Stop lying to the public. Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic and all the top 5 clinic in the US have Doctors as CEO. Johesu should have branches there. Show me one hospital in the US or UK with a Lab scientist or nurse as it's CEO.

Yesterday a Johesu member woke me up by sending a Video of residency in pharmacy from John-Hopkins. He further went on to claim Doctors must not always lead hospitals. When I was done with him he looked dumber than he started. The residency program is a 2 year program. 1st year is a rotational program in the hospital and 2nd year is writing a dissertation on an area of interest. When they are done they don't become consultants, rather leaders in the area they have majored. How does that equate to the rigorous 6years medical residency program.

On leadership, the top 5 hospitals in the world, including John Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland clinic, etc all have their CEOs as Doctors. There's no hospital in US that has a lab scientist or attendant as CEO.

Such a shame for Nigeria. But unfortunately, medical practice in this realm, may be doomed forever.

JOHESU should think about the ripple effect the strike would have coming to bite them back as in this example.

A doctor after studying medicine and surgery still came to study pharmacy. He started from 2nd year and his requirement to study pharmacy is your almighty mbbs same with someone with b.sc nursing or b.sc parasitology.

I saved a retired Matron from decompensated heart failure, battled to stabilized her and when she recovered the best she could tell me was how she was once a CNO and to talk to her son abroad who is a doctor. I gladly declined. If she needed her son's help she should have called for him to manage her.

Again, every MBBS holder can delve into surgery any day, any time. Yea, that's the power of MBBS. whoever wishes to perform any surgical procedure can do it so long as it is within his limit. The issue of litigation comes into play only when complications of the said procedure ensue.

Physicians in the ICU and ITU are the real MVPs, differentiating which heart sound is ALVF, from pulmonary embolism, to N arrhythmia, when a patient is seconds to dying is not easy. When I started off, I wanted to do CS, herniorrhaphies and appendectomies, but after acquiring those, I found those are mere routines with no mental tasks, and even old theatre nurses may do it better. Internal medicine is the core of medicine and any physician vast in that area is king. The private hospitals treating malaria and typhoid, have blocked many from seeing that there are specialist hospitals who's ICU are manned by emergency physicians and anaesthetics and these ICUs charge a minimum of 500k per night. I can call at least 5 such centres in Lagos alone.

Very shameful comment from her. Such persons cannot practice outside the shores of this country. Since we glory in treating malaria and typhoid, why won't she equate herself with Doctors. I can tell how many Nurses including matrons have rushed their relatives to me mostly in grave situation mostly owing to pride and wanting to equate themselves to Doctors. I have been called to complete a breech delivery with head trapped a least 3rice this year by a so called retired midwife. When I see such people I just shake my head. Someone who doesn't fully grasp the pathophysiology of neonatal jaundice and how to differentiate physiologic from pathologic jaundice is claiming equality with physicians because she gives arthemeter inj, quinine drip and cefriaxone injection. God save Nigeria. As a young medical student prepare for USMLE, PLAB or AMC and leave these drip giving nurses who passed thru school by force.

Afterthought: Nurses mix all sort of concoction to unsuspecting patients, but send their children to physicians go get expert opinion. This is wickedness. A matron rushed away from my hospital claiming she wants her own, yet at least 3rice in a week she calls to review patients, the last time she did, I simply Ignored her totally. She sent her in-law to be for a procedure she claimed she does, whereas she can gladly experiment with another life.

The Nigerian circle or the international circle? My wife is a changed person because she married me. I don't even see her as a nurse but she is more than a nurse. In fact she is no more just a nurse but a rare diamond that has passed through a refined chamber. There's no better deal for a nurse to marry a doctor. Very few nurses marry nurses though and their marriages are disastrous, as the ladies rarely can be humble to a fellow nurse. They need a semi proud doctor to tame them and show them the real path of life beyond needle, syringe, vital signs, bedbathing, monitoring IVF and bedmaking.

I got into school, with my mind, body and soul prepared to read pharmacy. I never for once wanted to study medicine... U knw why? Because the profession is limited.

And trust me, I would rather my child studies Pharmacy, Fine and Applied arts and other entrepreneurial liberating courses than study medicine where he'll wear himself out in school, come out and start struggling to get into a well paying hospital worth the stress...

As a pharmacist, I dont even envy those working in a hospital because the pay is not at par with the workload. I rather be a rep, work in a research institute or own my own pharmacy... And here is the bonus, with as little capital to cover for registration and premises nd a good connection with some reps, I can setup a pharmacy that easily... But you knw a hospital is not possible like dat. So my dear friend, pharmacy is a gold mine.

U agree medicine is tough, yet u also agree all health workers should be on the same scale. There are great doctors and not so great ones, but MBBS will remain the envied profession in the health sector, and u'll even crave for ur child to have the degree, and he be called quack and malaria and typhoid doctor . For example if he really is in the UK, he knows that Radiologist approve radiological investigations and radiographers are ordered to carry it out at the radiologists approval. If it's not approved the FY2 doctors which I get he is can walk up to the radiologist and impress on him why the test should be done. Radiographers in Nigeria say they are Autonomous. If not for the Police, they last year entered hospitals and harrased Doctors doing sonography.
