Is it just me, or is there something particular about this fuel subsidy scandal, especially when the obscene figures involved are considered, that shoots one's blood pressure up? ![]() |
kulutempa: IT Bomb thanks for your question. I really have to say that your question has made it even clearer that the Judge was compromised. An inference is defined as a rule of logic applied to evidence in a trial. It is the same as saying that there is no smoke without fire. Basically it means a fact which is proved by presenting other facts, which then leads to only one reasonable conclusion. For example if A is in charge of a bank account, and makes a payment into B's bank account and the same payment is then made to C's bank account there is an inference that the payment must have originated from A's bank account and he cannot therefore deny that he was the source of the payment to C because he did not pay him directly. Where the Judge put his foot into his mouth is that establishing a prima facie case against a Defendant is more often than not all about drawing inferences on the available evidence which lead to the conclusion that the Defendant has a case to answer. It is after such inferences are drawn and a prima facie case established that the case then goes to trial and the issue of proving the case beyond reasonable doubt arises. As far as I am aware, there is no need to prove a case beyond reasonable doubt at the prima facie stage. The judge should go back to Law School.Nice expose. But you lost me the last ( bolded part). whose duty is to establish a prima facie case, the judge or the prosecution? |

And this case, very, very tragically indeed, confirms my long held suspicion that the ''Nigerian judiciary being the last hope of the common man'' mantra was as nothing more than flatulent rhetoric designed to keep the more gullible of us in a false sense hope about our country's democracy. True, there have been one or two celebrated cases where corrupt practices appeared to have punitively dealt with. but I don't think there are more than one or two. Furthermore, there is the growing suspicion that those cases only end up that way because there are political, and not legal, interests involved. I fully concur with such sentiments. Lets face it: the Nigerian judiciary, like almost all other sectors of our country is the very embodiment of corruption. pity ![]() |

Nigerians and voilence. make she thank her stars say no be obodo she dey. |
WTF ? The sect has just placed a frigging death sentence on a sitting Nigerian president!! while one certainly cannot rule out empty propaganda, I do believe we would be making a serious mistake to take their latest threat likely. we may (like me) have our issues with GEJ and the way he has ruled the country, but i don't think this is an appropriate time to play politics with such an issue. |
amarula: Just heard from some friends that IBB is dead. Can anyone confirm this?couldn't your 'friends' confirm it themselves? ![]() |
^same here (i have to confess ). A good mouthwash (preferably non alcoholic) would also come in handy. |
if by religious we mean church going, then yes, they are. you only need to take a look at attendance at various churches to confirm. IF I could even use myself as example, I do recall my dad hardly went to church with the rest of us(mum + siblings), except perhaps on special occasions: Christmas, Easter, etc |
ekt_bear: I don't get your analogy. Isn't eating first, then brushing like playing in mud first, then bathing?@ red, yeah, i guess so. Isn't it the same as 'eating breakfast before brushing is like playing in mud before having a bath?' |
I thought the question was about the fees being charged for the PUME exams, and not the legality or otherwise of the exams itself. |
all those who eat first, especially sugary or starchy foods (usually bread, tea, fried eggs, etc), before brushing are just wasting their toothpaste. its like having a bath before playing in the mud. Like most people have said, the proper thing is to brush before going to bed so that the following morning one can simply rinse with water before breakfast and the brush afterward. Note that this applies to those who usually have early breakfast, at least before 9am. |
abubello: Are u 2 suggesting that General Buhari is the answer?a general buhari (not necessarily the general Buhari) is what this country badly need. a fiery, quasi-military, Jerry-Rawlings style approach to literally beat us into shape. Democracy my a$$ ![]() |
Enoquin:. . .which is why it keeps recurring with increasingly brazen, mind-boggling figures. so we patiently await the next 'discovery'. |

@OP i actually thought you were a hausa guy |

why would he want to falsify his age in the first place? even if he still has his eyes on the presidency, is there any law the bars those above 70 years from contesting? |
Timi Ikosomi:"No match found." Check the number carefully again. |
gulfer: My cousin died due to the fake (substandard) artesunate that his system reacted to, which set off the Stevens Johnson's syndrome. Most doctors in Nigeria are unaware of this and initial treatment given to my cousin at the Gbagada general hospital was treatment for burns without proper diagnosis. Steven Johnson's diagnosis came shortly before he died from a young doctor at LASUTH; and he said if it had been quickly diagnosed at the Gbagada hospital, he might have survived.my deepest condolences on the death of your cousin. the point i was trying to make was that SJS may not have necessarily resulted from the substandard drug. If i may ask, how exactly was artesunate found be fake? |

Any person doing that just wants to send a non verbal message across: ''I'm fking bored of your company'' |
what revolting news. I'm actually cringing in disgust as i type this. the psychological scar on the unfortunate students as well as their parents can only be imagined. pity ![]() |
xstudios: Living in Nigeria self treatment is almost a norm and I had a case of Steven Johnson Syndrome while on a project in the East just late last year. Thing is I never imagined the drugs were the cause only believing the environmental situation was unbearable. All my mucus layer were all gone by the time I made it to the hospital. I DARE say the cases according to the doctor is most usual affair as he was able to recognize the syndrom eAsily. The EAST has a case to answer, the radio station here have programs to educate and encourage people to seek medical attention.Stevens johnson's syndrome isn't necessarily caused by fake/substandard medicines, it occurs when the mucous membranes react to the medicine--even the genuine one. |
