now compare nigerian airforce ATR-42 photo of year 2000 technology below with south african air force Dakota aircraft of 1950 base technology. both aircraft are doing the same job of maritime warfare. there are many areas where nigerian military has better weapons than south african military and you guys always run away from that truth because you are biased. andrewza is sometimes honest, but snydergp and msauza always dishonest. i want comment from snydergp and msauza on these two aircraft we now compare. lol, dakota stinks

24 hawk trainer and light attack jets, produced 1976, age 37 years
9 dakota military transport/maritime warfare aircraft, produced 1950, age 63 years
4 super lynx anti-submarine warfare helicopters, produced 1978, age 35 years

so, apart from the 26 good grippen jet fighters even though it is a 16 year old generation base technology but recently manufactured just about 3 years ago, and the 11 rooivalk helicopter gunship most of which were manufactured between 2005 and 2011, all other combat or combat auxillary aircraft are of base technology of 26 to 63 years old.

souldust: @msauza, you are right about the airforce. But it is good at what it does at the moment.

About the navy, you may have more blue water ships, but we are by far, light years faster and more mobile than you.

And of course, you cannot compare your army to ours. We will bury you in your land. We have the capability to deploy our troops to your country.

Remove the airforce and navy, we can set boots in your land and in 24hrs, annex it to Abuja! We will colonize you and dictate your politics, economy and security from Abuja. We will also take your gold and line our streets with it.

agaugust: i am almost closing my comments on this forum. i have proved my point and i will stand by it, south african military will NOT defeat nigerian military in a war. simple as A,B,C. the south african military is over-rated, it is a strong force but grossly over-rated by many people who cannot do an intelligent and strategic research like i have done for the past two months or so. this thread topic was dead on page 12 or so, until i began to comment, now the thread extended to page 35. so far i have proved my points with clear evidence anyone can find on internet. nigerian military is not a weak, small, incompetent, poorly trained, poorly equipped and in-effective fighting force full of old weapons, NO, NO and NO.

rather, the nigerian military has the best available training in the world and has some of the best modern weapons in the world today. no country is perfect in weaponry, but everyone should go and bury the wrong idea that south african will defeat nigeria in a war, NO NEVER, best you can get is a stalemate of no winner no loser. both countries' military forces have their area of strengths and weaknesses. there is no perfect military force anywhere in the world.

agaugust: i have checked south african army official website link http://www.army.mil.za/equipment/weaponsystems/armour/index.htm no record of badger vehicle in service with your army, so how do you use weapons you dont have ? also as i said 300 nigerian army AFV with radar guided missiles plus long distance 'stand off' target tracking and locking electronic systems will wipe out 1,200 to 1,800 south african IFV armed with turret guns, engaging 4 to 6 missiles launched from each nigerian AFV. its very simple mathematics.

dont tell story about money or south african riches on this forum, the whole world knows nigeria has 40 billion barrels crude oil reserve best grade in the world called sweet crude bonny light, 100 billion barrels equivalent of oil as natural gas reserve, 30 billion barrels of oil equivalent of OSO condensate reserve, 50 billion barrels of oil sands/bitumen reserves, all never touched still reserved spend your time to google it, free information you can confirm on internet or you ask your friends in royal dutch shell petroleum company, do you know how much money that is worth at $100 US dollar per one single barrel of nigerian oil? dont talk money here, nigeria is a bag of money, go sit down my friend.

7 soldiers killed as south african manufactured, canadian army RG-31 MRAP armoured vehicle Fail to Stop an ordinary home made explosive in Afghanistan.

Six Canadian soldiers and an Afghan interpreter were killed Wednesday as their RG-31 armored vehicle was hit by a Road Side Improvised Explosive device (RSIED) as they were returning form a mission, about 20 km south west of Kandahar in Southern Afghanistan. According to the Edmontonsun.com, Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan have long regarded the four-wheeled armored truck as the ultimate protection against such attacks. Until the latest attack, troops riding in the vehicle had often survived gunfire and roadside blasts with minor or no injuries. However, experts are questioning its ability to withstand more substantial threats. Until this fatal incident RG-31s demonstrated a high level of survivability against typical threats encountered in Iraq and Afghanistan. The vehicle is operated by US and Canadian forces. Four Canadian soldiers credited the Nyala RG-31 with saving their lives in a suicide attack in September 06. The vehicle was damaged, but the soldiers inside it were unscathed. However, a month later, the Canadians suffered the first fatality when one of the vehicles was penetrated killing the gunner.

i have said before that all these fancy looking 'fine face' weapons manufactured in south africa have not been well tested in real war battlefield, so all the photos south africans are posting here are for un-tested and over-rated so called new weapons that will disappoint them in the day of battle and they will then blame the devil or satan for their defeat like in the bush war with cuba !

south africa manufactures beautiful looking weapons with only average performance in battle ! we cannot even trust your so called rooivak helicopter gunship, i will rather fly my russian made battle tested Mi-35 Hind helicopter gunship, south african weapons can disappoint in real war, they have never been used to win any battle in history, so let every buyer beware, they are over-rated.

south africa is not so great as other africans are made to believe, i have always said that, it is a generally over-rated country and it has an over-rated military force and over-rated weapons manufacturing industry which can collapse as i predicted using soviet union as example of how government owned defence industry eventually crash.

my research is beginning to expose how the south africans on this forum overrate their country beyond what it really is, not so great. i was never deceived because i live and work in the USA and i know what makes a country great. south africa is a good country but not so great, read this....

Though Denel has comparable quality products, at lower prices, it has a continuous net loss on income and transition to democracy since 1994 is worrisome to buyers if the state will continue funding this loss. This might be the reason for Denel's most worrisome challenge, being the sale of the Rooivalk attack helicopter, which was developed at a cost of R1billion and after the losing of a contract from Turkey for $2 billion and other countries only mentioning interest, but no contract coming forth. The sale of the Rooivalk, which could be Denel's most profitable project, also threatens to be its largest loss ever.

agaugust: for the ignorant and poorly informed south africans who say nigerian military have no rifles to match south african military rifles, i have listed the rifles and pistols nigerian army has in their armoury including american M-16 rifes.

i also want to prove wrong those who say nigeria does not manufacture great assault rifles, we manufacture the respected FN FAL assault rife in nigeria and i post the photos here. i listed here some fancy rifles nigerian army has but we dont want to use regularly becasue we are not if the business of fancy video and hollywood style movie making like south african miliatry, we are in the business of fighting wars and not acting or entertainment rambo style film making.

we have tested all those fancy rifles made in USA and europe, then we have chosen the one we want to use for continous firing and reliability in dusty and harsh battlefield environment with no risk of jamming after long hours of firing in comabt, and that choice is our own nigerian made AK-47 version called 0BJ-006 which has been modified with help from china to have better performance than the ordinary version. the better version is what you see in nigerian military photos, tested and tried and found very reliable, we chose AK-47 and we keep our fancy American M-16 rifles and Israeli TRAVOR rifles in the armoury, if we want them anytime we will use them.

Nigerian generals, admirals, and air marshals dont need assault rifle advice from south african army sergeants that post senseless comments on this forum. Fancy rifles are like Mercedes Benz cars needing too much maintenance, AK-47 is like Toyota cars most reliable in the world and respected.

Henry120: Unlike SA, pictures of hardware are very difficult to come by. The military in nigeria is not yet very open. It is still secretive. Remember, we in nigeria just started practising democracy. Photos of hardware are really difficult to come by.

Henry120: You are correct, equipments cost billions of dollars, I cannot place our defence procurement on the internet, however if you look hard you might see it here.

A lot of bomb equipment, scanners, jammers, tracker and satellite technology have either been bought or developed. Are the enough, no, can we do more yes, but have these equipments been purchased, including logistics vehicle, command and control and a situation room. Yes. There are more which I cannot paste here, because they are classified information.
