Capnd143: Msauza . . You are really at it! No matter how any country economy might grow, the still need investors!, we came there to seek more investors, just as we went to poland, china, japan, india,uk etc! Any the fact that it is only SA companies that are only showing up is a fallacy, we have several chinese, japanese, indonesian,uk etc who have shown up recently, some who have privatised are statutory power coperations! There over 20 international power giants currently in nigeria who are to take over generation, transmission and distribution of power, due to the reform of the power sector. NUCLEAR POWER IS ALSO IN NIGERIAS TO-DO-LIST which would probably attract foreign and indigenous companies .thanks
Nigeria is not yet a stable democracy and western companies will never go all out. That one I bet you.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m): 12:49pm On Feb 17, 2013
souldust: @msauza, reverd more than which OBJ? I guess it is not the OBJ who is also God's ally. C'mon. You use south sudan to show mbeki's political influence but i have shown you more than one situation OBJ flexed his divine muscles. Just accept it. That OBJ is even more influencial than koffii anan.

As for chaka de zulu, we do not have any chaka culture in our nollywood. Why should we, when we have all kinds of culture in nigeria much more tha you have in SA. Name them. Is the most suphisticated and more developed ones or the primitive ones you are looking for? We have them in abondance.
Your reasoning capacity is too low. You don't convince me a little because you are just stating your opinion. State facts, South Sudan has Mbeki's name written all over it. Negotiating for peace is something else, Mbeki has done that millions a times, in DRC, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, etc, but negotiation for establishment of a new state is a cherry on top bra. Do not worry I know that there is great tension between South and North region of Nigeria and soon we'll deploy Mbeki to negotiate for the establishment of South Nigeria as an independent state. Do you require his handwork?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m): 12:33pm On Feb 17, 2013
Capnd143: no. It wont! There however several indigenous or local companies operating and also about to operate here, i was only using the foreign companies to illustrate a greater propability of a possible drastic decline in revenue generated by nigerian based South African companies.
This is really confusing because your minister of trade visited SA in November last year with a sole purpose of asking SA companies to invest in Nigeria as other developed nation do not have any interest of investing in Nigerian market. The reason is because of terrorists attacks that had been going on in Nigeria that scares away investors and the only country that seem to brave itself is SA. Majority of Nigerian companies are too small to meet the demand and the problem is many businessmen believe in sole trading and not in partnership or companies. It seems as if there is a lot of trust issue concerning business in Nigeria.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m): 7:39pm On Feb 16, 2013
Capnd143: yea right! Ur analysis is almost true; i.e the fact that there are many SA companies here, but have you ever wandered if there is truely going to be a hike in future? NOooo . . . The current administration has been making progress in inviting other foreign companies especially of chinese, japanese, indonesian and british origin to the country, which wil create a virtual competition between the SA Companies and the asian and european giants! For instance mtn is facing a strong hatred by nigerians from recent survey from Nigerian bereau of statistics, which projects a possible future decline in customers, also brtish communication company UK TELECOM, have stated plans to operate in the country with call and data charges of over 65% lower than others, projecting a future hike in their user base if established . . . More and more companies are currently targeting nigeria economy because of its huge ecomomic potential, mainly due to our balloning population. Thanks Mr.MSAUZA
The truth is this exercise will cripple the economy of Nigeria. Nigeria should start to learn to promote local companies.

gst101: @msauza.sometimes i think south africans are liars by nature. Otherwise, how can you explain to me why you continue to tell lies even though we have proven to you that we are not fools in here.

Talking about political power and influence, we are still far more influencial than you, fact!
You speak of thabo mbeki? I laugh in your zu...whatever. C'mon, we all know of an OBJ. Even God in heaven is familiar with that name. The only mbeki success in africa is just south sudan. Let me inform you that Abdusalam Abubakar (nigeria's last military head of state)was part of the south sudan issue. Sorry to burst you buble that it wasnt solely an mbeki effort.

OBJs political influences so vast. This can be seen when he, unilaterally, put back in office a deposed legit govt in Sao tome. Becos of him, liberia is now stable as well as seria leone. He mediated in the DRC issue and the sudan presidents did their peace dialoge in Abuja.
Come on, everybody knows that Mbeki is a think tank in diplomacy and revered more than Obasanjo in that discipline.

agaugust: Snydergp you idiot with half brain, size of war is not judged by how many countries were involved, it is how many soldiers engaged in battle that decides a big war. only about 10 countries fought world war II but over 10 million soldiers were involved and it becomes the biggest war in world history.

dont come here to teach nigerians the history of nigeria. you go and do your reseach on internet and stop telling lies about nigeria, spend your time and find correct google free information you lazy man.

No other African war engaged almost 500,000 soldiers and that is about Half a Million soldiers like the Nigerian B.iafran war of 1967-1970.

you are poor in research snydergp and your old age has weakened you brain. Cuba had the biggest army of only about 25,000 soldiers in your south african war, No soviet union soldiers in that war. so combine all the other few under-populated african countries that joined and you are far behind compared to nigerian civil war size. Lagos city alone is double the population of the whole Angola nation

snygergp needs brain surgery before he can do simple mathematics of numbers.
Its you who needs a brain surgery. Why can't you be specific, Nigeria fought the biggest civil war in Africa and that cannot translate into a military war between two countries. SA border war so far is the only war recognised to have taken place in the soil of Africa.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m):
agaugust: i said do you have half a million soldiers in the cuba vs south african bush war ? did soviet union send a million military advisers to join cuba ? nigerian biafra war had 500,000 soldiers in combat. you dont know mathematics in south africa ? add all the countries soldiers together and they are less than 100,000 that fought your war.

nigerian war is more than 5 times that number and we have that historical record of the biggest war in africa, and the whole war zone covered the entire west to east of nigeria and part of the central north down into the atlantic ocean waters in the south with half a million soldiers in combat.

history of Africa says Nigeria military fought the biggest war in all African history on record with half a million soldiers in Biafran war 1967-1970.

that is one of the evidence that nigeria is the true giant of africa, and that is a serious warning to south africa if they try to fight us, millions of nigerian soldiers will fight south african soldiers from many different positions and you wont know whether to face us from east, west, or center.

please stop wasting my time south africans, i need to enjoy my weekend. goodbye my dear friends, chat you again another day. enjoy your weekend too.
Your so called biafran war is not as famous as the South African border war which included military and civil war in one. That war affected millions of people in SA, Namibia and Angola. Nigeria on its own had never fought in a country to country military war other than fighting rebels, involved in civil war or supporting other countries in war. They live a lie of claiming false victories. Victory is when you challenge another country other than rebels and overpower it convincingly by overthrowing their government.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m):
agaugust:
nigerian military is NOT a cheap and careless photography and hollywood movie society like south african military
, you over expose your weapons details and specifications to the whole world on internet, that is a stupid military blunder of south africa, all your enemies can plan effective operations against you because all your weapons details are available free on internet. you dont even have anything to hide just to try confuse your enemy and make it hard for him to predict you. nigerian military is much wiser than your own. how many Russian or Israeli military details of customized weapons do you ever see posted carelessly on internet ?
Nigeria has not yet reached that level. Majority of their hardware are procured from other countries and their specifications are freely available on the internet as well from the country of their origin. Once Nigeria starts to develop and manufacture their own weapons on a full scale, their specifications and features will be available as DICON will be starting to market their products to other countries as well. Nigerian Military has not yet achieved the status of being fully recognised as modern military as they are still dependent on technology developed by others. Beside their assault riffles majority of their weapons have been procured. Most European countries which manufacture arms and America are doing the same as SA is doing.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m): 7:18am On Feb 16, 2013
souldust: a super power is that which has military, political, economic and cultural influence in a given region.

lets take it one after the other.
politics--------- nigeria exerts more political influence on africa more than SA

economy---------- nigeria still has that over other countries than SA

military--------- the gap between the two countries isnt too much when it comes to hardware, but nigeria has more experience than SA.

culture---------- this is the area nigeria beats SA hands down. our culture is all over the continent while SA is largely unknown. the fact that we colonise the continent culturally is attested to by the BBC's alex jokana when nigeria was celebrating her 50th independence. our culture goes even outside of AFRICA to the carribean. every where you go to, people want to speak like us. they know a word or two in one of nigeria's languages. they put on our attire.they point to us whenever they want to encourage their country men to value their ideginous culture.they try to speak our version of pigin english so that in africa, there is a talk of a nigerianization of the continent. in fact, there was a time the topic on BBC's africa have your say (if you know the programme) was "is the Nollywood hindering the growth of other Africa movie industries"? they asked this becos they know that people would like to watch us instead of trusting in their own industries.
My friend go and make your research properly. Studying does not kill anyone, I understand it does give headaches sometimes. SA is more politically influential in Africa than Nigeria. SA is a member of G20, BRICS and IBSA and currently canvassing to occupy permanent seat in the United Nation's security council to have the right to veto should the UN organisation be restructured for proper representation. The former SA president Thabo Mbeki's influence in Africa is unmatched of any Africa leaders and his hard work and dedication to serving Africa has paid of by giving birth to South Sudan. When South Africa sneezes the rest of the continent catches the cold.

As to economy, that subject matter I won't touch as the whole world knows who is the economic giant in Africa and the most industrialised country thereof. We have won the seat of chairperson of AU through our political influence so much that other African countries, including Nigeria started complaining that SA want to neo-colonise and rule Africa. The parliament of Africa is here and our brands are all over Africa.

Militarily, everybody knows who fought the 23 years longest war in Africa that went into the annals of history without numbers on his side, but still managed to contain the most respected Cuban military at that time. I fail to understand when you make the mention that SA military is inexperienced. The truth is that our military is way far older than Nigerian Military period.

Culturally- Many Nations have read and even wrote exams about the history and culture of SA. Some Nigerians especially in their Nollywood movies have stole and even adopted the Zulu culture of Shaka Zulu and made it as if is their own. With the presence of Mandela in the equation, it has even made the culture of SA to reach far places. Nigeria will never compete with South Africa in that region, the name South Africa is a brand on its own and its a destination where everybody want to reach.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m): 9:05am On Feb 15, 2013
souldust: @Thiza stop all these. Why dont you explain why you are growing at about 2percent or less while the likes of Nigeria has been growing at about 7percent. Explain why Nigeria is about to overtake you as the largest economy despite the fact that we have more serious problems. Pls dont mention oil becos that will not stand critical analysis of economics.
That will only happen when the current generation is dead and buried. It will take hundreds of years for that dream to be fully realised. Remember, SA companies in Naija account to over $50 billion of GDP and as such it will also benefit South Africa indirectly. There is a high possibility that this index can hike even further as SA companies start to show up in Nigerian market.

Achebe whose litrary works are held in more regard than wole soyinka, wasnt awarded the nobel price. But soyinka was awarded one.

The truth is, the west still play a role in awarding nobel prizes
I think maybe is due to fact that he managed to subside tension that middle east countries had against the US. Many Islamic countries were in a bitter conflict with America during the tenure of George Bush in office and after Obama succeeded him, everything started to change to better.

Wrong, the first electric car was invented long before Jelani Aliyu and his parents could be born in 1883 by Robert Anderson, a scotish scientist. To be specific, Jelani Aliyu is the first designer of electric car for the GM motors, which is the car manufacturers in America.

Dibiachukwu: Without foreign intervention. If south Africa can stalemate Nigeria in a war, then CHUKWU is not supreme. Nigerian army size is like 1000 times that of south Africa. And they don't have any weapon that we don't. The war would not last more than 3months. And as for technology. If Nigeria decides to concentrate on its military, within 2 years we would become a major world power. Like I said before, I don't envisage any war between Nigeria and any other African country; because we love them all. It is the western, arab, and chinese military that we have to be weary of. They live by war!!
People can really hallucinate here. Just imagine, the SANDF strength is 1:1000 as compared to the strength of Nigerian Military. Let me teach you the strength of SANDF is 78000 and that of Nigeria is 100 000 and so how did you arrive at that conclusion of the ratio 1:1000?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m): 12:15pm On Feb 12, 2013
This Aguagust did not really do proper research about SA. His knowledge about the history of South Africa is up to scratch. I know SA has a complicated history and it would not be easy for foreigners to understand its finer details. I know that Aguagust you are beaten, that's why your fellow countrymen cannot even take you side because they can see that your argument does not hold any water. Go and google the history of South Africa and more specifically about Homelands and self-governing states in SA. Google will tell you that SA during apartheid had Homelands and self-governing states which were under control of blacks in SA. The SA tswanas were under Bophutswana with a land mass as big as Ghana. It consisted of many villages, towns and cities, including university which was run by black professors. Today that university is known as North-West University. The Zulu homeland was known as Kwazulu which gave birth to University of Zululand. The Xhosas homelands Transkei and Ciskei gave birth to University of Trankei with black professors all over. University of the North (turfloop) consisted of predominantly black lecturers. Medunsa which is found in black township in Garankuwa also had many black professors. Today after almost 20years with ANC in power a lot has transformed because black lectures are everywhere. Black SA scientists are all over SA. Last but not least be informed that SA does not only belong to one particular race or tribe, it belong to all of us to live in. It doesn't matter who build or advances what, for as long as is a South African we remain happy, because we are the rainbow nation. An America in Africa.

agaugust: snydergp and msauza, if the two of you combine all your certificates of education and both your brains together, you cannot match a nigerian university graduate and you cannot work where i work, even USA visa you will not get. you envy me, but you cannot reach where i am in the USA. south africa is too low for me, sorry i did not come to work in your country, you have a lower status than the USA where i work and live. lol. grin grin grin grin

how many black south african university professors of science, experienced economists, high tech engineers, experienced jet fighter pilots with proven air-to air kills, submarine captains with experience etc, are existing today in south africa ? almost none, maybe a few, who are servants to the white man south african experts that still operate your country to maintain it for you so it does not collpase
.

you guys dont travel out of south african reagion, visit nigeria and see why your MTN telecom is sitting down there to make money from nigerians who pay their phone bills. your south african companies make more money in nigeria than in south africa. nigeria has developed beyond your imagination, there is a nuclear power facility in abuja, and will soon enrich uranium in a few years, all the nuclear scientists there are nigerians, no white-men. nigeria has two sattelites in space orbit and our engineers are locally building a third sattelite. you guys dont travel far out of south africa.

nigeria has its own telecoms company like GLOBACOM, oil companies like CONOIL drilling, we have gone so far beyond your imagination, you guys dont travel out of your region and see other countries advancement.

nigerian DICON produces almost all our army's rifles, RPG, APC, and soon howitzer artilley. NIgeria built NNS ANDONI warship. Nigerian air force built a drone UAV. we nigerians are all black and have achieved with our black brains. nigeria is the only fully black nation in the world that produces heavy military weapons without white-men engineering it for us. nigerian defence company DICON is not in debt of financial mess like DENEL of south africa .
most south african blacks only drink local beer and smoke cigarette. lazy people like msauza !

you host african nations cup and a hungry weak war shattered Mali beat up south africa silly like a baby. lol grin grin you spent your money to host tournament and nigeria carried away the african nations cup under your noses,
lazy guys, weak black men , you act like women and thats why a hungry war damaged Mali can beat you on your own homeland soil. big shame, and jacob zuma was there to see you fumble and wobble like ordinary housewives. lol

try and travel to visit other countries in africa, dont sit down in south africa and deceive yourself thinking that other black nations like nigeria are backward and undeveloped, you are too ignorant and local, your knowledge about nigeria is absolutely outdated grin grin grin

you guys are clowns, and msauza your brain is due for total replacement, brain surgery wont even work for you. lol your thinking faculty seems unrepairable.

Nigeria remains the giant of africa, swallow it, bitter truth. We will lead african continent, south africa will learn from nigeria how to be a giant we will teach you little by ilttle.
lol grin grin grin
Geeez!! My God I can believe stupidity of this magnitude coming from you. If this is what Nigerian universities produce, then ill have to be excused from being any of their material. No wonder Nigerian universities are ranked so low. Well, on the football arena I respect Nigeria and they had always been my favourite ever since I was young. During those years when they played on the world cup and SA couldn't due to sanctions which were imposed onto it, I used to rally behind them in the mighty GREEN and WHITE colours.

I accept, Nigerians supersede black South Africans in many respect. They might have big muscles and balls because they masturbate a lot, be intelligent and technologically inclined, but when it comes to politics, the feeble black South Africans excels more than any black/ bantu race in Africa. Politics is our area of speciality by birth, it is part of our DNA. Nigeria is developing, nobody disagrees, but how long did it take your leaders to implement changes. Ever since they grab total control of that country in 1960s and even today cannot even produce more than 10 000MW of electricity. Do not even have one powerful state-owned Airline that is competitive in Africa and cannot even construct better roads. The government that cannot eradicate villages and transform them into better places. Cannot even provide grants to the poor and the old age; Cannot even build houses or the roof above the heads of the poor. Cannot provide better sanitation. They should have long achieved it and I disagree not everything was developed by blacks in Nigeria, majority including nuclear were developed through an imported skills. Your power station which was built in river state by SA company which included white SA is a proof. Your leaders which can do everything by themselves run to South Africa to seek help from South African companies pleading with them to build infrastructure in Nigeria and invest thereof. Do you know how many SA companies are there in Nigeria doing business only because Nigerians cannot do that kind of business, because of jealousy among themselves.

stop lying khukhi, the whites are still operating south african technology backbone and economic backbone, the politics is what they gave you blacks with some other small positions as public figures for the world to photograph and believe there is no more racist apartheid politics in south africa
.

so, kneel down and bow down your coconut head to the white-man boer and then thank him for building south africa for you and for staying behind to maintain the development because it will collapse if the poorly educated south african black men take over its advanced technology and economy. grin grin grin grin

black people operate nigeria, the british did not stay after independence.

south africa minus white man is equal to zero
grin grin grin grin. see the mathematical formula below and respect those your superior white masters in the photo below,

south africa - white man = zero
Let me first start to congratulate Nigeria for their outstanding performance in the AFCON tournament which I was so much privileged to attend. Nigeria are the true champions and the real super eagles of Africa. We are proud of Nigeria in this continent in respect of soccer and was very much fortunate to have met various Nigerian artists (Osita Iheme, D-Banj and others) and that was a cherry on top indeed.

@ Aguagust-Your jealousy will give you health condition related to heart attack or hypertension. Black South Africans, even though they seem to be corrupt have taken over the country in 1994 and have achieved a lot more than what Nigeria has achieved. Your political leaders were left to take control of that which belong to your country in the early 1960's and hardly achieved anything ever since. It doesn't matter who built our country first or who paved our way to development, what matters the most is what we are doing now. Swallow your pride and admit that we have made our contribution in building this country. Before 1994, SA was not as vibrant and fancy looking as it is today. Our country was so disintegrated and developments was fragmented in such a way that only white area was developed and we changed this trend and develop the black areas formally known as townships.

I read you mentioned something about black SA merely having grip on political power and do not partake in economic activities. Your perception is not only ill-informed but seeks to undermine the legacy of our political heroes in the likes of Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo who sacrificed their lives in fighting for liberation (social, political, economic) of blacks in SA. Political power is above all and a tool we employed to transform the colour of the means of production and intensified struggle in land reform. We have introduced the BBBEEE ( Broad Based-Black Economic Empowerment) which promotes participation of blacks in economy and business, through it many BEE compliant companies were born many of which are doing business in Nigeria, building Malls, Power stations, running telecommunications network, running lottery both in Nigeria and SA, owning Protea five star hotels in Nigeria, etc. Currently in South Africa there are no companies which will be granted contracts if they do not satisfactorily meet the requirements of the BBBEE policy of handing their 26% shares to black ownership. Does it convince Aguagust?

Msauza, always remember to kneel down at the feet of the boer white man and say thank you to him for building south africa for you blacks to enjoy
. dont just boast here, give the glory to the white men who made south africa more modern than nigeria, you blacks built almost nothing in south africa's economy, technology, and infrastructure.

south africa minus boer white man is equal to zero, bitter truth, just swallow it msauza. lol grin grin grin
Aguagust, it seems as if the moth has eaten the cortex of your brain. Do you suggest that of all 20yrs in power blacks never achieved anything in SA. Historically, not all areas in SA were ruled by whites. During the epoch of a white rule in SA only agrarian part of the country which was formally known as Central was under a white rule and some areas which were known as homelands were under control of a black rule. The former Bophuthatswana homeland produced what we now call capital city of North West province which is Mafikeng. Mafikeng was build and developed by a black man. Bisho in the Eastern Cape is the product of a black man from the former transkei and is today the capital of Eastern cape. All the land which was under control of a black man is Bophathatswana, Transkei, Ciskei, QwaQwa, Lebowa, Kwazulu, with each having their own universities, schools, military, police, infact to summarise everything each one had own government. I don't want to write about achievements we made after 1994, simply because this space would be a lot smaller.

souldust: why dont you answer the ubuntu ubuntu question. I am more interested in that...it makes more sense than all the crap you are worried about. Scroll up, and you will see it.

Apart from brenda, chaka chaka and lucky dube and also mariam makeba, you havent really given us south african flavour in recent times. Whats happening?
"Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu" is a proverb meaning a man (person) cannot live on his own without socialising with others. The direct translation is a man is man because of others. The ubuntu means humanity. With regard to lucky dube and others, you must remember we are living in a dynamic world and as such youth of SA has come with the new kind of music, that is, SA house music which is based more on entertainment. The old SA music was more on liberation and black consciousness.

Are you helping us to build Eko atlantic? A city 10sqkm built on land reclaimed from the atlantic ocean. Where has that ever happened in africa?

Did you help us build our high rise buildings all over the country? Are you lending us a helping hand in building our light rails in lagos and abuja? Did you help us do the just concluded rehabilitation of our lagos-kano railway?
To cut everything shot, SA is a more developed state than Nigeria. You like it or not, you go to the moon or the sun it will remain.

Neuen: You are partly correct there. Nigeria have lower unemployment than South Africa as well as a lower crime rate.
There is only one country in Africa that has a reliable and virtually accurate stats system and that's SA. Most of African countries, including Nigeria do not have an accurate statistics and even the world bank has admitted to this. Nigeria does not even have reliable stats in respect of the size of their population, hence I wonder how did u arrive at such a flawed conclusion.

thank you Thiza my brother for publicly admitting that nigeria is the giant of africa indeed, you are very correct with that statement. so true nigeria is african giant with clay feet, but the big problem is that south africa has no feet at all. lol.

I am really starting to be fully convinced that this Aguagust is nothing but an imposter hallucinating about having a good job somewhere in America. Such an utter fallacy is really unbelievable, especially when it thrived from a self-proclaimed master of modern military technology whose knowledge of arms is not equal to that of an average South African. It is very disingenuous of him to bring issues of HIV/AIDS while he has it on good authority that Nigeria is not located anywhere inside a balloon. AIDS affect us all, whatever walks on two feet and could talk is a potential victim, hence our lives are all at stake. If this is how all Nigerians think, then it puzzles me tremendously as to what is it so lucrative they find and see in our beloved country to staff our territory.

Nowadays, it is just a curse to live Nigerian abroad. By just a mention of that word, people start to behave strangely, even ostracise and treat them like a laper. Such repulsion sometimes give Nigerians the false believe that they are more superior while others are suffering from inferiority complex, meanwhile, failing to figure it out that people label them as terrorists and conmen. I remember at some point when I visited my sister in UK, people everywhere, especially my sister's fellow tenants kept on asking me if I was a Nigerian and after I gave them the correct answer, they started to glance at me with a smile and refer to me as Madiba boy. No wonder many Nigerians do not like people to know about their nationalities because their nation is cursed. It is so saddening that many countries are not willing to accept Nigerian, but the one and the only AIDS infested country is willing to go where others could not reach. It was this weak AIDS riddled country that went on and invest in Nigeria, developing their infrastructure especially where your leaders have failed.

Symphony007: who ever said we did'nt have problems? We have monumental problems that need an all hands on deck approach by all nigerians to solve...every country has problems, south africa that you spoke of with all his wealth has the highest hiv rate worldwide, checkout the raw poverty that sits in "soweto", russia a member of that G8 is extremely corupt and has more oil than nigeria why are'nt they being asked how their money is spent? Some weeks ago the bbc carried out an experimen on the most traffic congested cities in the world, lagos toped moscow!!..yes, we have problems but we as a people, a nation has to solve them just like china did and today it is sending shock waves around the world, because once again this western nations don't have friends but interest, THEY CAN'T HELP US, WE MUST HELP OURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!
Your approach was very irrational and irrelevant. SA might be plagued with problems associated to HIV/AIDS which in my opinion are far from being described to the level of corruption that goes down in Nigeria. The truth of the matter is that such problems do not equate to corruption at all, beside SA is dealing with such problems effectively by ARV treatment programme. There is no excuse why Nigeria is still at the state it find itself in, with the amount of oil it has it supposed to have been much developed with a better infrastructure. Do you think that the outside world is impressed with the way Nigeria runs their financial affairs of enriching few individuals most of whom are politically connected.

souldust: you know that word becos you watch our movies. It is not the few mins you spend with a prostitute (you have premature ejaculation) that made you know that word.
My friend to be fair, I don't like watching Nigerian movies, there are many Nigerians that I sometimes mingle a lot with and they speak pidgin. From start I thought they couldn't speak English properly and they further told me that is how they speak English in Nigeria. That word they like to use a lot. At first I thought it meant a strong language and one of them explained to me the meaning of it.

souldust: this guy is crazy already. Imagine he says we've got no building materials. I mean this guy knows of a dangote for crying out loud
My friend who was in Nigeria when Modern Shopping Malls were constructed helped me to come with the piece of this information.

According to Roper there were many challenges with the development of the Grand Towers Abuja Mall. One of these was securing financing from local banks. “The banks are prepared to fund, but they don’t really understand property because it is a new development for them as well. So having to negotiate it with the banks initially was not easy. Now that the banks see the mall standing, they all want to do other developments with us, and they are also starting to understand it better.”

Roper said that the construction process also posed difficulties. He says that most Nigerian construction firms don’t have the experience to build large modern malls. For this reason, many of the skilled technical people were brought in from South Africa.

Many of the materials used in the mall had to be imported, which brought the added challenges of dealing with delays at ports and getting the products through customs. “If you build a modern shopping mall for someone like a Shoprite, they’ve got strict guidelines and requirements from a quality [perspective] and what their fit-out must look like. And you don’t have those things in [Nigeria], and a lot of the things got imported – the air conditioners, the roof, the tiles,” noted Roper.

Despite these difficulties, Novare sees potential for many more malls in Nigeria and the rest of the continent. According to a recent statement by the company, it is looking at five other mall developments in sub-Saharan Africa. Building on these should commence at the end of 2012.

South Africa goes shopping

These days South African businesses are everywhere in Nigeria, and trade between the two countries has jumped from $11 million to $11 billion in 11 years.

(Fortune Magazine) -- The Palms shopping center in Lagos is the largest mall in sub-Saharan Africa. It's managed by a South African company, Broll, and most of its stores - Game, Shoprite, NuMetro, Nandos - are South African brands. The largest mobile-phone company in Nigeria? It, too, is South African: MTN, which has captured nearly 50% of the market.

Indeed, in Nigeria these days South African businesses are everywhere. Entech, a South African engineering firm, is leading a $3 billion redevelopment of Lagos's Bar Beach and Victoria Island waterfront. Another South African firm, Group Five, is building a power station in the Niger River delta.

And the largest tourism project in the country, in Tinapa, is a joint venture between Standard Bank, Broll, and Southern Sun - all South African firms. (Standard Bank also just swallowed Nigeria's IBTC bank.)

South Africa's invasion of Nigeria, which began as a trickle after the end of apartheid in 1994, has turned into a flood over the past five years. Trade between the two nations has jumped from $11 million in 1994 to more than $11 billion in 2005, the last year for which reliable statistics are available. And the number of South African firms doing business in Nigeria has increased from just four in 1999 to hundreds today.

"They have chosen the sectors they intervened in very carefully," says Frank Aigbogun, publisher of Businessday, a leading financial daily in Lagos, which has Johnnic Communications, a South African media giant, as a partner. "They filled a void in the investment space in Nigeria. Remember that the Europeans and Americans, wearied by endless years of military rule, did not quite know how to respond to the evolving democratic environment."

The pioneer, says Olusola Obadimu, executive secretary of the Nigerian-South African Chamber of Commerce, was South African cable company DSTV/Multichoice, which captured 95% of the satellite-TV subscription market in the 1990s.

Some South African companies doing business in Nigeria:

MTN

"No Western company will take the kind of risks they took," Obadimu says. "But their teams came down, felt the pulse of the populace, and they succeeded." MTN followed in Multichoice's wake a few years later - "They rode on that kahuna," as Obadimu puts it - when the government auctioned off mobile-phone bandwidth.

Has captured nearly half of Nigeria's mobilephone market.

Broll

Operates the largest mall.

Entech

"Western telcos were not interested for obvious reasons of lack of infrastructure," he says. "But South African firms knew of the success of DSTV/Multichoice, and they invested. It reflects the long-term vision of the government in Pretoria, which saw Africa as one trading bloc. It's a small country but highly industrialized, and they need new markets."

South African leader Thabo Mbeki, whom former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo had befriended during the struggle against apartheid, won concessions from the Nigerian government to facilitate trade. Among them were agreements to protect South African firms against future nationalizations and to eradicate double taxation, meaning South African firms that pay taxes in Nigeria are exempt from paying taxes on profits repatriated to South Africa.

Not all South Africans have been welcomed with open arms, and it's not uncommon to hear them described by Nigerians as "neocolonialists." There are complaints about price gouging and other unfair practices.

MTN is a particular target. It took a boycott some years back to get it to charge customers by the second instead of rounding up to the next minute. And the Nigerian Senate recently rebuked MTN and other carriers for their high dropped-call rates.

"These people are exploiting us," says Tokunbo, a Nigerian MTN engineer who asked to be identified by his first name, referring to South African businesses. "Western companies won't engage in some things these South African firms do in cahoots with our fellow Nigerian officials." MTN did not respond to requests for comment.

None of that has lessened South Africa's investment offensive. South Africa's Eskom collects debts and runs the prepaid-card operations for the local energy monopoly, Power Holding Corp. of Nigeria, a notoriously inefficient company scheduled for outright sale.

Ariva, another South African company, operates the national lottery, and Telkom is bidding for Multilink, a wireless-network provider. Even the ballots in this year's contentious elections were printed in South Africa.

As Warren Trokis, a manager at Shoprite, a South African grocery chain in Lagos, explains the attraction, "Business is good here, and Nigeria is safer than South Africa. In South Africa armed robbers will take your money and kill you, but here in Nigeria, they will take your money and apologize."

sheyie2007: A south African website? seriously? always negative about the world outside theirs.. why should a waste a ounce of my bytes
Read it, that was a plea by Olusegun Aganga, the Nigerian minister of trade, to ask SA companies to invest more in Nigeria because Nigerian companies alone are to small to meet the demand. That was last year November when he paid a special visit to SA to beg and plea on his knees.

How many malls were built in Nigeria by SA investors, one of my friend (civil technician) whose company was contracted to construct malls in Nigeria told me Nigeria does not have building materials to build modern shopping malls. Materials had to be shipped from SA to Nigeria. We will colonise the economy of Nigeria and make it dependent to our business. We have our Shoprite, PEP store, Chicken Licken, Steers, Woolworth's, MTN, DSTv, Multichoice, Standard Bank, Lotto, Edgars, and we are hijacking your film industry as well. You are nothing without us.

souldust: we were under sever sanction during the time of Abacha. We stood strongly against the west and we survived.
That was nothing compared to what South Africa went through. Your sanction was partial and did not take long.
