The first sexual experience of most Nigerian men is with older women who abused them when they were minors. Usually an extended family member or the "house girl" or one random "aunty" in the neighborhood.



The sad thing is that most men who were victims of such childhood sexual abuse grew up to see it as normal. They sort of "relish" the experience. Some grow up festishing older women (MILF) as a way of recreating that rather traumatic early sexual encounter.


In fact, most men carryover such trauma in their subsequent sexual relationship. Sexually abusing minor girls then becomes kind of normal (because they had their first sex at such a young age). It also goes as far as skewing their understanding of sexual assault as adults.


We have a lot of work to do in healing as an entire gender. Because a lot of us are carrying around trauma without even knowing it. Importantly, we need to start acknowledging that experience as sexual assault. It was not fun, you shouldn't fetishize it. It is violation.


And some of those who carried out such evil act? They need to be held accountable. They owe you recompense, apologies. And most importantly: protect the little boys around you. These abusers still roam around in sheep's clothing.
