In the betterment of Nigerian students to return to schools, the federal government approved reopening of schools after months of knockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic. Following the order of the federal government, governors under their jurisdiction have promulgated date for the reopening of their state institutions.

Some of the institutions have came up with memo and official bulletin for full academic activities.

Osun State University, Osogbo, has released a bulletin for the resumption of academic activities to be 5th October 2020.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, exams with commence on 12th till 23rd October, 2020.

Delta State Polytechnics, Ogwash-uku, has released a memo for the resumption of second-semester academic session, to start on 2nd October, 2020.

Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa. notified all students of first phase of resumption of academic activities.

In the internal memorandum of the institute HND I and HND II to resume on 21st September, 2020.

University of Ibadan, inaffiliation with Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education, Noforija. Has released resumption date for academic activities.

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta has approved Monday, September 21 as the date for the reopening of academic activities.

Nigerian students should inculcate the mindset of reading ahead of their exams that is coming up as schools are reopening.

In an unbelievable twist, a landlord on Wednesday doused the room of one of his tenants with petrol and set it on fire, burning her to death over nonpayment of eleven thousand naira rent.

The incident took place at No 9, Ansa Ewa Street, Cobham Town in the Bayside area of the city when the landlord whose name was given as David Ntiero Okon poured fuel in the room of Mrs Mary Samuel and ignited fire that engulfed the one-room apartment and eventually killed her.

A tenant in the house, Obongette, a security man said that the lady who has lived in the house for over seven years owed the landlord eleven thousand naira following the downturn in her fish business caused by incessant attacks by militants in the Calabar Water Channel.

“The woman is a fish seller and on Wednesday morning she went to buy fish at Oron in Akwa Ibom State and when she came back that evening the landlord asked her to pay the balance of her annual rent but she said she did not have any money but should be allowed to sell her fish the next day so she could raise money to pay the rent”.

According to Obongette, the landlord became infuriated by the woman’s appeal and started accusing her of refusing to pay him the rent and when the woman went to bath the man poured fuel in the room and after bathing as she stepped into the room the man ignited fire which engulfed the place.

“As the woman shouted and tried to escape but the man locked the door and when people came to rescue her, he brought out a machete and chased them away threatening to kill anyone who dared to rescue the burning lady”.

He said after the woman died people in the area mobilised and took the corpse of the woman to the landlord’s apartment and laid it there till the next day.

“Police came yesterday (Thursday) afternoon and carried the body and also arrested the man because we ensured that he did not escape or do any other thing. The house was built by his late father and he chased away all his siblings from the house and took over the house”.

DSP Irene Ugbo, the Cross River Police spokesman said the man is in police custody while the corpse has been deposited in the mortuary. “Investigations are going on to unravel what really happened” she stated

A man went on a rampage and butchered his mother and two children with a cutlass.

The man identified as Mr Emeka Ezimmadu who lives in Okpunoeze Uruagu Nnewi is a Prophet of the Sabbath Church, and yesterday night, got a cutlass and started matcheting his mother and Four (4) children to death.

Following the alarm raised by neighbours and the immediate intervention of Okpunoeze Vigilante Group, Mr Emeka was further prevented from matcheting his wife and two others who were remaining in the compound.

A police sergeant has been arrested following the death of his girlfriend while they were lodged in a hotel.

Anthony Kachukwu, the police sergeant, was arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command after his girlfriend, Justina Omofuma, died in one of the rooms of the Exclusive Mansion Hotel in the Surulere area of the state.

According to reports, it was gathered that Anthony took Justina to the hotel, where they both passed the night, but the lady was said to have lost consciousness and fell to the ground while sitting on a chair.

In the process of falling, it was learnt that Justina hit her forehead on the ground and died due to the impact of the injuries she sustained.

A source revealed that the said Anthony was discussing with Justina when he stepped into the toilet but on his return, he saw Justina lying on the floor of the room.
