Centrix:They still give full scholarships, at least to the boy and girl with the highest score in the common entrance. And they have special need-based scholarships for those who cannot afford the full cost of attendance. I know a lot of people from financially challenged backgrounds who attended and graduated from the institution. The important thing is that you inform the school of your inability to pay the full cost. If you don't inform them, there's no way they can know. But your ward has to pass the common entrance exam. Also, blind students are automatically given a full scholarship that enables them to attend the school for free throughout their six years. |
NL1960:The people I knew there have all graduated. The last one graduated in 2015, meanwhile the highest amount she paid throughout her time there was 1.1 million. And she was never on a scholarship. Those amounts bloggers write are inflated and do not reflect the true amount the school charges. |
Total fees including tuition, boarding and others at Loyola Jesuit College was 1.5 million naira per year as at last year. But if your son can get the highest score among male candidates in the common entrance exam, he would be given a full scholarship for the entire six years of study at the sch. Even if he doesn't get the highest score but performs well, he can still get a full scholarship if you inform the sch about your inability to pay. About 10% of the school population is on a scholarship. And it is the best secondary school in West Africa since at least the last 10 years. |
iekene:Hahaha, not during the exams o. We were together before the exam. I got in before him, then he was eventually placed beside me when he was called in. That was over one hour after I had started. I finished the exam, waited for him and we ended up going home together. TOEFL is not a kind of exam in which you can communicate. No calculations, nothing. Do you discuss how to talk or write essays? Time was almost inadequate sef, I just had to be really fast. |
iekene:Okay, I thought you were the one who sat beside me 'cos the bond I had with the guy was so strong. Success to you! |
iekene:I did mine there as well. Sorry, your name starts with A and ends with ED? |
iekene:I benefitted from that your account and I had mine on Feb 3rd as well. Thank you once again. The only observation was that the actual exam ended up being tougher that all what I saw in the mock tests. At what centre did you write yours in Lag? |
It was ranked 108 as at 2016 when I got accepted there. Money-wise, I wouldn't encourage any Nigerian to apply. |
ologun01:I honestly don't know what the actual cost of attendance for graduate program would be considering that many factors should be considered. But have you tried checking their website? You may as well email goglobal |
Sorry, I forgot. It was ranked number 108 which isn't bad. Meanwhile, I consider it a good sch looking at the fact that it has 75% success rate of acceptance to medical school. And it's engineering department is one of the best among catholic universities in the US. |
ologun01:Yea, yeah. It's a good sch, top 100 in the US. However, quite expensive with little financial aid. |
ologun01:I got accepted there last year. Is your question based on grad or undergrad? |
What were the reasons the student of the school gave you to validate his assertion that the school is not good? He has to give you some reasons. |
Do you have your official transcript that shows that you attended 100 to 300 level? Did you take and pass the MB part 1 before dropping out? As for your friend; if he has a Bsc in Anatomy, all he needs to do is apply by direct entry to any university in Nigeria. He would have to start from 200 level though. He cannot move directly to 300 level. |
LagosismyHome:You are an inspiration. And blessings shall follow you. |
Successjoy:From my little experience, the easier one between the two is dependent upon your personal strengths and weaknesses. Get prepared to solve some math on the SAT. So, if you're the type who doesn't enjoy math much, be prepared to work a little harder. Also, there is a SAT critical reading section which, from my personal studies, appears slightly tougher than the TOEFL reading section. Also, the registration costs for both exams differ. I have also observed that most people who ace the SAT spend at least three months studying for it, with many of them attending expensive tutorials. But you can actually study for the TOEFL within two weeks, all by yourself. Just get relevant materials, including videos. Now, talking about which is better; this is dependent upon the school you are applying to. Some schools require a very high score on the SAT for generous funding, while some schools just ask for the TOEFL. Some don't even ask for any, while some say the SAT is optional, but the TOEFL is compulsory. You need to critically study the application requirements of your school of choice, especially the financial aid requirements for international students. I would have suggested that you take your time to study for both exams to be on the safest side; but since you can't afford to, here's my humble suggestion: get past questions/mock questions on both exams. In a day, you would have studied the structures and concepts enough to be able to ascertain where your strength lies. Success! |
phynofino:Give your reasons why each one of them should retire. |
olapluto:I hope you know that one of them works for Sahara Reporters. So, what if Sowore decides to employ the rest of them? Isn't that a start-up job? |
I really like "Economy" and "Olorunsogo" by 9ice. I think he is still a great artiste. |
This particular thread is one of the reasons I still seem to believe in Nigeria. There are a lot of amazing and kind-hearted people here. Only God can reward such people. |
Walspring:I don't understand. Do you mean those people will help us register for the TOEFL or GRA at a cheaper price or what? Also, does it apply to both graduate and undergrad students? |
Wuminity:All right. Good luck to you! |
Wuminity:Every job opportunity available for Mass Comm students is also available for CLA students. Do you know that UI has a radio station for her CLA students? This is the same as the UNILAG FM for UNILAG Mass Common students. So, just imagine in your head where Mass Comm students can work and know that CLA students can work there too. But the language arts attached to it makes it even broader and gives more opportunity to CLA students, for example if you chose to travel abroad. |
beeolhar:Lmao, where do you guys hear statements such as this? In the outside world, no one knows the difference between UNILAG and Adeleke University, or between OAU and Oduduwa University. All universities in Nigeria are considered the same abroad. Try moving out of Nigeria and see for yourself. Or by "outside world", do you mean the OAU campus? Having said that; within Nigeria there seems to be more prestige for OAU graduates of Law than UI graduates of Law. And there seems to be more prestige for UI graduates of Medicine than OAU graduates of Medicine. Let me stop at those two courses. |
Wuminity:Why not go for CLA? it's even better than Mass Comm in the sense that it is broader. CLA is really good; go for it. They do everything Mass Common students do and even more. |
Part 11 opened with drama! |
justwise:Thank you! |
EZEIGBO1OFIMO:My auto-correct caused some errors in it, so I had to modify it. That was why I asked you to unquote it. But it's no problem if you won't. Have a nice day! |
EZEIGBO1OFIMO:You're right that I'm new to NL, sir. I wasn't referring to old days as far back as the date you mentioned. I didn't even know a word called ''Nairaland'' was in existence back then. I just joined this thread last year. Yes, it's fun but at times insults may not be fun, especially to strangers. Pls, kindly unquote my last post you quoted. Thanks! |
I remember those days when this thread was strictly about the United States students' visa application and education in America generally. Indeed, There Was A Thread! The new development isn't bad, anyway. Somehow, the arguments and counter-arguments are enlightening and educative. But when we argue, let's try and show respect to one another. What's the essence of arguing with insults? It only shows the kind of people we are and it won't end up serving the good purpose of education, because such arguments don't end well. Let's respect one another even during times of hot arguments whether we believe in God or not; at least it shows our level of moral standard. America or no America, all is vanity! Let's encourage more people to come here with their questions or enquiries. Describing people, especially newbies, with words such as ''lazy'', etc. in my opinion isn't respectful at all. And pls, let's respect our country Nigeria too, especially those of you already outside Nigeria. No need throwing tantrums back to us here. Nigeria can still be great, and if it can't, let's not worsen the already bad situation with our own words. Abeg, this is just my opinion o. |
Beelad:Okay, replied. |
