Politics / Re: Yaradua's Assets - N500 Million: Could It Be True? by mowapa(m): 1:16am On Mar 28, 2007
@AFAM

Since you write as if you have an insight, please tell me and others here how his family made such money!.My Nigeria of the 60-80s was not known for that kind of networth especially if you were a civil servant(and he was one). Yes! his brother was the No2 person in the regime of Gen.OBJ and the crookery that was perpetuated during that time. The ability to make this sum of money in a level playing field was/is just of recent by liberalized economy of IBB. Until some better explanation is forwarded to us(citizen) his wealth will continue to be suspicious. I blame our journalist in all this, wonder where their investigative instinct is?

I agree with you 101%. It is really comforting to know that not a single negative comment or allegation has been made against this man. Sometimes I wonder if this is happening in Nigeria, a presidential flag bearer without a dent, salvation is near in my opinion because if the head is not corrupt it will be easy for others to follow suit.

Thank God for democracy, otherwise who would have given a clean man like this an opportunity to lead this great nation.

Wonder what you thinking pal? you agree 101% that a civil servant with 500m networth is right! God help us from people like you. The probable reason, no negative comment was attached to his name is that much was not known about him because he lives a recluse life and govern over mostly semi-illiterate populace. Now that he has offered himself for sacrifice, its another story all together. Welcome to the BIG LEAGUE.
Politics / Re: Yaradua's Assets - N500 Million: Could It Be True? by mowapa(m): 5:31pm On Mar 27, 2007
Why do we assume that Yar'dua is the saving grace Nigeria needs, its so pitiful how some commentators are defending 500m as if that is easily attainable for majority of the population. A heartless and stone head has fostered on us his choice and we are here debating his worth, for most people here that is a goal that might be unachievable( i know my father served this country as a police officer and never came close to being a millionaire before he died).

Nigerian need to be told how he came about such net worth, I know in this stock market generation its doable, but not in the 60s-80 without seeping or soiling your hand in questionable deals.
Politics / Re: 'President Obasanjo Does Not Own The Bell Schools" - Ribadu by mowapa(m): 5:13pm On Mar 27, 2007
If OBJ and his family do not own bell, then who does? the phenomenon growth of that school in term of structural development is at par with AB TI. If the loan ruse could be believed, @ what rate was the loan granted. everything that this president has done since 99 in his private capacity is so unethical he should have his own private wing with his cabinet at kirikiri.

We should reserve our anger toward Ribadu as i seriously believe that chap is no dummy, he will soon start singing a new tune when he knows OBJ albatross is no longer hanging around his neck.
Politics / Ladoja Panel Indicts Akala, Adedoja: by mowapa(m): 3:19am On Mar 27, 2007
AN Administrative Panel of Enquiry set up by the Oyo State government reportedly following a series of petitions has indicted the state deputy governor, Chief Bayo Alao-Akala, and former chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Taoheed Adedoja.

The panel, therefore, recommended that the two, who are governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Action Congress (AC) in the state, be banned from holding any public office or positions of public responsibility in the future.

Politics / Nigeria Donates Equipment To Liberian Police by mowapa(m): 8:22pm On Mar 25, 2007
The Nigerian government on Friday donated 12 police patrol vans, bullet proof vests, tear gas and riot shields to the Liberian national police.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, who received the logistics from Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia Eneje Onobu in Monrovia, said "Nigeria has always been a true friend to Liberia."

Last December, Nigeria supplied the national police a consignment of side firearms and other police equipment in response to a request from the Liberian government to combat armed robbery in the country.

The donation followed the UN Security Council's partial lifting of the arms embargo on the post-war West African nation.

Onobu said the latest assistance to the Liberian police demonstrated Nigeria's contribution to the ongoing reform of the country's security sector.

"This commitment and even sacrifice in blood and resources has been impelled by the belief in the common destiny of our peoples and their shared determination to work together," said the ambassador.

Politics / Re: 'President Obasanjo Does Not Own The Bell Schools" - Ribadu by mowapa(m): 10:29pm On Mar 23, 2007
Ribadu should resign his position starting now! if as head of EFCC the man could not ascertain as of now that Obasanjo family owns the Bell Schools, then he does not deserve to head such organization. either held in trust or not the person calling the shot as of last year was one onaolapo soleye a trusted ally and confidant.

On the issue of stock ownership, how could Ribadu believe such lie that loans were secured for the transaction, you may have to be a slowpoke to bite that B. S and i want assume H.R is not one. Every personal business made by the OBJ firms since he became the President is so unethical that in any "civilized" country it would have brought his government down. I know as a private citizen of Naija, I do not have a proof to say otherwise, neither did i have one to call Abacha and IBB corrupt. We all know he who pays the piper dictate the tune, there will be another person paying the piper soon, what song will Ribadu sing then.
Politics / 'President Obasanjo Does Not Own The Bell Schools" - Ribadu by mowapa(m): 6:04am On Mar 23, 2007
He does not have a penny in establishing any media; even the controversial Transcorp's share had been investigated and was discovered that it was bought with a loan from the United Bank for Africa (UBA); the operational word here is a loan. It is UBA's money not Obasanjo's money."

On the issue of the alleged involvement of the President in Bells University, Ribadu said, "We have investigated him; he doesn't own it, even though he has the right to own property. We have the fact and Nigerians would soon know."

Its just sad that nothing shocks the Nigerian psyche anymore, we hear of millions of naira being thrown around and just shrug it off as nothing . Damn, it just piss me off that after eight years of looting at all level of government, non of them may/will ever spend a day in jail. It just not fair to be so defrauded by EFCC and ICPC, their leader should spend the jail time meant for the politicians.

I have resolved to ignore their threat and damn the consequences and I repeat as Akala’s godfather, that he would neither respond nor appear at the kangaroo panel and there is nothing they can do on this,” Alhaji Adedibu declared.

PEOPLE! PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE!!!!!!!

I HAVE A PREMONITION THAT THE INVISIBLE LINE WILL BE CROSSED SOON

PREACH UNITY!!! GOD BLESS NIGERIA..

In February, 2003, Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa, sharply criticized Bush and his drive for war, saying, "If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America." Mandela also said, "One power with a president who has no foresight -- who cannot think properly -- is now wanting to plunge the world into a holocaust

Did Bush or America react to it? NO! because it may polarize their Nation, considering Mandela is revered by notable Black Americans. We can ignore this topic and issue raised by the sultan too or inflame it.

I seriously want to believe that the political section of Nairaland is populated by mature people that can discern, understand sensitive political and religious issues. To those young blood here, please note the Sultan is both a political and Spiritual leader to almost half the population of Nigeria. Anything that would cause or threaten our unity should not be allowed, peace! BE SENSITIVE AND CIVILIZED IN YOUR OPINION.

I hope your post is not meant to bring the Sultan into ridicule? by his position, he is more than qualified to speak on National issues. This forum should not be allowed to degenerate our revered fathers or bring division to bear on Nigeria unity and let me reiterate that i am Yoruba and a Christian. I maybe wrong about your intent, but this could be hijacked by others to cause trouble. Lets be prudent with our criticism when people that represent our heritage are concerned.P E A C E!

Nigeria Loves Us!

In the new (and newly redesigned) issue of TIME, we run a poll graphic that hasn't been posted on the site yet that caught my eye. It's drawn from a BBC World Service poll in which people around the globe were asked to rate the influence of other nations. No surprise -- as the item says, "the U.S. has fallen sharply in world esteem over the past three years." But what did have me scratching my head was the handful of countries where the U.S. still has a very positive rating -- led by Nigeria, where 72% of the respondents view U.S. influence positively. I have no idea what explains this. Besides the fact that it's an oil-producing nation -- and one of the most corrupt countries in the world. -- I know very little about Nigeria. Anyone else able to explain what makes America so unusually popular there? (Filipinos and Kenyans also have very positive feelings about the U.S.)

I think it's about time we should look at the CUBA model, if Nigeria will ever be able to take care of its citizen

Cuba currently has over 2000 health professionals providing aid in 57 countries, they don't have(allow) private clinic or doctors The Cuban government operates a national health system and assumes full fiscal and administrative responsibility for the health care of its citizens. No private hospitals or clinics are permitted.

Did you know what Cuba medical schools capacity is? Thirty thousand! There are about 15000 studying medicine now, which of course includes some foreigners. Because the production of physicians came to exceed the country's internal requirements (Cuba's physician per population ratio is 1 per 255, as compared to 1 to 430 in the United States, Cuba has been able to export primary care practitioners and specialists for periods of service in other Third World nations. Decisions to send doctors abroad have responded to official requests by the governments of these countries. More than 10,000 Cuban physicians have served abroad, with as many as 1,500 at a single time

Perhaps the most important lesson that can come from studying public health in Cuba is the level of creativity, innovation and success that can be brought to bear to the benefit of a population's health through a simple but fundamental decision to make healthcare one of the highest priorities of a society and an economy.

While PDP and A C were fretting away our money, "REAL" Nigerians dey suffer. please read this

In the household of Latifa Adeniyi, an unemployed young lady living at Oritagbaemu, Osogbo in Osun State, these are not the best of times. A situation that should have brought immense joy to her entire household has, ironically, become a source of untold pain and anguish.

Since February 25, when she gave birth to a bouncing set of triplets, joy seems to have taken flight out of her life. Soon after she delivered her babies, their dad suddenly vanished. And while she was trying to get over that, two of the babies died. And now, she can no longer hide her sorrow.

“I have been very unfortunate,” she tells Daily Sun. “I was very happy when I gave birth to the triplets. But my joy was cut short on the first day and now, things are finally falling apart for me and my family.”

Latifa’s agony started shortly after the birth of her babies. A young lady without any visible means of livelihood, she had been intimately involved with a young commercial motorbike operator named, Adeniyi Ajibola. According to her, their relationship was “accidental,” and they never planned for a pregnancy. But the young man still stood by her until she delivered.

“As soon as he discovered that this young lady had given birth to a set of triplets, he shouted, “‘Oh my God! What is this?’ He then went out. And since then, we’ve not seen him. He has run away,” said Latifa’s grandmother, Madam Hasanatu Shittu.
Both Mama and Latifa were still contemplating how they would cope with three kids when two of the babies fell ill. Before they could get any help, both had died. Latifa’s grandmum explains the reason for their sudden death.

“They lacked nutrition. I was the one breastfeeding the triplets before the two died. When they fell ill, we had to rush them to the native doctor because we had no money to take them to the hospital. We have been crying for help since the babies were delivered, but we never got any positive response.”
Latifa’s health has taken a turn for the worse since her babies died.

She has been bleeding and I had to take her to the hospital. Latifa is appealing to good Nigerians to come to her assistance in order to save her remaining baby. I’m appealing to Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and his wife to come to our aid. We have no money. But I don’t want my remaining baby to die. God will bless anybody that comes to our aid,” she says with tears in her eyes.

Politics / Re: Should Nigeria Adopt The Jury System? by mowapa(m): 2:10am On Mar 14, 2007
Jury service is one of the most important civic duties that anyone can be asked to perform. You do not need any knowledge of the legal system to be a juror. The experiences and knowledge of each person summoned to serve will differ, yet each individual juror will be asked to consider the evidence presented and then decide whether the defendant is guilty or not.

As a juror, you must tell a court official immediately if at any point during the trial you recognize the defendant, a witness, the judge, an advocate or solicitor. Failure to do this could result in an unfair trial. The judge will decide whether you should remain on the jury or not.

Once the trial begins you will be able to take notes, but you are not allowed to take your notes outside the courtroom or jury room. Jurors can only discuss the case when all jury members are present and in private. It is illegal to discuss the case with anyone who is not a member of your jury.

All criminal trials follow similar procedures. A defendant or number of defendants will have been accused of a crime. The prosecution advocate opens the case by explaining the accusations and setting out the facts they will seek to prove during the trial.

Witnesses for the prosecution will be called. They take an oath, or affirm, to tell the truth and are then questioned and cross-examined. Next, witnesses for the defense may be called. If they are, they too will take the oath, or affirm, and be questioned and cross-examined.

The judge may stop things at any time to prevent irrelevant questioning or argument, to protect witnesses and to clarify issues. As a juror, if you need to clarify any point about the evidence, you may ask a question by giving a note to the usher who will pass it to the judge.

When all the evidence has been given to the court, the prosecution and defense advocates may make their closing speeches. They will talk directly to the jury as they argue their cases. The judge will explain the law and summarize the facts of the case. Then he or she will clarify the duties of the jury before they go to the jury room to consider their verdict.

I cannot agree more with your comment, as a person with a degree in Criminal Justice and a Nigerian, the position of management in the police force should be attainable to me and others that may have the requisite talent and qualification .
