Enyinne: I will like to thank everyone that mediated on this door issue with Michlin. We hv finally settled it amicably, i was able to take 4 doors out of it as my engineer said that the maximum we can take cos of the size . So Michlin agreed to refund 60k to me while i keep the door till he finds a way to retrieve it . It was a peaceful settlement by both parties . I will do the needful. Michlin I apologize for the use of words but it was caused by the ill treatment i was receiving. Lets treat each other with more kindness, it helps . Thanks so much . I will do the needful on my post We suppose pop champagne. You both deserve award. |

Egun you should no better, I just get some done last week on top of my penthouse, it’s cost me 520 per sqm because of the hight and size, only 100 sqm. That why it’s cost that much. No mater what equipment they have, it’s can never be better the new laser tool technology they’re using here. My opinion it’s shouldn’t be more then 500 to 5050 per sqm, you can get better price if the area is bigger. Baba let boys chop na |

but i think the average cost is around 500 to 800 depends on location and negotiation power Charging 2,000 more than those doing it the conventional way That’s smart! |

In terms of quality, I’d go with PVC. |

It’s an opportunity for you to create your own empire in manufacturing process. I understand the process is very easy and cheap in terms of plasma cutting CNC programming for Complicated designs. Nigeria is market for new ideas. I’m going to PVC windows pretty soon. The aluminum window market is too saturated. |

michlins: it will take more than materials to keep turkey doors off our market. From the tools, to the skills and branding. We still have a long way to go but this is a step in the right direction We are getting there bro. I know quite a number of guys who pay premium for locally built doors (steel or wooden). I mean good money. I know a client here whose bedroom doors (local) cost 230k each as at 2012. I agree we need the skills and materials but I think the tools makes the big difference. |

Inception: Funny enough, the manufacturing process is very simple. More like how steel panels are manufactured in a car assembly plant (closed die forging)
The downside is that initial set up and tooling cost is prohibitively high. and high demand must be assured to be profitable.
At a time i was seriously thinking of designing and building a CNC plasma cutter (with a cutting table of 2.5mx 8m ) to offer metal design cutting services but Naija wahala no gree me We have several people doing that business now which is cool but I’d love to see far more creative sturvs. |

diordaves: Advice is just all over the place.
#. You advised him to speak first with the site engineer. Not a good idea. He did this with megacontrol project I think. We all know what happened. Fraud!
#. Some have advised that he fabricates exactly the size of the opening. He did this with a client here. He almost got into trouble. The window didn't fit without clearance. The client though reasonable, said as a professional he should have known better to accommodate clearance for installation.
#. Now he has delivered with clearance for installation. Trouble.
#. You advised him to first travel from the East to Lagos just to take measurements. This is just not practicable in this modern era. You said you have imported kitchen from Wickes in the UK. Did they travel first to Nigeria just to take measurements before delivering?
How this things are done is to deliver EXACTLY to the letter the measurements given by the client. 3ft must be 3ft if this is the measurement given. If it doesn't fit, it's the client's responsibility. He was contracted to deliver 3ft. He wasn't contracted to install or worry how it would be installed.
He should talk to the client nicely (peace rapping) with a view to giving a mutually negotiated rebate for any inconveniences caused.
On the flip side, if contracted to install as well, deliver EXACTLY the measurements given and break walls or find creative ways to install. If walls are to be knocked down, consult the client first BEFORE commencing.
Now if from consultation with the client it was agreed that clearance for installation should be accommodated, then the quote should be for the reduced size with demonstrable difference in the price. I speak as a professional here and not as a client. I does from the place of experience not as an emotional observer. The same issue still happened to someone here few days ago. Read my position on the window project. I gave the same advice. It’s a free world though so he can choose what advice to follow. |

michlins: at first I got angry and that's how I lashed out at her but then she's still my customer who gave me her hard earned money. That's what some family members won't do for you.
And all these are opening me up to improved ways people do things. I might say am still running business the way I learnt from my boss.
Will this type of thing happen to me again where I assume the customer knows what he or she wants, absolutely not I have a secret to share with you on how to handle these type of issue moving forward. This simple tip will save you a lot of headache if you apply it in your business. One thing you should have noticed by now is that the client is a complete novice on your profession. She’s just using ideas Mama @eyinne, don’t come for me o. As a matter of fact, she had no idea about the door sizes until she was told. Know your client. Know who has the final authority. Deal directly with the decision makers. It’s easier for @spyder880 to understand and deal with you than @eyinne because he’s in the field and he has all the need-to-know information which @eyinne can never dream of. Often times, we tend to believe the man who made the payment is the decision maker. That’s partly true. There’s always that silent person whose opinion can never be discarded. In some cases, it’s the madam of he house. Did you realize it was the site engineer who actually complained about the door before madam brought it here? Even though she didn’t say it, I know he’s the decision maker here. His position determines whether the doors will be used or not? Since he’s not involved in the award of the job, he’d only stay silent until issues crop up. I’m not saying the engineer on this particular project is the one behind this issue o. Moving forward, always tell your clients to allow you speak directly with the engineer on site. If it’s a project without an engineer, request for pictures that depict exactly what the client wanted. Ask specific questions to clarify likely issues. Lastly, take the pain to visit the site to take as-built measurement of any job given to you. Well done bro! You’re doing well! |

EgunMogaji2: I have 104” width by 60” depth space for my master bathroom. I ended with this small space because I carved out my safe room from it which is a ridiculous 12’ x 12’.
Do you think I can fit both a standing shower and a bath or I should just go for a shower alone. I doubt they have bathtubs in 5’ length. You’d be fine with just one. Meanwhile, shower enclosure is the in-thing now. |

Naijapal: U trap is what you need to insert. I'll share a picture later in the evening. It's something similar to what happens at WC where odour can't pass through the water.
Edit: ignore. On re-reading it's clear the odour is outside and not inside the building. The solution I proposed is for indoor odour. Raise the pipe very high as suggested. Methane and other constituents is lighter than air and would not come down when released at a higher height. Maintenance-Free Solution. |

PAPAFEELERS: Good day All and trust your day is progressing well.
Please what can one add to a soakway to douse the odor emanating from it? the soakaway is not full just to make it clear but the odor comes out from the vent ontop of the soakaway.
I am wondering if there are chemicals or freshners that can be placed in the soakaway or vent to douse the order?
We learn everyday and the knowledge shared will be beneficial to the society. Block the vent on the septic tank and get your plumber to run another vent to a safe place outside your fence or on the roof. Any space higher than the roof will keep the smell away. |

yungmin: You quoted and unquoted a document lol. I have done 75meters without expansion joint. More so, as the structural designer, I can decide to remove expansion joint and then apply the estimated temperature variation as a load in the structural analysis. I cited it for reference. I also had to quickly agree that there’s a new research which nullified the initial claim. #GiGo |

Itsrm: You are only repeating what he himself has acknowledged here. Emphasis on the bolded
See quote below
Where I fault him is he didn't just add the pipes or do whatever it takes to get the exact dimension he was told to make To be honest, I didn’t see that comment. This means the client is not at fault. If I give you money to buy me a 3ft door, I expect a 3ft door and not something less. The explanation given won’t fly with me because I understand what’s at play. The vendor is trying to reduce offcuts/wastages on the job which is fine but I shouldn’t be made to pay for that. I do give my workers instruction not to cut my plywood but I won’t tell them to reduce the decking size because I don’t want to use more boards. I provide them alternatives to use when I want to minimize wastages. |
