Bashr, stop your bigotry and make yourself valuable in society. Do you recognize of the players in that billiards game? Locate them.

BTW, emerging information suggests that the policeman was not in fact Hausa or a Muslim but Tiv and a Christian; yet igbos were killing innocent Hausas for his crime.
. . . you are kidding, right? Igbo slaughtered the wrong people you mean? I dont believe it!

A request has been submitted to Admin in Nairaland/general section for a Yoruba History home. Add your voice to the initiative. The idea was proposed by Isale Gan. Here is link. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-868158.0.html#msg10169821 Thanks.

Is that the best you have for response? Creek dummy! angry Gej should fire your a s s if indeed you work for him. Are you a Nigerian? I have my doubts about your nationality. Nigerians are not this dumb.

Im interested in this pic. . . . look at the intensity on this game. If this guy can use crooked and unpolished sticks to pocket rough-edged seed crops rolling on an uneven table surface, I wonder what he can achieve in accuracy and precision of play when tooled with advanced equipments.

Does anyone here know this guy? Id love to raise awareness on his behalf and get a pool table and equipment donated to him in that village. I am a billiard player and I am impressed with his ingenuity!

Respond if you know the dude please.

Beaf,

How is it that on Soyinka you can connect so many disparate dots together and exhibit them as a contingent family but when it comes to politics and Gej's Presidency you are lost and often buried in the cloud of multitude arrowheads, all issuing from the same bow of strike and eliminate effort to capsize his boat? Who do you work for. . . or perhaps, I should ask, what do you understand? cool
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints Here by NegroNtns(m): 11:06pm On Feb 10, 2012
You are asking for Yoruba section? Not even general history section? Hope you know we have more than 250 ethnics in Nigeria. Well that is beyond my powers.

Whatever you want, I will recommend you start with a library thread. Let's see how many history threads are created daily. then you can make a case for a section.
Yes, a Yoruba History container, that's right!  How many of these 250 ethnic groups has the depth and broadness of histroy as Yoruba, particularly for a race of people that fought over 30 different wars and created world renowned empires - Ife, Oyo and Bini?  You see this is one of the damages and disadvantages of cohabiting in Nigeria with inferior sub cultures crowned overnight and made a majority by British.  We have always to ret/ard our own progress because the others are not caught on yet,  . . they are still in the dark, and untill they see the light, we have to remain in the dark with them.  I want my own country!   grin  grin
PoliticsRe: The Yoruba Kiriji Wars (1877 - 1893) by NegroNtns(m): 10:52pm On Feb 10, 2012
Thanks, will address it to the Admin.

Unfortunately bringing the next Yoruba war to my homeland is same as bringing it to your homeland. You, Isale_gan2 and I are from Lagos. I am proudly from Epetedo. Eko o ni baje
What part in Epetedo? My mother is from Epetedo and I spent part of my childhood there with my grandparents. Always going between Isale Eko and Epetedo, from Abari in Epetedo to Ebute Ero in Isale Eko. . . I owned that whole sector. grin It was hard getting in trouble because almost everybody knew my parents and almost always reported my mischiefs.

On Isale Gan, thanks for letting me know and I hope you did not miss where she said she and I might be related. grin
PoliticsRe: The Yoruba Kiriji Wars (1877 - 1893) by NegroNtns(m): 10:14pm On Feb 10, 2012
Just want to mention to people using google to search contents about Oyo. There were varieties of spellings used by Europeans that could not articulate the name properly. Try the following: Awyaw Kingdom, Awyaw Empire, Awyo Kingdom, Owyo Kingdom, and so on.
PoliticsRe: The Yoruba Kiriji Wars (1877 - 1893) by NegroNtns(m): 9:43pm On Feb 10, 2012
Isale Gan, You had a good idea with that proposal and I support it. As you see, its gaining support. OAM4J's response is a pushback and of course, is expected as part of negotiating. Dont worry bro, we are behind you. wink I will fire OAM4J if he doesnt make this initiative happen for us. grin In fact, I tell you what. . . I will personally take the next Yoruba war to his homeland. Somebody tell me how much swords cost these days, I need a double edged! cool

Quote from: OAM4J on Today at 08:32:05 PM

There is no need to have History section when there is a Culture section. I doubt that request will be granted. So don't waste your time.

It should not be a waste of time.
i second the request and hope it will be carefully and positively considered by Seun either as a completely separate section or as a mini-section under culture, at the least.
We can try and make a case for having some of the threads in Politics section possibly with the library thread. What am not sure will sell is having history section.

Reaching the target market is a better argument than the claim of history being closer related to politics than culture. Not many people will agree with that.
OAM4J,

If you read responses on this thread you will no doubt understand the sentiments and the awakening it has generated.  I want you to be open, please do not premeptively shut down the idea.  True, some sections are collapsing into more popular and bigger channels on NL but that decision is probably for context and structure, rather than consumption.  This initiative will be for the consumption and education of the race.  Look at the audience in here. . . we have politicians, historians, writers, lawyers, doctors, administrators, bankers. . . and so on.  I am yet to read a Yoruba respondent that did not enjoy or take pride in this Kiriji topic.  Tony Spike, God Bless you!

There are ideas to open more topics and discuss history. . . .How did the heavy losses in war affect gender balance in society and the resulting kinship and social supports? What were the military formations - Balogun, Otun Balogun, Osi Balogun. . and so on?  what does Aare Ona Kakanfo mean and what was the origin of it?  Kakanfo must be a place. . .where is it?    What does Araba mean and where is the origin of it?  Ogboni is our traditional judicial system and its a lodge. . . . what is the creed of their order  and why?   Now that Ifa and Yoruba culture has spread worldwide is there value to promoting a pilgrimage in Yorubaland?   Through these discussions can we bridge understanding and closeness with Yorubas in Cuba, Brazilil, Puerto Rico, Miami, Carolina and other places who are hungry to know more about their ancestral home?

Like Katz said, there is a market. . . . and the Yoruba crowd in here are the suppliers, we are only needing a storefront from where the inter-exchange can take place.  You and your fellow moderators and Seun as well, have the power and discretion to give us that storefront.

Here is the format we are requesting:   Nairaland Forum > Nairaland General >  Yoruba History.
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints Here by NegroNtns(m): 8:54pm On Feb 10, 2012
Are we expecting to have Yorubas Oba I of Nairailand ? Cant wait  for that. And hopefully we will have Hausa Emir of NL etc like we have Eze Ndigbo I of Nairaland.

Sure you can have a thread title "Library of Yoruba Historical Threads"  or something like that. But I think it will be more appropriate to have such library in culture section
OAM4J,

If anyone would be Ooni or Alaafin of Yorubaland in Nairaland, of course you know it will be me, Negro.   grin   Jokes apart, No sir, far from it!

Instead of a historical sub in "culture", would it not be more direct and meaningful to have, say, a new container navigable in the path Nailraland Forum > Nairaland General > Yoruba History?   This container will then house the collections.

Thank you for looking into this.  grin
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints Here by NegroNtns(m): 12:06am On Feb 10, 2012
REQUEST TO OAM4J or JARUS.

Based on numerous feedbacks from diverse subscribers and friends on NL of Yoruba ancestry, particularly from the Yoruba in diaspora, it has become necessary that we take a next step action in creating a highly visible repository for indexing educative materials that share on the history, culture and philosophy of the Yoruba race and its commonwealth of Nations.

At the moment, NL has become one of the central points online for analysing and converging our ideas and knowledge on Yoruba history.  We love that and are indeed grateful to you for accomodating our interest and tolerating our sometimes heated opinions. Your past support on this portal has made it possible for many of us to learn and acquire new knowledge about our history that would not have been so easily done otherwise.  That support is very valuable and we honor it.  We come to you now for assist.

We currently have materials scattered in different channels of the forum - politics, culture, religion, family and so on, and we would like to index them and those created in future in a single point of access.  We will nominate a moderator amongst us to manage and update collections in the index.

We await a favorable response from you.  grin

I think I will ask OAM4J or Jarus to see what they can do for us in this regard. It will be a central collection of highly valuable and informational materials dealing strictly with the race.

If they decide to disappear from the radar, it is their perogative but there unborn generations will suffer the consequences and not the current selfish people with no long term vision parading themselves as leaders.
reallyhuh Should you not be wishing them goodluck to their future? . . . instead of threatening the future of their progeny
PoliticsRe: Great Leaders In Nigeria's History Before Total Colonisation by NegroNtns(m): 9:42am On Feb 09, 2012
. . . or better yet start a new and distinct thread outlining all Yoruba wars. Do you know how many wars Yorubas fought? Im surprised we are still in existence. lol! It will be good to know if there is any other African people that has fought that many wars as the Yorubas. Combined. . . they would probably be 30 or more.
PoliticsRe: Attention All Igbos by NegroNtns(m): 8:33am On Feb 09, 2012
LOL, you must be blind. Even in the states, in places like houston where many igbos live, we are known to be tall, muscular men. White americans beg igbo parents to have their sons play sports at local high schools and universities. They pass up on yorubas everyday and see yall as weaklings. This is something that a white man told me and I was shocked when he said it. I even tried to stick up for you people against his comments because I don't accept a white man saying anything against black people in general.

Here is the number 1 American football player in the country, Igbo boy:

http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2012/02/07/robert-nkemdiche-the-circus-begins-for-the-nations-no-1-overall-prospect/

At 17, he is 6 foot 5 inch and 270 pounds, fast and strong
In Chinese families everyone is short, sons that stand at 5'11" are worshipped.  He is a gene carrier for next generation of tall sons. He gets what he wants and wealthy families come calling with marriage prospect for their gorgeous daughters. A son born short in that same family gets no attention. So I understand your obsession with tall and light skin.

I understand your position my friend.  Yoruba does not have scarcity of dongo.  What I can't understand is the highlited above.  Do you know the history of Yoruba and Houston?  There was a dongo there called The Dream! Matter of fact Houston allowed ibos into their sports because we we were good ambassadors before your arrival.  Anyway, leave it crime free so Houston can continue to welcome next wave of Nigerian athletes. Who knows, it might be another dongo tribe. . .the Hausa/Fulanis or even the Kanuris.
PoliticsRe: The Old Lagos In Pictures by NegroNtns(op): 8:01am On Feb 09, 2012
Rossik,

Do not use this post to vent your resentment against Nigerian govt or British colonialists. . . . neither of them is focus of post. You barged in posting skyscrapers as indicators of greatness. . . .and now you are grabbing at straws for population density. Besides, who told you quality education is only attainable in univeristy? Oh my God, can Nigeria please break up quick so we can send some paupers out of Lagos and back into their dark age hamlets? grin We dont need people that come to worship skyscrapers and sea crafts and landscape glamor.

I am suspecting you migrated to Lagos from some hamlet that just got added on the electric national grid in 1995. You are easily impressed by the vanity of Lagos. Those born and raised in it deplore what they live in today compared to what it was before your jjc legs waka enter Lagos.

Contribute pictures. . . this is about appreciating old Lagos. If you want view of new Lagos. . . open a new topic for yourself and demonize or praise govt on that.
PoliticsRe: The Yoruba Kiriji Wars (1877 - 1893) by NegroNtns(m): 7:41am On Feb 09, 2012
First, Aigbofa, thanks for your word. cheesy I wanted to include in last post and forgot.

Isale_Gan, I agree that pre-colonisation post is a very good read. A summary collection of heroes, very good and instructive. You know what, is it possible that we can have an index repository containing links to these highly valuable topics? So there is a single point for the record keeping, instead of scattered all over.

Personally, I think Akintola's error of political judgement ought to be forgiven by Yorubas in every camp. We must ask if his betrayal was out of character with what the Aare position has become notorious for doing - rebelion against the land? We have to go withe precedence. Has not Afonja been forgiven for his own betrayal in Ilorin? Has not Abiola been forgiven for his own dilly dallying with North? Maybe its time to bury the leopard skin and retool the Aare title and its meaning for our land in contemporary terms.

@Negro_Ntns
@Katsumoto

I have learnt a lot about Yoruba history from you guys

I never knew we were this great - I always had the impression that the greatest civilizations in West Africa were Ghana, Mali and Songhay

Thanks guys
ehnn, Negro ke . . . niwaju Katz! shocked

With great pleasure Shymmex, whatever I can share. . . in fact, whatever we all can share and learn from one another. I have learnt a lot from the great Katz, and as well from many others here on NL. Katz is the database here and he will bring you facts with dates and reference and authors and the publisher and all that. No joke, he is that detailed, and very smart.

On many occassions he had set a trap and got me cornered for a horrifying beating online. . . . but I learnt long ago to write in aniticipation of an encounter with him. . .I know how to slip out of his chokehold. grin Most of what I write on Yoruba history come from direct contact with custodians who shared the narratives and wisdom in oral form. I am blessed to have come in contact with many, not just on Yoruba history but also Hausa and Fulani. Particularly, Im versed in Yoruba esotericism and alchemy of the elements.

Hey, if you have not already done so, I should recommend these topics for you to read in culture section -
1. Ife Bronze Heads and 2. Yoruba Architecture. I guarantee, you will love them.
