Politics › Re: NL Monthly Political Debate by nduchucks: 12:15am On Oct 13, 2012
@_Negro, The judges have their jobs cut out for them. I wish them well but I still believe that the winner of each debate should be chosen by customary polls which we have used in the past.

After each debate, the judges can then work on a document which itemizes the key points of both sides of the debate for publication here on NL, where the document will be accessible for reference by all and sundry. The output of the debates could serve a greater purpose than we may be willing to envision at the moment.

Katsumoto: First, If judges are meant to be fact checkers, then you may need to constitute a new set of judges for that purpose. That wasn't the intent of selecting the current judges.

Second, I doubt that the mods can ascertain those with multiple Ids most of the time.

Third, democracy is not useful in judging debates. I think a panel of judges should score the debates.
My suggestions are open for discussion and I welcome your views. Regarding your post, the super mods should be able to ascertain people with multiple ids, since, I believe IP addresses can be a basis for banning people.

If voting was useful in selecting you and others as Posters of the year, it should be good enough to declare debate winners. Just my opinion, sha. Whatever is decided is OK by me.

Eziachi: Nice civil debate. But where would you place my one and only dearest daughter then? We (me/mrs) adopted her when she was just six months old from Ethiopia, she is now in her late 30s with my two grandchildren.
Despite raised in Scotland/England, she speak the best of Igbo language you can expect of her, has Igbo name she is proud of, despite married to a Spaniard, her children also bears Igbo second names, cooks Igbo dishes, wear Igbo clothes, knew/call no other place homeland than Igbo land.

She's more Igbo in my opinion than most Igbo parent I knew whose children only Igbo identity is that "my dad says that we are Igbo". grin
This post shows why we respect you so much on NL.

Given the Nigerian factor, it may be wise to use "judges" to work towards moving the debates along smoothly, rather than making judgements one way or the other as to who won or is winning a debate. Judges can be instrumental in acting as fact checkers during the debates.

At the end of each debate, a 5-day poll of NL observers could be used to choose a winner. Moderators/Super mods can ensure that votes cast are valid and multiple ID voters are exposed and dealt with promptly.

A deal to ensure Igbo presidency in 2019 may not be a bad idea. GEJ will not run in 2015, Patience will not allow him to run. Arewa candidates are OK with a single term, come 2015.

DANILSA: A FULANI MAN IS ASKING ME IF IGBO HAS CULTURE AND ALSO DESIGNATING IGBO CULTURE AS SENSELESS, WELL WITHOUT REMORSE AM A TYPICAL IGBO MAN AND ALL IGBOS HERE KNOWS IGBO HAS A RICH CULTURE SO I REFUSE TO ARGUE WITH YOU. IGBO MMANU,RIENU, NUONU, MUONI,ZUONU, KWEZUONU. IGBO WU OFU.
Its OK to run away with your tail tucked in when you have no sensible point to make. The discrimination that is embedded in your mindset is outdated.

DANILSA: THIS TOPIC IS A DIFFICULT ONE, BUT ACCORDING TO IGBO CULTURE IF YOUR FATHER IS NOT AN IGBO MAN YOUR NOT IGBO BUT ONLY RELATED TO IGBOS. NWADIALA, OKENE, SO BILLYONAIRA IF UR FATHER IS NOT IGBO ACCORDING TO IGBO TRADITION UR RELATED TO IGBOS UR NOT IGBO EVEN IF UR MOTHER IS
The bolded above has outlived its usefulness. Which culture and tradition are you referring to, the one designed senselessly? The bolded above will eliminate millions of Igbos from being termed as Igbos is actually silly- this is a senseless idea.

Antivirus92: hahaha! This guy is truly ignorant of igbo culture!
You are wrong, I am fully aware of the culture which allows people like you to discriminate and dehumanize other Igbos. The cultural Osu caste system comes to mind. Fortunately, Igbos who think like you are slowly becoming extinct.

Billyonaire: Whats the meaning of nwadiala/nwadiana ?
This is the type of balderdash I referred to as balony, in my previous post. Being labelled nwadiala/nwadiana does not make you less Igbo, other Igbos will however try to label you and use that label to discriminate against you.
Culture › Re: Who Is An Igbo/what Makes Someone An Igbo? by nduchucks: 12:49pm On Oct 12, 2012
Billyonaire: Both my paternal and maternal grand mums are Igbos, so are you authoritatively saying I am IGBO ?
You are indeed an Igbo, but that does not mean that you lose our identity or affiliations with other ethnic groups. This idea of "pure" igbo is nothing but a bunch of balony, put forth by the saddists among us.

It is important to note that one can be an Igbo while maintaining other affiliations and relationships with other ethnic groups. As an illustration, one could be a midwest Igbo, Hausa Igbo, Yoruba Igbo, Ikwerre Igbo e.t.c These characterizations do not make one less of an Igbo.

He said they beat students who they see at late hours coming from class, and generally behave anyhow

The guy is also said to have been the richest guy in ALUU that is how he got his kingship or whateva useless title

I believe the Alhaji hassan is culpable in murder.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)’s sewage tanker was on official assignment when it got stuck after fallen into drainage at about 8.30pm on Tuesday night in the taxiway of General Aviation Terminal (GAT), Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos caused a minor damage to the aircraft.
Why in the world was an open drainage, with orifices large enough to get a sewage tanker stuck, doing anywhere near a taxiway huh It could have been a plane trying to take off which got stuck causing another major disaster!! SMH

Politics › Re: Is It Too Late For Nigeria? by nduchucks: 1:24pm On Oct 10, 2012
Dede1: It is not only “too late for Nigeria” but at the point of no return. Nigeria is akin to a house built on sandy foundation. Any house built on sandy soil must crumble. The so-called founding fathers of the cesspit called Nigeria never believed in the unity of the country as evidenced from the videos and speeches accredited to some of them. There is no doubt the actions of some of the so-called founding fathers led the civil war that seemed to have no end in sight.

One of the best things that will happen to Nigerians is disintegration of colonial contraption called Nigeria which will usher new country and beginning to citizens of nation states that will emerge.
I knew you would not be able to resist posting on this thread. Nwanne m, come back home and help built a great nation.

Winston Churchill did not lead the UK to greatness from a hideout in diaspora, he was a selfless leader. Mandela did not become great by hiding out in diaspora bad mouthing his country, he stayed in the trenches and helped build his nation. e. t. c.

Nuff said.

UNVEILING THE 10 WISE- MENPEOPLE !!!

After 48 hours of extensive deliberation on and off this thread, taking into consideration popular opinion as well as our educated discretion, we have come up with this list as our Standing Pool of Judges:

1, COOGER: Cooger has been on Nairaland for more than 4 years and has been a valuable member of the forum, contributing to different topics in different sections. He brings to the table versatility and experience. He is also well-known for his command of the queen’s language

2, SISI_SKILL: Sisi_skill is well experienced in judging online debates, being on board of the panel of judges that successfully executed the Literary section debate in July 2012. She has been active on Nairaland for many years and understands the dynamics of the forum and psyche of the members.

3, AJANLEKOKO: Highly sought-after Ajanlekoko is Nairaland’s resident career consultant. He is a respected voice on many issues and not known for frivolities. We expect Ajanlekoko to bring to bear his acclaimed maturity and expertise in multi-disciplinary matters and critical thinking.

4, EZIACHI: Eziachi is a Nairaland veteran and one of the encyclopedias of Nigerian political history on Nairaland. He is a well-respected figure in this section. It is this rich background in political knowledge that Eziachi brings to the team.

5, PHYSICSQED: Physics is one of the most cerebral political analysts on Nairaland. He is also well known for his fact-based debating skills, a tool that will be useful as a judge in this programme.

6, E-GUERILLA: e-Guerilla is another well-respected intellectual on Nairaland. He adds to the team analytical depth.

7, IBIME: Ibime has been on Nairaland for more than 5 years and has continued to add value to debates from his repertoire of knowledge and experience. He brings balance to the team, as the other 9 wise men.

8, Ogugua88: Ogugua is well known for the logic of her analyses and presentation. She will be useful in spotting the logic of arguments in our monthly debates.

9, LONDONER: The lady from London is a leading intellectual on Nairaland, adding candour and colour to threads. We have so much confidence in her ability to dispassionately dissect arguments in his judgment.

10, TALINA: In my brief citation on the 9 judges above we have left out their tribe and region of origin for obvious reasons, but we are safe to introduce Talina as a Canadian. Talina brings international flavour and insight into the team.

We do hope our judges will justify the confidence reposed in them as unbiased umpires.

Ladies and gentlemen, join me in wishing these TEN-WISE MENPEOPLE success in the assignment.
Fixed: People, NLers, Judges, etc will do. No one would want his babe referred to as a wise man. lipsrsealed
Politics › Re: Your Take On The Calibre Of People In The Flood Committee? by nduchucks: 2:21pm On Oct 09, 2012
As ususal, a minimum of well fortified 40 Jeeps (SUVs) will be purchased right away for each committee member for touring the disaster area (Their budget is almost N18billion). Lets hope 50% of the funds are actually spent on flood relief.

I'd strongly recommend that for each committee, with a budget of N1billion or more, formed by the President, an empowered audit committtee which will monitor spending and report on a monthly basis, be also formed.

These committees have stolen more money that you people can imagine.

Please help me understand peace loving.[/quote]Dudu_Negro,

The Yorubas pride themselves in the respect for tradition and wisdom of elders. To say that the Omoluabi phenomenon is a handicap and an impotence is not what is expected of a proper Yoruba man who is an omoluabi. Don't make the same mistake currently being associated with Ikemba, by some critics. You people are not equiped or ready for the kind of violence you seem to be calling for.

This enmity, hatred, and outright mutually destructive and uncivilized relationship between the Ndigbo and Yoruba people defies logic and is rooted in more than Awo vs Achebe imbroglio.

Would knowledgeable historians be kind enough to point out the real genesis of this affair?
