Let us face it, UK can never give 20% of the students permanent residence. UK is a small island, surrounded by water, there is a limit to the population it can contain. Then once you have your permanent residence, you are entitled to benefits. UK economy is in dire mess right now, and they cant afford for all of these students to become Permanent Residents en masse almost at the same time. It will be counter productive, and UK economy can't sustain it. Some would have worked tirelessly as care workers, but when they want to renew, thats when UK govt will shock them and request that they depart the UK. UK.is sly and they will always find reasons not to renew your so-called "papers". It has always been a scam from the start. |
Considering the salary alone is fulfilling one part of the equation. You need to consider your expenses which are largely dependent on your lifestyle. Any advice here is based on that individual's own lifestyle (expenses) which are largely probable to be different from yours. Roll your sleeve and do the maths yourself. |
One will die. |
Dbegining:How will Nigeria gets functional refineries? It's easier said than done. Where will the money to build it come from? Something we should have done many years ago. It's extremely expensive to do it now unless no money will be voted for infrastructure and some key sector of economy in the budget. |
slivertongue:A country also where the citizens respect laws. |
I will be interested to know how |
ahiboilandgas:Marble Arch!. I sight you. You have stated the obvious. |
Are these 3 corrupts individuals Nigeria can come up with in a country of more than 200million. Pretty Sad. I don't have a horse in the race but I can project Tinubu will win hands down, follow by Atiku and Obi coming a distant third. Maybe you guys have not really mixed and lived with the Northerners. They can NEVER trust an ibo man with power due to what happened in the Nzeogwu's coup when all their big politicians and spiritual father (Sardauna) were killed. They never forget. They still talk about in a painful way. The only way Ibo can become a Nigeria president is by reaching out to the other regions positively and ensuring they are building the bridge . However, what I have seen, judging from online fora does not portray that. Throwing insults at South Westerners and sometimes Northerners - key blocs which you require their votes is not a direction to go. This attitude has made the neutrals in those blocs determine to vote for any other candidates, except Obi. Sense of entitlement never wins vote. |
Ckonnet:You don't need to reply to me, it bring no dime into my pocket. I detest this idea where you people project western nations like crime free society. Do you know how many people die in the US through gun? Do you know how many mass shootings happen in the western world? Nigeria could be anything bad but she is not leading when it comes to crime. |
My last comment on this. People should stop converting Pounds sterling directly to Naira to prove a point. It does not work that way. You are not earning salary in Pounds sterling and spending in Naira. You will still spend in the same economy. People should know that there are more opportunities in the West, and these opportunities directly depend on your skillset. No one really cares about your multiple masters or Phd, they will put you to test using real life scenario. It is not an environment where you can hoodwink them. So, if we are saying there are opportunities, they are not for everyone. Ask yourself sincerely what kind of skillset you have. Also, some people are living like a pauper in the UK but they come to Nigeria to flaunt 2000GBP to impress people. They come back to the UK to suffer and slave away. Strictly consider your salary, what is left after tax, remember that inflation will still eat into what remains. What kind of apartment do you want to stay - a one room in a flat or a whole flat. Can you afford to eat in a good restaurant, go to cinema, go on sight seeing or your wage cant allow you to see beautiful things that UK has to offer but which cost money? Nairaland is a place where someone slaving away somewhere will project himself like a king and queen or someone will hype himself far beyond what he or she is truly is. I just smile when I see people calling figures as if it is majority that are earning that in the west. If you allow them to push you without you doing your own research, you have yourself to blame. |
Ckonnet:There was a pub shooting, killing a beautician in the UK on the 24th December. And there has been more crimes reported after that. Crime is everywhere. We can only continue to hope and pray for God's protection wherever we are. |
mikebabs101:Discuss what you know. There are individuals in Nigeria who are into IT earning higher than that per month. |
Before you make your decision to Japa or not, just know that the current UK government has increased the tax in order to fill an over 30 billion GBP deficit in their budget. So, if you are a professional, earning so high, you will be mostly affected. Here is the new UK Tax by the current UK government: What are the 2023/2024 income tax bands? The income tax bands for the 2023/2024 tax year are being kept the same as the previous tax year before and again are currently meant to be in place until 2026. After the £12570 threshold you will pay income tax at the following rates: Basic rate of 20% on earnings between £12,571 and £50,270 Higher Rate of 40% on earnings between £50,271 and £150,000 Additional Rate of 45% on earnings over £150,000 Scotland has different rates of tax and bands. For 2023/2024, these are: Starter Rate of 19% on income between £12,571 and £14,732 Basic Rate of 20% on income between £14,733 and £25,688 Intermediate Rate of 21% on income between £25,689 and £43,662 Higher Rate of 41% on income between £43,663 and £150,000 Top Rate of 46% on income over £150,000 The tax bands may change with the governments stance on tax being unpredictable in recent times. My take is that individual should make their own decisions and forget about people either writing depressing stories or those that are hyping themselves here. When push comes to shove, you will be solely responsible for your action. While you consider opportunities, consider inflation, taxes etc, then take your decision. You will be really stupid to allow a faceless person here to guide your lifetime decision. It is all on you. |
bennybuhari:When did the british politicians meet in Nigeria? Something is wrong with us as a people. |
What i need to understand is why the noise about UK student visa suddenly went down? |
Benwallt:Messi is not even meant to outscore Ronaldo. Messi is a supporting midfielder while Ronaldo is a striker |
God1000:CR12 |
Do not just mention Macron and Sunak. Have you heard them speak? They are quality. Do we have many of such youths in Nigeria - deep thinkers and analytical who have been forged for governance. We all know where most of our youths are seriously active. It is not just about youths in term of age, rather QUALITY! |
fykes:Nothing to figure out here. You are still not earning so well as a professional. This income will earn you very average quality of life in the UK. The society is expensive, wages are considered low due to inflation and this explains why almost all professionals are on strike right now in the UK. I didn't mean to hurt your pride but I just wonder why people come online to boast of something that are meant to be private. Living like a pauper in the UK, to come to Nigeria to impress is not how genuine professionals are meant to live. You ought to own both worlds. You are still not being paid well, mister. |
int0x80:If you follow your passion, you will become an authority in your trade and money will eventually follow. |
BigDawsNet:Everyone cannot be in tech. I will rather say follow your passion. |
ahnie:When you take matters that are meant to be private to public domain, those are the kind of insult you get. ChickenChallenge just ended terribly |
yomi961:This is not specific to any party but cuts across the spectrum. They all (all the political parties) do it, carting away Government properties after the end of their administration. A criminal offence that suppose to be investigated by our police force who are in coma. |
MrAdam:Did she direct that to anyone? She didn't marry you, why were you fighting as if you were Basketmouth himself? |
MrAdam:You wrote well but ended it badly. The person that wears the shoe knows where it pinches. I don't know why people are attempting to x-ray their relationship. Learn your lessons from what she says and move on. Calling her "senseless" is uncalled for. |
Toks2008:So, you are saying it is normal to live like a slave in the country that you are living, while you live like a King whenever you are in Nigeria to impress people you have arrived; I don't share that mentality. I want to live like a King where I am living, and also live like a King whenever I travel anywhere. It is a choice. How much do you think Chinese buffet costs? |
Toks2008:So, the govt wont charge for Tax, NI and pension. And with the expensive nature of UK, 200 GBP cant last you for a month. Well, I guess we look at different standard of living as individuals are different. I dont want to live on 200GBP in a month. Just a dash to Nandos with a family of 4 will cost minimum of 50GBP. When you want to compare to UK to Nigeria, there are so many factors to be considered. It has to be like for like. The bill, the rent in UK can make someone goes crazy, whereas you pay almost negligible bills in Nigeria. It is not always greener at the other side of the divide. |
Toks2008:I will dispute with your statement. You can only compare likes to likes. You cannot say it is easier to make 500GBP to 50k. That's a blanket statement riddled with errors |
Offpointng:That is New York. Come to ATL or Texas, it's way cheaper. |
Mayflowa:Which ones are: Microwave Bill Air Conditioner Bill ![]() Replace those with: Council Tax, Television Licence |
Off thread topic. Please can someone explain why the noise for UK student visa suddenly went down in Nigeria? |
Cristiano Ronaldo's sister!! ![]() Nothing to type than to laugh ![]() |
