The Federal Government has disclosed plans to begin free train ride from Iju in Lagos State to Abeokuta in Ogun State as soon as the laying of tracks is completed by next month.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, during an inspection tour of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project, said that 38 kilometres had been completed on the 73km track from Lagos to Abeokuta, adding that the contractor assured him that the axis would be completed by February.

The minister also disclosed plans to deploy about eight new wagons on the Ajaokuta and Itakpe axis of the rail track. According to him, by the first week of January, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and some ministers would be brought to inspect the project, after which passengers would enjoy free train ride from Iju to Abeokuta.

Government’s target, Amaechi said, was to get to Ibadan by end of January, after which pressure would be put on the construction company to complete the station buildings, and to focus on completing one track rather than constructing the two tracks simultaneously.

He disclosed that government had been able to sort out the challenges at the Lagos axis. Amaechi said the initial budget for the project was $1.6 billion.

He, however, hinted that the cost might increase due to some unforeseen challenges encountered during the execution, such as payment of compensation for the demolition of some structures.

The Nigerian Army has called for the closure of the Amnesty International offices in Nigeria, alleging there is credible evidence the organisation is working hard to destabilise the country.

The army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman said in a statement on Monday that the organisation’s attempt to destabilise the nation was noted through fabrication of fictitious allegations of alleged human rights abuses against the Nigerian security forces.

Usman also alleged the AI had engaged in clandestine sponsorship of dissident groups to protest, as well as unfounded allegations against the leadership of the Nigerian military.

A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, Enough is Enough, and BudgIT) have recently called for the probing of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) over the funding of the war against terrorism and other crimes in the country.

The CSOs alleged the army had not made commensurate achievement in the fight in line with the huge fund the federal government allocated to the fight.

The COAS, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, had however explained that some of the allocated funds has yet to be cash backed and that it had not reached the army.

Yes! Almost like a true life story. Personally, I encountered something similar in my first relationship. However, it’s becoming like a norm. I have only dated two guys in my life. My first boyfriend was so jealous and obsessive. Nobody could say ‘hi’ to me then. He chased away all my friends, both male and female. He caused more harm to me than good. Unfortunately, the relationship didn’t last, we had to part ways.

Considering the fact you are not yet married and you are offering advice to married couples, do you think it’s a good idea?

It doesn’t matter. Anybody can talk about that with little knowledge because it has become a big issue in the society. Marriage talk has become part of our daily life; if given a chance, a ten year old has a thing or two to say about it, so it is not really about who is who, it’s about the message.

You recently granted an interview where you were quoted saying you don’t mind asking men for sex, how true is that?

While speaking at the Vice Presidential debate on Friday, Vice President Osinbajo admitted that the job has been a herculean task.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says he is not a spare tyre to the president, emphasizing that his roles as the number two citizen are spelt out in the constitution. Osinbajo said this during the vice-presidential debate organised by the Nigerian Elections Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON).
He said this differs from the constitution of other countries.

Asked how taking the job of the vice-president has been since he assumed office over three years, Osinbajo said the demand of the role has since increased his grey hair.

He, however, said despite the herculean nature of his job, it has also been rewarding.

“I am sure that those who know me quite well know that my hair was not this grey when I started out in 2015. So really, it has been tasking,” Osinbajo said.

“And it has also been an incredibly rewarding experience especially looking at it from the point of view of the ability to do the things that one wanted to do all along as an individual.

“The role is one where you are in many senses the chief adviser to the president of the country and possibly the one person that would represent him when when he is absent for a meeting and even when he is absent for a longer period.

“So there is a sense in which the role of the vice president is one that very closely mirrors the role of the president in very profound ways.

Liverpool and Egypt striker Mohamed Salah has capped a sparkling 2018 for club and country by winning the prestigious BBC African Footballer of the Year Award for the second time in a row.

“It’s a great feeling to win again. I’m happy and I would like to win it also next year!” said Salah. The 26-year-old, who beat Medhi Benatia, Kalidou Koulibaly, Sadio Mane and Thomas Partey to the award, is just the second player after Jay-Jay Okocha to win it two years running.

Yaya Toure is the only other player to have twice won the award in its current form while Nwankwo Kanu won it twice when it was a broader African Sports Personality award.

Salah scored 44 goals in 52 games for Liverpool last season, his first on Merseyside after joining them from Roma, and helped them to reach the Champions League final. His club form has continued this season with his winner against Napoli on Tuesday that saw the Reds into the Champions League last 16 taking his tally to 13.

“There have been many good moments in 2018. I’m scoring goals and helping the team to get the points to be top of the league. That’s always a great feeling” he added. Salah also scored twice for Egypt at the World Cup in Russia.

Earlier in 2018, Salah won the English double the Players’ Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Player of the Year. Salah also won the 2017 CAF Player of the Year and is one of 10 nominees for the 2018 award which will be announced in January.

The quest by Nigeria to roll-out 5G network by 2020 can only materialise if certain infrastructural gaps are bridged, experts in the ICT industry have said.Technology experts, who spoke with The Guardian, acknowledged that Nigeria cannot be left behind in the new revolution, having failed to benefit adequately in the second and third industrial revolution.

The experts cautioned that except policies are in place, infrastructures are upgraded, demands rise and government shows commitment and readiness to run a digital economy, the plan may wobble.

Already, the Global System for Mobile telecommunications Association (GSMA) has revealed that unlocking the right spectrum for the mobile industry to deliver innovative 5G services across different sectors could add $565 billion to global GDP and $152 billion in tax revenue from 2020 to 2034.The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said the country will roll-out 5G network through the 2.6GHz, 3.8GHz and 4.2GHz spectrum bands in 13 months time.

Speaking with The Guardian, the President, Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Olusola Teniola, said the country can find test beds and experimental 5G limited networks. Teniola said expectations that many areas of Nigeria will suddenly have deployments of 5G networks with usable demand cases is not feasible until the country has sorted the fiber network deployments to the many towers hosting base transceiver stations (BTSs) that may have been upgraded to 5G.

He stressed that the success case of 5G is dependent on available devices and phones, adding that if one uses 4G as a benchmark, it will be apparent that 4G hasn’t really reached its full potential as expected in Nigeria.From his perspective, the Director-General, Delta State Innovation Hub (DSHUB), Chris Uwaje, noted that the national ICT infrastructure has come a long way, jumping from one inconclusive road-map to another without exhausting the life-time span expectancy and benefits of the one at hand.

According to him, many years ago, when Nigeria jumped to 3G, India was still implementing 2G while understudying their next steps. “I will say uninterrupted power supply and alternate power; mandatory nation-wide optic fibre infrastructure deployment and software development and engineering capacity building should be the country’s top-most priority.”

Uwaje, who said research, has shown that there is a critical flaw in the rollout of 4G worldwide, because it concentrated on content (data) without voice, which is what 5G is attempting to rectify.

“Without effectively implementing the broadband road-map with mandatory migration to IPv6, technology will only increase the deployment costs exponentially.”

The Nigeria Police Force says it is not a crime to have sex in one’s car.

The police, however, said it could be considered a crime if one has sex with underage person; or if the car is parked in a religious institution when the act takes place.

The Police also say car sex is unlawful if both persons are of the same sex.

The Police, therefore, asked that anybody who is harassed for having sex in a car should report the incident immediately.

The Head of the Police Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit, Mr. Abayomi Shogunle, said this while responding to a question on Twitter.

The question had been raging on social media following an incident that occurred last week wherein a couple was harassed by a mob for having sex in a car.

Responding to a question, however, Shogunle said, “No. Sex in a car in a public place is not a crime in Nigeria, provided the location is not a place of worship; both persons are 18 years and above; the act is consensual (agreed to by parties); parties are of opposite sex.

“If threatened with an arrest over above, please report to the Police.”

Rice sellers were filmed tearing open full bags of rice to remove some of it before repackaging to sell as a full bag at the same price as a full bag of rice.

It’s been an open secret that traders who sell, rice, beans, and other grains in bags do this but a Facebook user, Woli Kekere, managed to capture them in the act and shared videos online to expose the fraud.

According to Kekere, at least 8 dericas (container used to measure rice in Nigeria) of rice was removed from each bag.

They then transferred the rest of the rice from the regular bags into slighly smaller bags to make it fill the bag to the brim as though it were a complete bag.
