Members of the Asobo family in Mbagen, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, have raised the alarm over the disappearance of their son, Bishop Sylvester Asobo.

The Head of the Asobo family, Mr. Theduis Asobo, in a statement, yesterday, said their missing son was declared wanted by the police in Kaduna State for alleged blasphemy on March 5, 2018.

According to the family, Bishop Asobo, the leader of the Kingdom Citizens International Bible Church has neither been arrested nor seen anywhere since the Kaduna State Police Command declared him wanted in 2018.

The Police Command declared the Bishop wanted for allegedly serially preaching against a particular Muslim religious sect.

Theduis Asobo said: ”The police in declaring him wanted, urged anyone with useful information about him to report to the nearest police station.”

The Bishop, who is 54 years old, was last seen in the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State on March 5, 2018, and his whereabouts have remained unknown since then.

Efforts to speak with the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, proved abortive as his phone number did not go through.

Five Persons have been reported dead in the building collapse at the Oduigbo section of Ochanja Market in Onitsha South Local Government Area.

Following Channels Television’s report on Tuesday, the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, visited the scene of the incident where he condoled with the victims of the mishap.

Our correspondent gathered that three of the five buildings under construction at the market collapsed on Monday evening, trapping several people under the rubble.

So far, twenty-six people have been rescued with five fatalities reported.

While addressing the crowd, Governor Soludo recalled that he had instructed that no shop should be erected in any market in the state without the approval of the Physical Planning Board, and his signature.

Governor Soludo who was visibly emotional, condoled with the victims and their families and promised to assist those affected by the disaster.

He stressed that such an incident is part of the impunity his government is working hard to nip in the bud, cautioning developers against building without an approved plan.

The Governor also pointed out that due to the rascality of the contractor for building without a plan, after the search and rescue efforts, the contractor will be made to remove all the rubbles at his own cost, in addition to facing the full wrath of the law.

He also pledged to work with relevant authorities to ensure that such an unfortunate incident never repeated itself, adding that his administration will take inventory of all the markets in the state while warning that similar ongoing illegal structures in Ose, Ogbo-Ogwu, among others, will be demolished.

Efforts are ongoing to rescue those still trapped under the rubble, hours after the incident. Emergency responders are digging the rubbles to extricate survivors, and recover remains from the collapsed building.

Some survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency medical attention.

The incident has since sparked public outrage in the area, with people expressing concerns over the safety of buildings in the city.

While reacting, many called for an investigation into the structural integrity of buildings in the city, and for more stringent safety regulations to be put in place.

The governor acknowledged the concerns raised by members of the public and promised to set up a committee to fully investigate the incident, assuring residents that the government would take necessary steps to ensure that buildings in the city are safe for habitation.

He called on the public to remain calm and support the ongoing rescue efforts, praising the efforts of emergency responders who risked their lives to save others and urged them to continue the good work.

A 29-Year-Old Man, Joseph Yakubu, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly killing his father, Yakubu Dalyop, with a pestle.

Yakubu was said to have picked a pestle and hit his father during a disagreement.

This led to the victim’s unconsciousness and eventual death.

The Suspect who committed the act in the Anglo-Jos community, Jos South Local Government Area of the state was among other suspects paraded for various offences on Tuesday by the state Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, at the command’s headquarters in Jos.

The commissioner said, “On 20/02/2024 at about 6pm, information was received at the Anglo-Jos division by a good Samaritan that on 15/02/2024 at about 8pm, one Joseph Yakubu, male, 29yrs of Kambel Anglo-Jos had a minor misunderstanding with his father, one Yakubu Dalyop aged 49yrs.

“As a result, the son took a pounding pestle and hit the father on the head. The father became unconscious and was rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

“Unfortunately, he died on 19/02/2024 at about 1pm while receiving treatment. The suspect has been arrested while the corpse was deposited at the same hospital mortuary”

The commissioner said the case was still under investigation and the suspect would be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The commissioner said after studying the security situation I the state, he had designed a new operational template for the command which would flush out criminals from their nests across the state.

He said the application of the new operational strategies within a few weeks in office had started yielding positive results with the arrest of criminals paraded for criminal conspiracy, trespass, disturbance of public peace, kidnapping, and culpable homicide

He assured the people of adequate protection of their lives and property while soliciting their support and cooperation to achieve the objective.

Police In Jigawa State have arrested a 32-Year-Old Man, Samuel Shegun over alleged killing of his biological mother.

State Commissioner of police, CP. AT Abdullahi stated this while parading the suspect at the command’s headquarters, in Dutse, the state capital.

DAILY POST reported that the police discovered a lifeless body of a 47-year-old woman, Esther Adekanla, popularly known as Hadiza Nakowa in her house at Dutse town.

He said following the investigation, detectives from State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, arrested one Samuel Shegun of opposite Awajil filling Station Dutse, in connection with the case of brutal killing of his mother, one Esther Adekanla of the same address and injured his sister.

The suspect was arrested via tracking of the deceased phone number, which linked him to the offence.

According to him, “On interrogation, the suspect disclosed that, on 12/02/2024 at about 2200hrs, his mother returned back from where she sells food, and that she started fighting with the young girl, Christiana Michael to the extent that she held a knife. In his effort to rescue the girl, he dragged her back when they all fell, she cut herself on the neck with the said knife.

“When he realized the gravity of the offence committed and he didn’t want to be called by the security operatives, he decided to steal her phones, lock the house and move far away from the area.”

CP. Abdullahi said the little girl, who is recuperating from various injuries sustained, is still under medical care and responding to treatment.

He said the girl has confirmed to the police that the suspect single handedly committed the offence.

The suspect will be charge to court for prosecution.
