And talking about the nuclear weapon, there are lot of countries in that alliance that have nuclear capabilities in addition to the US. Any attempt for Putin to use one nuclear weapon will trigger lot of nuclear weapons raining on Russia from different directions. No one has monopoly of violence.

Russia could make the prices insanely expensive or just simply cut supply to Europe, causing a massive economic problem for all of Europe. Russia wouldn't be the only one to suffer big economic problems.

If China invades Taiwan this night, The US will NEVER intervene militarily. That's a no no. China is so close to Taiwan, that America will need to have a weapon big enough to deter china from thinking of an invasion. That obviously is either a nuke or chemical weapons. If the Americans don't have such in Taiwan already, it means they are not eager for a military confrontation Incase China invades, and The Taiwanese know..

But America can still punish China severely, that's economically, diplomatically and politically, through massive sanctions with her allies. That might effect Chinas rapid economic growth, thereby causing unpredictable reactions at home. The realization that such sanctions and gang up Will hurt, and the fact that the Taiwanese will put up a bloody resistance is the only reason the Chinese have not invaded that tiny swat of land. Not the fear of wars. Nobody fights a direct war with a nuclear power like China or the US or Russia!

It's incredibly dangerous for everyone..

There is the Europe side (it does not want a conflict with Russia and the only arsenal it has its the NATO vehicleso it is obvious the eu will pump money to NATO to protect it's border...it has never bordered Putin)
The second side is the former Soviet states of which has come under pressure(Belarus and etal from Europe and Chinese inward).with this show of power by Putin and Russia using Ukraine as a scale goat.all those troublemakers in Belarus and et Al have literally vanished.this gives Putin firm grip on the states without under attention.

Putins only big issue with her neighbors is their desperation to join NATO and the European union for obvious reasons. He has a good reason to block this and I think every smart president running a big power like Russia will do the same..
