This kind of insensitive humiliation and mistreatment of these Police officers is uncalled for. This is how they turn otherwise fine officers into vengeful and cold blooded killers. |
Obinoscopy: Funny enough, the bolded are the ones who gets the amnesty and the oil blocks thereafterWell if they give up their weapons and become responsible citizens, that's OK by me. The ones who continue terrorism must be cut down. Do not forget that once any warlord is given amnesty, he must remain under an effective monitoring system. There is method to the 'madness'. |
We have prevailed, common sense has prevailed!!! We've granted amnesty to MEND, we will grant same to deserving BH members. The remaining die hards, MEND or BH should thereafter be dealt with forcefully with drones and full force. Those ones are the real enemies. They must be evaporated. Instead of declaring a "week of emergency" and briningg all major stakeholders to Aso Rock, lock them in a room and find a workable solution to this BH national crisis, our President is waging a media war which will do nothing to resolve the crisis. SMH |
Younger people are supposed to learn from the mistakes of their forefathers. Many of the youths on this thread are hell bent on carrying on with the mistake of bigotry, reportedly exhibited by their predecessors. SMH |

Though Ojuyobo is an Alhaji, he makes sure that he is never addressed with the title. At any rate, Alhaji, the Agba-Akin Adinni of Ijeshaland, the Chief Anosare Bugije of Ondo Kingdom, the Erelu Aare Ago of Egbaland, the Asiwaju of Lagos and the Jagaban Borgu, THE leader and the mouthpiece of the SW, ndu_chuck Hails thee!! |
@pnn20, welcome my brother. There is no need to apologize for a very good article. You did not cause any tribal or clan war. If you've been visiting this forum long enough you would have noticed that 10 - 12 forum members out of over 1 million are always involved in these online/clan wars. They seem to enjoy their mischief because of the anonymity which the forum provides. When the anonymity is removed many of these mumus will find out that they are close relatives, lovers, business partners and even political allies. One University student confessed that he found out that the lady he had a vigorous tribal war with, was actually his fiancee. Imagine that! The Igbo boy and Yoruba girl were madly in love. So, dear author, noting do you, carry go. |
Katsumoto: What do you mean by 'youth theories'?Na this ITK phone turn "your" to "youth". I should have read it and made correction earlier. |
I gbadun the posters here and it is clear that many have very intellectual and academic takes on the issue. Would any of you have concrete ideas as to how to turn your theories to real money. If access to capital is the issue, that can be easily resolved. I'm all ears. |

Ngwakwe: By your description of Bokoboys. Does GEJ has power to grant foreign terrorists amnesty and rehabilitation in Nigerian Soil if the pressure becomes unbearable? When it is convenient for them, opponents of amnesty will use the "ghost" or "foreign terrorist" definition for Boko Haram. Granting amnesty to ghosts or foreign terrorists is essentially foolish and senseless. Nigerian jails are filled with thousands of youths, much like those who were used as foot soldiers by MEND. The FG calls those prisoners BH members and we all know that these are not foreigners or ghosts. An amnesty program is in order and will significantly reduce the killings, much like it is doing in the SS region. Everyone agrees that the most extreme and violent terrorists must be hunted down. |
Ngwakwe: Na waa for them, they have no value for life.Don't let your prejudice get the worst out of you. The story states that "Suspected Fulani herdsmen working in Osu, headquarters of Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State have reportedly killed two persons and injured four others in the town during a clash between them and some natives." Keyword = Suspected. There is no proof whatsoever that the criminals are herdsmen. |

@Katsumoto: Strongly Seconded The title alone should qualify the whole thread for the trash can. |
mikeansy: How do you cripple extremism by rewarding extremist behaviours with and amnesty programmeYou don't cripple extremism by rewarding extremist behaviours with an amnesty program. Most of the currently jailed BH members are essentially political prisoners and/or victims who should be given amnesty just as MEND members were given the same. As I stated earlier, those unrepentant extremists among the BH members, still uncaught, must be hunted down and neutralized - I agree with you that those do not deserve amnesty. |
mikeansy: All Nigerians are faced with the same challenges of corruption, bad governance etcI disagree with you on the characterization that the abject poverty and gross marginalization present in the North are no different from what obtained in the south. I'm sure we agree on the disagreement. Regarding the quoted above, lets hope well meaning people like you will lead the youths in this country to revolt. Sitting idly and allowing extreme elements such as BH hijack the revolution is unhelpful. You should support actions including amnesty which would cripple the extreme and violent elements of our society. |
mikeansy: Abject poverty in the North?People like you who should be demanding that your government ceases the marginalization and abandonment of millions of youths in the North, are here denying the disgrace of a marginalization. It is taking people like Bill Clinton and other respected world leaders to call out the Nigerian government on the issue. You appear to be one of the intellectuals who prefer to bury their heads in the sand and ignore realities, as long as the fallout is not taking place in your neck of the woods. I am almost sure that you have never traveled extensively throughout the North. Visits to far North would give you a better perspective. |
mikeansy: "like it was done for MEND"Call it what you wish, payoff, rehabilitation, amnesty, or whatever. No one can deny the fact that we have had less killings, less disruption of important economic activities in the area, and much more stability, as a result of Yar'Adua's amnesty program, in the area. I and most well meaning Nigerians will pay any price to save the lives of Nigerians and rehabilitate thousands of youths in the North, much like was done in the SS. |
mikeansy: I am pretty sure that if Boko Haram were to lay down their arms today and we dont see any bombings in the next 2years Nigerians will forgive them by default and move on. The last time I checked that has not happened yet.The last time you checked, that has not happened because Boko Haram has not been given the opportunity to lay down their arms, like it was done for MEND. But if the Bishop is suggesting that the Government should provide some kind of payment to Boko haram in order to stop the violence then with all due respect to the Bishop he needs to advise where the money to fund such a programme should come from? He must also advise where Nigeria will find money to pay out the next terror group because after Boko Haram is paid out, another terror group will emerge asking for amnesty too.The problem with the above is that, the bishop is not suggesting that the Government should provide some kind of payment to Boko haram in order to stop the violence. You are therefore responding to statements or 'facts' which you manufactured - no need to tell Kukah anything with or without due respect. |
mikeansy: Anyway thats by the by . . . . . .what does amnesty mean to you Alhaji Ndu_chuks.We seem to be bogged down by semantics. To be honest with you, we probably need to replace the word Amnesty as it relates to the Boko Haram issue, with the phrase "Lasting Solution", in our national discourse. For me, that means, forgiving and rehabilitating BH members who give up their weapons and disavow violence, addressing legitimate concerns of marginalization and the problem of abject poverty in the Northern region, terminating the summary arrest and killings of relatives of suspected Boko Haram members, and isolating the most extreme among their members. Some of the tactics used to put MEND under wraps are surely in order here. This is what Amnesty means to me in this context. It is unreasonable to give amnesty to extremists and murderers who are willing and ready to murder Christians and Muslims alike. Those elements must be hunted down vigorously and eliminated. On the other hand, the vast majority of the prisoners termed Boko Haram members are actually brainwashed victims who were easily converted to foot soldiers primarily because of their states of abject poverty. We need to give these people hope and forgiveness instead of leaving them hopeless and vulnerable to recruitment by terrorists. |
When you say Boko Haram is ready to strike next week, its not clear who/what you mean by Boko Haram. Jails are filled with literally thousands of youths, women, and children, classified as Boko Haram. Most of these prisoners and their counterparts not yet arrested, can be rehabilitated and forgiven and will show remorse if given the opportunity. No one is advocating granting of amnesty to the extreme, violent, and dangerous elements among terrorists. Making a blanket statement that Boko Haram will not be granted amnesty, as GEJ continues to do is irresponsible. Bishop Kukah's perspective is a good one. |
qhiwegh: Is this the same civilised Benin City that saw the entire Muslim quarter burned down, where homes, businesses, and houses of worship were burnt with people still in them? Civilised my black a5$!The accusation in red above is quite serious and if true, the act could only have been carried out by barbaric monsters. However, I wouldn't go as far as generalizing that Binis are monsters. Is this accusation true? |
Yet in an age of high-speed rail, where travel at more than 124 mph is normal, the train to Kano chugs along at 31 mph. That this is celebrated as progress in Nigeria illustrates not only the state of the railways but also the difficulty of effecting real reform in the opaque, state-run sectors of the economy.@bolded: There is nothing to celebrate here. |
How foolish of Eze and his friends to take the views of 1 poster to be representative of a whole Ijaw clan's? |

Aigbofa: Why don't you just tell her you love her instead of insulting her hero? Is that how you woo girls these days?I don't believe you can show that I insulted her hero. I have a right to my opinion. |
Aigbofa: Se nakupenda na South African language? She yab me in Swahili, so I responded with "I love you" in Swahili, to disarm her. ![]() |
