uncleteeh:But you’re convinced that sniper will work because you were told it will ![]() |
topsy23:Science of our fathers! Just to give you ideas of what I’m up against, I had to use a Caterpillar to remove the termite mound during foundation of my building. After this, I bought everything buyable to stop the termite before one elderly old man suggested to me that I should do the do. The question I ask myself is “What does this cost me?” Nothing!! The man is not asking me to bring money na. Till date I still have woods used for my roofing lying in my backyard and nothing has happened to them except warping. No pictures to share. |
folmus:Good morning elder folmus |
africaflozy:Go the traditional way. Bury a dog on your site. It worked like magic for me! It sent termite colony away from my neighbourhood. |

gbadexy:In the face of law, there’s no human BUT if it was me, I won’t pay a dime. While trying to protect the right of the client to gain sufficient compensation, we should also not forget to protect the person who innocently gave his recommendation from being overburdened by the liability of a third party. For me, a wrongdoer should pay for his/her own act if it has been sufficiently established that the person who gave the recommendation is completely innocent. You know law is stvpid though if you don’t know your right and how to defend it. LASTMA has tried to book me for causing gridlock in Lekki Phase 1, while the guy was trying to harass me. I asked him to shut up and help me push the car off the road to ease the traffic. I told him “Do you expect me to carry it on my head when it stopped working? Or does this place look like my destination? And what exactly is your job? To harass people or to manage traffic situations?” The guy went silent as people around started clapping. ________ A magistrate once asked my lawyer “Can you just allow this guy speak please?” I once asked a DCP of Police a question “How did you arrive at your conclusion?” He starred mumbling for words. I just move because I know what he doesn’t know and you don’t terrorize people like us who is not moved by the I’ve lost money’s too and I didn’t turn myself into a mad dog. It only made me become wiser and more aware of my money mistakes. _________ Until we start to sufficiently address the issue of using cheap blackmails to cow innocent folks, we won’t make any meaningful progress in our world. Just read that part “...stake your good brand for this fiasco.” If there’s huge consequence for libel and defamation, you won’t dare it. I come in peace o egbon! I enjoy your piece but I disagree completely with your line of thought. @gbadexy this is not for you. |
This is my usage in a year.

uncleteeh:Na elder Spyder880 fit tell you the kain gbese we dey chop for projects. |
gabbytabby:He was very much aware of everything. About the same time, the same guy did approval for his dad too in a different location. Cos I went through a similar issue I knew you did for him the only option available at the time because it was impossible to get the one he wanted unless one has a COfO.This was exactly his worry and coupled with the fact that he got to realize that the land he bought had k-leg. Good to know you understand the challenge as at that time. We were all relatively new to the forum and so people got involved but now, people done tired of one after the other and would let you know to do your due diligence cos you are OYO if matter get k leg.I agree. However my fear right now is I hope things don’t degenerate into a situation where people start to use cheap blackmail to take advantage of one another. Twinskenny did nothing wrong recommending the borehole contractor. To me, calling him out and labeling him is a cheap way to make him accept liability for all that happen. Let us leave maverick matter in the archives as a learning experience. ![]() I have become better versed at the different options open to me to achieve my objective. Some lawyer letter will do it, some you have to take all the way to court/mediation and others you throw the kitchen sink.It took me a long time to realize this. I cannot forget what my lawyer friend told me few years ago. He said “Bosun, you’re greedy o! You do multi-million naira projects and you cannot afford to pay us N200k retainership to prepare all your documents.” Yes you pick your battles cos not only your mental health go suffer but if you don't you go die quick. Too many crazy people for 9ja.Thanks for sharing ma. This is profound! |
spyder880:Elder Spyder880, abeg I have one burning issue to resolve. Shey make I send Thanks! Thanks for all you do. It matters a lot. If things keep going these way, police will be out of business very soon. ________ @micgray100, baba God will surprise you this week. Abeg let it slide! |
abuiltech:By keeping track of commitments and using accountability framework and building systems that promotes culture of accountability. - who needs to do what to complete the task at hand. (The plumber needs install new pipes to fix the leaky pipe). - who is ultimately accountable for the completion of the task or deliverable. (The contractor needs to provide 5 length of 2inches pipe and topgit gum that the plumber require to deliver the job). Invariably, the contractor is responsible for delegating the work to the plumber who is responsible for completing it. - who needs to be consulted to tick off the project as completed. (The MEP consultant need to be invited by the contractor to verify the installation and tick it off as completed). He's involved in the specific stage of the project in a consulting and advisory capacity. - who needs to be updated on the progress made so far? (The client/project manager/supervisor needs to be informed at every milestone).. By my training, none of the guys listed above is expected to jump the process. They are to stay accountable to the process and not result. They are encouraged to reward good effort and not just the outcome. This is the way to build a culture of respect and accountability. Following this very simple process is tough for most Nigerians. We will rather muddle up the process and start looking for someone to blame or held responsible. ________ Flip over archaic system, not people. Use commonsense, not gra gra. |
Jeff68:I'm very sorry for the late reply. I was swamped with work. I have witnessed the installation of the bio-digester but it was quite a long time now and we've done series of discussion on the system (the pros and cons). I think it's a very cool solution and I'd recommend it. One of the major challenge right now is getting a perfect installer as my verified contact for the installation of the system is unreachable now. What I can do to help is to visit one of his old installations to get his details. I hope that's fine. |
Born2conquer:You value your mental health. We are all raised differently though. _________ I'm currently working on a project for a client here. I was done with design since February 2021. We made payment for approval since February or March. We even settled my contact in the civil service with whooping N200k and made some other payments that do not have records. The most interesting part is that this client who's well connected still call me to say "Thank you" for an uncompleted job and he was still showing empathy for the stress the ministry guys are making me to go through over the job. We talk as brothers. He wasn't mad at me because of issues I have no control over. When he decided to prevail on the matter with his connection, even the most dread officers in Lagos State Tax Office and Ministry of Physical Planning delivered what was taking over 5 months to address in less than 4 hours. I think he value his mental health and do all he can to prevent avoidable heartache. |
Born2conquer:Someone talked about hypocrisy of this forum and we were silent about it. How’s this different from “Brabus vs Mavericks” approval saga? I was compelled to refund the monies paid to a staff of the Lagos State Civil Service. Despite the fact that maverick live just 5 minutes drive from the Ikota office of the Ministry of Physical Planning, Lagos. He wasn’t ready to go to the office to fight the govt even when the guys there were waiting for him to come and challenge them. That’s why I laugh when we say Elders here. May I not become such elder who turn blind eyes to the truth. The only thing that necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. I’m not surprised we keep harping on issues like this every now and then. It’s simply because we are hypocrites and selective in passing judgements. |
Born2conquer:Will the lawyer put the money in his pocket? When the issue of taking the borehole contractor to the police was raised, I just laugh. Police ![]() I remember helping someone here to track down a debtor who ran away with his N15m. The shocking part was that we were the one who end up giving money to feed the guy and get him a bail when police got him arrested. A supplier here is owing me some money, I’ve completely forgotten about it and I’ve given him even bigger jobs. I’m very quick to forgive, forget and move on with my life. It’s far cheaper for me than taking medications or having people organize pity parties for me. |
Born2conquer:No matter the amount involved, my mental health matter to me more than anything else. Worrying about money can make our mental health deteriorate. So I cut my losses and walk away from bad deals/businesses/relationships and never to look back. __________ I’ve seen people kill themself because of N100. I got the rudest shock of my life when a cement seller took poison because of N13,000 debt. |

Enyinne:Tell your engineer, this is coming from a professional and not a me-think guesswork. |
abuiltech:This is awesome! Thanks for sharing with us. My eyez on you |
micgray100:Now I understand your side of the story and I think you deserve a full refund a job not done. As suggested earlier, terminate the contract officially and make your full position known to the contractor and the person who recommended him. Once again, twinskenny has really tried here. He has tried using police. He has made huge sacrifices when he’s not even expected to do so BUT I’ll appeal to him at this time to work with you to put an end to this issue. By not delivering this project, his contact (the driller) is still having over 50% of the fund with him because the client didn’t engage him to show up with a faulty equipment, drill few meters and run away. The implication of this in my my own layman understanding is that he’s trying to defraud his customer because he obtained money from him to drill a borehole knowing fully well he lack the capacity to do so. |
wolfofafrikkaa:I’m glad you do. Thank you. |
michlins:You don’t click every link. Ear muffs are available in every local market.
|
micgray100:Thanks for sharing with us. I have few questions sir. 1. You said the only thing done on site so far is that the guy brought the casing pipes. Does this imply the guy hasn’t drill at all? 2. If yes, at what point did you decide to pay him additional 100k after the 200k you sent through @twinskenny? 3. Was it after he brought his equipment to site? Or after he brought the casing pipes? 4. Have you tried reaching out to the guy on your own to understand his challenge and both look for a way to resolve amicably? I think the N50k offered by twinskenny is fair enough and you should do all you can to chase up the guy to get him to complete the job or refund you for job not done. Even if it means appealing to Twinskenny to help you prevail on him or apply force. Here’s my recommendation: - Divide the balance of N150,000 between all the parties involved (Yourself, the Contractor and twinskenny). - Approach the contractor to let him know your decision to officially terminate the contract and ask for a refund of N50k from him. - Write him officially and give him ample time to respond to you. He might have good reasons. - If he’s unreachable or can’t read/write, pass your resolution across to him through twinskenny. _________ So far, so good you’ve been able to recoup 66% of what you’ve spent. If you’re able to get additional N50k from the guy, you’d have recovered 83%. The remaining 17% to be borne by you should be recorded as “experience fee” ![]() |
Born2conquer:Someone else would buy that “the true shape will come out when it’s dry” story. I don’t fire people who mess up, I help them with lesser function and keep them as a spare tire in case our newly found love chose to mess up. ![]() |
topsy23:Nice one! I do 1m level for switches, sockets etc (depending on design requirements) and do 1.8m level for wall sconces, lights, lintel, POP, slab etc.
