Google Translate was mysteriously converting the English word ‘sad’ into ‘happy’ in Chinese.

Hong Kong social media lit up on Friday when people noticed that Google’s translation software was churning out a rather odd suggestion during a week that has seen some of the worst political turmoil for years.

Hongkongers Eagle-eyed Google users discovered that when they entered the phrase “I am sad to see Hong Kong become part of China” the suggested translation in both traditional and simplified Chinese converted the word “sad” to “happy”.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the gaffe but Danny Sullivan, an official at Google, said in a tweet “we’re looking into why we had this translation and expect to have a fix to resolve it soon”.

The company’s hugely popular software tool uses complex algorithms and deep learning computers, as well as allowing users to make suggested translations to improve accuracy.

“Oh my god, I can’t believe my eyes,” one Facebook user commented under one of the many screen grabs of the incorrect translation that went viral on Friday.

“The app intentionally mistranslates the English to ‘so happy/content’ instead of ‘so sad’,” added student Rachel Wong on Twitter. “I hope Google fixes this.”

When reporters entered the sentence “I am sad to see Hong Kong become part of China” on Friday morning it did show the wrong translation, replacing sad with happy.

Few hour later a correct translation was showing.

The popular encrypted messaging service Telegram is once again being hit with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack in Asia as protestors in Hong Kong take to the streets.telegram founder,pavelTelegram’s founder Pavel Durov has said a massive cyber attack on his messaging service originated from China.

On Wednesday, the firm confirmed it suffered a “powerful” Distributed Denial of Service attack which disrupted services for about an hour.

In a DDos attack, hackers overwhelm a target’s servers with junk requests.

Telegram protesters came as protestors in Hong Kong used Telegram to coordinate demonstrations over a plan to allow extradition to China.

In a post on Twitter, Telegram said the disruption affected users in the Americas and “other countries”.

Mr Durov later tweeted the IP addresses involved in the attack mostly came from China.

China’s Cyberspace Administration, which oversees the country’s cyber policy, has yet to comment.

Telegram allows people to send encrypted messages, documents, videos and pictures without charge.

Users can create groups for up to 200,000 people, or channels for broadcasting to unlimited audiences.

Its popularity has grown because of its emphasis on encryption, which thwarts many widely used methods of reading confidential communications.

Mr Durov’s comments came amid reports a man identified as a Telegram group administrator had been arrested in Hong Kong for conspiracy to commit public nuisance.

Police and protesters had pitched battles in the city on Wednesday over plans to allow suspects to be extradited to mainland China.

About 72 people were injured, including two men who were in critical condition.

Over the weekend, her son Tenor walked the runway for Toyin’s Elegante Kids line. The two of them were supported at the event by Tenor’s father and musician Lord Trig.

Due to the US Government’s recent trade war with China, the Chinese company has now reportedly reduced new-handset orders from its manufacturing partner Foxconn.

Smartphone-maker Huawei was recently added to the United States’ “Entity List”, a move that has effectively stopped Huawei from doing business with any of its US-based associates, and which has significant implications for both the software and hardware used its future smartphones.

Its Known that,Various chipset manufacturers (such as Intel and Qualcomm) have ceased all dealings with Huawei, but perhaps more significantly, the phone-maker also won’t be allowed to implement critical parts of the Android mobile OS that require access to Google-run services – which includes the likes of YouTube, Gmail, and the Google Play Store, which is used to install and verify apps and games.

With the Chinese tech giant’s ongoing issues, it’s perhaps unsurprising that it has been reassessing its goal of becoming the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer by 2020.

Production reduction

A new report from the South China Morning Post (SCMP), citing people familiar with the matter, has stated that Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn has “stopped several production lines for Huawei phones in recent days”.

The timing of the change strongly suggests this reduction is a response to the ongoing US trade ban controversy, although the South China Morning Post has conceded that “it is not clear whether the decreased production is temporary or part of a longer-term cut” and that “smartphone manufacturers have flexibility built in their production schedule”.

With Huawei overtaking Apple during Q2 of 2018 to become the world’s second-biggest smartphone maker, the company was hoping to topple the current leader (Samsung) by 2020.

Maybe you have not noticed, that your iPad didn’t come with a calculator app installed on it when you first got it out of the box.

Instead, you have to download a third-party calculator app to be able to do calculations on your Apple tablet, but according to a new rumor that’s set to change with iOS 13.

PineLeaks on Twitter has said the app will debut in iOS 13 and may offer a floating calculator experience rather than a specific separate app. Exactly how that would look is unclear.
Take this with a big pinch of salt as we’ve yet to hear any other accurate information from PineLeaks on Apple, so there’s no guarantee this information will be accurate.

Little is known about how iOS 13 will make an impact on your iPad. A previous rumor suggested it may bring support for mice to use with your tablet, but that may be limited to future iPad models rather than your existing device.

Every player in the mobile industry is gearing up for their biggest competition yet: the launch of 5G.

5G will, of course, be a lot faster and stronger than the 4G we’re used to – just as it was an improvement on the 3G that came before it.

The improvements are pretty mind-boggling; speeds could conceivably be up to 100 times faster than 4G, but this is only one benefit of the new standard.

To demonstrate what this means, the US network Verizon and infrastructure provider Ericsson put together a rather clever demonstration: they gave two American football players VR headsets and mounted cameras on top.

They then sent the video from the cameras over 5G back to the 5G base station, and then from the base station back to the VR headsets – so they would still see what their eyes would naturally, but it would be sent over 5G first.

The result? It turns out that 5G is so quick, it’s possible to throw and catch a football even with images being transmitted to a base station and back, while still maintaining millisecond precision.

Faster connectivity for fans

This clever demo, however, is not the only thing that 5G and sports have in common.

In fact, 5G looks set to transform the entire sports viewing experience.

First, let’s look at stadiums and arenas. The most annoying thing that can happen at large events is the mobile networks not working because thousands of people are all in the same place and are trying to connect to the same mobile antenna.

Nokia 8110 4G, affectionately known as the banana phone is getting one of the most popular applications released for it. Users of this KaiOS based phones will finally be able to WhatsApp using the enigmatic yellow phone.

It was announced during MWC 2018, the comeback of the Nokia 8110 4G certainly created some noise. Mostly targeted as a secondary phone, the 8110 appealed to an older crowd for nostalgic reasons.

However, the functionality of the 8110 4G was limited due to the lack of apps commonly found on iOS and Android platforms. This, could also be considered as a selling point for the banana phone, giving the hyper-connected user a break.

A lot of signals is shown, looking more and more likely that iTunes’ days are numbered.

Topmag noticed that Apple has cleared out its Instagram and Facebook pages for the program, removing all of its pictures, posts, and videos.

We note that Apple appears to have migrated its iTunes accounts over to their Apple TV counterparts on Facebook and Instagram. Its Twitter account remains untouched for now.

The writing has been on the wall for the end of iTunes for a little while now.

The April Reports suggested that Apple was planning to break it up in favor of separate apps for Music, Podcasts, and TV with the next version of macOS, although it’s reported that the Music app will pretty much have the same functionality.

It was Last week that the leaked screenshots showed off what looked to be the Apple Music and Apple TV apps, and a roundup of Apple’s plans for next week by Bloomberg indicated that Apple is indeed axing the program, in favor of those separate applications.

We’ll find out tomorrow when Apple kicks off its Worldwide Developers Conference. In addition to finding out iTunes’ fate, we’ll likely also get news of a new Mac Pro, iOS 13, and more.

Huawei has been reinstated as a member of the SD Association after it was reported that the tech company was removed from the membership list last week.

The report prompted concerns that future devices by the company may not be equipped with the microSD card feature.

In a statement to website Android Authority, a Huawei representative confirmed that the membership was not cancelled, but instead was “temporarily modified to ensure compliance with the US Department of Commerce order”.

Also, Huawei’s membership with Bluetooth SIG, WiFi Alliance and Jedec has also been restored, meaning future Huawei devices could possibly have access to connectivity and hardware features developed by these companies.

Huawei is currently embroiled in a battle with the United States which put the company under the Entity List, requiring US companies to get the government’s approval before performing business dealings with the tech giant.

Support for the Chinese company has been pouring in and it can count Malaysia as an ally as prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during a speech at the Future Of Asia conference in Japan, shared that Malaysia could benefit from partnerships with Huawei.

“Huawei’s research is far bigger than Malaysia’s capability. We try to make use of their technology as much as possible,” he said, as reported by Nikkei Asian Review.

Dr Mahathir reportedly added that he is not concerned over allegations of Huawei’s espionage activity as the nation is an “open book”.
