I Lost £100m Investing In Dubious Nigerian Oil Firms, Tennis Legend, Boris Becker Declares Bankrupt

German news magazine, Der Spiegel – citing documents from soccer whistleblowing platform, Football Leaks – said Becker struck the deal in 2013, which contributed to his recent bankruptcy. Spiegel said the ‘mega-deal’ was brokered by a Canadian firm and a Nigerian employee of Becker.

It said documents show that in July 2013 Becker held shares in an oil and petrol firm in Nigeria. But the investments tanked and last month he was declared bankrupt. John Briggs, Becker’s lawyer, told the London court: ‘He is not a sophisticated individual when it comes to finances.’

Becker, now 49, was once estimated to be worth upwards of £100million. He was declared bankrupt over undisclosed sums owed to London-based private bankers Arbuthnot Latham & Co since 2015.

Remaining assets will be disposed of to pay creditors. Among earlier cash woes, Becker was landed with divorce and paternity settlements in 2001 totalling more than £20million – to his first wife, Barbara, and Angela Ermakova, the Russian model who had his baby after a brief encounter in a London restaurant.

The next year Becker received a two-year suspended sentence for tax evasion. He was ordered to pay £2.5million in back tax, fines, and costs after claiming Monaco as his main residence while mostly living in Munich. And in 2011 a Dubai property development to which he lent his name went bust.

Controversial Nigerian prophet and cleric, Primate Babatunde Elijah Ayodele, has revealed that the life of the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is in danger. He also revealed that the Acting President was struggling with a cabal in the Presidency that wants to see him dethroned.

The Prophet further said that the result of the Osun by-election should not make the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, feel it is finally back. He stressed that the Wednesday last week’s Supreme Court judgment that that installed Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the party’s national chairman means the PDP was on its way to gradual recovery.

In his words....

“Many things will still be exposed about the plots against him. “There are so many things we don’t see now; the vice president is struggling against the cabal. As it is now, the villa is vacant. “We have just started. With Makarfi back in the saddle, PDP will be on its way to gradual recovery if they take the right steps.

“As it is PDP needs proper cleansing. Makarfi can still bring the party back but if the party brings the wrong person for the presidential election in 2019, the party may not win. “The APC will now have crisis with Makarfi returning except they are able to put their house in order and re-strategise if the party is to retain power.

“At end of the day, it may neither be APC nor PDP that will get the centre if they fail to present sellable candidates. I don’t want to talk about candidates now; at the appropriate time I will reveal that. “What I am saying is that Makarfi can still stabilize PDP. What happens in Osun does not mean that PDP is back.

“They should reorganize the party properly and do the right in the party. At the same time APC is cracking. “If APC wishes to retain the Presidency, they should also ensure they put their house in order.”

In another news, FG Poised To Stop Production Of Nigerian Movies & Music Abroad - Lai Mohammed

See @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2017/07/fg-poised-to-stop-production-of.html

The Federal Government says it has taken steps to amend the Nigeria Broadcasting Code to discourage the production of Nigerian movies and music outside the shore of the country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made this known on Saturday in Lagos when he paid a visit to the headquarters of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON). The Minister decried the situation whereby films, reality TV shows and music, were made outside Nigeria, for consumption by Nigerians. He said the situation had hampered empowerment of practitioners in the industry, the development of the sector and the nation’s economy in general.

“This government has agreed that henceforth, whatever we consume in Nigeria in terms of music and films, must be made in Nigeria. “We cannot continue to go to South Africa or any other country to produce our films and then send them back to be consumed in Nigeria. “The Broadcasting Code and the Advertising Code are very clear on this.

“For you to classify a product as a Nigerian product, it must have a certain percentage of Nigerian content,” he said. The Minister noted that what was happening today was that Nigerian artists were often flown out of this country to go and make their recordings.

“When they get there, they will patronise the economy of that country and then bring the products back to Nigeria for us to consume. “It is like somebody going to China or Japan to make a product that looks like palm wine and bring it back home to label it Nigerian palm wine”. He stressed that “as long as we are not able to implement our own code to ensure local production of Nigerian music and movies, , our young talents will not get jobs”.

“It is Nigerians that pay for the consumption of these products and therefore they must be allowed and encouraged to participate in their production. “I am going to meet with the relevant stakeholders over this, to see that whatever amendment that is needed to be made to our Broadcasting Code in this regard, is done urgently, ” he said.

To encourage local production of films and music, the Minister said that Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission had put forward a proposal to classify the Creative Industry and grant it a pioneer status. He said that with the pioneer status, the creative industry would be entitled to certain incentives and tax holiday.

According to NAN, the Minister said that there would also be waivers for shipment of imported music and films production equipment. He stressed that the federal government was committed to making the creative industry viable, dynamic and sustainable. Mohammed said that as one of the key areas for diversification of the economy, the creative industry would be private sector-driven, while government would create the enabling environment for its growth.

The Minister lauded COSON and its management team for achieving a lot in seven years of existence.

“I am very proud of COSON because in terms of excellence and competence, COSON can compete with any known international brand. “COSON is operating in a tough environment where people believe that intellectual property of people belong to no one and is meant for the use of all, without compensation. “The body has however done a lot in copyright royalty collection and distribution since its inception in 2010,” he said.

Rita Ojukwu, a Facebook user, shared this devastating photos of how her place was flooded during the torrential rain fall and said it is indeed the most surprising gift she has ever gotten on her birthday.

According to Rita, she turned a year plus on Sunday, 9th of July, 2017 but the birthday celebration was marred by Mother Nature. She claimed that she and her family woke up in the middle of the night to find out that their house and property have been submerged in the flooded area.

She took to Facebook to share photos of the havoc wrecked by the flood, tagging it as her ‘surprise birthday present’. Rita stated that they had to move their kids from the house in Suleja by 3a.m after her birthday gift arrived.

Really very funny and pitiable.
