Fair enough. Just wait about 20 years to pull out the ladder from underneath me Or, alternatively if electricity starts running 24/7, then you can boost derivations from 13% to even as high as 75%, if you like. Which that running, I can find an alternate (and more lucrative) revenue resource pretty easily.
This bolded is the koko of the matter. 100% resource control is ideal, but no advanced nation including the USA allows the states 100% control. Having said that, it is impossible to simply allow the states 75 or 100% control because of the practical effect of complete chaos and decimation of a few states which could lead to war.The tragedy of the matter is that those who are clamouring for 100% resource control are the ones championing GEJ's candidacy while ignoring the fact that he will not get us any closer to true federalism or 75-80% resource control than Buhari, whose fight against corruption would lead to the kind of development that would ultimately allow for 80 - 100% resource control. |
Beaf:I'm sure you are free to ignore my post if you think I'm purposely here to derail the thread. I'm actually enjoying the discussion of the thread. I will not hesitate to offer sound/good advice to your likes if I think it will help. Now run along and build a fishing industry in the ND - the profit from such ventures are better than monthly payments to appease oil bunkerers, thugs, and kidnappers. P.S. In case you don't know, the Atlantic ocean is very far away from Lake Chad, olodo |
jason123:It should be quite easy to convince a local fisherman who cannot catch enough fish to feed his family because of the said oil spills to become a commercial fisherman - especially if he'll catch more fish and make more money. What is stopping local entrpreneurs from developing this industry? We know the governors are thieves. |
I'm just suggesting that 100% resource control say tomorrow will have a pretty negative impact on lots of states which don't have oil. An increase in derivation is fine; a 20 year plan to phase it out completely is fine too.But. . . don't pull out the ladder from underneath me while I'm changing the lightbulb. If you tell me I have 10 minutes to use the ladder, I can prepare.
I don't disagree with the bolded above. I'm not sure which position of mine you find unreasonable. |
jason123:Most Nigerians understand that the common people of the ND and the almajiris are the most marginalized Nigerians. We all should be ashamed of the plight of these people. Now, your governors have received over $100billion in the past few years. Do you know how many local fishermen could have been employed if only a minute portion of the funds were used to develop the fishing industry? You people could be supplying fish to all of Africa and beyond while employing hundreds of thousands of local fishermen. Where does the buck stop? |
Beaf:I will not participate in your customary diversionary tactics. It is up to you and your leaders to use my suggestion to your advantage. Learn how to generate billions from the fishing industry and stop hiding behind oil spills in order to line up and collect welfare. ![]() |
jason123:What fishing industry are you talking about? The last time I checked there has not been a major oil spill which destroyed and killed the fish in the atlantic ocean! How many ocean going liners dedicated to fishing, crabbing, lobster harvesting do you have in the region? Which oil spillage destroyed this virgin industry as far as your region is concerned. I think you people are better off developing in these areas than to keep depending on handouts from the government. Lazyiness is partly responsible for your demise. |
Beaf:If Nigeria splits, is a BIG IF, so I will not entertain that line of thought for now. What else have you and your governors done with the billions of dollars received to date? Have you developed your agric sector, for example? No, you people were starving because of onion shortage a few weeks ago. All you have excelled in to date is oil bunkering and receiving welfare checks from primarily, offshore oil. olodo What is GEJ's plan to cure the country of the Dutch disease? Oshiomhole's idea is well grounded and well thought-out. Your idea that Nigeria can't survive without oil is the concept that need to be expunged from the brains of you people. Many poor welfare recepients in the USA also believe that they cannot survive without the monthly check. You continue to forget that we ran your governments with groundnut proceeds in the past. |
Let the lazy people from the so-called South South clamouring for 100% resource control be reminded that 90 - 95% of all crude exported out of Nigeria in the last 10 years is from offshore. Even with your 100% resource control, you will still remain poor due to your laziness and the continuous theft of your leaders such as Ibori and governors. Now, the 90% export from offshore belong to all of us, shikena! You people who disagree with Oshiomhole appear to be narrow minded. |
The game is up for the riggers of old, they are now accusing Jega of being planted by the US and CPC Here's the real reason why GEJ apologists are trying to discredit Jega: Buhari, who addressed newsmen at the Benin Airport on his way to Anambra State, said the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to postpone the election was a blessing in disguise, as it revealed the plot by the PDP to rig the election as they had allegedly done in the past. |
Beaf:Why would anyone want to derail a thread which exposes such stupidity of some of you people? Nigerians a very brilliant and sharp. A person who could be tricked into nominating a INEC chairman as the thread's topic suggests, does not deserve the position of the President of our great country. We don't need any mumu as our head of state. You are making it easier for undecided folks to write GEJ off. |
@papadonkee, err you seem to hold this Miss(or Mrs or MS) Anenih is very high regards. In fact your defense of her so far has been impressive. I for one, am not so sure that this lady is not an opportunist and user, who makes it easy for people to think she is crooked. why she still keep dat last name (after divorcing over 10 years ago) if no be say she wan use am for political (monetary) benefits? Just asking o. |
A whole bunch of boondoggle projects in the making. May Buhari kill these projects. |
Beaf:lawyer ko, rabble rouser ni. ![]() In a few days, we'll have the 'rational' Beaf who we used to tame with superior arguments and assorted thrashing. The mind of the Beaf you have today has been beclouded and corrupted by desperate wish to see his tribesman become the President of Nigeria. olodo, rakumin dajij. |
May I remind those who may have forgotten about Jonathan's statements on Jega's appointment: When we nominated Prof. Attahiru Jega as the INEC Chairman, some members of our party came to me asking, ‘Jonathan do you want PDP to win these elections?‘ |
@papadonkee, I threw you a low blow but you absorbed it quite well unlike some weaklins around here. Since you are not ashamed to be associated with PDP, aren't you tired of hiding ya head since PDP messes up on a daily basis? Would you be kind enough to give me an insider's explanation of what Jonathan used all the excess crude money to purchase? Na who dey actually rule naija as we speak, I no think say na GEJ at all, as per ya inside info, abeg tell me who dey control the remote. |
If one person is spending over N1billion to be elected to the senate, I wonder how much he stands to gain once in the senate. In another development, findings revealed that the three senatorial candidates of the PDP who are battling for their political relevance in the state might have lost close to N3.5 billion last Saturday alone. |
Very good. These rogues were planning to rig by buying votes but did not know what providence had in stock for them, they are now crying ![]() Having heard the pronouncement of the National Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, that the election slated for last week Saturday had been postponed till Monday, a candidate for the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), (name withheld) from Osun Central Constituency feared collapsed, shouting: “I’m finished, my money has gone”.cont'd |
Alj Uche:haba aboki na! Do you want to break my ribs? |
Day by day, night by night, it is becoming clearer that political jobbers have infested NL. It actually could be a good thing. I dey watch una one by one. Papadonkee, wetin be ya own position, na who dey pay lawyer fees to you? I must say, you are holding ya own - carry go. ![]() |
Musiwa is probably right about his Yoruba people in Benin. This artists Kidjo is singing a song that has been song in yorubaland for ages. Its about Babalawo, though Kidjo titled the song Babalao. This notion that Buhari rejected Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is quite suspicious. Other sources claim that it was Ngozi herself who turned down each offer of VP to here. Here is an account given by Ribadu: Why Ngige, Okonjo-Iweala were dropped:Read the rest of the story here: http://dailytrust.dailytrust.com/index.php?Itemid=104&id=69:its-time-up-for-jonathan-and-pdp&option=com_k2&view=item |
Seun:Thanks for reiterating the above point. I think their finding that 53% of Nigerians believe that GEJ is likely to win the election is very plausible and probably quite accurate. I personally believe that more than 53% of us expect the PDP to rig as usual, hence the concomitant expectation of GEJ's success at the election. |
PapaBrowne:You already have sharia courts in the SW. Don't fall into the trap of politicans who are trying to use religion as a way of keeping you subservient. You seem to be are afraid of what you don't understand. I challenge you to read the article whose link I posted above. |
PapaBrowne:First of all, I disagree with the bolded statement above - only time will tell which analysis is correct. I agree with you that we have a potential national security issue that should indeed be discussed in depth. If GEJ wins in a free and fair election, I don't see any reason to worry - I do not believe GEJ can win under this scenario. In my humble opinion, if GEJ is declared the outright winner of this election, chaos and possible war may break out because of the reaction from dissatisfied youths. I hope I am wrong. The best outcome would be one that neccesitates a runoff between GEJ and Buhari - this runoff could then become our model for the future. |
I don't really have much time to educated ignorant bigots who are posting rubbish here. It suffices to say that sharia courts have existed in Northern Nigeria before late 60s and early 70s when xtians and moslems lived together peacefully. Sharia courts are currently present in several states in the SW - there are at least 8 in Oyo state. Do your research before coming here to expose your ignorance. The city of Lagos currently has a Sharia court that pertains to civil and legal matters concerning Muslims in the city, though the state does not recognise its rulings as binding, much like the Sharia court in the United Kingdom. Interested parties can learn one or two things from this paper titled: The Institution Of Sharia in Oyo and Osun states, Nigeria 1890 - 2005 ===> http://www.sharia-in-africa.net/media/publications/the-institution-of-sharia-in-oyo-and-osun-states-nigeria/makinde-thesis.pdf |
PapaBrowne:Indeed. More importantly, the voters who make up the bulk of the mamoth crowds at BB rallies are not included in the polls either, for obvious reasons. I'm sure GEJ and PDP fully understand that massive rigging will not be accepted by Nigerians this time around. Note additionally that a subtantial percentage of BB supporters who show up at CPC rallies are unemployed youths, many of who cannot afford decent meals/housing, talk less fees to access the internet. These are the same or similar groups of people who have brought Mubarak and others to their knees. Anyone who thinks the kind of revolt taking place in Libya cannot happen in Nigeria should think again. If GEJ and PDP rig this elections, even the millitary will not come to the aid of GEJ and his thieving buddies. When the kinds of crowd which have become symbolic of BB rallies, match to the national assembly and Aso rock, then it will dawn on these desperate politicians that, its a new day in Nigeria. Foolish GEJ and his thieving friends may lead Nigeria to hell sai Allah ya tamaike mu. |
The GEJ and PDP political jobbers are well advised to try and convince the milllions of voters, many of who cannot read or write, not to vote for the BB ticket as planned. GEJ has already lost the votes of most well meaning, internet using Nigerians. We all know that GEJ and his gang will attempt to rig the elections because not doing so may ultimately land many of GEJ's PDP associates in jail when Buhari takes over. If the election resultd do not call for a run off or GEJ wins by a land slide, I'm afraid Nigeria may burn this time around, to the extent that the millitary may be forced to step in to conduct a more credible election. |
Onlytruth:shatap dia!! Many of my relatives belong to various ethnic groups and some will suffer from any violent action against Ndigbo. These relatives are Nigerians and remain my people regardless of what bigots like you would like to believe. Olodo, rakumin dajij. |
naijaking1:I agree with the above. I hope the desperation of PDP, lead by GEJ to continue ruling this country, will not lead to unnecessary disaster. When I registered to vote, no one asked me for my tribe and anyone familiar with the software used to capture registration data will tell you that it contains no variable or data element used to capture tribal information. INEC has not made the registration data available to any organization for mining or other analysis. Anyone who is claiming or insinuating that the Igbos make up 40% or any other percentage of the electorate in any region is a gaddem liar and trouble maker. It is an insult to the Igbo race to assume that the Igbos will vote en mass for GEJ. My own personal prayer is that, if GEJ must win, may his margin of victory be very thin. If GEJ wins by a landslide, I'm afraid their will be bloodshed, not because GEJ would have won, but because of the kinds of lies and missinformation being spread by PDP machinations at this moment. My Igbo brethren need to shine their eyes very well, GEJ will make our people scape goats for his own sins. I hope GEJ handlers who are reading this, remember de tin wey our people talk, i.e. akwuru oto nuwa nwanyi ime , omuta onye anya adighi mma (if a woman is impregnated standing up , she is will give birth to a useless/wayward person ). |
