@barry o6, I'm neither an accountant nor into anything finance, but if you don't feel like an accountant any longer, I don't see any reason why you still have to continue in that path. Weigh you new dreams cautiously, research into it well before u delve into it, and if you are satisfied, fire on all cylinders. Thats ma 2 cents |
@Hesperus Situations differ from person to person. I have seen people here in UK doin odd jobs and livin far,far better than they did back home in naijaIf you had written this statement like 3 years , I would have agreed. I have seen individuals making it with odd jobs in UK as well, but even now with the recession setting in, every one knows where the shoe pinces. people are losing jobs at alarming rate, there is pressure on the "odd" jobs itself and thereby forcing down the salary. No money, no dignity!. Suffering and smiling Besides, you are mixing 2 things up. This thread is referring to people who are professionals in their chosen careers doing Odd jobs, people who have better potentials to make it in Nigeria but because of what people will say when they get to Nigeria, they are stuck to living in UK. don't forget that some people are even illiterates but are professionals in their field. Some people just need 500 pounds to kickstart their business in naija, but they will get here and be thinking of billions.Billions they wont see, Naija they wont go, and thus getting worse off. @Damiso Some people are proffessionals with a standard of living lower than someone who is doing menial jobs hereI refuse to agree with this. The mistake we normally make is generally tagging all graduates as professionals. Hell no!. Professionals refer to authority in your chosen career. Some people graduate from Uni or Poly without any knowledge whatsoever about their discipline. I refuse to refer to such as professionals, and maybe they are the type you are referring to here. Sorry, they aint professionals, they are mediocres. Some people were ok in naija, but just frustrated with the mess around them (i.e NEPA, water, roads, etc) and just decided to relocate for comfort.Where lies the comfort in UK ?. The silent racism, the tiny house, the steady light, gas, water that come at very exorbitant price, the killing taxes, their rude kids that insult and assault at every point in time etc. I stand to be corrected tho. PS : I'm not slagging off UK but saying my mind in relations to Nigerian professionals (illiterate and literate) neck-deep in Odd jobs in UK but with better potentials to make it in Nigeria |
@wumiabo, You have started what I regard as my "BEST THREAD" ever on Nairaland. I totally agree with everything you raised in your thread. Let me make refernce to some specific statement : If living abroad will not favour you and you know you had a good job at home or potential of then don't waste your life because of what people will say.A lot of people have told me here in the UK that the main reason why they do not want to go back home is what people will say when they get back home. Even, some people say they can't stay more than a month in Nigeria because they do not want people to have the notion that they are deported. I consider this ridiculous. It's meant to be my life and not another person. I could remember being in Nigeria one time, and I spent about 3 months, a lot of the people around me were gossiping about me that I had been deported, but who cares?. Until we are able to stand for what we believe in, i don't see any progress in sight A lot of people have lost their destiny, live goals and personality just because they want to relocate abroadThis is really the truth!. A loT of people drops out from Uni or Poly because they want to come abroad, with the believe that when they get there, they will come and "hustle" and use the proceed to fund their school. When they eventually get here, reality dawn on them. They can't move forward, and they wont want to go back to Nigeria, knowing fully well that they will have to start their Uni from the scratch , and moreso, it will amount to a huge shame among their friends. So many brilliant chaps are really wasting away due to this fact. Besides, some people are very comfortable back home, they relocate here only to see that all the hype about abroad IS a mirage. I think we must all learn that sometimes our decisions could be wrong, but we MUST not find it too hard to RETRACE our steps no matter how painful it could be. People do odd jobs that will definitely degrade oneA trained lawyer in Naija doing care work abroad, to me is a degradation. Argue it from today till tommorrow, I wont shift my stance on this. There's a difference between a professional and layman. Imagine Gordon brown's Children , or Tony Blair's or even Obama's doing all these "odd" jobs. You wont find any of the elite children there. Call it "Nigeria" mentality, i dont care. What is the essence of a job that you are doing that negates all the values in you. Something that wont bring fulfilment but rather allow you to live from hands to mouth. Something you cant tell pple in Naija that this is what you are doing. or who prays to spend fortune on his child's education that at the end of the day , he will use such certificate to be a rubbish collector ?? Lastly, any one is free to choose his/her own destiny but I feel we must choose rather wisely. I will rather prefer to be a fulfilled professional in Nigeria than being a dish-washer, dog-walker, train-cleaner and any other menial jobs you could think of abroad. A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE! |
@ westpool, Thanks for your msg. However, I buy direct from TM shops in UK on a special retail discount (i.e to the bearest minimum, and TM can not even go lower if you are buying millions of shirt) from the headquarter due to the volume I deal in. I very much doubt if anyone could buy original TM from UK, and after factoring Transport to Naija and sometimes , money for the "bailing" out of your products from Naija customs, you will still sell at N5600 and still make a profit. Moreso, I don't seem to understand what you meant by "full guarantee" from TM shop because I know TM does not give anything in term of paper to indicate "guarantee" on their products. The only thing is the TM Discount Card which you will be given if you are buying a very big volume and you must have been buying from them more than 5 times before you could be given. You could enlighten me the more if you are talking of other stuff. I didn't mean to insult your post, but I think I doubt the authenticity of such product. I stand to be corrected tho and I beg you not to feel offended if you feel any part of my post sounds insulting. It's never meant to. We are here to learn and exchange views |

@cuppycake I totally agree with your submission. Thanks |
@webdezzi, May I ask that you try as much as possible to make out time for us , "your students", out of your busy schedules. I sense it seems the enthusiasm is waning. |
@quadrillo, I strongly suggest that you still continue with your thread separately, so that at the end of the day, it will be like nairalanders are having 2 different "classrooms" that complement each other. If I dont get a particular explanation right in one thread, I can go the other thread and get it sorted out. I'm happy about your attitude to help without being paid. May God bless you and webdezzi |
@lucabrasi i wouldnt advice clearance stores but auctions where things are relatively cheaper if buying in bulk, china is another good place as well because all the pound shop s in uk actually buy from china and re sell here same as the little woods, argos e.t.cI agree auctions are the best, and you can still provide us with some of the locations of the auction sales. However, I still guess that some of the popular stores (e.g debenhams) do not sell their products in the auction or what do u think? @naijacutee Most shops in UK have clearance seasons when they clear off their old stock to make room for new stock. I'm not sure this is what you mean?Thats what i was referring to. However, most of the popular shops eg debenhams, NEXT etc have locations outside the city dedicated for their clearance sales while few others sell within their city shops. So, if you have the locations of the clearance shops where some of these big shops sell their products, you can furnish us with it. |
I have TM Lewin Shirt , as well as Hawes & Curtis for sale at a reasonable wholesale price as well. They are from UK, and I sell the with their packs. I have more than 60 varieties of colours from these 2 stores, and the mode of selling is , you see the products, pick those that appeal to you and pay by CASH (No Cheque pls). I sell to Individuals as well as those that want to resell. If You are interested , just send a mail to hansumng@yahoo.co.uk, and I will get back to you. Thanks |
Could we please list the location of various known Clearance Shops / Market (where a good deal could be gotten) in the UK?. I hope this will be of immense benefits to tourist visiting the UK as well as those coming in on business trips. Let me kick start it by saying Liverpool Street |
Hmnnn, I only hope that my governor, COSMETIC Adebayo Alao-Akala, will be humble enough to learn from this great man, Babatunde Fashola. Oyo State people are waiting to experience just ONE dividend of democracy |
Pls, I need a flash tutorial, be it in text form or video form. I will appreciate it if it could be volunteered. Thanks |
@webdezzi For you to make out time to add values to the life of others, without any form of compensation, you deserve more than a pat at the back. All I can say is "May God Bless You". Thanks we all appreciate your kind gesture |
@urfriend, I might not be able to give you the name of the agent as this could affect his business with HITV, but I must tell you that it's for real. If you could provide your number, I will give you a ring and we will discuss more, maybe you could even be the messiah that I have been waiting for. Thanks for your concern though. |
HITV : My Torturous Experience Please All, I don't know if i am the only one having this problem with HITV. They scarmble my smart card even as I still have 2 weeks of credit left on my card. To make matter worse, no apology from their end. Two, When I pay to subscribe, I have to go and give my card to one of their agent (since Its difficult to get through to hitv customer service, and even if u do, the smart card will take days to get activated)who will in turn collect 1000 naira in order to use his "connection" with hitv staffs to get my card activated. Each month, i have to live with this nightmare. I even asked if i could pay for a whole year, and the agent told me point blank that it would be a total waste of money as my smart card could still be scrambled as it pleases HITV. Please, i need your advice b4 HITV turns me nut. |
@All, This issue is not funny. Akala is a disaster for Oyo State. I pray God intervenes soon . |
@tobs, Please educate me about the data cards. Im hearing it for the first time. Is it different from what im using now?. Is it going to save me more power ?. Do i need to discard the present connection and pay for another one?. Pls reply |

Well, i just got a multilink phone (fairly used) for 30,000 naira (this includes 2000 naira first recharge credit, anyway dont blame me, what can I do since multilink refuses to sell new box). This is my second day running, but i can say that the service is a CRAP. Even, when NEPA goes off, the multilink phone can only be ON for about 1 hour (if fully charged) b4 it runs out of power. That means b4 u can use their SNAIL-Like pay as u surf internet, ur box must be permanently connected to power. Sad! |
opeoluwa you know i must apraise your analythical skills in observetion, the durella vids is not like but that truely they woke up one saturday or wednesday morning, paid some cash to play in the studio or what have you and thus the vids, it is called branding or in lay mans english putting a face to the entity. Now to the point, do you pocess the access to these setelite channels cos if you do, you'ld have seen the new durella vid on mtv base exclusive, i think the crew are throuhg playing in the studios forreal |
I read it in newspaper that the complete stuff is 9,999 naira and installation is 4000 naira. That approximately, with installation should come to 14,000 naira. @EMMA, 14,000 naira WITHOUT installation looks incorrect |
I love the car , just discouraged that it has a manual window. Still thinking sha , ![]() |

@Crossroads. I am so happy that you r being honest with yourself. Most people living in UK know that it's a depressing environment , especially when you were not born here. There's a big difference between happiness and Money. No matter how you are paid here, you will still have that "emptiness" there because mama charly knows how to take it back. In Nigeria, there's hope, happiness of being among your people and opportunity to be fulfilled. A lot of people could disagree with these, but this is my personal opinion. The greatest thing I feel one can get here is the certificate, and once you have it, it is left to you to be able to claim your return on investment, which I know can easily be realised in Nigeria. I will suggest that you don't trade your future for their HSMP , limited leave to remain, indefinite etc. Those papers do not amount to happiness, fufilment and wealth. It's a white man style of deceiving the blacks. If you are reading the dailies and watching news well on tv, you will realise that heat has been turned on the foreign migrants, especially the blacks and the asians, and it can not get better(This is not a curse but the fact). All said and done, pray to God to guide you , but be real and honest with yourself while making your decision. Ta! |
I'm absolutely gutted by this. I strictly consider OBJ's comments to be an insult on all who Adedibu has tactically killed, physically destroyed and terribly maimed . I have much respect for OBJ but I guess he got this wrong. Comment like that will only embolden this man that is playing god to continue to do what he knows best - VANDALISATION !. ![]() |
@babaakura, I feel for u strongly here. It's not really your fault. I heap all the blame on APTECH. It beats me how APTECH could be operating in the country without registering with the Federal Ministry Of Education. I think you need to make APTECH aware of this so as to make them take proper steps in getting registered. Who knows maybe if they are, you can be allowed to serve. Even doing your Msc abroad does not indicate that you wont do your NYSC programme. Remember that even if you are not qualified for the NYSC scheme, you still need to be issued with the NYSC Exemptional certificate, which many firms will ask from you. The thing is , I strongly advise you to go to APTECH and make them aware of your predicament, then maybe solution could be proferred. NYSC scheme, as useless as it is now, could be very important in the future. Hope your read today's paper about people questioning the new speaker, dimeji bankole, about if he truly served or not. It could have been a legal basis to get him removed if he did not. Peace! |
I just rang a particular GTB branch to intimate them of this fraudulent development Let's all be our brother's keeper |
@LAKESIDE4LOVE, Show me in my post where exactly I said Man-U Outplayed Arsenal. Despite the fact that I support Man-U, I view matches objectively. Draw is a fair result for this match. They both cancelled themselves out. Simple! |
@lakeside4love When you are reviewing match like this , you need to forget about possession. Everyone knows that the pattern of play of arsenal will definitely tilt ball posseossion towards them. Man Utd does not have that pattern. Each team has a particular pattern associated with it. So, in this game, arsenal enjoying more ball possession in the stat does not indicate that they outplayed man-u. What it means is that Arsenal stuck to their pattern of play well ![]() PS: If I may ask, which team can we say was honestly lucky in that game ?? ![]() |
@ ARSENAL FAN, You need not be told that when you DRAW with a FELLOW TITLE CONTENDER in your HOME amounts to a LOSS. Arsenal played excellent football but they are not there yet. They need intelligence and match winner players, which they do not really have in abundance at the moment. You STRUGGLED in your own TURF to come behind TWICE. Welcome to THEATRE OF DREAM come next year, your SLAUGHTER SLAB! C'mon UNITED!!!! ![]() |
