Parents were blessed with children by God. He expects parents to bring up these children in the fear of God so they can grow up to become good citizens, & help build Society, not destroy Society. However, parents are busy working to cater for their family. They get back home after a hard day's work completely worn out. This is the patern daily. Saturdays & Sundays are the days they have to spend with the children. The house helps who cater for the children can not bring them up to required standard. Their teachers at school can do only a little for the children. So parents have to be alive to their responsibility. The children need guidance at all times. Parents should create time for their children. Ensure they are counselled on various issues. The daily family devotion should be geared towards teaching the children more about God; His likes & dislikes. Let them know the penalty for not doing the will of God. The children are ours. We owe them a duty by giving them good upbringing, so they can be good citizens when they grow up. Some parents deliberately pamper their children because they are wealthy, & they feel the children should be allowed to enjoy themselves. On the long run they over-pamper them, they become unruly, disrespectful to their parents & others. They can not clean, cook or do things for themselves because they have house helps to do things for them. Such children on the long run bring disgrace to their family. Please parents, the ball is in your court.

Man is undisputably the family head ordained by God. Ladyjide, in response to your question, the woman, his wife, is his partner, ordained by God. Both of them are therefore to work together in love & harmony in order to succeed. They must first & foremost put God first in their home, for a lasting marriage. The man as head of the home should give his wife her due respect as his partner. There must be that mutual love & respect for each other. The man should be able to provide for his family & train his children. Some men even train their wives. Where the man is unable to adequately cater for his family's needs, his wife, if she is working, should assist him. However the man should always commend & thank her for the assistance. But if the man is the ungrateful type, the woman will very reluctantly assist in the home. Some men ask their wives to hand over her pay packet to them. They give money to her when she needs it. This I call slavery. How can that type of marriage last? The man being in charge, must apply wisdom at all times in handling his family affairs. He has every right to impose decisions on his family. But doing that will definitly cause friction between him & his wife, & even the children. So it will be necessary for the man to consult with his wife before taking certain decisions. Also, the man can convene family meetings from time to time, to discuss issues concerning the family, so that his wife & children (where they are old enough), can make their contributions. This does not mean that the man is a weakling. Rather this will make him earn the love & respect of his family. A wise man will humble himself & do all it takes to maintain that love, peace & harmony in his home. In so doing the family remain united forever.

There is absolutely need for birth control in view of the poor economy. Parents should limit the number of children they wish to have to 4, which is a manageable number. If the children are too many, parents can not control them effectively. Parents should realise that there is so much to be done with the meagre salary or resources at their disposal. They will do so many things, including training their children up to university level. Education is the only legacy parents can bequeath to their children. So if they bring children into the world & rather than train them, allow them to hawk pure water, become bus conductors, etc., then what have they achieved as Parents? Absolutely nothing. In most cases, such children become thieves, armed robbers, & at that stage the parents are in real trouble. The image of the family has been dented. There was a man who had 24 children. This man was a driver. The news came one day that two of his children were arrested for armed robbery. Digresing a little - the man probably wanted the children to represent him in some states of Nigeria hence he had so many. Apart from sending children to school, it is necessary to give them proper upbringing. Children should be taught the basic necessities of life. They should be taught to greet their elders; to make themselves useful in the home, doing house chores; how to behave in public; etc. The proper upbringing of these children will groom them for the challenges of the future. These children need their parents to guide them at every stage until they can stand on their own. The moment that direction is not there, the children go wrong in so many ways. I realise that parents need to go to work to earn some money. But it is still their responsibility to care for their children. Please do not relinquish your duty to housemaids. Always ensure you check & double check what they are doing, as it concerns your children, so you dont run into problems. Why bring these children into the world if we can not take care of them? If we fail in our duties to our children, our failure will hunt us for the rest of our lives. Besides, we will answer to God because He put them in our care.

The prevailing poor economy is biting hard. It is difficult for most families to feed. Children of school age who can not go to school hawk pure water, etc. to sustain the family. Parents are experiencing difficulty in sending their children to Higher Institutions as school fees have soared. Those who manage to complete their training go for NYSC for one year, and thereafter stay at home with their parents. In view of the situation it has become necessary for couples to control child bearing, and take good care of the children they have. It is one thing to have children, and another to train them, and groom them for the challenges of the future. House, can I have your input on this?

Childlessness in a marriage is not enough reasons for couples to split. Why did the couples get married? Because they were in love. So that love should see them through every problem that confronts them, including the problem of childlessness. It could be a trial from God. The most painful aspect of the whole thing is that, should couples with kids break up, the kids are the worst hit. Those women who continue to perpetuate this irresponsible behaviour will never go unpunished. Most of them are already serving punishment. What goes around must always come around. With the report of the News Magazine, namely, that Atiku laundered about N6 billion into the U.S. Ilegally, for which he is wanted, to face trial, the thief, rogue, fool, should be behind bars now. Ibb & Atiku should be behind bars, but because they are using their ill-gotten wealth to bribe, they have taken over a whole nation. It is indeed a very sad development. Our people are suffering while they & their family live in comfort. See Atiku's wife in the U.S. Iiving like a queen. God must intervene & sweep this nation & rid it of these rotten & filty eggs.

Blazay, thanks for that post. I wish the men folks will read it & take care of their family. This will save so many marriages. If only our men will understand, that those little girls that keep them away from their family, are only interested in their money, & not the men themselves, it may help solve this major problem. The unfortunate thing is that even some who know that the girls are not really interested in them still go ahead making a mighty fool of themselves. I pray such men will come to their senses timely & save their marriage. Haven said that, we cannot completely exonerate women from blame. Some women also have illicit love affairs right there in their matrimonial home. Such women are disgrace to womanhood. I appeal to couples to, for the sake of their kids, make their marriage work. The bond between mother & child is very strong because the mother carried the child for 9 good months. During pregnancy we know what the mother suffered; morning sickness, some women go in & out of hospital, until they deliver, delivery is not easy, etc. The mother would always want to feel her baby's movement, sometimes talking to her unborn baby lovingly. That love for the baby is always strong, except of course in cases of unwanted pregnancies. So why would anyone say that he or she would not respect the mother for giving birth to him or her? People like ZIM DRILL should be made by God to experience what a woman goes through during & after pregnancy, just once. Then there will be no room for these long arguments. Like MissyB rightly said, some women do not want to have babies because they feel it would ruin their figure, forgetting someone gave birth to them. Some sell their baby for money, some abort their pregnancy, some give birth & abandon their baby. So ZIM DRILL you have a lot for which you should be grateful to your mum. And after delivery a woman has to bring up the child until the child settles down. Even then, she never stops having anxious moments for her children. There is no doubt that the Country needs an overhaul. There is so much being done to kill this nation. Those who are in power are siphoning money left, right & centre. How can the nation survive this? If of the total of N4.427 trillion budgetted for the entire Federation, the National Assembly alone gets N0.158 trillion, what is the rationale behind that?
