This shows the disparity in moral uprightness and civil aspiration between Stella Oduah's Supporters and the rest of humanity. Success and hard work also has a very different definition with them. Its a shame. It feels like watching cave men on National Geographic channel, its difficult to comprehend how far from reality, these people are. grin grin grin grin
Not really, you all have similar moral values, but suffer from tribalism and bigotry which keep you enslaved by the powers that be. This is the same reason why Area boys will protest and die for politicians who are robbing them blind and youths will carryout similar protests in the North.

I'm afraid you are laughing at your own calamity

eGuerrilla: @Post,

As a number of commentators have already argued, I think, the ultimate panacea to Nigeria problems would be the rebirth of its constituent-nations as independent federations.

Since this option is not on the table, it is with a degree of ambivalence that I tacitly support the confab in the hope that it will produce a new template for regionalism and resource control. At a personal level, anything short of this outcome will militate a return to the trenches.
I agree with you that as a practical matter, the best we can hope for is the production of templates for important issues like regionalism and on-shore resource control. Agreeing on the make-up of constituent nations which could form a confederacy is impractical at this point, as far as I am concerned. I think such talks may breakdown over who will control/own sea ports, air ports, and several other federally controlled infrastructure. Regionalism may be the better baby step to take.

OAM4J: I partly disagree with Sen Okurounmu.

I am not for or against total disintegration of Nigeria, but I am a strong advocate of regionalism, resource control, true-federalism with a weaker and leaner center and regions as federating units.

Since Lugard put us together, discussing the subject has been a 'No go' area. I see no reason why we should be afraid to ask any question. For me the 1st subject we should discuss at the conference is; Do we want to live together as one people? .
Since you watched the video in its entirety, you must have heard Sen. Okurounmu state that those who are advocating the breaking up of the country are fringe groups, much like the skin heads and Texas secessionists of the USA. He stated that not a single group or entity so far, has made any submission which asks the question you posed, let alone propose a breakup. The bottom line is, given Sen. Okurounmu's statements, the issue of breaking up will not be given any consideration.

I repeat that, the power brokers who control our resources and the agenda of the so-called national conference, will never seriously consider breaking up the country since this will be tantamount to suicide on their part. Given this reality, serious minded folks should focus on discussions arround regionalism, resource control, true-federalism with a weaker and leaner center and regions as federating units, as you alluded to above.

Midastouch1: I beg to differ.

While I understand your point that a lot of Ibos and Yorubas live together in peace and even inter-marry but there is a lot of mutual suspicion between both tribes. I am not too sure about the statistics that you have provided but the reality is 3 recent major occurrences have totally changed the equation here: ( This is apart from the historical distortion of the facts of the civil war)

1. The fact that most Ibos supported Patience Jonathan against Wole Soyinka even when they intrinsically knew that he was right in reprimanding her and questioning her excesses - they called him the Old Mad Professor! A man that supported the Biafran cuase during the civil war?

2. The outrageous outburst from Ibos and their leaders during the "deportation" debacle- that was totally unacceptable and stank of hypocrisy considering Ibos had no problems with the "deportation" of Yorubas, Hausas and other ethnic groups from Lagos in the past and the fact that SE states have carried out similar "deportation" exercises.

3.The effrontery by Ibos to refer to Lagos as no mans land is not only insulting but totally disrespectful
Oga, your primary frame of reference, NL, is too narrow and elitist.

gbanikiti: Good! But do you agree with me that those who do not want the country to split are benefiting financially from nigeria because am trying to figure out what you mean by "powers to be".
In addition to the said 'powers that be', we have over 100 million ordinary Nigerians without access to the internet like you and I, who do not support breaking up or war, but prefer to be given more opportunities to cater for their families in peace. They are the silent majority of Nigerians.

gbanikiti: Those who are going to cause the war are those who don't want disintegration,or are there any other reasons why a war could happen? Use the Biafran war as an example.
Those who want disintegration will have to fight the powers that be, and they will be routed in that fight. There will be no breakup without a popular revolution or millitary coup. Tribalism will not allow the revolution to take place in a timely manner.

DerideGull: There people in Diasporas who have lamented about lack of international airport in eastern Nigeria and seemed tired of bringing investors to Nigeria who got scared about their safety on the second leg trip from Lagos to eastern part of country. Today, a lady who has listened and tried to encourage the usage of Enugu airport as a gateway has been besieged with flimsy issue by tribal bigots who do not want the spread of development to other parts of Nigeria but theirs.

I hate the idea of being in Nigeria and see people go through hard times that could have be avoided by simple application of social decorum. I have stopped flying into Lagos and Abuja due to personal reasons and also as an individual protest although my choice of airlines to PH is shamefully limited to two.

It is even disgusted that the local champions whom I considered compound fools thought making money is a ladder to high social status in the society and to sleep with numerous women instead of using the money to make the society a livable place for all.
Nwanne, I feel your pain. But that pain is what I classify as surmountable growing pains. A friend of mine had the same issues with partners he brought from Texas to look into building grain silos. Some how, his foreign partners overcame their fears after building the first silo and raking in millions. They've since returned to build over 25 Silos. On one ocasion they entered Nigeria through Niger republic by road, the incentive was there for them.

We truly need to remove tribalism from the decisions to revamp our airports and yes, I agree with you that the lack of multiple, functioning international airports in the SE is a disgrace and a prime shame.

0lumide: GUY SHUT UP!!!

SNC IS A WAY TO BREAK UP PEACEFULLY!
Be realistic buddy! There are too many powerful forces against disintegration. The President himself will order the summary execution of those of you who are truly bent on disintegration - he will use every force in his power to put tou down. SNC will not work.

I'll advise you to start thinking Arab spring or a coup, if you want to breakup this country. Goodluck on that.

DerideGull: Are still in control of the social orders above your shoulders? Most people in Diasporas have more considerable experience than local champions that are rated below fools in social strata and have not seen an organized lifestyle on earth. I make bold to say most people in Diasporas have solid financial investment the cesspit called Nigeria and had found the geographical expression as dead-end.
ngwanu, join hands and lets rebuild this nation, one step at a time. Calling for integration and constantly calling our dear country cesspit is enough. Your hero, Winstin Churchill, did not contribute to the betterment of the UK from diaspora.

gbanikiti: I can't believe that despite the sufferings and total hardship of vast majority of nigerians, they don't crave for a disintegration. Nigeria is due for disintergration only if will not result to war.
The reason why the first sentence above is false is because the second sentence is not achievable. It is not possible to have any sort of amicable disintegration - breaking up will lead to multiple wars which would cost millions of lives. Sane people will not choose this alternative.
Politics › Re: National Confab: Why We Won’t Discuss Breaking Up Nigeria By Sen. Femi Okurounmu by nduchucks: 7:24pm On Oct 26, 2013
DerideGull: You must be ashamed of yourself for running out of articulated ideas. If you think Nigerians will talk about federalism, what do Nigerians have now, monarchy? It is real funny reading from your crap about regionalism when Nigerians have tried regionalism and usurpers thought it was bad. Only dunces do not know that the issue of off-shore resources has been decided by the highest court in the land. Why should Nigerians talk about state police instead of state army? Are you marginalized?

I guess essence of being bereaved of sound ideas has become second nature to most Nigerians. It is really a pity.
Mr. Gull; hear ye hear ye; Disintegration is off the table!!

gbanikiti: Are your brothers finally ready for the SNC? Have consultations been made to your people at the grassroot if they want it or not because I know the northerners are afraid of a SNC. huh
People keep talking about Sovereign National Conference as if its participants will be pooled from Mars or Jupiter rather than Nigeria. The best we can hope for at the moment is that we take steps in the right direction with the impending constitutional amendment. I submit to you that the vast majority of 162million Nigerians are ready for improvements in the constitution but are not interested in any form of disintegration.

The lazy fools in diaspora who have no vested interest in Nigeria and do not have financial interest over possibly N5million, are the ones who are the internet warriors and noisemakers. I challenge them to come home and champion the disintegration process. lost mumus

DerideGull: Nigerians are full of it. What arrant nonsense is Dr. Femi Okurounmu talking about National Conference would not discuss dismembering of Nigeria? If so, what the hell is national conference going to discuss that could not be handled by NASS? And why did he accept to chair a conference that will not discuss how Nigerians will relate to each other?
If we can not discuss the disintegration of Nigeria peacefully, it then means war is the only option. I guess Nigerians will remember to hold terrible betrayal artists such as Dr. Femi Okurounmu responsible.
i'm glad you have now realized that dismemberment of Nigeria cannot happen without a major war which most Nigerians do not want. If you people are hell bent on carving out biafra, go ahead and declare your secession again and see how far you'll get.

With disintegration off the table, we can focus on realistic issues such as regionalism, state police, federalism, resource control, marginalization of our people, and other important topics - mind you off-shore resources must remain 100% under the feds.

Are you a learner? You people includes you and several other people. You should wear the hat which fits you with pride.

You seem to be suspicious of folks with views which differ from yours to your detriment. I hope I am wrong and respectfully ask you whether you've read Ohaneze's submission to the committee on constitutional review, and also to ask that you share with me, what proposals you'd like to make to the national conference committee if you are opportuned.

I know you will not shy away from the question and believe you have the intellectual capacity to answer fully. I'm all ears.

Afam4eva: Who are "You people"?
You people who equate National Conference to designing a blueprint for breaking up the country and others who believe that their views will not be entertained by the conference organizers.

Since you are desperate to entrap me, I'll let you know that I am not that shy by pointing out that 'You people' also includes closet seccessionists who lost the war and their wish for biafra; but now want to actualize biafra through the back door of national conference.

Why don't you people gather your thoughts and make a submission to the Committee on the review of the constitution, just as Ohaneze has already done? Why are you hell bent on not following rules?
