Not true because ,some Yorubas enclave didnt pay any tributaries to Oyo but exchange of gifts. Otun in Ekiti and some in part of Kwara didn't pay Oyo any tributary. Awujale didn't pay. Ado Ekiti didn't pay tributary, In fact ,Ado ( Ekiti) initiated OYO into IFA, Orangun Ila didn't pay, Owa Obokun didn't pay,IFE Ooye can't pay(sacred city), Small States such as Iwo, Idanre,Oka, didn't pay, infact mostly Akoko Yorubas groups didn't pay because, many settlers in Akoko,were hunters,IFA priests, Osanyi Worshippers, princes and princes of different kings from IFE and few Odua descendants that moved to that direction for one reason or the other. These set of people were tactical in warefare, physically and spiritually fits. Outside these, the terrain were so hilly except the mastery of climbing and understanding, these forest zone's hilly tactics before such people could be defeated and it never happened...Many warring groups tried but failed.

I checked Wikipedia too. It says Yorubas claim Oduduwa fell from the sky, it also says Benin gives a more realistic account of Oduduwa as an exiled Benin prince who relocated to Ife and conquered them.
Your Wikipedia also said early explorers found Benin to be a highly advanced and highly developed empire ruling over many towns and kingdoms including Yorubas but it only says dead Oyo was claimed to be a Yoruba empire in the west. Even Wikipedia does not have any factual accounts of Oyo because nobody witnessed it.

Many Yoruba princes were slaves at Oba of Benin palace. A requirement by the Benin king to have conquered Yoruba kingdoms princes serve as slaves before they will be allowed to go back home to be king..

In terms of greatness, the only place in the whole of south sahara African that was fit enough to be described as a City when the European arrived in the 15th century was Benin. Benin did not name herself a City but the Europeans did. Don't forget they visited the whole of Africa, they also name a section of the ocean running through the west coast of Africa ( the bight of Benin) after Benin for her greatness, this is where Republic of Benin took her name. Today as a reminder of Benin Empire's greatness, a huge body of international water (bight of Benin) was named after her by European cartographers, a whole country where some of the inhabitants speak Yoruba (Republic of Benin) bears her name, Republic of Benin had the options of naming herself the Republic of Oduduwa or Republic of Oyo but choose Republic of Benin instead. What about Benin arts in most major museums in the world, from Europe to America to Canada to Australia. Benin Empire was the first to exchange ambassador with a European country in the 16th century even before any of the present countries that made up the Africa continent was put together as nations by the Europeans. The lists goes on and on but I will pulse here for now and over to you to point to the independently verifiable evidence that made Oyo even a kingdom let alone great and mind you all I have written was confirmed independently by the Europeans and not some Benin Historians and these evidence can still be verified today.

You need to understand that the Igbos were not fighting the yorubas;the hausas; or the ijaws, as individual tribes...they fought with Nigeria! The reason why I called it cowardice was because,there was good reasons to support Biafra exit as at that time. Remember that the Igbos suffered for the actions of the yorubas? In 1946 or so,they were murdered in their numbers in the north without any provocations from them; in 1953 or so,they were murdered in their numbers again. And these were caused by the yorubas basically. It was during the pre- independent meeting in Lagos State that the rancour happened between the yorubas and hausas,which led to the murder of majority Igbos in the North. And that was the reason Igbos celebrated in the north when the coup of 1966 happened. So,at that point when the Igbos sought to secede,there was good reasons for the yorubas to support their exit. There was good reasons for the ijaws to support it,too; since they were the first to agitate to secede.
Sincerely speaking,I really want the east and west to cooperate,likewise the north. The problem we have is not the average northerner,easterner or westerner,but our elites. If we tackle the elites,then our problems are solved. But in the meantime,I really want the west to cooperate with the east. God has blessed the west with the strategic position after the civil war to either mar or make Nigeria. They are the only ones that can tackle the excesses of the north,since they are the co-victors with the north,so now they should act like victors and not be subservient to the north.
