You just spoke my mind..
If you post any topic and the write up happens to be more than 3 lines, just know that the average 9ja youth will just scroll and pass without bordering to read especially when the topic has nothing to do with sex, Davido or snake.

If you wish to hide an important information from the average Nigerian youth, just put it in writing and the information will probably remain as secret as you want it.

Some will even be asking for summary as if they have an online secretary working for them.
I feel embarrassed too.
So when you have these kind of people em mass in your nation, how do you expect the nation to prosper? the ignorant majority ends up holding you back. The only choice left is to leave the country for them.

Nigerians are the problem with Nigeria

This thread is making me rethink so many plans I had for my money

The Egbado People especially of Ilaro were Originally Oyos whom the Alaafin had put in Charge of protecting the route to the Sea Coast at Badagry and Ajase but there was a point at which the Dahomey under king Ghezo were really raiding the Area mind you both Badagry and Porto Novo were initially under the king of Dahomey but Alaafin’s Army under Aare Oona Kankanfo Oyabi won and seized them in War with the Dahomey

The Egbado we’re, doing their best to keep the Egbado Corridor safe but when the Oyos were busy fighting Power drunk Afonia and the Fulani at Ilorin ( that was when Oyo lost Cotonou and all of Dahomey Kingdom who were already searching for any slight opportunity to make a break for independence from Oyo ) and during the Kiriji Wars with the Ekiti Parapo both the Egbas and Dahomey were raiding the Egbado Corridor that led all the way to Oyo from the Coast and the Oyos were frequently unable to provide enough troop reinforcements when the Egbado were requesting for backup because the troops were busy fighting elsewhere

So although Oyo held Badagry and all the Area to Porto Novo until the British Colonisation it was subjected to frequent attacks from Dahomey and the Egbas

There was a time under Basorun Gaa when the entire Coastline from Badagry to today’s Accra in Ghana was under the Alaafin of Oyo it was the Afonja saga at Ilorin that turned the Oyo Empire upside down

While the Oyos were busy battling Afonja and the Fulani at Ilorin the Dahomey and Ewe Kingdoms seized the opportunity to make a break for independence from Oyo

What sort of military attire did oyo infantry employ ? Been trying to research this but info is scant on oyo in general

I know there was a formidable cavalry, but did yoruba troops employ any sort of armors, helmets etc or it was just swords? And did we have special military garb or soldiers just wore whatever ?

By the way You are a true historian thanks for educating nairaland
Health / Re: My Boy Paid 50k and Collected Free STD... by Moorish: 4:34am On Nov 21, 2021
angelfallz:
I am no longer surprised about it.

Too many men in this generation find it difficult approaching women. And the most annoying part is that they don't want to learn how to approach women.
Approaching women is easy. Getting women to have sex with you is easy. But rather than put in the work, many prefer the short cut of prostitutes.
There are some of them on this forum who are even ready to fight you, claiming that there are clean prostitutes that insist on using condoms. I laugh at such men. They don't know that there are some STDs that condoms don't protect them from

Here are the STIs that can still be spread even when your partner has things under wraps, and why it's so important to get tested regularly if you're sexually active.

1. Herpes
"If a person has a herpes lesion that is on an area of the groin or pelvis that is not covered by the condom, then transmission from that lesion can occur," Sasan explains. Doctors recommend abstaining when you have an active outbreak (that's when you're most infectious) to decrease the risk of spreading the virus to your partner, though it can still be transmitted when there's no visible outbreak, too.

2. HPV
HPV is the most common STI—if you're sexually active, chances are you'll be exposed to it at some point in your life. Some strains can cause genital warts but others don't, which is why many people never know they have it. And even without warts present, HPV can be passed with skin-to-skin contact. Some strains can lead to cervical cancer, and while there's evidence that condom use reduces cervical cancer risk, there isn't direct evidence of its ability to prevent specific HPV strains, both "dangerous" and not.

3. Molluscum
Molluscum is a virus that manifests as tiny little bumps on the skin. It's not a very familiar STI, because it doesn't cause any long-term health problems and is typically asymptomatic other than the appearance of bumps. "It’s a skin condition commonly transmitted between kids, but in adults you usually see it sexually transmitted," Rowen says. Women will typically notice it on the vulva. The small, round bumps can appear anywhere from two to three months after the time of infection, and may itch or feel tender to the touch.

4. Pubic lice (crabs)
"Pubic lice is not super common anymore, since people groom more now," Rowen explains. But if you're rocking a full bush, you do have a chance of catching pubic lice from an infected partner. Since lice lay eggs and live in the hair, a condom will do diddly squat to keep you safe.

5. Syphilis
Syphilis presents as a firm, round, and usually painless sore, called a chancre. "Just like herpes, [a condom] is not going to protect you, depending on where the sore is located," Rowen says. Wearing a condom decreases the likelihood it will spread, and can be effective if the chancre is covered by the condom, but if it is located on a part of the penis that's exposed, it can be transmitted.

Yes that was part of what forced the Oyo’s to become very good Military Strategists

At that time they tried to use Geographic locations and Topography to their advantage

by hiding in between thick forest and Rocks and Springing upon the Ijebu and Egbas especially in places

where the typography forced the Ijebu and Egba into a Single line formation to be able to pass through

Or in Locations where the Egbas and Ijebu would be forced to fight with their backs to a River leaving

them with nowhere to Escape to after they ran out of Amunition

the Oyos also used their Bows and Arrows while hiding out of Sight to

make Sure their opponents used up all their Amunition aiming at the Wrong Targets before finally

Springing on them with Swords
That’s a highly impressive feat o

With ijebu/egba’s advantage (access to the guns from the Atlantic coast) one would have anticipated their total victory, oyo tried to hold them off with just swords and bows n arrows!

I also heard The significance of the egbado corridor in this war. What did that mean? Did the egbado’s also sabotage our desire to access the trade on the Atlantic ?

Also why didn’t we try ajase (Porto novo) ?

Olu317 you do know that the Olubadan is a Subject King of the Alaafin of Oyo don't you ?

Excuse me Ethnic Oyos know Ibadan are mostly Oyos almost all Oyo State and much of Osun State are Ethnic Oyos

Ibadan was a Massive Oyo Refugee Camp that became a Super Star through Gods Grace and Mercy after the Fulani Jihads invasion of Old Oyo sent

Oyo People fleeing into all directions of the Wind

There are many Yoruba migrants into Ibadan but after chasing out the Egbas and Ife the Oyos ran the show and controlled the Town , Ibadan was originally founded by a very fatherly Ife Man called Lagelu who also had an Oyo Mother, then the Egbas Settled next before the Oyo refugees got there after being welcomed by Lagelu and later chased everyone else away after a misunderstanding ( Yoruba need a lot of Prayers )

After being Chased from Ibadan the Egbas founded Abeokuta and hit the big time on the Coast of Lagos that was when the Ibadan now thought let us kuku takeover all the way to the Sea Coast but the Egbas were like you already chased us out of Ibafan and you are Certainly not going to takeover Abeokuta and Egbaland you Oyos have pushed us to the wall and we are not taking it anymore that was when Egba People like Lisabi came to prominence

Note that when the Oyos took over Ibadan they commandeered and took over the Wives of the Egbas as well so the Egbas had a very big beef against the Oyos of Ibadan that lasted well into the last Century

Go and Check the Kiriji Treaty of 1878 Alaafin signed as overlord of the Ibadans, Ijaye and all Ethnic Oyos

The Masquerade you are talking about came to Ibadan when an Exiled high ranking Ibadan Warlord who in Exile became the defacto Military ruler of the Akoko Area returned back home to Ibadan in his old age with the Masquerade in his entourage it was because of the Military Prowess of Chief Ayorinde that the Fulani failed to penetrate the Akoko Area

Benin Supplied Ibadan Arms during the Ekiti Parapo War because the Egbas of Abeokuta and the Ijebu were also at War with Ibadan

at exactly the same time

Or do you expect the Egbas of Abeokuta and Ijebu to supply Firearms to the Ibadan who are busy fighting them to takeover their
Land and Seacoast

The Ibadan got some supplies from Badagry and Porto Novo Which were under the Alaafin of Oyo but the Egbas kept on attacking the Ibadans route to Badagry and cutting off their supply lines so Ibadan turned to Benin for Supplies also Kiriji the battlefield was almost the same distance to Benin as it was to Badagry but with the Benin route being much safer

There was big money involved in trading with the Ibadan Army and Benin was willing to fill the gap while Ibadan was busy fighting the Egba and Ijebu who were also Ibadans usual Weapon suppliers apart from the Badagry area
Thanks for this breakdown!

I had heard that we oyo’s had to fight the egbas/ijebu with swords in some
Instances due to the lack of guns

Tribalism is wack, stupid band senseless.
Look at it this way,a man from the north hates southerners, yet if bandits,of the same tribe, have the slightest opportunity they will kidnap his kids in school,or book haram can attack his home town and wipe out his family.( He can lose everything to his fellow tribesmen)
A man from the east hates westerners, yet if kidnappers,of the same tribe, have the slightest opportunity they will kidnap him,if he doesn't have money he will be killed, or his lovely children stolen and sold,(He can lose everything to his fellow tribesmen).
A man from the west hates northerners or easterners, yet if ritualist of the same tribe have the slightest opportunity, they will kill him and dismember his body and sell for little change, or his wife could enter one chance bus,and robbed, and thrown out of the bus( He can lose everything to his fellow tribesmen).
If your own tribesmen can harm you and make you lose all you hold there in the world, why then do you hate other tribes who might never harm you ever in anyway?
It's a pity that online hate speech and tribalism is rampant mostly among the youths of southern extraction, who are mostly Christians. For what? Because of politicians smh undecided
I read this post when you first made it but I had to come back here to digest this wisdom again

So basically there are good and bad humans in every tribe/ethnicity so we should focus on the good people irrespective of ethnicity

The absolute peak of Oyo was 1870. Beside, estimated location Oyo had influence rather than being suzerainty over were Northern Yoruba land. While using other kingdoms such as Ketou,Popo, Sabe to control Fongbe-Dahomey,Gun, Ewe etc through to land of Atakpame and beyond.

Importantly, Oyo created military garrisons in different places and thus collected some form of taxes from some kingdoms which were due to the controlled route to doing business transactions with non Yoruba through Lokoja.

Nevertheless, sanity and rule of law were held in high esteem which were worthy of note to mention. While connsidering reason for the fall of Oyo as it seems, were basically two: Overbearing authority of Oyo Mesi(borne of ancient Ogboni) and unchecked interaction/migration of non Yorubas in to Yoruba land which made her vulnerable.

Nonetheless, none of such will ever happened again because Oyo as an empire were built with the blood of all Yoruba clans historically, so when I see some people chanting Oyo praises without full Yoruba recognition as if she came down from hill top to Yoruba land.

It was as a result of Oyo's fall ,Ibadan picked the identity of all comers are equal from late 1820s. This indeed s the reason Yoruba people know and learned from previous mistake that unity is paramount in all ramification. Afterall, Kiriji war was termed the last war "mother of all wars."
Olu you said alaafin does not have a crown.. but alaafin is a descendant of oranmiyan.

I also heard some alaafin can’t remember which, who claimed that ooni was a child of oduduwa’s affair with one of his slaves and as such is not a legitimate king

So it seems oyo and Ife have argued about who is the rightful king for some time

Scriptures Must be Fulfilled! It does not Matter whether we Believe or not.

The Owner and Creator of the Heavens and the Earth told us over 2000 yrs ago , what will be on Earth as Signals to his arrival and the End of the age.

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Ready or Not! JESUS is Coming
But Jesus also said “this generation will not pass until these things happen”

He also said “some of you standing here will not taste of death until these things happen”

I’m sure you cannot explain this

Because it means the end of days have already happened during the time of the apostles
