It all depends on his target product. If his target product is palm oil then its ok. That's about the same size of seed in the you tube attached in page 9 of this thread by Mangan.

On the issue of feeding, I personally do not practice feeding to satisfaction. The current set of fishes I have, if I were to be feeding till satisfaction, Na Gbese u go enter, those fishes can eat ehn!

What I do is a follow a feeding table recommended by coppens, the simple reason I follow coppens feeding table is because it's in line with my personal targets ie to achieve average size of 1kg fish in 4 months from 10g juveniles.

I feed them the quantity coppens recommends per day,if they like let them still be acting hungry, what I have discovered is every week when I take a sample of their weight, it corresponds with the weight it should be on the feeding table so I know I'm on track.

I have discovered that feeding to satiation could lead to wastage of feed, catfish will eat more than their stomach can take, and they will gradually vomit it. For those using earthen may not notice this, but if you're using concrete and observant, you may see it.

Just my observation though, this has been what has been working for me, even for fries, I take weight samples and feed accordingly to feeding table, let's just say I prefer the scientific approach to farming.

the most important thing is to have an idea of what your fishes should eat and not to be too far off the mark. Imagine giving your fishes 10kg of feed per day when they ought to be eating 40kg, that difference is much and will lead to bad result or extend your harvest time. So the feeding table can act as a guideline, nothing is cast in stone and they are different ways to skin a cat, the Koko na for all of us to keep smiling to and from the bank

Pls kindly publish the feeding table you use. This will be beneficial to us as most of us seem to practise "old school" methods.

Before it can work, you need to get borehole expert to determine the formation of the land. You don't need submersible pump machine before it works. After drilling, the water will come out naturally from the borehole, you only need pipe to channel the water into the pond.


I follow the thread bumper to bumper. Just that I am very busy with other day to day activities.

This is better advised in swampy areas usually for earthened ponds.


Earthened pond is good and cheap to operate sha. My only problem there is security and natural disasters like flood!

Oga mozek welcome back to the world of fish farming its a pity you burnt your finger in poultry business. I once tried poultry at some point though in a small scale(broilers) mehn it was not easy oo , vaccines upon vaccines i couldn't cope anymore.. But every business has its own risk be it fish or poultry. People still make money in poultry and some fish farmers also make a loss, it all boils down to your technical know-how and sometimes "Good hands" in a business.. Its a bitter experience for you but its time to move on to your first love "fish farming"..

Let me quickly respond to your last statement. You can dig/construct an earthen pond on dry ground. What matters is regular water. I have seen it. Just ensure there regular flow of water in and out at same volume.

My i/o in my freezer. My vet doc advised against it saying the chicks had already had i/o in d hatchery before transportation. Meanwhile, I've given them Ganadexil and vitamin. They will be taking lasota in less than 30mins.

I am in benin too, maybe we can discuss about this facially but meanwhile the cost of raising a broiler from day old to seven weeks should not be more than 600naira and you can get 2.5kg above and 1.8 -2kg is sure after dressing . I also tink there is good market for it.I know more about broilers, i have been into it for sometime now....but i have not started the 7weeks thing , although i am planing on it...... You said u are starting with 1000 birds, is that not too much? i will advise u start it on a low key..
