Politics / Re: Obidients, Is This Really True? by Mordecai(m): 12:27pm On Jun 14, 2023
Lol.

First of all, you're free to throw insults. It just won't get to me. Thanks for the forewarning, anyway.

Secondly, Tinubu has always claimed he is an Awoist, and he is the one I referred to as an apostle of Awolowo. Not you. Who dash you sef?

To the main issue.

You say that because the education was free, you got less than what you should, as you had to share?
That's a load of crap if there ever was one.

On the flip side, i.e. assuming but not conceding that it happens, wouldn't it be the others that got less education because they had to share with you?

And now that you know about that, instead of demanding increased funding so that the students get more, you want to shut down the flow? Apart from security, education and healthcare, what the heck does government actually owe every citizen?

You believe those with money should pay to get education and you still went ahead to set up a GoFundMe for your old school? Why not have the current students pay for the whiteboard if they want it? That need you identified is a gap you know within yourself that government should fill. However, you know they won't. Yet you do not leave it for the students. You try to get the "community" to do that. Because you know that the responsibility is not the students' nor their parents'. You know.

Private schools will always exist for those that want far above what the public system offers. So for people like you, by all means. Pay and get full value without "sharing".

Funny enough, there are some things we really should not argue. If the government goes ahead to make education a rich people's affair, fine. We'll still come round full circle. Afterall, noone needs to tell the NE governors to educate their people cheesy.

So long.

Edit: It appears you were referring to the use of NYSC members, while I thought you were writing of the student loan bill.

budaatum:

Don't make me insult you. Who made who apostle? And you have the gall to tell me to "look beyond partisan politics" when look at partisan politics is exactly what you've done here if you ask me.

That your so called "free education" was not so free for those who paid for it. Before Jakande, an Apostle of Awolowo spent money decades ago for free education, "rats talk jo!" Then free education, and a lot of kids in my neighbourhood could go to school to learn to read instead of talking crap. But for me the cost was hugh as I got less education than I otherwise might have gotten, as I now had to share so others could have some. I lost my maths teacher who went off to head some other school, and I lost my English teacher and a few others too, as my school was split into 4 to accommodate 2 more secondary schools and a primary school, and if it were food, it was like I now had to share my full plate of food with 4 other people, but at least I now wouldn't be surrounded by idiots, so I did not mind the cost to myself, after all, groundwork had to be laid. But times are different now. The groundwork has been laid, and people now understand the value of education, so why should it continue to be free now that we have more people needing it, and need money to invest in it to improve its standard? Do you not think everyone who can afford it should not be able to buy themself a full plate of food that they do not have to share with others, as in, get a high quality education not ravaged by strikes and handouts and lecturers who are low paid and prey on their students instead of doing an excellent job teaching them?

Ignorance is costly indeed, but Government can not fund the high quality education and healthcare that we need today to make us valuable assets to ourselves and our country, and anything they provide for free or even cheap would not be the highest quality and standard that we deserve because there's far too many of us to share it amongst, and there's no way Nigerians would be willing to pay the tax that would be required to pay for it. And when we pay for it we'd have more money to invest in it and might even start selling it at higher rates to Europeans who will come to buy it from us like they used to, which would benefit us even more.

On that very unfree note, my old students association is raising money to install electronic whiteboards in all the classes because we are fully aware that government can not fund buying them for us and return our school to the highest standard it was before we had to share. So please, here's the gofundme https://gofund.me/8cdbd9d6. Even just ₦10, if anyone can. buda will even be ever so grateful if so referenced or even if you just comment, if you can, moreso if you buy the £75 ticket and attend the fundraising even in October. Thanks very much in advance.
Politics / Re: Obidients, Is This Really True? by Mordecai(m): 7:55pm On Jun 13, 2023
It is shocking how an apostle of Awolowo is laying groundworks for a system in which government would abdicate their role in funding education, and the followers of Awolowo are rejoicing!!!

Student loans would be a great idea for postgraduate studies, please. But the government cannot afford to leave our education, the future of the country to market forces.

Please and please, if we need anything at this point in our history, it is for our government to fund education and healthcare.

If not for free education by Awo, the SW would be grappling with the same security woes the North is facing now. It was the money spent decades ago that they're benefiting from today.

And we have a responsibility to pay it forward. Education is expensive but ignorance is costlier, yes. But that's not a good reason to leave it the students to borrow and find their way...

Please, on this issue, we need to look beyond partisan politics.

budaatum:

I should not have to be paid peanuts because of rurals! I got loan to pay back for the skills I bought that they are paying me peanuts for!

It's because of this cheap NYSC labour that Nigeria wages are derisorily low. We are worth lots more than what they currently pay which is why Nigeria is rural to UK that is stealing our doctors and nurses and teachers by paying them more.

Rural schools will just have to hire skilled teachers and doctors and nurses and so forth at the appropriate rate instead of using unskilled and underpaid labour that they recycle every year! Just as you would not tell the brewer or baker or butcher to charge less in rurals, so too must you not expect me to sell my skills for less because of rurals.

I am very aware that my task of convincing you or anyone else that you are worth more and deserve a living wage is going to be an uphill struggle. This my aluta continuatas.

You moved ahead to worship someone indicted for moving funds for drug runners during the same period. Someone that forfeited as much as $460000 to the US government.

You then turn around and point fingers at a person that decongested ports under Abacha, did his job satisfactorily, without any remuneration, without any political benefits attached, and returned to his business, an honest businessman.

donphilopus:

Whose mandate was stolen? Is it the Peter Obi who was getting less than 5k votes when Tinubu and Atiku were getting hundreds of thousands of votes in the core north? You think getting 95% of the votes cast in the southeast wins you a Presidential election in Nigeria? Lol

BTW, are you aware that the total valid votes in Kano and Sokoto States alone dwarf that of the entire southeast? Are you also aware that Peter Obi didn't get up to 35k votes in these two states while Tinubu secured more than 800k votes? So when next you're crooning "mandate stealer", take it to Instagram where most people are more concerned about big front and back.

You know I used to be scared of that "real politicking". But I have learnt, from PO, that it is possible to win against all that, without even harboring ill feelings. Those politicians always play themselves out of the game like Ngige did in Anambra. Ngige that most Anambrarians would have willingly died for then...

Penguin2:

Lol!

You see the problem with Garfield is that he sees nothing wrong in wrongdoing or obvious distortion of facts and reality. To them, it’s “real politicking’.

He doesn’t mind bending arguments and calling white black just the justify the atrocities of the divide he’s loyal to.

The 2023 elections was viciously and dangerously rigged beyond the imagination of anybody and against the impression INEC gave before the election but all those things don’t matter to Garfield.

A picture of Form EC8A from one polling unit in Bauchi showed Labour Party scoring 140 votes but when the votes of the entire Local Government was computed by INEC, LP’s votes was below 140. But Garfield sees nothing wrong with that.

Again, they always fail to understand that every vote gained by Peter Obi is a minus for Tinubu or Atiku as the case may be.

They forget, that if tomorrow the court agrees that Peter Obi won Rivers, Benue and Taraba, what that translates to is that Obi won 15 States while Tinubu won 10 and Atiku won 11. The implication is that if rerun is happening, Obi is definitely making the rerun or run off with a psychological edge.

The KKK states he’s talking about was shared by 3 people who canceled themselves out which was an advantage to Peter Obi but Garfield will always want to bend logic on its head and leave you wondering how some people perceive things.
Politics / Re: Yusuf Datti Joins Peter Obi In Court As Trial Resumes At Tribunal (pics) by Mordecai(m): 7:48pm On May 30, 2023
Form EC8A.

The court can order a rerun in specific places if it can establish that there was significant malpractice but the direction is not clear.

If that happens 😊...

Mr garfield1,

You might need to spend some more time among the various peoples of Nigeria.

In case you do not know, all the talk about IPOB/ESN does not trigger a Northern Christian. Just the Muslims.

The Christians there have had a terrible time being dominated by the Muslims that they feel a kinship to the only people in this country who feel their pain, and has stood by them, without hesitation every single time.

You really are yet to understand the undercurrents below the tribal affiliations in this country. But your principal does, reason he is actually more threatened by Obi than by Atiku. Forget what he says. Look at his actions instead.

Clearly, they are preparing for a rerun. You might not see that yet. But the signs are all over - the attempts to demarket PO etc. But having known Nigerians from all around the country up close like I do, they should be scared. Really scared.

Also, he needs to gain just 1.5m votes. Deduct it from BAT and Atiku and post it back to PO accordingly. Remember the BVAS...

garfield1:

You implied that the kkk was inflated and I just showed you that all state votes are inflated and that kkk actually have the largest voters.obi got 350,000 out of 4.3 mil kkk votes while tinubu got about 1.5 mil enough to take out obi victory in SS alone.

You and obi forgot something.a lot of the northern christians are traditional pdp voters and even dislike the call for secession from se therefore many will vote pdp and a few will vote apc.infact, christians up north voted tinubu more than Muslims voted obi...obi won southern kaduna- but atiku got a large chunk of the votes.whete is the rigging? If there was,it was from atiku not tinubu. Obi getting a few more thousand votes will in adamawa-,taraba,kad etc won't change anything.obi must not just prove rigging but must prove that it was enough to change the overall result.prove that up to 2.8 mil of your votes were suppressed
Politics / Re: Yusuf Datti Joins Peter Obi In Court As Trial Resumes At Tribunal (pics) by Mordecai(m): 4:24pm On May 30, 2023
Now the KKK states argument is out of the way, you clearly forget something about the 4.4m votes you mentioned. They were split by 4 candidates. Granted, PO was favored less in the divvying, but that was all good and expected.

Have you actually lived up north, more especially in the North East? If you did, you would know that BAT's Mu-Mu ticket did more campaign for PO than PO did himself. Simply put, the propensity of Christian voters to queue up behind a candidate is directly proportional to the support Muslims give to one of theirs. That is what played out in Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Gombe and Kaduna. In some places, their combined numbers can even outstrip that of the Muslims. At a point, even the APC campaign team in Taraba queued behind Kefas when the Muslims adopted the NNPP Prof enmasse. So you can imagine the good work El-rufai did when he denigrated Northern Christians 😊.

All Obi had to do in the NW was let BAT and Atiku campaign based on their Muslim and Northern leanings and watch the Christians automatically gravitate towards him, while still sharing the other votes with them, no matter how little.

As for the Kaduna votes, LP garnered above 35% votes there. We wait for the PEPT to show it. Akwa Ibom for instance was won by LP. It is not on the front burner for obvious reasons 😊 but it is on the table. Benue too. Taraba too. Bauchi votes from Tafawa Balewa alone is far above the 8400 allocated. Michika, Mubi and Numan votes alone, in Adamawa are not small.

Talking about politics, you just have to accept that PO played a wonderful hand, a winning hand. BAT resorted to rigging plans when it became clear during the campaigns.

If rigging is the politics you talk of, then we are in for a long thing because the route to power determines performance whether we like it or not.

garfield1:

Obidients don't know politics.who told you that winning kkk or winning Lagos,Kano,Abuja or rivers is a must? The constitution clearly states that get the highest votes and spread not win big states.tinubu got his calculations well,he targeted the core north and sw which has the bulk of votes while obi targeted se SS and NC which has less voters.
Bvas did not just expose inflated votes in kkk but exposed inflation in all the states.the figures of every states went down but still kkk still produced the highest votes in Nigeria.kkk produced 4.3 mil votes while se and SS combined got 4.4 mil votes.
Obi did not get 25% in kad.he got 300k votes out of 1.4mil which is about 21%.95%of these votes were from southern kad dominated by Xtians.
So far, apart from rivers you guys cannot disprove any other state.until you do so,Pandora is on quicksand

I'm stating this clearly, with every fiber in me - You are not from the South South. Noone from the South South will brazenly come here to argue about Tinubu's votes being inflated. Even Keyamo has the sense not to flog that horse, and here you are boasting and throwing insults about.

I am not from the South South either. But if having a home in a state for over a decade qualifies, then I daresay I am. Same as the North, and I am not talking about FCT.

I am in a good position thus to tell you that in all the SS states, PO won landslide with PDP coming second. APC cannot boast of 25% except with the results they rewrote.

Importantly, ditch your insults. They don't move me. Just argue your points. I am not bitter. I am pissed, yes. But not bitter. And I am not the one throwing dirty words all around. You are. I am sure you even have a long way to go to get to where I am in life. So believe in what you believe in, but be polite in expressing your views.

donphilopus:

Stop mention south south when next you're writing trash. We are not bitter people here. Tinubu won Rivers and came second in Akwa Ibom, Edo and Cross River. Aside Bayelsa which has one of the lowest registered voters in the country, Tinubu got more than 50k votes in every state of the South South. So what nonsense 5-digit are you talking about?

Those days are over when facts are dismissed on the altar of "you don't know politics".

Firstly, the numbers that have always come out from the KKK states have been clearly shown to be inflated. Figures from the last polls show that clearly.

Secondly, the KKK votes were divvied up so much that they were no longer a core determinant.

Thirdly, PO got a very huge chunk of Kaduna votes, one of the much vaunted KKK. Over 25%, I believe. Facts will become clearer as the PEPT trial commences hearing.

Lastly, BAT clearly did not make the 25% in 25 states as you claim. Just wait quietly for the PEPT.

All the noise about PO knowing nothing about politics is becoming stale. In less than a year, without even a councilor, he beat you, together with your Ph.D in Nigerian politics, in Lagos and Rivers, infact, over one-third of the states.

Importantly, with evidence clearly showing PO won in Rivers, it is now evident that BAT did not win in any of the three most populated states - Lagos, Kano, Rivers, neither did he even get 25% in Abuja. How then did he win the elections?

livinbygrace:

No K..K .K, State votes ,no core northern Muslim state votes and he claimed to have won the election ?

Reading between the lines, IBB is saying that the country is in tatters and needs urgent attention.

This is essentially an assessment of the past administration and frankly, he is just being diplomatic with his words.

What remains to be seen is how one that ran a campaign hinged on hate towards the SE would be able to unite a country whose most potent binding force remains the people of the SE.

For those who would want to question how the SE is a binding force on the nation, they can as well ask how NYSC helps in uniting the country. Simply put, the SE has the single highest population of indigenes residing peacefully in states outside the SE.

Whatever the case, we from the SE will continue live among our countrymen as we have always done, with respect for their way of life and customs, albeit with our heads held high, and not as slaves like the BATists would want.
