What are some of the things you've created in your programming journey..... People are definitely going to ask for what you have done before or your github repo. Abi u delete what u have coded after coding it?

Exactly what I wanted to ask.
Romance with all the languages doesn't count. Projects you have built along the way is a very big deal.

issuing commands to a computer by a human is what you call obsolete? Is cooking-by humans- also obsolete? As far as they r computers and humans,a.i,cloud whatever will never replace programmers or human programming. To do so, human intelligence level a.i will hav to b created. So far that isnt happening yet. The scientific world isnt even near that level yet.
Programs are instructions a computer executes - it has nothing to do with petabytes of data etc. Many business software are being written nd will b written without huge silos of data churned. The business transaction occurs because one person provided paid value to another. Period.

Thank you!!!
I love your comment.
Granted Machine Learning is a very big deal, but human programming is never going to be obsolete.

Some of us on here shouting human programming is obsolete haven't even built or done any major product/project with ML.

People keep misinterpreting the scripture.
Blood moon is a natural phenomenon. It doesn't signify the coming of christ. In fact what signify the coming of christ is recorded in [b]Matthew 24:3-8[\b]

I'm not an expert or pro, but I read.
If you are proficient in html, css, js, Php and MySQL; try to build some stuffs to show. You might get well paid to do stuffs you love too, not just working for free.

Fill out your profile on http://getdev.co
And spread the word on freecodecamp Lagos group on Facebook too.

Hi Op. I can understand your concern for the future. Let me give you my own thoughts:

Have you given a thought about Robotics and artificial intelligence?
Before you graduate, learn c, c++ and python programming languages. Know them well enough. Go into Robotics and AI. That's what is shaking the world, and it will continue to shake the world.
Check for online course like in udemy or pluralsight. If you have some cash go for online paid courses on the programming languages above and robotics.

Have a positive mental attitude.

Religion / Re: Gloria Bamiloye: "Why Wearing Of Trousers By Christian Women Is Not Good" by Nascimento(m): 9:38pm On May 04, 2018
Let's look at it this way. In Bible times, men and women wear skirts or gowns. There was no male trousers nor female trousers. But male and female skirts were different in appearance.
No times have changed. Man where trousers. Women too wear trousers. But there is a clear difference between a male trouser and female trouser, just like in Bible time.
It's not wrong or a sin for a woman to wear trousers. But it's important to know what to wear for every occasion.
Just my opinion though.

3rd point it is a tool for depopulation.
Thanks for asking.

My brother, HIV wasn't created by man. It's naturally occurring (probably Zoonotic at the beginning). Must have gotten virulent when it found its way to the human system.

Secondly, let's stop deceiving ourselves. There are no none cure for HIV. Scientists haven't been able to find a cure because of the virus behaviour (ie binding itself to the white blood cells).

It's not a tool for depopulation.

Please try to reason like a learned person.

OP the guy is right. You were able to learn and implement QBasic in 4 days because you have fundamental knowledge of how to program.
For an newbie, it will take more than 6 day to know how the fundamentals, then learn and implement php (following industrial standard). Except you want to teach them simple CRUD, I don't see how that's possible.

I want to know, when can someone called himself a developer?
What is the diff btw Junior and Senior Developer?

When you've burnt your fingers building some applications (useful one) and when you are able to breakdown problems into bits to be able to solve them using codes. Then you can call yourself a developer.

Junior developer (< one year experience) while senior dev(>5+ experience), but one thing is common to both of them. They must pass through what I mentioned above.

There was a lot of positives from what happened to me. At least, I now know what direction I want to follow in programming (based on the Nigerian market) and what stack to learn.
I'm channelling all my energy and resources into learning, building and becoming a better developer.

Programming / Re: They "Hate" PHP, Yet PHP Job Is All Their Hope - Noise Making Amateurs by Nascimento(m): 12:30am On Aug 30, 2017
ZestAri:
Everywhere you cross these days you see them talking how terrible PHP is for web development. The funny thing is that some of these folks who disparagingly criticise PHP are newbies who can't really "relate" to or clearly explain why PHP is "awful."

Granted, PHP isn't one of the best designed languages out there judging from my deeper understanding of PHP and average knowledge of Java, C#, and JavaScript, with basic knowledge of C and C++, coupled with other stuff about programming/web...

However, there is too much noise by, mostly, noise making "programming JAMBitos" out there about PHP being a terrible language. Many of these guys can't build anything "clean" and meaningful with better languages they sing everyday (yes, we all know there are many better designed languages). But for web, many still find PHP awesome especially for the fact that it gets the site ready and running in a short period of time.

Also, these guys are either hypocrites or they are novices who have not studied the Nigerian market for web dev projects/jobs. Check web development jobs and projects out there, how many are PHP/WordPress/Laravel/Yii/Cake? Now, how many are are Ruby, Go, Java, etc.

For beginners
I'm writing this to advise beginners out there: if you are thinking career, don't follow the noise and noisemakers! Follow the market.

PHP wasn't originally designed to be like languages like C#. Check the history/purpose of PHP. However, if you want to talk about web development jobs in Nigeria today, PHP still tops the list, by far.

Hence, don't listen to those who "hate" PHP yet they feed themselves and family with PHP jobs.

The truth is if you are starting out with programming, I would suggest trying to understand programming itself. Python has always been a good choice to start with giving that it is relatively easy to understand. Java is a kinda cumbersome but will force you to think like a developer. PHP is scattered and more forgiving than Java.

Understanding programming will make it easy for you to pick a new language and learn it faster. Programming languages are just tools.

Knowing that a spanner is used to loosen nuts doesn't make you a mechanic; instead, knowing how to loosen nuts (with d right spanner, knowing whether to turn CW or CCW, if to add lubricants, etc.) is what mames you a mechanic.

Similarly, programming languages are just like different types of spanners. Knowing which and how to use them is what makes you a programmer.

After you've understood programming to some extent (not programming languages).... pick next language based on three things: market demand, purpose, future.

Those who say you should start learning web development with Go programming language are only talking based on awesomeness and future of the language (both of which they don't even know about. They only read and start ranting, like me?).

In conclusion,

I talk based on purpose, MARKET DEMAND, and near future.

I agree with them that PHP isn't well designed. I personally hate jumping between HTML and PHP, although MVC and other principles helped me understand how to separate even up to 99% of my PHP codes from HTML markup. Other bad stuff many real guru in programming talk about PHP are things many junior developers don't even clearly grasp why they are bad, let alone the noise makers.

This post is getting long and mixed up... Let me "come and be going" abeg. .

@OP thanks for this.
I used to be guilty of this, until I left my room desk to work briefly with a friend in the field. The truth is, PHP is required in every IT shop (except for enterprise) in Nigeria, aside c# and Java.

Lolz. Have you build serious stuffs with VB? If you've not, then you got a long way.

I learnt c# asp.net mvc. I just followed the examples, and I thought myself a dot net developer. I rushed to get a job as a dotnet developer and I failed woefully. It's just a summary of what happened to me.

Build serious stuffs with the language(s) you've learned, that way you'll become more proficient.

@OP my guess is that, you are just learning the syntax which is a very bad way of learning how to program. You'll hurt yourself! Why not learn how to program first. Starting with python, and building stuffs with it will go a long way in helping you get a firm grasp on programming. Then it will be easy for you to learn other languages.
One at a time.

You people need to stop this talk about one language being useless or this language is the best. Every language has their weaknesses and strengths. Some people will tell you that python as a language is slow. The most important thing is that you should know your primary language very well and stop echoing what your teachers told you.

I used to be on the bandwagon of those who don't like PHP for no reason.
Most "Nigerian Developers" talk nonsense about PHP because they read it online in a foreign tech blog.
Granted, PHP has its own cons just like any other language, but it's still the major server side programming language used in most Nigerian shops (aside c# and java).

hehehehe. Some people in this thread will not kill me...busy disproofing me of things I said...forgetting to understand the concept of OP's thread.

Well, my friend, different people learn in different speed. I remember a job that required rails, I hadn't even written a hello world in ruby. I was very good it many others and was experienced. I finished the job in a week+ as demanded, till today, may rails-friends can't believe twas rapid learning and googling.

All you need is experience. When you know what to expect from every good programming language...that is all...almost. grin

You are right. My tutor once told me that programming languages are just tools, and that if you know how to program (think), you can build stuffs in whatever language you or your clients want.

That's great! The Market is huge, especially in Lagos. Though I'm not an expert in the field, I'm still learning ; but learning only front-end web development won't take u far at all. Learn a backend skill too; like C# asp.net mvc or php, and SQL. And please don't rely on vue js in naija, please learn angular or react.
