EgunMogaji2: Okay so the client may have the files? it’s not unobtainable. Maybe we should do a poll here Let’s see how many client have their dwg file. I’m sure we won’t get 3 - 5 people and they must have paid premium. Here wey we dey pay less than N100k for drawings ntori olorun, we still wan collect dwg files join. |

EgunMogaji2: Maybe it’s a Nigerian thing.
Why would I pay for plans without the CAD files?
Anyway, the Indians of Fiverr will continue to chop and clean mouth. Most architects would provide you pdf or dwf files. If you’re getting the dwg file, it must have been paid for in some way. It contains more than clients work but trade secret of some architects. |

EgunMogaji2: How do you know this?
ASS U ME Smiles. How else would he have done it without access to the original CAD files? Or maybe the architects’ contract with the client include DWG file sharing. I say this because we see it happening ALL the time since the dawn of CAD as a drafting tool. |

diordaves: You are missing the point.
The enquiry from pompoms involves changes to a drawing ALREADY done presumably by an architect. As a digress, your other post is already poopooing this drawing. Is that not a contradiction of this response?
The changes pompoms requires can be done by the same architect (this is what I said), but if the architect is inflexible and not reasonable with the billing, a draftsman can be an excellent option at a fraction of the price. The changes are just cosmetic. There is already an approved plan. I kuku know wetin I dey talk. Na you no get me. If you say this in 1980 - 90s, I’d understand. I was once a draftsman for my dad and all we need is blade to edit drawings. Nowadays, you need access to the CAD files to do an edit. I’m only at loss on how a draftsman who do no have access to the CAD files can reproduce a drawing he didn’t produce. My guess is he’d just do everything in assumption. Sebi decking na decking and the request is just to move wall from point A to B. |

n3xt: You’ll need your architect and a very good structural engineer ma/sir. Pls kindly disregard the advice of those telling you to do otherwise.
I don’t see you achieving loooooots of natural lights with the current design. Your upper floor will be so dark, you’ll need artificial lighting to access madams bedroom during daytime.
Having 2 windows in all room is not a guarantee you’d have natural lighting in all rooms. Remember you’ll pass through the stair and the lobby before you access the rooms.
_______
I just had time to go through the design. I know the person who clicked “like” We just worked on a more complex design 2 - 3 days ago and we were able to solve here problem without fuss. The architect is happy, the client is happy. Everyone is treated with mutual respect.

Pompoms: Thank you for your responses. The building is a duplex and I'd to post the plan here so I can be advised accordingly. The foundation and flooring has been done but now I want to modify it to:
* Include a gym with big windows , * Move the Maid's room "inside". * Eliminate the guest room downstairs. * Maintain 3 bedrooms upstairs. * Reposition the study and laundry room, if need be. * Master bedroom to access the balcony. * Modern staircase. With looooots of natural light. (I hope I'm not asking for too much). Please, see attached photos. Many thanks. You’ll need your architect and a very good structural engineer ma/sir. MrOkenwa: Thank you for your updates on prices sir. I did same on cement, when you alerted us here few weeks ago, saved about 80k. My client by now would have saved over 400k on blocks alone on the XL6 Trillion project. 9 inches block is currently sold at 280/block and we kept the price at 200 naira/block definitely not because I’m stupid or trying to show off but to keep the project moving without blowing budget. We are actually plowing back the savings from block production to keep the work moving. There’s nothing more frustrating than starting a project without knowing how it’ll end just because you can’t effectively map out strategies to sustain the project in case of eventualities. I hate surprises. _______ Well done sir and wishing you all the best on your project.

Good morning noble ! You can hire whoever you like. Try a professional baba lati to draw your house if that suits you. But, if you are looking to have someone prepare a set of architectural drawings that are done by someone trained, registered, and licensed to design houses that not only protect public health and safety of its occupants but meet standards required by the law for approval and not some jankara drawing, then an Architect is advised. I agree that some “noble” draughtsman are quite competent and some architects are incompetent but regardless of how good a draughtsman is, the general levels of their training are not comparable - not meant to be anyway. This has nothing to do with nobility. It’s just the plain truth no matter how much we try to sugarcoat it. Anyway, you’re doing a noble thing if you are engaging in conversation with a desire to understand rather than persuade. |

diordaves: Wetin dey surprise you? It is an acquired skill of the trade. People make a fruitful career out of the profession. Draughtsman work based on given specifications and calculations. They work with sketches and specifications of architects to produce working plans. Draughtsman know how to draw (move door, move windows, change this, change that...) but an architect know what to draw. My simple explanation of the big difference between an architect and a draughtsman. |

It goes beyond moving doors and creating larger windows. She wanted looooots of natural lights and even more. I could as well tell a lab attendant to perform surgery. |

diordaves: All these are just cosmetic changes without structural changes and very easy to change. The all-round chaining and the decking should hold the structural integrity of the building. Just reverse the direction/position of this door and change that wall. That's all. Don't fret, na easy adjustment. Go back to your architect for the changes; if s/he is asking for the moon, just look for the nearest draughtsman. Eyes dey red now but draughtsman suppose fit do am for like 10k. Una dey see what red cap chief is spewing on this platform. Where are the ARCON representatives? |

Though it has gone bankrupt, I’m pretty sure Dangote, not Lafarge or any of the big players owned Ava Cement in Edo State.
The same applies to Purechem.
They’re all small players but they’re not subsidiaries. |

https://www.globalcement.com/magazine/articles/1079-cement-in-west-africa It’s ok. All I know is Ibeto Cement is not owned by Dangote, BUA or Lafarge and it has been in existence for more 3 decades or more. |

If you’re NOT taking advantage of Supafix Tiles Adhesive by Lafarge, you’re really missing a lot
I was offered the same Tile Adhesive in Lagos N3,000 per bag while it is currently sold at N2,000 official price.
Find out why swimming experts are making a s switch to Supafix.
I know some folks will still wait till the price go to N3500 to reach a conclusion on the product and we will start blaming the government, the system, the company and anything and everything along the line. |

somehow: I do know he must get a license to operate, like I repeated before, there are more than 8 companies with license, some are on paper and some aren't producing up to capacity, anyone can go negotiate with those wasting the license.
The American Govt pegged the price of gasoline, not that they decide how much each fueling stations must sell their product. (Prices varies between states).
It's almost similar to that of Nigeria (fuel) abeit subsidy.
Iraq or any other war started by the US got little to do with pricing but distribution/availability. (Not like they don't even have oil, they have the highest oil reserve in the world). This particular market is still not in the US's favor.
Political war, economic war o, self interest comes first.
The banning is more of self interest irrespective of the label it came though.
He banned these products due to politics (Which is more economical than political if you look deeper)
We also banned some products including cement for economic reasons (To allow local coys grow).
In summary, there is no import dependent country in the world that is a model for progress and prosperity.
My parting shot : We surely need more local manufacturering companies in the cement industry.
