Just before midnight while most Nigerians slept, presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, took took to social networking site, Twitter, where he posted photos of Pres. Goodluck Jonathan reading a book, “Topics in West African History” by Abu Boahen. Abati posted the photos using the hashtag – #PresidentialReadingTime, saying “Pres. Jonathan was perusing the book…”. It created the appearance of a president squeezing time out of his busy schedule at night to read because – as they say – readers are leaders. So first, here are four of the eight photos shared by Abati.

I have to say that I'm nonpartisan and I'm not a fan of GEJ but the bashing he gets on a daily basis on NL and all other social media is VERY embarrassing to Nigeria and Nigerians in general. With all due respect to Prof. Oyebode, you haven't done yourself any good for bashing a fellow professor as you, I can assume that you are also an embarrassment to Phd holders with this utterances of yours. What you just pour out is least expected from a so called professor. In conclusion, been a professor doesn't make one a good administrator, so get a grip professor Oyebad *Oyebode! Note: I expect some paid cyber rants to criticize my humble opinion. |

By Daud Olatunji ABEOKUTA—Ogun State Deputy Governor, Prince Segun Adesegun yesterday, insisted that the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was aware of the ill treatment he is subjected to by Governor Ibikunle Amosun. Adesegun who spoke on the telephone, described the content of his letter that chronicled Amosun’s alleged maltreatment against him as a tip of the iceberg. Adesegun while reacting to a claim by National Publicity Secretary of the party, Lai Mohammed that the party was not aware of the content of his letter, said the party knew he was being maltreated but might not know the depth of his challenges. He said: “He (Lai Muhammed) is my friend, whatever he says, I will accept. If he says I didn’t send the letter to the national leadership of the party, I will accept. “The letter was meant for the governor and I copied all members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, copied the three Senators, seven members of the House of Representatives, our leader, Chief Olusegun Osoba and Alhaji Tajudeen Bello, former State Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC. I copied the state chairman, Alhaji Roqeeb Adeniji, Chief Olu Agemo and Alhaji Abimbola Awofeso and other leaders of the party. “Three of them were in my house when we accepted Amosun into our party. I was the deputy national Treasurer of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and also the Youth Leader under Chief Bisi Akande’s leadership. “I didn’t copy the national leadership of the party because there is nothing in the letter that the national leadership did not know about. They may not know the depth but they can’t claim ignorance of the way I am being treated by the governor. “If I knew that the letter would get to the press, I would have revealed more.” Adesegun had written a 10-paragraph letter dated October 24, 2014 to the governor where he accused among other things, of starving his office of funds and allocating old vehicles for his use. He claimed that the governor had failed to deliver on his promise that he would enjoy his tenure as the deputy governor during electioneering in 2011 under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/aamosun-vs-adesegun-apc-feigning-ignorance-plight-ogun-dep-gov/ |

Barely 12 years after he sang the song 'Nigeria jaga-jaga', top Nigeria crooner Eidris Abdulkarim in an interview with Vanguard Newspaper said Nigeria is no more 'Jaga Jaga' while he express delight and confidence in the present GEJ administration. It should be recalled that the song attracted a public outburst from the then president Olusegun Obasanjo. ***Read the interview*** *Since your last album it seems you haven’t been active. What’s with you? Basically because my kind of music talks about ills in the society, and it needs research which takes time, to know what is going on, evaluate the present government, then compare and contrast with the past governments. I must tell you that for the first time I’m very positive about this government. In three years, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been able to show Nigerians that there actually could be development. Refurbishing of airports Our airports are being refurbished. See our road from Lagos to Ore which has been there for fifteen years — he has done it. Now it’s three hours from Lagos to Benin. Also the Lagos-Ibadan road has also been there for years and Dr Jonathan is doing it. I am positive about this government and it is my responsibility to use music as a platform to promote what he has done. NITDA is implementing the Transformation Agenda by adding values to the lives of our children, making sure there are a resource centres everywhere in the community and it is a beautiful thing. I’m really happy with the experience. *So, Nigeria is no more “jaga-jaga?” No, no no! Twelve years ago Nigeria was jaga-jaga, but now Nigeria is no more jaga jaga, even though we know that the insecurity happening in Nigeria is propaganda against government, but Dr. Jonathan is doing his best and is trying. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/keshi-i-am-yet-to-decide-on-eagles-return/192758/ *Amodu appeals to NFF to reconsider his return By Olawale Ajimotokan Coach Stephen Keshi has revealed that he was yet to make up his mind whether to return as the Super Eagles coach. Keshi’s reinstatement was sanctioned by President Goodluck Jonathan as part of the measures by government to resolve the crisis which has disrupted the effective running of Nigerian football. The coach who led Nigeria to victory at the last Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 was on October 15 relieved of the Eagles job by the NFF board owing to the shaky performance of the national team in the qualifying race to Morocco 2015. But after a meeting with Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, in his office yesterday morning, Keshi told reporters he still need to take a long reflection on the presidential directive before deciding to take a plunge with the national team. “It is a very, very difficult decision. I am not sure I would say ‘no’ for now or ‘yes’ to the order. I still have to think about it because we all want peace. I want a settled mind before making the decision. I don’t have issues with anybody because life is too short. This is my country. I am always willing to offer my service. If I desperately wanted a contract, I would have opted for the offer made by Equatorial Guinea because the offer they made was bigger than what Nigeria offered. But this is my country and I want to serve it,” said Keshi. He has not succeeded in tying down an offer since he left the Eagles post. Instead, he has been speculated to be on the radar of Ethiopia and of late Ghana. Both countries have since denied making any overture to the reigning African coach of the year. Also yesterday, interim Head Coach of the senior national team, Coach Shaibu Amodu, pleaded passionately with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to allow Keshi return to his post to lead Eagles in the two remaining matches of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. In a letter dated 27th October, 2014 and addressed to NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, through the chairman of NFF Technical Committee, the 56 –year old tactician who was named as new head coach penultimate week, said he wanted Keshi reconsidered for the two matches as the time –frame was too short to tinker with the fabric of the squad or start to build a new one altogether. “Following wide consultations that I have carefully made within the past two weeks since the appointment, and for the sake of professionalism, I want to specially appeal to you to reconsider the matter and allow Stephen Keshi to finish the project that he has started – the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying race. “Sir, my opinion also is that the time – frame is too short to start tinkering with the fabric of the team or attempt to build a new team altogether. “As Technical Director of the NFF, I am ready and willing to help build a better relationship among Keshi (with whom I have enjoyed good working relationship in the past and who is still very close to me), the players and the NFF Technical Committee. “I am assuring you, Mr. President, that I will offer whatever assistance required by Keshi and his crew for the remaining two matches, and also be there to offer advice, suggestions and efforts towards building a stronger Super Eagles’ team after the qualifying race,” observed the former Orlando Pirates of South Africa gaffer. Nigeria plays Congo Brazzaville in Pointe Noire on November 15 before taking on South Africa in Uyo four days later, needing to not only win both matches but defeat Congo by a margin of two goals away, to stand any chance of qualifying for the 2015 finals. |

OCTOBER 28, 2014 BY NAN A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday adjourned till November 11 the trial of ex-Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who is standing trial for alleged money laundering. Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, is being tried for an amended 40 counts bordering on money laundering by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the suit, which was earlier fixed for the hearing of addresses of counsel, on Tuesday suffered another adjournment. No reason was, however, given for the adjournment. The court’s registrars only informed parties that the suit had been scheduled for a further date. NAN also reports that the EFCC had opened its case on March 10. It called a total of six witnesses including Investigating Police Officers, bank legal officer, relationship officer and a former aide to Fani-Kayode. All witnesses had given testimonies as to their relationship with the accused as well as the manner of investigations conducted on him. The EFCC closed its case on July 10, while counsel for the accused, Mr Wale Akoni (SAN), informed the court of his intention to file an application for a no- case submission on behalf of the accused. The judge had adjourned the case to take addresses from counsel. Fani-Kayode was first arraigned sometime in December 2008 before Justice Ramat Mohammed on 47 counts. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and Justice Mohammed granted him bail in the sum of N200m with two sureties in like sum. He was re-arraigned before Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako following the transfer of Mohammed from the Lagos Division. The accused was again re-arraigned before Justice Ajumogobia on Feb. 11, 2013 after the transfer of Murtala- Nyako. On March 6, he was re-arraigned before Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia following the amendment of the 47 counts to 40 counts with the EFCC dropping seven of the counts. Ajumogobia is the third judge to handle the case in the last five years. In the charge, the accused was alleged to have carried out transactions with funds exceeding N500, 000 without going through a financial institution. www.punchng.com/news/fani-kayode-gets-nov-11-date-for-money-laundering-trial/ |
