A very sad story reaching us this morning is that an enterprising young man simply identified as Murphy, was shot dead by suspected cultists yesterday morning being Friday 16th June, 2017.

The incident happened along Ebito by Maya avenue, Calabar South, Rivers State. I pray the security operatives in this state investigates and catch this cultists.

Five suspected robbers have raided Living Faith Church (aka Winners Chapel) at Itanla on Ondo-Akure Road in Ondo State carting away with cash and other valuables estimated at several thousands of naira.

According to report, the hoodlums ransacked the church immediately they arrived at 2 a.m in a Toyota Prado Jeep, locked up the security men in a room after disposing them of their guns and phones, then they headed to the school building within the church premises.

They proceeded to the computer room where they made away with some items. Report from The Nation Newspaper, has it that the money and valuables they stole ran into several thousands of Naira.
One of the security men who was an eyewitness at the incidence scene, said he and his colleagues saw the armed robbers as they drove into the church premises and started shooting into the air.

However, the situation was put under control eventually and religious activities resumed in the church.

Police spokesman Femi Joseph, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), told The Newsmen he had not been briefed on the incident but promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Bolorunduro for details on the matter.

Immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole yesterday paid a surprise visit to his “daughter” who was celebrating her 15th birthday. Miss Joyce Imasuen Osaivbie a blind but highly intelligent young girl is currently a student of Queens College Lagos.

This blissful relationship started a few years ago when Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his wife Iara discovered this physically challenged girl whose father and elder brother are equally blind. From that moment they took over responsibility for her education and personal needs and fondly refer to her their daughter.

So when Comrade Adams Oshiomhole realised that yesterday June 7th was her birthday, he decided to honour her in a grand style by paying her a surprise visit in their modest family home with a beautiful cake to celebrate the special day.

To add colour and glamour to the visit he went with an entourage of over 40 persons which included the honourable Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, the Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader, 18 other honourable members of the House, ex-commissioners and his personal aides.

Recent heavy criticism seems to have awaken the Federal Government's proactiveness in handling the issues concerning the ports in the country. As part of efforts to implement the Executive Order on the ease of doing business at the seaports signed recently by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) has said that only seven agencies are authorized to operate in the port.

NPA said the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were no longer allowed to have representatives in the port or partake in the process of cargo clearance.

Managing Director of NPA Hadiza Bala Usman, who stated this at a meeting with the representatives of select Federal Government agencies and port stakeholders in Apapa, Lagos yesterday, said the federal government’s directive of 2011, which reduced the number of agencies at the port from 14 to seven remains valid.

She listed NPA, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Maritime Administration ad Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Department of State Security (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Immigration Service and Port Health Services as the agencies authorised by government to operate in the port. She said:

“I want to first recognise the seven approved agencies of government that operate in the port. In 2011, an approval was granted by the then President to streamline the agencies of the government just for ease of referencing, “I will like to reiterate those agencies of government that are operating at the port. We have NPA as the landlord, Customs, NIMASA, DSS, Police, Nigerian Immigration Service and the Port Health.

“These are the seven agencies that are mandated and have approval to operate in the port. Any agency that is operating in the port outside of these seven agencies is not required to be in the port and should be aware that they need to vacate whatever location they are currently having within the port because the current approval and position provides that they are not to operate in the port.

“We have the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) which is required to come in and provide their function as at when is required. This is the current position on agencies of government that operate in the port,” she said.

Bala Usman said each of the agencies required to be at the port have issued directives to their staff in line with implementation of the executive order. She said NPA will soon establish a port community system, which will serve as central portal, where all agencies and stakeholders operating in the port will interact and harmonise their operations.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali said Nigeria Customs Service had embarked on a change process that requires the full commitment of other stakeholders.

“We are trying to reduce the time and process in what we are doing and it is only when we abide by this that we can do that. I want to enjoin all of you to join hands with us and make sure that we implement this to the latter. “When the orders are fully implemented, we will succeed in the mandate and it will also reduce time of doing business at the port,” he said.

Also speaking, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Maritime Police command, Pius Imueh said all Commissioners of Police and Area Commanders have been duly informed of the executive orders on port operation and on the need to secure the movement of goods leaving the port across the country.

Following Kaduna State Governor, El-Rufai’s directive, the police in Kaduna said a manhunt has been launched for the signatories to the statement. The manhunt, according to the police, is backed by the order given by Kaduna State government to have them arrested.

In his reaction, Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Moshood Jimoh stated that every Nigerian has a right to live anywhere in the country as enshrined in the constitution. According to him; “Kaduna state government has reacted promptly to the issue. We are also using this opportunity to warn anybody that wants to foment trouble to beware because we will deal decisively with such group or persons.”

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in a statement expressed regret over the outburst of the Arewa youths. The statement signed by Chukwudi Ibegbu, national deputy publicity secretary said “this invidious act has no doubt sent shock wave over the country. The President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief Nnia Nwodo call on Ndigbo all over the North to remain calm but vigilant.”

According to Vanguard, Ohanaeze expressed hope that Nigerian security agencies will do the needful by protecting the lives and properties of all Nigerians in general and Ndigbo in particular in the North in view of the threats. Nwodo said he would not react to the statement made by the Northern youths until the northern elders speak on the matter.

“I will not react to a statement made by the Northern youth. I will not. If their fathers speak, then I will summon my executive and we deliberate on it. Thereafter, I will speak. It is our hope that the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders Forum will also rise to the challenges of the moment,” he said.

Our constitution which we operate guarantees free movement of all Nigerians to any part of the country to pursue their legitimate businesses. No group of persons or individuals have the mandate to threaten any group or individual in pursuance of his legitimate businesses as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. ACF will not support anything that will bring disunity of the country and affect its corporate existence.”

An Evil man who kept six young sisters as sex slaves at his home after he was ‘gifted’ them by their parents faces life in prison. Police found Lee Kaplan, 51, was found living with 12 women and girls who were all related in Pennsylvania last year.

Six of them were the daughters of Amish couple Daniel and Savilla Stoltzfus. Prosecutors say the girls were “gifted” by the parents to Kaplan after he provided the family with financial help. Kaplan repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted them and the oldest victim, aged 18, bore two of his children, also girls.

Eventually Daniel Stoltzfus also “gifted” his wife Savilla to Kaplan “in hopes of strengthening the Stoltzfus bloodlines.” The Stoltzfus’ were also arrested and admitted child endangerment. They confessed that they knew Kaplan was having sex with their 14-year-old daughter and even “researched the legality of the deal on the internet”, police said.

Kaplan denied 17 charges including child rape, sexual assault and indecent assault and was convicted by a jury on Tuesday. During the harrowing trial, all the girls aged 9 to 19 gave evidence about their sick life at the hands of Kaplan, who described himself as a prophet of God.

They were rarely allowed to leave the house as Kaplan told them the outside world would ruin them. They spent their days tending to crops in the garden and being ‘home-schooled’ by Kaplan. But the alarm was eventually raised after neighbour Jen Betz called police last year.

She said the house seemed strange.

“My gut was telling me to confirm what I was thinking,” she told CNN. “There was no reason why this older – significantly older man, any man, regardless of what they look like – would have this amount of children, all in blue dresses, never outside the house regularly, looking so scared.”

Kaplan’s lawyer Ryan Hyde said he continues to deny the offences and will look at appeal options. “He’s said from the very beginning he didn’t do these things,” he told Philly.com “He had hoped for a better outcome.”
