Too bad not too many of you catch the joke in this. Not all jokes, by the way, are meant to be laughed at. The joke is this: A site that dedicates itself in promoting Akwa Ibom State Interests is for whatever reason devoting its web space to promoting something that is far from what I would call promotion - a goat fight. You could also look at it this way - the fight in itself is also a joke. For one, the person who took their time to photograph pretty much every single scene should perhaps be given an award ![]() In the end sha, if you still don't get it, you can always visit other posts in this section ![]() |
http://www.akwaibominterest.com/odd%20_news.htm I guess when they say "organization that advocates for, and protects the interest of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria." on their "About us" page (http://www.akwaibominterest.com/about.htm), they didn't mean humans LOL |
Vichel, JayZ no look like hausa man so? ![]() If I didn't look close enough, I would have mistaken him for the one-time Sultan of Sokoto ![]() |
I bet that whereas this hasn't made CNN, starving kids with swollen bellies in Darfur have. What a pity ![]() http://www.kwarastate.gov.ng/jayz.htm |
Afam, YIM me when you get a chance ![]() |
ol' boy, make you try www.24hourhtmlcafe.com Each new topic is treated in hrly segments. Easy to follow. I visit w3schools every now and then but I have found that it is more of a reference for those who know what they are doing. Good luck! |
A quick 10-minute (all I could afford ) review revealed the following to me:Lack of captivating branding (as in logo) Too much content thrown at me on home page If you would like pple to log in, perhaps you should consider moving the login section higher up on the page Site designed by "multi-servicesng.com" - when i clicked on it, it took me back to tprtp.org. When I tried to open it explicitly in another window, I got "page not found". Is this how you intend to advertise your company? Again, this is just a quick 10-minute pass. My company could do a full-scale one for you (it would, like all things of quality in life, cost you ) for you if you want.Best Regards |
nosa101, I believe that's why it was done for free. Sometimes (what the hell, all the time ), you get what you pay for ![]() |
Google Code Search: http://google.com/codesearch Pretty nifty Leave it to google to come up with stuff to beat the already cool stuff they have ![]() |
If you use Photoshop, always remember to use the "save for the web" option for your graphics file. That way, your graphics files are always optimized for the web. This will help out in terms of page download times ![]() I hope this helps. |
kheme, and what of if I don't want to show u nko? ![]() |
Uhmmm, Yes you can Let us get one thing straight though - there is a difference b/w a web designer (css/html/javascript, etc) and a web developer (css/html, javascript/xml/php/jsp, etc) ![]() If you are building web applications and not merely websites, then you are a bona fide web developer (you combine your knowledge of the back end with the front end). But if all you do for a living is build basically what amounts to informational sites (no database interactions involved - "click here" to go "there", with a few "wow" effects thanks to FLASH, JAVAscript and perhaps AJAX), then you are a web designer. A web developer is sort of, to me, a semi-software engineer, in that the person acts as the "middle man" between the actual back end guys and the front end. They know for example, enough JAVA to access the business logic, exposed via JAVA tags (ala JSP, again, for example, since this is what I do), as well as enough of the front end to display the returned data in an elegant and efficient manner. Left for me though, I would rather have the software engr and web developer roles separate. Though it is good to be a jack of all trades, if I were an employer, I would rather have experts in the 2 fields. That way, with less work, they have the time to specialize in their respective fields. In a place like the states, where they want you to put in more hours doing more work for the same pay, I would rather work smart than hard, personally, for what pretty much works out to be the same pay. So though I can say I know enough of both worlds, I rather stay on the "easy (not so easy anymore thanks to AJAX, AFLAX, etc - it seems once you know one thing, three more things pop up ). Having said that, there is nothing wrong in being both.I hope this helps. |
Well, I come from the "old school" so all I would know is hand-coding it onto your blog. If there is a better way, I am willing to learn ![]() |
Then ur post wasn't "usable". It does beg the question: y bother posting a site review only to take the site down afterwards. Abi, u rnt aware of the research that shows that users don't like the "Under construction" message? Anyways, I will admit that I scan posts and so didn't catch what you said. I saw your first post and went to your site right away, b4, reading what was below. Then again, if I were you, I would go for "evolution" and not "revolution" with respect to your website development - work on sections at a time, instead of shutting the entire site down. Now, since I c u r good with analogies, I have one last one for you ![]() Bayern opens its new stadium, its a hit. Pple flock to it in droves. Others book it for concerts, etc. The word spreads about how "cool" it is. Even CNN does a piece about it. All of a sudden, someone decides that there aren't enough toilet facilities and management agrees to add 100 more. Rather than cordon off the section to be worked on though, management, in its infinite wisdom, decides to shut down the entire stadium. Now, the abv wdnt make sense to me ![]() |
gwatala, So this begs the question: Suppose Bayern Munich (I use this team based on your domain extension ) said they would be opening their new stadium, in time for the world cup, on a certain date. Then suppose again that they were to play FC Barcelona for an opening match. If you went to that stadium on that date and rather than a stadium full of pple, you see a sign that says "Achtung! (the only german I know ) Under construction", how wd you feel?I think it is rather rude of you to ask us to take time out of our busy schedule to do something for you *for free* and then have nothing to show for it. Am just saying |
Weeeell, I think that is right to an extent - there are those pple, at least in the states, who start a biz for the explicit purpose of cashing out and who may not care in any way wat happens to the biz afterwards. Example: Mark Cuban, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Cuban, started a company, cashed out his stocks, made his billions and used that money to buy the dallas mavericks (a basketball team). I wouldn't call him a scammer. The examples could go on and on, but thatz not the point here ![]() Ayn Rand may not always be right, though influential ![]() |
enough said (attached) LOL

Yep, I am back by popular demand, so here goes nothing ![]() Practice makes perfect, But nobody's perfect, so why practice? , If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for? , Since light travels faster than sound, people appear bright until you hear them speak. , How come "abbreviated" is such a long word? , Behind every successful man, there is a woman And behind every unsuccessful man, there are two. , "Your future depends on your dreams" So go to sleep , A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station, what more can I say, , |
In the meantime, the $$ will keep rolling in, the smart ones will cash out, make their millions/billions, invest it in something else and go retire on some island somewhere ![]() |
Uhmmm, It should depend on a feasibility study that you should have conducted ![]() Chances are that, in my opinion (if it counts for anything more than "my2cents" ), given the naijan landscape, fish farming would be more profitable. Note that I have said "Nigerian landscape". In other words, if your focus is on the Nigerian landscape, make it fish-farming. If you are looking at the international market, it *could* be pigs, who knows?I hope this helps |
Uhmmm, Maybe because, *generally speaking*, the owners, rather than invest in ergonomical PCs, scour the earth in search of cheap deals, which may mean buying them 10th hand LOL I remember my very first experience with a cybercafe - The keys on the keyboard were so hard to press (maybe from being "gummed" into place by the former owners' eating habits ) that it was literally like my fingers were the hammer and the keys were nails. I also remember another cafe I went to where one of the letters (i think it was "e" would never print on the screen, no matter what you did. So what did I do to salvage the situation? I would go to a website, copy the letter "e" and paste it into place LOLIn the end, I have decided that it is worth paying okada N100 to go to a place where I am totally in control and comfortable than walk down the street to the nearest one, even though it maybe N50 cheaper. It seems, most of our businesses, *generally speaking*, have not mastered the very basic concept of customer service. Again, in both case, I said *generally speaking*, so make person no come disturb me dis early mo mo o!. I know there is that one person on here who is going to develop High blood pressure while telling me that "things have changed since you were here last (even though, in naija time, it hasn't really been that long )" and that "for every cafe, there are 100 ones better" ![]() |
The statement about "trust" was actually a sarcastic one ![]() Either way, thanks for the quick response. Now that I know whatz up, I can sleep better tonight ![]() But b4 I go (I know, bear with me ), within the dropdown, why not disable states that don't have any data? So, in your DB query, you select where, say, hotel field isn't blank?Just wondering |
so netzymes, I just went to your ip4hotels website. I assume you developed the site or at least responsible for maintaining the site. If not, send this message to those who did: I want to visit home this december. I did a general search (I chose no possible factors that could have limited the number of returned results) for hotels in Akwa Ibom state, but nothing got returned. Whatz up with that? ![]() Perhaps a little of your "zymes" should be applied to the site to speed up the process I am actually very happy a site such as yours exists, but if I can't get the information I need, y shd I return/ever trust another site you have something to do with? ![]() Thanks, |
windywendy, Yep, it sure is my opinion and I bet if u took a poll (which I am not volunteering to take ), that of some others as well. We as a human race these days are just totally dumbed down by being politically correct that we can no longer call a spade what it truly is - a spade ![]() |
Windywendy, Just in case u didnt get my memo , here are excerpts of what I said:First and foremost, sorry about your situation. Sorry about your situationI realize his situation and wdnt wish it on myself. Having said that, in a country, where pple, *generally speaking*, hv made a mockery of the marriage institution, there is nothing wrong with what I have just said. Is the dude to die due to blood pressure (as if bills and work-related stress rnt enough) over a woman, who I am pretty sure has made up her mind already? Again, I am only saying what many pple here wanna say, but cant find the heart to. It is what it is. If he tries to offer marriage counselling (this is my way to appease u ) and she refuses, then the hell with it. Let him leave her. |
Oracle y? Cos it references the church? Wd it have been funny if I referenced a mosque or buddhist temple? ![]() Just wondering. |
Someone posted this article on the NL home page: http://www.washtimes.com/commentary/20031108-111533-9600r.htm I will say up front, that I only read the first 3 paragraphs. I was too angry to continue. So if the author has taken care of what I am about to say below, I will gladly retract. I ask the poster: how does this question of Why "Africans" starve affect Nigeria (where at best, only large corporations actually pay tax as thanks to oil revenue, taxation isn't as transparent as in say, western nations), or even south africa. Perhaps the author of that article should have been more specific? Don't fall into that trap o, especially if you are in Nigeria. To oyibo (and unfortunately a growing number of naijans in the US), Africa is one big country where what happens in timbuktu is a reflection of what happens in Abuja. Nothing good is to come out of it (maybe except slaves). Ok, I am waiting for your response ![]() |
this question reminds me of a situation that used to happen atimes in the dining hall during my secondary school days ![]() A little history: we used to hv a thing called "wildlife", where if within a certain time, enough students didnt show up to eat, the dining hall prefect would say "I declare wildlife" thereby letting the few students present in the dining hall take all the food they can lay their hands on. Of course, the ones outside wd notice the commotiion and rush in for their share as well. Here is where I answer the question of this post If it were a day we ate eba and soup, some students would take the basin of eba, while others would rush for the pot of soup. Me and my friends used to hv "strategy meetings" where we discussed which was best to take. In the end, it was decided that its best to take the pot of soup. Y? If u took the soup, at least you could drink it. If u took the eba, u hv to find someone with a pot of soup who is also willing to share the soup with you.My point? Ideas (eba) are important. However, without the soup (capital), your ideas are at best, stuck in your head. So if your lot in life at the time is such that you have a lot of eba, u r to convince someone with soup that your eba is not only the right texture but will be enough for both of you to share and be "belle full" ![]() In the states, the biz is called venture capitalism. Thatz how the silicon valley companies of the dot com era got off the ground. They approach those who had the money, pitched their ideas and hoped to get a sponsor. Of course, once u got the financing, you split a certain percentage with the venture capitalist. I don't know how it would work in Naija sha. Okay, I am off my soapbox now ![]() |
