Hey. My advise is not to get stuck with choosing between NodeJS or php. Pick one and learn it very well. Must importantly build stuffs with it. These programming languages are just tools. You can easily pickup new tools as you go along in your software dev journey.

Religion / Re: Why Is There So Much Suffering On Earth? by Nascimento(m): 10:32am On Feb 20, 2022
Steep:
The answer is sin!

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

God created a perfect world but Adam who was the head of the physical creation disobeyed God and brought sin into the creation, everything on earth is under a curse, hence the hardship abnormalities both medically and in otherwise, this world is literally dying, there is chaos, bitterness, pain, sickness, poverty, and every other malady.

But thank God he provided a means of redemption, Jesus christ the lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world.
Jesus Christ is the solution to sin he literally became sin (by taking on our sin) so we can become the righteousness of God.
the creation itself would be set free from its bondage when the sons of God (the redeemed are manifest) but however the future of this universe is complete annihilation by God.

However, God has a plan of creating a complete new heaven and earth with new human beings in them, this new creation is free from sin and as a result free from the woes of this creation and this my friend is what we the saints look forward to.

Dear friend to be part of this new creation all you have to do is to repent, (have a change of heart towards God by embracing his way) and faith towards Jesus christ.

And in addition we are living in the last days of this system of things. Just like Jesus said, the last days will bring distressing or perilous times 2 Timothy 3:1-5. During this time men will go from bad to worst; treating each other with so much wickedness and contempt. Indeed, man has dominated man to his injury.
Nairaland / General / Re: What Lessons Have You Learnt In 2021 by Nascimento(m): 4:57pm On Dec 31, 2021
Kalatium:
This thread is a Sequel to this 2020 thread https://www.nairaland.com/6335485/what-lessons-learnt-2020

As the year runs out, I thought it wise to once again reflect on lessons we have leart so far this year. I believe that we live to learn and in learning we live.

Here are 5 penned down leasons I became acquitted with this year.

1. Expect the best but prepare for the worst. Planning Is good but only up to a certain point because, more time than not, life does not go according to plan.
Do make your plans, but keep in mind things will most likely develop differently than what you planned.

As Mike Tyson once said " Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face."

You can't always get what you want no matter how you try. There are many things I tried to accomplish but no matter how I tried there are many challenges I kept facing.

2. Many people are too proud of whatever they think they have , belief or possess and tend to use this criteria to look down on others or fight them . We are proud of our ignorance, proud of our religion or denomination, proud of our tribe, proud of our socioeconomic status .

These are things we did nothing to get. We were fortunate to have found ourself in such tribe, religion, socioeconomic status (poor, rich or middle class) etc.

3. The 80/20 rule:
This is a principle that states that roughly 80% of results are generated from 20% of efforts.

To explain this law further:
• 20% of employees account for 80% of the companies success.

• You wear 20% of your clothes 80% of the time .

• You walk on 20% of your carpet 80% of the time.

• You spend 80% of your time with only 20% of your friends.

• 20% of Nairalanders deliver 80% of nairaland content.

4. People tend to remember more of your bad side that the good .
You may do many good things but once you do bad, that is where you get heavy criticism irrespective of your past good deeds. You might have been helping someone consistently but the day you refuse, you are seen as lacking compassion or wicked.

I think the human brain has a tendency to remember more bad things than good. I also think that's why bad news tend to get our attention more than good ones.

5. People always judge a book by it's cover. Within seconds of seeing you people have already judge you based on how you appear and project their thoughts on what you are like ,even before getting to know you.

What lessons have you learnt?

That personal development (career, health, spiritual ) is the ultimate.

Good evening everyone. I just left school yet I still feel so inadequate because of a lack of skill. I really wish to become a penetration tester, but I don't even have an idea on how to go about it. I don't have any background in programming so please I need the advice of everyone who can help, even with companies where I can learn it.

I'll advise you get the fundamentals down:
- networking
- understand operating systems (Windows, Linux, mac)
- understand how the web works. Learn some programming.

Then register on tryhackme.com, I'll recommend going for premium for this one (8 USD/month). Practice practice.
Have your own labs too.

After gaining some experience with tryhackme.com you can take the elearn security junior penetration tester course and cert (eJPT). Keep reading and practising. Build yourself from there. Go for some advance certs too on the elearnsecurity platform. It's also important to find internships.

But remember, penetration testing is just a tiny piece of information security.

You do not need certification for all of them na. Lots of courses on udemy, youtube. Only go for certification for the area of security u want to get into. E.g application security - (Free resources: on networking, programming, web dev, mobile dev) then paid (CEH or eJPT, Security +, do try hack me or hacktheboux.eu).

I studied some networking, MS server management, python, Some tutorials in Comptia A+, and I started some hacking training in hack the box (premium). Got a job as a web developer in the organization I work for currently. Then I was given a wonderful opportunity to learn on the job. Studied for ISMS exams and passed, and was given a lot of inhouse training before i was ready to take on customers' projects. I currently handle everything in Application security, since that is the area where I am more comfortable with becasue of my Dev background.

I will say get the basis of networking and server management (Active directory et al). Then pay for security +. After that Get a premium account on try-hack-me (8 pounds/10 USD per month). Once you are confortable with exploiting vulnerable machine, start applying fr a job, say as a security analyst intern or so. You cannot know everything about IT security by going to these training centre.
Get the fundamentals, then apply for an intern position.

I'm an HND holder(animal production) and planning to dive into the IT world (cyber security) but after reading the article yesterday I'm beginning to have doubts about whether to go for cyber security or a top-up degree.

Pls all advise are welcome

Hello. I work in cybersecurity.
I came from a bioscience background. I also have a background in web application development.
One thing I will tell you is this: Cybersecurity is a combination of various IT skills - from Networking, to application development to server management et al. You must know and understand the basics, and the underlying technologies and processes in Information Technology.

With that said, I'll advise you to get trainings and certification on the following:
1. Networking (Network+, CCNA etc). Not just to read book o. Go to centres that can teach you hands on skills in networking, how a SIEM works and the likes.
2. Learn how to program. Learn to be proficient in Python, intermediate skill in C++, Java and Web development (because you cannot hack a 3. web application without understanding how to build one) and may be some mobile development (If you want to go into mobile app pentesting).
4. Have a deep understanding of system administration.
5. Then take the CEH. But I prefer eJPT by Elearnsecurity because their exams is practical, you must hack to answer any of the 20 questions.
6. Take Security+ to understand how to secure your information assets.

Just as a note too, cybersecurity is not just about hacking, there is compliance aspect to it too. Like ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System), TOGAF, ITSMS etc.

Your HND is enough. Just show you competence in the things i mentioned above, and you will excel.
Good health to you.

Have you asked yourselves why NO ARCHEOLOGICAL SUPPORT EXISTS TODAY IN MECCA TO SUPPORT ISLAM'S CLAIM IN ITS BOOKS ABOUT THAT CITY? I challenge you to show us if any exist.

If u are still thinking that Jerusalem is still the seat of pure worship or the holiest site of worship, then you are wrong. Granted, the Israelites were chosen, but they rejected the messiah. With that rejection, God rejected them as his chosen people. God turned to the gentiles (us), giving us the privilege of having a relationship with him through his son Jesus christ. The Bible even said that in Every LAND, the man that fears Him, is acceptable to him. So everywhere we are is holy to God. Not Jerusalem, but everywhere we are. As long as we conduct ourselves in harmony to God's righteous standards and serve him in spirit and truth.

The story is a tale meant to enlighten the people. Christians are taking it too seriously. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil has to do with choices and consequences. It is not a physical tree.

That's another big contradiction for the literalist. If God knows everything, then of course he can't claim to not know they would disobey him.

Granted God has the power to know everything, but he choose not to interfere in all things. He create man as free moral agent. He gave man the liberty to choose. The only thing required for man to show his integrity to God and continue to enjoy blessings is to be obedient. But man chose to follow Satan, hence we suffer from our first parents single act of disobedience.

Religion / Re: Satan Lied When He Claimed The Kingdoms Of The World Were His by Nascimento(m): 12:42pm On May 09, 2021
BrainSanitizer:
There's no such creature as "Satan".
The spirit of good and even both dwell in man.
Man is the centre of God's creation just like the tree placed at the centre of the garden of Eden held the knowledge of good and evil.
The tree held life and death.
So does man.
Give a man a knife and he'll use it to chop vegetables and prepare you a nice meal.
Give a man a knife and he'll use it to stab his neighbour in the chest so that he can take over his wife.
Was it the knife? Or the man?
Have you ever had the power to do something and you know that you can do that thing?
Did you allow this knowledge intoxicate you to the point of abusing your power?
Learn from the story of the temptations of Jesus where he rebuked the demands of his flesh (Satan) and allowed the holy Spirit to operate in him.
Some people beat their chest and say "yes! Now I've arrived! Who dares me gets it hotter than fire! I am now very rich and powerful!"
This is self worship due to the knowledge of possessions. Jesus rebuked it strongly and so should we.
If you understand the foregoing, you should get an understanding of the other two temptations of Jesus as it relates to the battle between Satan (the flesh) and God (the holy spirit).
You have heard the saying "an idle mind is the devil's workshop".
You know, as well as I do that the devil can not possibly enter someone's mind and get to use his tools to work of it were a creature.
It's all in our thought.
Bottom line...
Beware of the angels you see at day...
For at night, those same angels can become demons equipped to destroy.
For light and darkness dwell in man.
May the spirit of light always prevail over darkness as we trust in the unfailing grace of God through Jesus Christ.

There is nothing like the spirit of good and bad dwelling in man. We are free moral agents. We decide what to do, good or bad.
If you say satan is not a creature, then who tempted Jesus after he got baptised? Who challenged Job's integrity before God in heaven? Who contended with Michael for the body of Moses? Who did the Bible refer to as "the god of this system of thing"? Who does was the book of revelation 12:12 referring to when it say: "... Devil has come down to you... Knowing he has a short period of time".
The Devil is real. He's a wicked spirit creature influencing all the vices in the world today. Jesus came to break the works of the Devil not the work of man, but the works of the Devil.
Please get that.

Daniel 2:37-41
[37]You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory;
[38] and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all—you are this head of gold.
[39]But after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to yours; then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.
[40]And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others.
[41]Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay.

DID YOU NOTICE FROM THE ABOVE VERSES THAT, GOD HAS GIVEN THE RULERSHIP OF THIS EARTH TO MAN? THE KINGDOMS OF THIS EARTH BELONG TO MAN.

THOSE WHO CLAIM SATAN RULES THE EARTH, SHOW US WHERE THAT AUTHORITY WAS GIVEN SATAN? THE DEVIL IS A LIAR

See Satan's lies below

Luke 4:5-8
[5]Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
[6]And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.
[7]Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”
[8]And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

JUST AS THE DEVIL DECEIVED EVE IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN, HE TRIED DECEIVING THE LORD JESUS, BUT HE FAILED. THE DEVIL IS A LIAR

John 8:44

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

IN SPITE OF THE BOLDED, MANY STILL BELIEVE SATAN SPOKE THE TRUTH WHEN HE CLAIMED HE OWNED THE KINGDOMS OF THE WORLD

Satan did not lie. 2 corinth 4:4 and Eph 16:11 show that he's the ruler of the world. God allowed Satan to rule. Satan challenged God's sovereignty or right to rule man back in Eden because of his selfish desires. He's been given a chance to show that he has the right to rule. But we all know he's failed woefully. Never has mankind been plunged into senseless misery and brutality.
Satan knows he has a short period of time because his time is up. Shortly, he's be dashed to pieces.
And between, Satan is not man. He's a powerful spirit creature. He's ruthless and targets anyone who put faith in God.

I really don't understand the cognitive steps that lead people to this kind of conclusion...

If I say: "OK show us your faith, don't eat or drink anything for 6 months, prayer will see you through", the ultra-religious will reply "don't tempt God", sidestepping entirely their claim that prayer is what heals.

Food is needed to fuel the body.
Vaccine is needed to teach the body to make antibodies.

Why is this a concept some religious people have trouble with?
It's not faith that feeds hungry people, in spite of what the good pastor thinks. It also is not faith that heals people from disease. These are demonstrable facts.

These same religious have no problems taking anti-malarial injections or going for surgery as needed. I really wish those who would rather use faith refrain from any modern medicine. They should allow the disease to kill them, go to their heaven and leave the rest of us alone.

There is this notion that the vaccine is a medium to have the world under the control/influence of the antichrist. Hence, the call to boycott it from some churches.
The problem with these guys is that they never experienced first hand what the virus has done Europe and America. If they had seen how people get wasted by the virus, I don't think they be talking like this.
This is simple science: vaccine is not a cure. It's only helps the body learn to fight the virus, giving us better chance to survive, when we catch the virus.
It also surprises me how these so called Christians deny that there is a pandemic. It gets to show that they don't even study their bibles. Didnt the read that "there is going to be pestilence" (diseases, pandemic) in the last days?
Blind faiths everywhere.

Education / Re: Anthony Obikwelu Invents Machine That Converts Pure Water Nylon To Fuel by Nascimento(m): 9:44pm On Jan 10, 2020
iamstanc:
Photos Of Machine Invented By Unizik Student That Can convert Pure Water Nylon to fuel

A just graduated student of  Chemical Engineering Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anthony Obikwelu, has stunned the science world after he developed and manufactured a machine that can convert plastic and other waste materials into fuel.

Below is the detailed inscription on what the machine is all about. He writes,

This machine produces petroleum based fuel (closely diesel) from thermal pyrolysis of waste plastics.

Pyrolysis is the process of heating organic material at high temperatures in the absence of oxygen. Since no oxygen is present, the organic material does not combust. Instead, the chemical compounds that make up the material decompose into combustible gases and char. The produced gases is condensed to give a liquid fuel.

Pyrolysis presents an opportunity to manufacture low- carbon liquid fuels and decrease the emissions of the industry. These fuels are also compatible with our existing transportation infrastructure which eliminates the need to introduce costly new infrastructure. Complete pyrolysis of organic matter usually leaves a solid residue that consists mostly of elemental carbon; the process is then called carbonization.

As we all know, Plastic goods and packaging and the inevitable plastic waste resulting from them are found all over the world. Plastic is a relatively cheap, durable and versatile material. However, as waste it constitutes a sizeable percentage of the litter we see every day in public places. It is also non-biodegradable; presents risks to human health and the environment; and some types are difficult to re-use and/or recycle. Almost 100 million tons per annum are produced every day. So the process of pyrolysis of plastics is attempted to reduce the waste plastics and to find a source for alternative fuel.

This is really quite an invention as it solves the problem of cost of mining oil. It would help reduce the emiison of harmful waste matters into the air which affects our ozone layer. It will prevent issues of oil spilliage and ocean pollution. It'll also create direct and indirect employment as plastics and other waste materials would be sourced for, thereby creating an avenue through which people can earn a living.

Right now, the only hindrance to this machine is that it needs funding from the government, so it can be developed into a large scale model where millions of litres of oil can be produced daily. He can be contacted via email on Tonytopaz1@gmail.com or Facebook with the name Anthony Obikwelu.

https://www.unizikstudents.com/2020/01/10/photos-of-machine-invented-by-unizik-student-that-can-convert-pure-water-nylon-to-fuel

Nice.
But how does he take care of the methane release during pyrolysis of the plastics? I don't see any device that extract the methane. In large prod, this is a disaster waiting to happen.
Whats the source of the heat?
Should have made the machine look nice.

The following can help:
1) have a proper understanding of your topic or what you want to say.
2)arrange your thoughts chronologically like an outline before you speak. That way your thoughts can flow well.
3) know how to breathe properly when speaking.
4) start slow.
5) practice practice practice. Always practice your speech as if you were facing the real audience.

I think it all depends on the requirements of each project. Some project will require you to use PHP, while others will require you to use C#.
The bottom line is that you have a firm grasp of the principles of programming and problem solving.
You can get hired as a backend engineer, and you probably know only C#. If there is a project that requires PHP, you won't tell your boss that you can't do the job because you don't know PHP. You just have to pick up languages as you go.
You are a problem solver.

Op, I agree with your number one point completely!
People should choose their courses of study in line with societal needs. They should not be deceived by those who go with the mantra "it doesn't matter what one studies in the university".
Truth is that you cannot study fishery ( for example) and then expect NNPC to employ you when they have no need for fishery graduates.

The system needs to be reorganized! Vocational and technical education should be emphasized over some courses. Someone who studied graphic designing in a polytechnic or vocational institution is far better than someone who graduated with first-class in chemistry but cannot find a job in the labour market.

I agree 100%. I'd rather hire someone with skills, than someone with loads so certificate who doesn't know what he's doing.
Our school system need a hard reboot.
Emphasis should be placed on equalizing theory (updated knowledge) with practical hands-on knowledge, along with easy access to industry mentors and internships.

2) Server management

5) ISO 27001 information security management systems ( its a standard for managing information assets in an organization).

I believe that's what you need to get into the field.
But going forward you might need:
CEH, CISSP etc depends on what area of security you wanna go into.

Hope this helps

It was not designed to show prospective employers references to ur work. Not every developer needs to use git. There's mercurial and SVN. People should stop this github nonsense cos it's annoying

You shouldn't blame people for minding git. Git is the most popular version control tool around.

He's just trying to say that your story could have had more flesh if you mentioned some awesome stuffs you built in your journey. If I'm to hire you that's what I will be looking out for.

But awesome story you've got though. Tells how passion for something can be a driving force.
Bravo!
