold opinions and
to receive and impart ideas and
information WITHOUT
INTERFERENCE?’ (emphasis ours).
”Can journalists escape being sentenced
to 20-year jail terms for publishing
statements issued by the sects? Can
they freely report on videos periodically
posted on YouTube by Boko Haram
leader Shekau? Can the media freely
report the kind of massacre that took
place in Baga in April without being held
liable for ‘supporting’ terrorism? Can
radio and television stations organize
talk shows on terrorism without the
discussants being held liable for
‘supporting’ terrorism?
”Can the opposition criticise the
government’s strategies against the
terrorist sects, through its regular
intervention, without being perceived as
offering support to the sects? Does this
Order cover the satellite broadcast
channels that can be accessed in many
homes across the country? Who
determines when this Order has been
breached? These are some of the
questions that arise under the
proscription Order,” the party said.
It said the Nigerian government must
take a cue from what obtains in other
countries, especially in the US, which
are also battling terrorism, adding that
the media in those countries have
continued to report freely on the
activities of the global terrorist
organisation Al-Qaeda, despite the
horrendous attacks it has carried out in
the US and Europe, among others.
”In a statement we issued on May 5th,
we said inter alia: ‘The Jonathan
Administration is steadily descending
into despotism with a brazen assault on
the freedom of expression and the
press, the use of national institutions
against perceived enemies and a
growing inclination to denigrate
opposition leaders.
”The Jonathan Administration is
anchored on a Transformation Agenda.
But the only transformation that we can
see is the one from a democratically-
elected President to an Emperor, a
despot…If the President is not
prevailed upon to change course,m
Nigeria may be in for another season of
anomie, reminiscent of the days of the
maximum ruler who took the country to
the brink before his sudden demise.’
”We hate to say this has turned out to
be prescient, in view of the dangerous
provisions of the Boko Haram and
Ansaru’s proscription Order. The
Order’s assault on the press freedom
and the Constitutionally-guaranteed
rights of ordinary Nigerians is
unprecedented in the country’s history.
We therefore call
on the federal government to take a
second look at this Order, with a view
to resolving any conflict it may have
with the Constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria.

Amid the incessant harassment and repeated efforts by the Presidency to politically emasculate him, Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Chibuike Amaechi, has said enough is enough; and has warned President Goodluck Jonathan and his handlers to hands-off the affairs of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), else he will quit the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the opposition merger All Progressive Congress (APC).

Amaechi sent the missive to Jonathan through the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, when the latter led a high-level delegation to Port Harcourt Tuesday; ostensibly to plead with Amaechi not to defect from the PDP. Among other BoT members on the delegation were the PDP National Vice-Chairman, Dr. Sam Jaja, Prof. Jerry Gana, Chief Tonye Graham-Douglas and Chief Ebenezer Babatope. The visit came amidst growing speculation that Amaechi along with his supporters were preparing to decamp to the APC.

Presidential sources confided to Huhuonline.com that Amaechi’s body language and his recent romance with governors and members of the APC coalition was giving Jonathan and the leadership of the PDP white nights afraid that any such a move will have a domino effect that will put Jonathan’s 2015 presidential ambitions on the balance. To which end, Jonathan is said to have dispatch Anenih; “the old wise man” to plead with Amaechi not to abandon Jonathan at his greatest hour of need by defecting to the opposition.

Anenih, accompanied by other members of the BoT, met Amaechi behind closed doors and although nothing officially filtered from the meeting, sources told Huhuonline.com that Anenih virtually went down on his knees to plead to Amaechi, saying Amaechi was a formidable asset to the PDP and to the President owing to the fact that he led Rivers State to give Jonathan the highest number of votes in the 2011 Presidential elections.

Amaechi, the source told Huhuonline.com, gave conditions for his continuous stay in PDP. Among other things, Amaechi is quoted to have told Anenih that he would remain in the PDP only if Jonathan ends all covert attempts to oust him as NGF chairman and to henceforth stop meddling with issues concerning his chairmanship of the NGF and resolved the oil well dispute between Rivers and Bayelsa States. Amaechi is also said to have told Anenih to tell the President that using a serving minister from Rivers State to create crisis in the state and the state executive of the PDP is a self-defeating strategy.

A press release issued by Amaechi’s office said Anenih described the Governor as a force to reckon with and one of the leaders of the ruling PDP. The statement said Anenih and his team were in Rivers State to consult with Amaechi over important national and party issues in the PDP.

o which end, Amaechi told his apparently uninvited guests that the PDP in Rivers State was peaceful. He recalled that the PDP supporters in the state gave two million votes to President Goodluck Jonathan during the last election and assured him that his administration would encourage the people of the state to continue to vote for the PDP during elections.

Hear Amaechi: “Chairman, like we did say to you, PDP in Rivers State is peaceful. We also have told you that we produced two million votes for the president. So we thank you for coming. All we are saying to you is tell the party to please treat us well so that we can encourage our people to continue to vote for PDP. We are members of PDP and we will remain members of PDP.”

Anenih’s visit to Port Harcourt coincided with a statement by the PDP Tuesday that its National Working Committee (NWC), headed by the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and BoT were not working at cross-purposes.

It has also emerged that during Anenih’s meeting with the Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko, last week, he told the PDP BoT chairman that he and other northern governors on the platform of the party do not recognise Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

However, as members of the BoT were trying to appease Amaechi, Huhuonline.com gathered that some northern PDP governors have made it clear that they do not recognise Akpabio as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum. Governors, who hold the position, include Wamakko, who did not hesitate to make this known to Anenih last week, as well as Governors Sule Lamido and Babangida Mu’azu Aliyu of Jigawa and Niger States respectively. Wamakko was said to have made it clear that Akpabio’s position was untenable and would foster disharmony in the party.

A group, the Forum for Equity and Justice, had on Monday asked the Anenih-led BoT to leave the Tukur-led NWC alone so that the latter could concentrate on its duties.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, in a statement, denied that there was a rift between the BoT and NWC, saying: “We are aware that this group of meddlesome interlopers and political jobbers with no fixed address has been commissioned to stir up controversies and to portray the BoT as working at cross-purposes with the NWC.”

According to Metuh, “the BoT had in no way usurped the functions of the NWC, explaining: “His reconciliatory visits complement the reconciliation and consolidation tours embarked upon by the NWC and they have been yielding desired results. The NWC is solidly behind the activities of the BoT in further uniting the party which is central and cardinal for the party ahead of 2015

According to Ms Tolulope Lawal, a media commentator, "Amaechi is just digging his political grave gradually, I appeal and beg him to join Apc.

"What a desperate man, he should forget the ambition of becoming the vice-president.

The crisis rocking the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, may have split the governors of the 19 northern states as only five of them attended Thursdays meeting of the Northern State Governors Forum in Kaduna.

The governors that attended the meeting are the chairman of the northern governors’ forum, Babangida Aliyu of Niger; Sule Lamido of Jigawa; Ibrahim Dankwanbo of Gombe; Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa; and the host governor, Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State. The others were represented by their deputies.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the governors did not discuss the controversy that returned Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as chairman of the NGF, and Jonah Jang of Plateau State as a factional chairman.

The northern governors in support of Mr. Jang are believed to have shelved the meeting in protest against what they considered a betrayal during the NGF meeting.

Hours before last month’s meeting and chairmanship election of the NGF, the northern governors had met and endorsed Mr. Jang as their candidate for chairman. The results of the election, in which Mr. Jang lost to Mr. Amaechi by 16 votes to 19, however showed that some of the northern governors did not vote for the Plateau Governor.

Since the voting was by secret ballot, no one can say for certain how the governors voted although three of the northern governors, who are not members of the Peoples Democratic Party, reportedly voted for Mr. Amaechi.

Niger governor admits problems

The Chairman of the northern governors’ forum, Babangida Aliyu, admitted that there were problems among the governors.

“I know there was election (NGF) that someone won. We are having problems and we will solve it,” Mr. Aliyu said while responding to questions from newsmen.

The traditional press briefing prior to the meeting proper was unusually shelved.

Mr. Aliyu simply asked journalists to leave the venue of the meeting so that the northern governors could meet.

The meeting started around 11:00 a.m. and ended around 1:30 p.m.

A communiqué signed by the chairman at the end of the meeting expressed concern over the economic problems facing the nation and the north in particular and resolved to have an economic plan that would emanate from the states, zones and the region to form a basis for economic development.

The Forum also asked northern states to study the recommendations in the Draft White Paper of the Committee on Reconciliation, Healing and Security and promptly implement them as appropriate in the interest of peaceful co-existence and development of the country.

On the Petroleum Industry Bill, the meeting noted that member states had already articulated and forwarded their various positions on the bill to the National Assembly. The forum therefore resolved to continue to engage members of the National Assembly for the speedy passage of the bill in the overall interest of all.
