simpleseyi:
Which faith are you people talking about? You are a Christian only because you are born in Eastern Nigeria or in Western Nigeria or in Europe or America. If you were born by parents who are Sokoto indigenes, you will be a Muslim today.

If Pope Francis was born in Saudi Arabia by Saudi indigenes, today he will be a Muslim. Also, if the king of Saudi Arabia and the Sheikh of Qatar were born in Owerri by Catholic parents, today they will both be staunch Catholics.

These religious bigots are just over the whole place. The whitemen brought their religions to colonize us. Imaging so-call Christian missionaries capturing our fore-fathers, chaining them down and transporting them to whiteman's land to work as slave. And you call them missionaries of God. The same way Usmand Dan Fodio waged war in the North in order to capture the North in the name of Islam even when Northern Nigeria by then was already practicing Islam. The whitemen came to tell us that our gods are evil and their god is good, yet the God the exported to us killed more people in the Bible and the Quran than the people all our gods (ogun, sango, obatala, oya, amadioha, okija e.t.c.) put together have been accused of killing.

I am a Muslim because I was born into Islam, my wife is a Christian because she was born into Christianity. We are happy together. You all practice one religion or the other because you were born into it. How many of us researched into all the religions of the world before concluding that the one you currently practice is the best. You cannot just have idea about one thing and say that it is the best in the world, until you compare and contract it with all others. ogun and sango worshipers are living peacefully with each other and you tell me that Christians and Muslims that are also at each others throat are better than ogun and sango worshippers.
you are a blessed man, so much wisdom in your words

I say a prayer for you that you will grow wiser and wiser and wiser

God bless you

The Vatican has asked for gay men and women to be given a
chance in the catholic faith as they have gifts and qualities to
offer the church. This call was made in a document released
yesterday October 13th by the Vatican after a week-long
Synod (Council of a church, usually convened to decide an
issue of doctrine,) attended by about 200 bishops, who
deliberated and came up with the resolution contained in a
document which is known by its latino name "relatio",
"Homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer the
Christian community: are we capable of welcoming these
people, guaranteeing to them a further space in our
communities? Often they wish to encounter a Church that
offers them a welcoming home," the document read..
The document also asked the Church to challenge itself to
find 'a fraternal space' for homosexuals without
compromising Catholic doctrine on family and matrimony.

PoliticsRe: 850 Soldiers Returning From Liberia To Be Quarantined by morefire: 1:45pm On Oct 13, 2014
maslong:
bout 850 Nigerian soldiers on peacekeeping
mission in Liberia are to be quarantined for 28
days when they return to the country in March
2015.
There are two battalions of the Nigerian Army in
Liberia.
Investigations revealed that soldiers in one of the
battalions were drawn from the 331 Artillery
Regiment, Kontagora.
A source said on Sunday that the Army personnel
were scheduled to return to the country in
January but that their arrival would be delayed till
March 2015.
According to the source, when they arrive in the
country in March 2015, they will be quarantined
in Gwagwalada, Abuja for 28 days before being
allowed to go to their formations.
It was gathered that the soldiers returning from a
similar mission in Sudan were not likely to be
quarantined because Sudan had not recorded
any Ebola case.
The source said that the Army authorities decided
to ensure a painstaking observation of soldiers
returning from Ebola infested countries because of
the danger posed by the disease.
The source said, “You know that our soldiers in
Liberia are to return to the country from two
mission areas, Liberia and Sudan.
“The men of the Nigerian Army Battalion 43, in
Sudan, will arrive in the country in December, and
may be allowed to go their units on arrival in the
country.
“But the arrival of their counterparts from Liberia,
who were initially supposed to arrive in the
country in January, will be delayed. The UN has
not approved their movement so they will leave
Liberia for Nigeria in March.
“Another thing is that even when they arrive in the
country, they will be kept at a military barracks
being built at Gwagwalada for 28 days before they
are released to go to their units.
“I think the authorities are just being careful; there
is no intent to demoralise anybody because we all
know the dangers of this Ebola Virus Disease.
“With the arrangement, only medical personnel
would be allowed access to them.
“You know that the World Health Organisation has
declared Nigeria Ebola free so all efforts would be
made to keep that status,” the source said
The Head of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps,
Major-General Obashina Ogunbiyi, had said during
a meeting of infectious diseases experts under the
aegis of the Ebola Treatment Research Group in
Abuja on Thursday that some Nigerian soldiers
had been quarantined in Liberia following the
death of a Sudanese who went to their camp to
pray with them.
The Sudanese was said to have died two days
after the prayer session and was believed to have
died of the EVD.
The Ebola Virus Disease “has landed among our
troops in Liberia after the death of the Sudanese.
The Sudanese entered the troops’ camp to pray
and two days later, he died. All troops were
quarantined this morning (Wednesday)… We
thought we were getting away but Ebola is still
with us. Anyone of those soldiers can come home
on holiday,” Ogunbiyi reportedly said.
Also, the Defence Headquarters said in a tweet on
its twitter handle on Friday that “all necessary
steps are being taken to ensure that no Nigerian
soldier is infected with the deadly virus while
serving in Liberia.”
The DHQ stated further in another tweet that the
troops were quarantined for “preventive purposes
and medical observation following the case of a
Sudanese, a UN employee who was reported to
have manifested … (the EVD).”
It was added that while no Nigerian soldier had
shown symptoms of the disease, they were still
confined to their camp.
Investigations further revealed that the Federal
Government might not send troops to replace the
two battalions in Liberia at the expiration of their
mission.
It was learnt that the remaining two battalions in
Liberia might not be replaced not necessarily
because of the Ebola threat, “which though is a
coincidence, but because the mission is winding
down.”
When our correspondent contacted the Director,
Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen Olajide Laleye,
on the issue of the move to place returning
soldiers from Liberia under observation for 28
days, he said that the Corps Commander Medical,
Maj.- Gen Ogunbiyi, was the most competent
person to speak on the issue.
He advised our correspondent to wait for a
statement from Ogunbiyi on Monday.
Laleye said, “The Corps Commander, Medical Maj.
Gen Ogunbiyi, will make a statement on it on
Monday; you are advised to wait for the statement
as I cannot comment on it.”
The Army spokesman also said issues relating to
the deployment or withdrawal of troops to Liberia
could only be decided at the policy level.
“The decision to send troops to Liberia was taken
at the national level and the decision not to send
troops can only be taken at the strategic level. I
cannot comment on that,” he said.

PoliticsObj Says He Has No Grudge Against Anyone In Pdp by morefire(op): 11:36am On Oct 13, 2014
The former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday said he bore no grudge against anybody in the Peoples Democratic Party.

Obasanjo’s Statement

During last week when I was in South Africa as the Chairman of AU Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan and while with my fellow Commissioners, we were deliberating on how to help that new country out of its problem of security and violence, I received avalanche of news and cacophony of appeals and pleadings from some quarters of PDP leadership.
There are misunderstandings and misrepresentations which some of those appeals and pleas manifested; hence this explanation from me. Talking of inviting me back to PDP is wrong and it is a great misrepresentation as I have never left PDP and I will never leave PDP. I have said it before and I will say it again, I rose to become the President of Nigeria on the platform of PDP and for that reason alone, I will remain a card-carrying and ward-active member of PDP for as long as I have to be a political party member.
Secondly, nobody has personally offended me as a result of my membership of PDP. If, however, anybody or group feels offended by my continued membership, I will offer an unreserved apology but continue to remain in the Party. I have had occasions to say to the President, the Senate President and the Party Chairman separately that I have no quarrel with any individual or group in the Party. There are, for me, issues of principle, morality, honour , integrity, commitment and character which are paramount.
For instance, as a former President of Nigeria, the Chairman of West Africa Commission on Drug and a member of Global Commission on Drug, I cannot accept that the Zonal leader of my political Party and, worse still in my zone, will be an indicted drug baron wanted in America. How do I explain that to friends outside Nigeria? This is only one of the many issues that I have pointed and still pointing out.
I have national and international standard to maintain and reputation to keep and sustain. For these reasons, I opted to remain active only at the ward level of the Party till the leadership does the needful.
But under no condition will my commitment to Nigeria be diminished. And, for me, it is commitment to Nigeria first and any other commitment can only follow in second or third place. Where any other commitment is in tandem with what I see and understand as commitment to Nigeria, such other commitment will share a pride of place with Nigeria.
I must hasten to thank the President, the Senate President and the Chairman of PDP with whom, at their instances, these issues have been discussed and laid to rest. My interest and commitment to Nigeria go beyond partisan politics.
Today, Nigeria needs all hands on deck to deal with our pressing problems of security including the issue of Chibok girls, widening inequality, infrastructure, impunity, corruption, poverty and youth education, skill-acquisition, empowerment and employment. These are issues of concern to most Nigerians. We all need to join hands to move Nigeria forward. I don’t need to be begged for that.
Rather, I beg and appeal to those who are begging me to realize that we must put Nigeria’s interest above politics – party or personal – otherwise, we will all be judged at the bar of history if not the bar of current affairs. In addition, we must preserve, sustain and deepen democracy and democratic practices.

The All Progressives Congress says ex-militant, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo-Asari, was involved in the $9.3m arms deal which led to the arrest of two Nigerians and an Israeli in South Africa.

The party, therefore, asked President Goodluck Jonathan to explain to Nigerians what Dokubo-Asari was doing on the plane where the money was found and confiscated by the South African authorities.

But Dokubo-Asari had distanced himself from the $9.3m botched arms deal.

The party said this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday.

It said, therefore, that the Federal Government had a lot of questions to answer on the deal, including whether Dokubo-Asari was the contractor or the end user, who he was procuring arms for and for what purpose.

The APC said the questions became pertinent because even the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), who issued the end-user agreement for the purchase, “does not and cannot purchase arms for any of the armed services.”

The statement read in part, “Under our constitution, the NSA is an adviser and has no executive powers to deploy troops from any of the services or purchase arms for them. That the arms purported to be purchased from South Africa were ordered from the office of the NSA is nothing but a mere fabrication, and raises serious questions about the motive for the purchase.

“Nigerians will therefore like to know on whose behalf Asari Dokubo was purchasing arms. This is very crucial because Asari Dokubo has been threatening that Nigeria will not know peace if his benefactor, President Jonathan, is not re-elected. Therefore, Nigerians will like to know whether he has started stockpiling arms to make his threat a reality, since elections are due in a few months’ time.

“If these arms are meant to fight insurgency, as the government has claimed, what is Asari Dokubo’s business purchasing arms for the Nigerian military, if indeed they were for the military? Does it not occur to the Nigerian government that this man who once took arms against the state may not have jettisoned his sinister plan against the same state?”

The party said the President should also come clean on the $5.7m that was also seized by South Africa on Monday. He said Jonathan would so well by revealing the identities of the Nigerians that were arrested in South Africa.

Dokubo-Asari in a telephone interview with journalists from Saudi Arabia where he is presently performing the 2014 Hajj, said the last time he visited South Africa was in 2002 and could not have gone to any country without a visa.

He said, “Can you enter any country without a visa? No person can enter any country without a visa. Presently, I am in Saudi Arabia performing my Hajj as the Amirul Hajj of Bayelsa State and this can be confirmed. I flew Flynass from Kaduna on September 27. So, it is really a shame that Lai Mohammed who has defiled the name of Allah has become a pathological and award-winning liar.

“Nobody enters any country without a visa and I have not been to South Africa since 2002. I flew Arik airline from Lagos on the September 27 and went to Kaduna where I flew Flynass airline and came to Saudi Arabia.”

Our President said its been 3 months since the girls were missing, really? Mr president, we know the speech was prepared for you, and all you needed to do was to read, but when you saw 3 months line, shouldn't you stop or correct yourself afterwards? instead you finished your speech.
To make matters worse you applied for a loan to fight people you know nothing about, you don't even know when they committed a grave crime in the country, and how old that crime is, yet you want a loan to buy gadgets to fight them. why are you buying the gadget? are the military hardware the solution? how did you know? are there verifiable reports to show this? you simply cant know all this things when you don't know for how long THE CHIBOK GIRLS HAVE BEEN MISSING.
Why do you need someone to tell you or help you write a speech on "gisting" international communities about what happened to chibok girls and what you are doing, what plans you have, what steps have been taking, what stage you are, the challenges you might be facing.

THIS IS A CALL TO ALL THE YOUTHS IN THIS COUNTRY THAT THIS REGIME HAS NO PLAN OR CLUE HAS TO WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE COUNTRY, THEY ONLY RUN BY A BRIEF THEY GOT FROM ONE OR TWO OF THEIR AIDES. PoliticsRe: BREAKING NEWS: Governor Elect Fayose Slapped Judge In Ekiti? by morefire: 6:02pm On Sep 25, 2014
expressglory: There was confusion at the premises of the Ekiti State High Court on Thursday morning as thugs believed to be loyal to the state Governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose, allegedly beat up a judge, Justice John Adeyeye, for being allegedly rude to Mr. Fayose.

The pandemonium that ensued scuttled the Ekiti State Governorship Election petition Tribunal sitting billed to hold today at the High court, Ado-Ekiti, as judicial workers abandoned their duty post and ran for safety.

Witnesses said the pro-Fayose thugs had besieged the court premises as early as 6a.m., while a detachment of policemen from the police headquarters were also seen on major streets and around the court.

Justice Adeyeye of High Court 3, who was miffed by the huge number of the thugs as they surged towards the court premises had approached Mr. Fayose and urged him to prevail on “his supporters” to keep a safe distance from the court premises, the witnesses said.

An enraged Mr. Fayose was said to have shouted the judge down while some even said he slapped him. Immediately, thugs numbering about 20 pounced on Justice Adeyeye, beat him up and tore his clothes, while his co workers scampered and shouted for help.

An attempt by another judge, Justice C. Akintayo to intervene and rescue his colleague who has been beaten to a pulp, earned him his own dirty slaps while his clothes were torn into shreds. The thugs thereafter made for the office of the Chief Judge and destroyed court records there, while smashing the windows. The CJs clerk was beaten into a state of coma while the CJ was ferried into safety by the security agents.

Following the development, judicial workers hurriedly shut down the court premises thereby preventing any court proceeding for hours before the police fired tear gas canisters to disperse the surging crowd.

Justice Adeyeye is presently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

A similar scenario had played out on Monday when suspected PDP thugs stormed the high court premises, attacked the trial judge, some litigants and judicial workers in the bid to prevent hearing in a case to determine Mr. Fayose’s eligibility for the June 21 governorship election.(Though the governor elect was not physically present on Monday)

It will be recalled that E-Eleven’ and Citizens Party had gone to the court to challenge the eligibility of Fayose and asked it to stop him from participating in the last election. The court ruled earlier in the that it has jurisdiction to hear the case and was about to continue the hearing today.

xtervaganza: Owners of the new iPhone 6 Plus have been left angered as it emerged the phone can bend out of shape simply when stored in a pocket.

Since the new model launched on Friday, a small but growing number of iPhone 6 Plus owners have reported the issue that significantly alters the appearance of the phone.

The problem, dubbed 'bend gate' by some on social media sites, is due to the phone's thin aluminium exterior - but can be solved by ensuring the middle of the phone is not subjected to a large force.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NA LIE JARE

It is believed the thinner model, in addition to the use of aluminium metal in its design, causes the phone to deform.

MacRumors detailed on Tuesday that 'a small but growing number of iPhone 6 Plus owners have reportedly bent their phones after carrying the devices in their pockets just days after launch'.

One forum user known as 'hanzoh' claimed his iPhone 6 plus was 'slightly bent' after he drove with the device in his pocket

Ayed44: Nobody expected such a news story this week, but it seems that Facebook will no longer be a free service.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced at a press conference in Menlo Park, California that the company is unable to keep up with the costs of Facebook and a
monthly fee for users is inevitable.

Zuckerberg has explained that Facebook is growing with hundreds and thousands of members signing up each day and the advertisement system Facebook currently uses is not enough to cover all the costs the social media giant needs to keep the site running. He also said that if Facebook continues to remain a free service, there is the possibility of it having to shut down because of the lack of funding. “After thinking long and hard about this decision, at the end of the day, we were forced to add this monthly fee. If we don’t do something about our rising costs now, Facebook could cease to exist in the near future.” – said Mark Zuckerberg.

Facebook currently has about
1.317 billion users and if just %75 of those users start paying the $2.99 monthly fee, the yearly profit would be about $3 billion. Astounding.

Reportedly, Paul Horner, Facebook
spokesperson, said that there could be a way to waive the monthly fee for users who don’t have the money to pay. He said that even though
Facebook would begin implementing the new user fee starting November 1st, they don’t want to lose their members just because they can’t
afford to pay the monthly subscription fee. He said that users should update their status with the following statement:

I AM POOR FACEBOOK
PLEASE WAIVE MY MONTHLY FEE with the #FacebookMonthlyFee hashtag included.

What do you think? Is Facebook looking to get a little more money out of its users? Are you going to ask them to waive your monthly fee or do you think Facebook is worth paying for? http://idreamzmedia.com/facebook-to-begin-charging-users-2-99mo-starting-november-1st/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

PoliticsRe: Opinion: 40 Things You Won't Hear In The Nigeria Media About Goodluck Jonathan by morefire: 2:40pm On Sep 17, 2014

The Goodluck Jonathan administration no doubt has had its good and bad times just like any other administration charged with the leadership of a large and diverse entity such as Nigeria. In the 4 years that he has been the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, there have been flaws which are all well documented in the local and international media. Over the course of those four years there have also been successes and giant leaps which often receive little or no media coverage and public attention. This may not be unconnected with the notion that “bad news is good for business” in journalism. The simple fact that bad news catches the attention of the public more than a good news may be the reason for the Nigerian press’ myopic and indifferent reportage of the great feats of the current administration.

President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan has often challenged Nigerians to compare his administration’s achievements with those of his predecessors before they judge him, but getting a comprehensive list of those achievements is usually a daunting task due to the paucity of information and Nigeria’s poor reputation when it comes to record-keeping. Below is a list of some of the ways in which the Goodluck Jonathan presidency has silently transformed Nigeria from its dark ages of underdevelopment to a 21st century economic and political force. The list, however, is not complete and it may be missing out on some key developments.

1. Promotion and practice of true democracy by creating an enabling environment where people from diverse backgrounds and with divergent views and opinions can be accommodated. Under his watch, the APC was registered by INEC as a mega opposition party big enough to challenge the PDP at both state and national levels. This would have been unthinkable some years back.

2. Conduct of free and fair elections in the country, including the 2011 poll which was adjudged to be the most credible election of its magnitude that has ever been conducted in the country, though it was not without its flaws. Unlike in other administrations, the Goodluck Jonathan presidency has given a free hand to the country’s electoral umpire, INEC, to perform its statutory duties.

3. Relative non-interference with electoral and judicial matters as evident in the number of governorship elections that have been won both at the polls and in the court by opposition parties in Anambra, Imo, Osun, among others.

4. Liberalization of the press and guaranteeing the freedom of speech in a country where the stifling of the press and suppression of the citizens’ right to freedom of speech used to be the norm; a legacy of over 30 years of military rule. The existence of vocal anti-government media houses and critics would have culminated in some high profile assassinations some years back, but today citizens are free to air their views whenever and wherever they like just like any other sane country.

5. Opening up of Nigeria to the global business community and becoming Africa’s number one destination of foreign investors. In the first six months of 2014, a total of US$9.70 billion or N1.51 trillion flowed into the national economy as foreign direct investments (FDI).

6. Under the Jonathan administration, Nigeria re-based it’s GDP for the first time in over a decade to become the largest economy in Africa, overtaking South Africa and Egypt in the process.

7. Nigeria now has one of the fastest growing large economies in the world with an annual GDP growth rate of over 7.3. Nigeria is on course to break into the 20 largest economies of the world by 2020.

8. The Nigerian foreign exchange reserve reached an all-time high of US$38.1 billion in January 2014.

9. Proceeds from Nigeria’s non-oil exports rose to $2.97 billion by the end of 2013, up from $2.3 billion in 2010.

10. Establishment of the sovereign wealth fund of Nigeria in 2012; the first time Nigeria has done so since independence in 1960. It currently stands at US$1.3 billion. According to an entry on Wikipedia about sovereign wealth funds, “SWFs are typically created when governments have budgetary surpluses and have little or no international debt. This excess liquidity is not always possible or desirable to hold as money or to channel into immediate consumption. This is especially the case when a nation depends on raw material exports like oil, copper or diamonds. In such countries, the main reason for creating a SWF is because of the properties of resource revenue: high volatility of resource prices, unpredictability of extraction, and exhaustibility of resources.”

11. Initiation of the YOUWIN program in 2011. The Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YOUWIN) program aims to generate over 100,000 jobs for innovative unemployed youths across the country in the course of three years. It is currently in its third year.

12. Nigerians are now a step closer to being fully integrated into the international e-commerce community with the approval and reinclusion of Nigeria as one of the Paypal-compliant countries after being banned from using the service at the peak of the advanced fee fraud (419 scams). With Paypal, Nigerians can now pay for goods and services online from anywhere in the world.

13. Establishment of the Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) in 2010 to stabilize Nigeria’s banking and corporate sector.

14. Revival of the dead automotive industry in Nigeria, by making the country the top destination for investments in automobile manufacturing. Global auto giants like Peugeot, Nissan and Hyundai now either assemble or wholly manufacture small cars, Sport Utility Vehicles, trucks and buses at various locations in Nigeria. In addition to that, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM), Nigeria’s flagship indigenous automaker, began the sale of their first made-in-Nigeria cars and SUVs in August.

15. Nigeria became the first country in West Africa to host the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2014. It was also the most successful World Economic Forum for Africa (WEFA) in history, boasting of a global reach of 2.1 billion people according to estimates.

16. Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote’s net worth increased from US$2.1 billion at the start of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration to US$23 billion in 2014, making him Forbes’ richest black person in the world and the overall 26th richest in the world. He attributed this mammoth increase in his monetary worth to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s favourable economic policies.

17. Construction and beautification of many federal roads in the country, including the Lagos-Benin expressway, Abuja-Lokoja expressway, Enugu-Abakiliki expressway, Onitsha-Owerri highway and most parts of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

18. Construction of the second Niger Bridge between Onitsha and Asaba to relieve the pressure on the old Niger Bridge which was completed in December 1965.

19. Revival of the comatose railway system
of transportation in the country.

20. Remodelling, beautification and standardization of airports across the country. In addition to that, aircraft from Nigeria are now allowed to fly directly to the United States of America instead of going through many stopovers in Amsterdam and some other European cities along/in the route.

21. Upgrading the Akanu Ibiam Airport in Enugu into an international airport, directly connecting the South-East region of the country to the outside world for the first time since independence.

22. Dredging of the lower Niger River and increasing the accessibility of inland ports such as Onitsha and Lokoja.

23. Establishment of 9 federal universities across the country in states which previously had no federal degree awarding institution.

24. Computerizing education in the country with the introduction of the computer-based test (CBT) which will be mandatory for all UTME candidates from 2015.

25. Introduction of the Almajiri system of education in the academically disadvantage northern parts of the country.

26. Totally eradicating or bringing to the barest minimum once-endemic diseases like poliomyelitis and guinea worm in the country.

27. Arresting the outbreak of the deadly and highly contagious Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in record time, though it unfortunately claimed some lives at the onset.

28. Transformation of the agricultural sector so that, in the words of Agriculture minister Akinwumi Adesina, “Nigerians will stop thinking of agriculture just as a means of livelihood, but more as a business.”

29. Nigeria has reduced its food imports by over 40% as of 2013, moving the country closer to self sufficiency in agriculture.

30. Nigeria is the world’s largest producer of cassava with an output of over 45 million metric tonnes in 2014 according to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

31. Due to favourable economic policies, internet penetration in Nigeria has now increased from about 45 million in 2011 to 63 million in 2014, overtaking countries such as the United Kingdom and France in the process. What this means is that more people now use the internet in Nigeria than in the UK and France.

32. As of the second quarter of 2014, the number of registered active telephone lines in Nigeria stood at 130 million out of a total of over 170 million telephone lines.

33. Introduction of the Nigerian electronic identity card (e-ID card), one of the most secure in the world and the largest in Africa. The e-ID card serves as both an international identification module and an electronic payment solution.

34. Introduction of the cash-less system which aims to encourage the use of e-payment systems in the country and reduce the volume of physical cash in circulation.

35. Unbundling of the dysfunctional Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) into about 18 profit-driven successor companies.

36. In October 2013, Nigeria was elected into the United Nation’s Security Council as a non-permanent, non-veto member
. It is currently in its two-year tenure of 2014-15. It is the second time Nigeria will be a member of the exclusive club in Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency having been part of the Security Council in 2011-12. Nigeria previously served on the Security Council from 1966-67, 1978-79, 1994-95 and 2011-12.

37. The Nigeria national under-17 football team won an unprecedented 4th world title in 2013, making Nigeria the most successful country in the tournament’s history with four titles and three runner ups.

38. Under the watch of President Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria won the African Cup of Nations for the first time in 19 years in South Africa in February, 2013.

39. Nigeria ended up with 11 gold , 11 silver and 14 bronze medals at the recently concluded 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, finishing 8th in the overall ranking.

40. Women in politics have been given more prominent roles in the current administration. A large number of the federal appointees of the Goodluck Jonathan administration are women. They include, but are not limited to, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Miriam Aloma Mukhtar, Nigeria’s first female Chief Justice; Diezani Alison-Madueke; ex-aviation minister Stella Oduah, Joy Ogwu, Nigeria’s representatives at the United Nations; Sarah Jibril; and Viola Onwuliri.
