I don't mind exploring.

mobileboy: We might be tempted to blame distributors and middlemen for increase in price of cement but from my own point I disagree (my personal opinion)
The quantity supplied and quantity demanded are no longer in tandem hence middlemen tends to sell for highest bidder Very valid! Prices went to 3100 at my end because an Indian company doing some massive construction nearby is ready to buy at any price. ______ Within the month of November alone, I sold over 12 trucks while my cement supplier could hardly get 1 truck to sell. |

EgunMogaji2: I don’t hire from this platform as a matter of educated personal preference and policy but I do participate in giving positive feedbacks, as well as negative ones.
Whats new here that we haven’t talked about already that the price hike is from the distributors? What’s happening is not shocking as its part of the overall Nigerian experience. We just went through this with hand sanitizers and face masks. There is a fine line between processing the experience to make it manageable and reliving the moment by talking through the problem - who to blame, who’s at fault and who bear the brunt. The psychological equivalent of this is scratching a mosquito bite. If we don’t stop scratching and find a way (system) to prevent further bites, it is going to continue to itch and we may eventually become infected. So in essence, talking through the problem isn’t bad neither is knowing who’s right or what went wrong but what isn’t useful is if we keep reliving the trauma without developing systems to protect ourselves. Consumer protection is zero in Nigeria. Most businessmen understands this dynamics, hence the hike in prices of commodities in Nigeria. |

Cement is still 2450 direct from factory. The inflation was from distributors.
How do I know?
In my project site, cement for all civil works is still 2450 per bag but the cement sold to block makers is now 3150 per bag.
Same Site, Same Product, Different Pricing. |

omanzo02: I saw different designs and colours of aluminium longspan, that creates a SIMPLE but outstanding rooftops view, I notice the ceiling are mostly insulated gyproc/plasterboard. I was hoping insulated aluminium longspan should be available in Nigeria by now, it's more suitable for our weather, we have them on one of our warehouse, they are heat and cold proof ( cool in the summer and warm in the winter) Whatever you want is here in Nigeria and reasonably priced. I was going to use same for NextHome20 (my new office block). I also intend to do exposed joist ceiling cutting off the need for the conventional POP Ceiling. |

diordaves: We don't overbuild.
Down to the early 90s we built properly. Bang from the 2000s we underbuild now.
Low foundations
Foundations without german floor (DPC)
Iron and rubbish Asian doors everywhere
PVC ceilings (Dear Lord) everywhere
Inadequate columns and beams, some without lintel
Low mix ratio resulting in poor quality blocks everywhere.
Fake roofing sheets everywhere
You previously talked about your home gate with a certain requirement of ground beam. Is that overbuilding? Some said yes on this forum.
Do you more time? I can still go on and on if you do.
We don't overbuild. On the contrary, we underbuild for the most part, poor quality homes. Of course, using 20+ bags of cement for gate installation is an overkill but by my design there are certain part of my build that must be quality upfront (the public area). |

davodyguy: The act of or tendency to cheat, can be found in anyone, irrespective of race or colour.
I have been cheated by a Cab driver in UAE (Dubai) who comes from Pakistan to hustle in Dubai. He took us from our Hotel (Akas Inn) from Sharaf DG/Al Bashir and cheated with trip counting, making us pay more.
A bus driver who's a female, cheated us also in Auckland New Zealand, cause we had no idea of their currency. In come countries, they still use coins. Hence you may not really understand.
We're talking about Nigerians being cheats because we live here.
It's same way Donald Trump's crying that he has been cheated, because he believes there are crooks in America. After all, Trump himself cheated the American system in 2017 by paying less tax.
Criminals everywhere. My grandpa who died 76 years ago told my dad “Mosquito is not an Egba word. There is mosquito in Buckingham Palace, hence the word mosquito.” |

You see you took care and hit the right artisan. As far as materials I think we overbuild in Nigeria.
One of us here, I forgot his name wanted to do a roof with just solar panels. I told him it wouldn’t work and gave him other options instead of just putting the solar panels on wood rafters without aluminum.
It ended in disaster that’s what I’m talking about.

michlins: you don't understand subject of discussion. Slats will be pipe. Framing the gate or any other one should be angle bars. Use angle bars to frame the gate especially those areas that goes to the wall and floor because they are most exposed to rusting. You can use pipes anywhere else Issokay bro! I’ve always avoided using objects with sharp edge and projections in residential projects for safety (especially for kids) and to prevent rust/corrosion from water ponding on the surfaces. Now I’ve learnt new thing. Thanks for sharing once again.
