I will advice strongly you use Windows subsystem for Linux known as wsl. With it you can virtually anything you want on a Linux OS. It does not get in the way of your Microsoft Windows. It easy to use. You can develop apps with it. You can do lots of stuff with wsl. You can use different Linux distributions on your Windows machine once you download wsl.
Thank me later on this.
Thank you for your input.

Tricky is Secure Boot is enabled in the UEFI/BIOS.

I'd say OP should start with WSL

Thank you for your input, the reason why I want to embark on this is because of my web dev training via the ODIN project and they don't support WSL. I don't know how to go about it now.

Good evening fellow devs both snr, junior and up and coming dev. I hope you are all doing well?
I currently use a windows 10 OS on my system but I want to use Linux(understand and be knowledgeable about it) but still want to keep my current OS. I have researched for the two but I still want more input from you guys especially from the experienced ones among you. Which of the option should I opt for and why also what are the drawbacks?

PS: I use an 8GB RAM laptop. Thanks.

Oh lord my God, may women that think like this never cross my path, and the path of other good men out there. Women that hide under "its your responsibility as a man" slogan to be a liability instead of a supportive wive as ordained by you.

Please lord, shield thy son from monkey-branchers. Confused women that branches from one ideology to the other. They hold the son of man to be accountable as a provider, but not themselves to be virgins and virtous. They are feminist today, a Christian in the next hour. This chameleon tactics might be difficult for lots of good men to spot, but you promise to be there for us.

No matter how they pretend and package themselves, please expose them quickly before things get serious. As we go through the difficulties of life, may we not end up with a woman that will make sleeping at a bar more attractive than our home. These I pray, in Jesus name. Amen.
Amen.

Some niche field are devOps, QA Engineer you'll get a job asap. Mobile Devs is still a niche. Don't jump into web dev like React, jump into platforms built with React like Shopify, Airtable. Platforms bring money e.g WordPress Themes. Integration like the sort of Airtable, Softr and Zapier.

There's Chrome Extension, there's even Webflow gigs.

You can set yourself as a consultant and be earning money. That's the route I'm taking until bigger projects come, sometimes you might even think of a product the more you do platform gigs.

Good morning. Please explain '...platforms built with react like shopify, airtable'. Does it mean we should learn shopify? Though I am currently learning webdev and python. Thanks.

I am highly concerned about job prospects post graduation and employer filing thats why I recommended what I did.

I do not know much about prospects for mechatronics as I have never looked into it, but for citizens without issues bothering on work authorization, they can do whatever they wanna do.... international students do not have this luxury.

OK sir, thank you for your response.
Romance / Re: Brag About Yourself: What Are You Really Good At? by Newusername(m): 6:42pm On May 30, 2022
pansophist:

To know how to think, you must know how to write. Writing is formalized thinking. You cant be a thinker, without being a writer. Think of all the people you respect for their works be it academically, scientifically, politically, socially, or even in music, they all share one thing in common, and it is writing. They just write.

This is why before graduation, the school will want each graduating student to write a thesis because it forces them to think. All that I have written on nairaland are formalized thinking. When I see a post, I read it, ponder about it, then think about how to answer it, my wordings, and analogies, to make it relatable, before publishing it. This process incorporates all my cognitive abilities and stretches my thought patterns.

So the answer is actually simple. Just write every day, because writing will force you to think. and If you can think and write, then you are deadly. This is why journalists are killed often, it is because of their power in writing. They are deadly. Politicians fear them, even though many journalists are broke like hell. Writing and thinking are two deadly weapons any individual can develop. And to know how to write effectively, you must read widely. So reading plus writing makes you a thinker, a deadly person. When you read, you just shortcut your way out of decades or even centuries of other peoples experience.
Thank you.

I actually just logged in today to say, choice of courses in Engineering should be in this order:
1. Computer Science
2. Electrical engineering
3. Number 1 or 2
4. Industrial Engineering, due to its versatility
....
8. Mechanical engineering and all its variants, e too hard grin

Focus should be anything software related.
Opportunities abound and pay is better. Tech is the new Oil n Gas.

Goodday sir, thank you for the insights you have shared so far. Please I have a question.
Among the listed courses above, what do you have to say about Mechatronics engineering?
Romance / Re: Brag About Yourself: What Are You Really Good At? by Newusername(m): 11:13am On May 22, 2022
pansophist:
I can read people like a book. You just have to speak for a while, and I can accurately predict the kind of person you are, your motivations, and the energy you are operating on. By their fruit, ye shall know them. I am also good at thinking, I believe it's one of my top traits. I think a lot. I will look at things from multiple angles, ask questions like a lawyer, and break them down into pieces like I want to explain rocket science to a child until it becomes extremely clear what's going on. Hence I tend to use analogies and relatable examples when I write. Also, it is easy for me to understand complex things. I realize that things even adults double my age can't grasp, they just come so easy for me to understand.

I am also good at cooking, like really, I cant outsource what goes into my mouth to someone else. For most of what I eat, I cook myself. I also believe I will make a good teacher, and I actually like teaching. And oh, I am good with kids. I like kids a lot, and I pity them at the same time because we have messed this country so much that they will inherit the suffering and bear the responsibilities to not only save themselves but save us., and not transfer the job to the next generation. And if you know anything about time, it is that it charges interest. The job you refuse to do today, will multiple as time goes by, making it harder and harder.

Just as you are probably taller and stronger than when you were two years old, problems grow too. They become harder, more complicated, thicker, and tougher, that it becomes easier to pay interest on the problem and shift it to the future than solve it once and for all. Also, you get weaker and docile, and when the problem actually comes looking for you, you will be too weak to defeat it. So the trick is to go defeat the dragon, and not let it come for you. Because then you will lucky to meet the dragon when it is asleep, a baby, unprepared for your attack, or even still unhatched. This is exactly what Putin did, he went to destroy Ukraine first, prevent it from entering Nato, which is easier to do now, than when Ukraine is already in Nato and Russia would be fighting an alliance of over thirty nato countries alone, where at least three has nuclear weapons.

I am also good at using my tongue. As in If I yab you eh? chai, I only hope you no go commit suicide grin. At the same time, I can wake you up with my tongue. I know what to say to a dying man, to give him strength, my tongue is my greatest power. If you think say Nnamdi Kanu gets bad mouth as he called Naija a zoo, you probably haven't met me. And because of that, even right from when I was a kid, my family members and friends just avoid arguments with me, because they don't want to be the victim of the fury from my tongue. I used to lead the debating team of my high school then, and I de debate like a winch. Me gan de read some debate I did earlier and shock, like, did I did that? Lol.

Good morning sir, how do I get to this level of thinking especially when it comes to complex things. Thank you.
