Osehnetworld:The Last year budget ended last month, so 2017 budget start last month also |
The spokesman of the Coalition of Northern Groups, Abdulazeez Suleiman, yesterday said that the group which asked Igbos to the quit northern Nigeria in three months was not being sponsored by powerful northerners as being alleged. Suleiman, from an undisclosed location, told Daily Trust on phone that it would be ridiculous for him to allow himself to be controlled by anybody at his age. “That we are being supported by some powerful people is not true. It will be funny if I would have to wait for someone to tell me what to do, regarding my destiny and that of my people. As a matter of fact, those who think they are the ‘big boys’ of the north - El-Rufai and Shettima - are the ones fighting us, while those who support and understand us are the neglected poor,” he said. Suleiman said none of the leaders of the 16 groups in the coalition had been arrested so far despite the order by governors El-Rufai of Kaduna and Shettima of Borno. “The coalition is made up of more than 16 different groups. It will be difficult to ascertain that unless the authorities say it. What is important here is whether or not the governors’ powers extend to ordering the arrest of people in all the states of northern Nigeria,” he said. On who is funding the group, Suleiman said money is not the motive. “I don’t see what money has to do with all this. Money does not buy freedom, and cannot motivate the courage to stand for the rights of people,” he stated. source:https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/-nobody-sponsoring-our-quit-notice-to-igbo/201243.html |

Former Niger Delta militants leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubu has reacted to the sack of Igbos from the North, urging all “Biafran people” in the north to defend themselves in case any attack from the Northern youths. Recall that the call for Igbos to vacate the northern region was made by some sections of northern youths during the week, and has generated reactions from prominent individuals and groups all over the country. Although, those that made the call have retracted it , the ex-militant leader noted that every Biafran, who according to him, comprise of the Ijaw, Ogonis, Oron, and Ibibios must not lie down and die when attacked. Asari noted that Igbo people do not invade people’s lands, nor take their properties and wondered why the call to evict them should be made. “My brothers and Sisters, fellow Biafrans, our struggle is for independence. Let me say this to Biafran People, our struggle is not to take from any other people. We have not travelled to the North, Lagos, Ibadan to take from any other people. “They are the ones who have been taken from us. In our entire struggle for the actualization of the Independent State of Biafra, we have not invaded other people’s land. We have always reacted strength to strength. “We have the right to defend our lives; we have the rights to defend our properties and we have the right to defend motherland. In the defense of the motherland, we have made some great sacrifices. “For me the Biafra struggle is not limited to one of the nationalities in Biafran land. It is the struggle of the Ibibios, the Ogonis, Oron, the Ijaws, and all the Biafran people. It is our collective struggle and collective destiny. Our resources are being wasted. “It is not even used to develop any part of this so-called Nigerian state. Where is Nigeria developed? Can you compare any part of Nigeria to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, or Pitoria? Or Cairo or Alexandra? The only way we can get control our resources is the independent of the Biafra state.” source :http://dailypost.ng/2017/06/08/quit-notice-igbos-asari-dokubo-tells-fellow-biafrans/

A coalition of Northern Youth groups tagged, “The Kaduna Declaration”, which gave all Igbos residing in any part of North three months to relocate to their places of origin, has reversed the threat. They had also directed northerners residing in the East to within three months relocate back to the North. The spokesman of the group, AbdulAziz Suleiman while briefing newsmen said, “All northern civil society and pressure groups are by this declaration mandated to mobilize for sustained, coordinated campaigns at their respective State Government Houses, State Houses of Assembly, Local Government Council Secretariats and Traditional Palaces to mount pressure for steps to be taken to ensure enforcement of the directives contained herein. “The North hereby openly calls on the authorities and other national and international stakeholders to acknowledge this declaration by taking steps to facilitate the final dissolution of this hopeless union that has never been convenient to any of the parties. ”From today, June 6, 2017, when this proclamation is signed, the North, a critical player in the Nigerian project, hereby declares that it will no longer be disposed to coexisting with the Igbos and shall take definite steps to end the partnership by pulling out of the current federal arrangement” But in a u-turn on Wednesday, Comrade Yerima Shettima, President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, and Isaac Balami, Arewa Consultative Forum Congress, appealed to Nigerians not to panic. In a video footage, Balami said the Northern groups had observed how the issue was “being discussed globally”. He said the groups will create a platform to discuss the outrage and condemnation trailing the eviction threat. His words: “This is not the time for us to discuss separation. We need to come together. Arewa is know for peace. “It is obvious that the initial approach was not the best. We need to work together as a nation “I want to tell Nigerians living at home and in diaspora that there is hope. This nation is going no where. “Shettima here wants to assure that everything that he has done was in good faith. This is one Nigeria and we are going nowhere.” source :http://dailypost.ng/2017/06/08/quit-notice-igbos-arewa-youths-make-u-turn-call-peace-meeting-video/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfwvp1A_QL8 |

ABUJA FOLLOWING sharp argument for and against holders of university degree and Higher National Diploma, HND, obtained from the polytechnics, over the qualification of the person who should man the Federal Roads Authority, FRA, the Senate was, yesterday, forced to stand down discussions and consideration of the bill. The bill was stepped down till next week to enable Senator Kabiru Gaya’s Committee on Works address some grey areas in the document. The heated debate came up during the consideration of the report of the Committee on Works, led by Senator Kabir Gaya (APC, Kano). The bill sets out to repeal Federal Roads Maintenance Agency Act 2017 and to Re-enact Federal Roads Authority Bill (FRA) 2017 and other Matters Connected Therewith. The bill recommends Bachelor’s of Science (B.Sc) degree or Higher National Diploma( HND) certificate as equivalent with COREN membership as compulsory qualification for headship of the proposed agency. This prerequisite did not go down well with Senator Clifford Ordia PDP, Edo Central), who was visibly angry at what he considered an attempt to equate university degree with polytechnic education. Ordia, who is a trained engineer, said B.Sc holders were engineers, while HND certificate holders were technologists and should not be placed at par with each other. Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara Central), quickly fired back, arguing that the bill was discriminatory against the community of polytechnic graduates to which he belongs. He also implored the Senate not to entertain the bill any further and asked that it be thrown out immediately. Senator Marafa, who decried the situation where the position for the director of the board should be for a university degree holder, said: “This is not in line with our tradition in passing bills. We have graduates for both HND and university. ‘’The issue of HND and university dichotomy had always generated heated issues, which have held back the progress of this nation. It has been lingering. “HND is equivalent to a degree. This matter is not in line with our constitution which says that any law passed that is not in tandem with our constitution is null and void. We must not be shut down.” Following the disagreement among senators, the Senate deferred the bill till next week for further legislative action. source :http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/senate-halts-debate-fra-degree-hnd-dichotomy/ |

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said last night that he would assent to the 2017 budget. Information Minister Lai Mohammed had earlier told State House reporters after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by Osinbajo that the decision on who to sign the budget would be taken when the document is transmitted to the Presidency. But Osinbajo, via a Twitter statement by his spokesman Laolu Akande, said the question on who would sign the budget was clear. According to the statement, when the time comes, everything is set and he is satisfied, the acting president will sign the budget. “Just so we are clear: when the time comes, everything is set and he is satisfied, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will assent to the 2017 budget,” the statement read. Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has denied telling State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting that a decision was yet to be reached on who would sign the budget. He said the budget which was passed last Thursday by the National Assembly had not been formally transmitted to the Executive. He, however, disclosed that the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma, had received the advance copy. Mohammed also stated that if there were any discrepancies in the budget presented and the one passed, the Executive would report to Udoma for harmonisation. He said the Ministry of Budget and National Planning would “make the implementation of the 2016 budget public. They have told us that about N1.2 trillion was released for capital.” source :https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/i-will-sign-2017-budget-osinbajo/198202.html
