I still maintain my stand that the funds embezzled by this administration alone would sustain nigeria till the next 4years without touching a dime from the oil sector and others. While it is true that those who haven't been to the north will have no idea of the rot up there, your claim of a second class in north challenging a first class from south is folly, because the northerner always lag behind in every merit based federal programme.

Health › Exercise 'not Key To Obesity Fight' - Experts by neocortex(op): 10:19am On Apr 23, 2015
Physical activity has little role in tackling obesity - and instead public health messages should squarely focus on unhealthy eating, doctors say.
In an editorial in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, three international experts said it was time to "bust the myth" about exercise.
They said while activity was a key part of staving off diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and dementia, its impact on obesity was minimal.
Instead excess sugar and carbohydrates were key.
The experts, including London cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra, blamed the food industry for encouraging the belief that exercise could counteract the impact of unhealthy eating.

Dr Aseem Malhotra, Cardiologist
They even likened their tactics as "chillingly similar" to those of Big Tobacco on smoking and said celebratory endorsements of sugary drinks and the association of junk food and sport must end.
They said there was evidence that up to 40% of those within a normal weight range will still harbour harmful metabolic abnormalities typically associated with obesity.
But despite this public health messaging had "unhelpfully" focused on maintaining a healthy weight through calorie counting when it was the source of calories that mattered most - research has shown that diabetes increases 11-fold for every 150 additional sugar calories consumed compared to fat calories.
And they pointed to evidence from the Lancet global burden of disease programme which shows that unhealthy eating was linked to more ill health than physical activity, alcohol and smoking combined.
'Unscientific'
Dr Malhotra said: "An obese person does not need to do one iota of exercise to lose weight, they just need to eat less. My biggest concern is that the messaging that is coming to the public suggests you can eat what you like as long as you exercise.
"That is unscientific and wrong. You cannot outrun a bad diet."

There is no requirement for people with treatable health problems to get help under the current system
But others said it was risky to play down the role of exercise. Prof Mark Baker, of the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence, which recommends "well-balanced diets combined with physical activity", said it would be "idiotic" to rule out the importance of physical activity.
A Food and Drink Federation spokeswoman said: "The benefits of physical activity aren't food industry hype or conspiracy, as suggested. A healthy lifestyle will include both a balanced diet and exercise."
She said the industry was encouraging a balanced diet by voluntarily providing clear on-pack nutrition information and offering products with extra nutrients and less salt, sugar and fat.
"This article appears to undermine the origins of the evidence-based government public health advice, which must surely be confusing for consumers," she added.

Politics › Scrap N100bn Foreign Scholarships by neocortex(op): 3:19pm On Apr 20, 2015
The Commonwealth Youth Council has urged the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to abolish foreign scholarships in the country after he assumes office on May 29.

In a statement issued by the CYC chairperson, Ahmed Adamu, in London on Saturday, the council said close to N100bn is spent on foreign scholarships annually by the Federal Government.

According to Adamu, who is also an economic expert, the expenditure had resulted in the abuse of the naira and triggered devaluation of the currency.

He said, “This figure is extremely higher when adding the cost of other self-sponsored foreign education programmes and I am using this medium to call on the Nigerian President-elect to consider this as one of the immediate policies he will adopt in the first 100 days in office.

“Nigerians and other internationals studying in United Kingdom contribute 2.3 per cent to Britain’s Gross Domestic Product growth and their patronages contribute 2.6 per cent to the overall UK employment. How different are foreign universities from Nigerian universities?

“We may talk about access to energy, Information Technology, resources, facilities, conducive atmosphere and efficiency, but all these can be provided in all Nigerian universities with the savings that will eventuate from abolishing foreign scholarships. If you divide N100 billion by the number of federal universities, you will see that each university will get N2.5 billion a year.”

On a more serious note

Truth is election in any part of the world is impossible to run without money. (Although not the way money is changing hands in Nigeria esp pdp) but then again considering we are fighting for change, den the money should be rightly accounted for.
Your attempt to point fingers will fail, we were made to believe that APC didn't spend much , that they relied on 78 million naira donated by supporters. Now tell me where the hell did only akwaibom get 350 million from ?
This is probably a fraction of the amount allocated to akwaibom.

Politics › Ekiti APC Lawmakers Insist On Fayose’s Impeachment by neocortex(op): 1:17pm On Apr 16, 2015
The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers in Ekiti State House of Assembly have vowed to go ahead with the impeachment proceedings against Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The embattled Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, has forwarded a notice of gross misconduct to the governor and his deputy, Dr. Olusola Eleka.

Omirin has also requested the Chief Judge of Ekiti, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, to raise a seven-man panel to investigate the two over allegations of impunity, violence and stalking, among other constitutional breaches levelled against them.

Omirin confirmed to The PUNCH on Wednesday that the impeachment plot was still in top gear and would be followed to the end.

But the governor has warned the lawmakers against continuing with the plot, saying their action will boomerang as the people of the state will resist it.

The labour unions comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiating Council also planned to host a solidarity forum for the governor on Thursday (today) and Friday.

Omirin, who spoke through his media aide, Mr. Wole Olujobi, said, “The impeachment process will proceed; we are expecting the Chief Judge to act soon on our letter asking him to set up a seven-member panel. There is no going back on the process. The matter is set for the next stage.

“It is about the governor breaching the Constitution. We are guided by the Constitution. There are laid down rules and regulations that guide the conduct of public office holders. Once you commit an infraction, you have to face the consequence.

“The governor has to answer the allegations; the Assembly will give him a fair hearing. We will follow every step.”

Omirin countered claims that the governor had not been served the impeachment notice.

“If he was not aware, why did he go to court to try to stop the impeachment plot? What is the basis if he was not served? As far as we are concerned, he has been served.

“We’ll resume very soon. At the appropriate time, the Speaker will reconvene the Assembly.”

But reacting, Fayose, who said he was not shocked by the decision of the APC lawmakers to continue with the impeachment plot, described their action “as an idea that is distant to common sense.”

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the governor said that the plot was not a war against him but war against the people of Ekiti State and God.

Crime › Two Die As Fulani, Yoruba Clash In Kwara by neocortex(op): 6:25pm On Apr 15, 2015
No fewer than two people reportedly died while property worth millions of naira were destroyed following a
clash between Fulani traders and Yoruba natives of Oro-Ago in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara
State.
Our correspondent gathered on Wednesday that some irate youths allegedly razed at least five vehicles and
10 motorcycles said to be owned by some Fulani people in the ensuing pandemonium.
A source, who pleaded anonymity for fear of attack, told journalists in Ilorin that the mayhem was allegedly
caused by Fulani-Bororo settlers who, allegedly flouted a rule in the area that the settlers should never
bring arms, ammunition and fighting sticks from their settlements to market on Oro Ago market days.
He stated that some armed Fulani traders came to the market on Monday.
He added that the vigilance team and hunters in the area accosted them, seized the weapons from them
and later kept them at a place in Oro Ago town.
The source said the leader of the Fulani people in the area, popularly called Serikin Fulani, surprisingly
stormed the place where the ammunition were kept with his people, carted away the weapons seized by the
vigilance team and handed them back to the Fulani traders.
The source said the hunters and vigilance team attempted to retrieve the re-captured weapons from the
Fulani people.
According to him, violent clash erupted between the two camps, leading to a breakdown of laws and order
as weapons were allegedly used freely by the warring parties.
Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, said it was untrue
that seven people were killed during the clash.
He claimed that two people were killed.
