The presidency has debunked reports in The Guardian and This Day Newspapers that the United Nations Organisation (UNO) would on July 10 carved a new country out of Nigeria and Cameroun.

Debunking the news, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, said the news is fake and fabricated.


He disclosed this on his twitter account @toluogunlesi on Saturday.

His tweets read:
“Been waiting to see @GuardianNigeria
take down this fake story about a new country being formed by UN, to which Nigeria will be ceding LGAs. The ‘Ali Treki’ the story alleges made a “demand” in 2020 actually died in 2015. Entire story fabricated. Shame on the Guardian.

So many red flags about the story. You’re claiming the UN is carving a new country out of Cameroon & Nigeria, but there’s not a single reference or mention on any of the UN’s official channels. Nothing either from the two concerned Governments, for what should be such a big deal!
