You wouldn't need to buy another engine if yours is well maintained.


And maintenance, is such a easy thing to follow through with if one is dutiful about it.


- Use the right Engine oil and change as at when due

- Don't let your brake pads get to see the last inch before replacing them

- Ensure all fluids are changed after service lives. Brake fluid, transmission fluid, Coolant, Power steering fluid, axle oils etc.

- Don't ever drive your car with any MIL light on the dash. No it is not normal. Check engine, abs, srs, vsf, AFs, caution, etc.

- Your engine won't last forever, there are specific millages you will need to Change timing chains, water pumps, rollers, tensioners, etc And yes they dont need to break before you do.

- Get at least a generic obd2 diagnostic tool. Start from one.

- Get a professional to handle your repairs. If you need to tell him what to do, then he is not one.

How long have you owned this car, what repairs did you do before you started noticing this. You already met a gear specialist, and he said it is the brainbox, you don't argue with specialist you know, but not when you are paying for the repairs and no warranties if he is wrong.

If this happens when the car is all warmed up and done some distance, then you might probably have a blocked catalyst like someone hinted.

I just recently changed the engine which the mechanic got me a very good one. I decided to gas the AC, I bought two cans of gas. The mechanic put the oil then proceeded to filling the first can of gas then later the second. All of a sudden the AC started bringing dirty substances with dirty colour from the hose in which the gas Was passing through. It was returning back serious dirt. The compressor was making a funny noise and the AC light in the car was just coming on and off. The mechanic said the compressor is bad and the dirt that came out has entered the Condenser and dryer that I have to change both the Conderser, Dryer and Compressor. He even suggested I also change the Evaporator that the dirt came out from the Compressor and had compromise the whole system. Please is he right cos I don't have much cash on me I just change my car engine. Please what can be done I need advice.

You will change everything in the ac system. Including hoses. Your ac don catch virus.

I use a BMW E30 (M40 engine). Changed my rings, metals and valves recently. My mechanic is telling me to drive slowly (not above 60-70km/h) for about a month, change oil before I can drive "normally". Reason for this according to him is for the rings to settle in the cylinder so it doesn't file it out (whatsoever that means...not even sure i've typed it correctly).
My issue is, do I need to wait for a whole month for that process? Cos my office is far and I was an hour late today. Driving at less than 60km/h was quite boring today. Used about 2hrs to cover a distance I normally cover with less than an hour. I have driven about 80km already and will do the same going back (i.e 160km/day). If his theory is true, how many days will I need to do in order to get the pistons/rings "set"?
Can I at least get to 80km/hr?
Pls experienced people in the house should help me out.
