Dbegining: Proof of reform or proof of a dying economy?
Proof of reform or proof of a suffering people? These monies are not for investment but rather monies sent to loved ones from the diaspora. That means the cost of living has increased and begging has increased.
I really condemn in the strongest of terms how this government calls it's bad economic decisions reforms. I don’t think you understand the article. The 600M is passing through official channels. Last year Nigeria had diaspora inflows of over 20billion and 90% of that was came in through the black market because of the foreign exchange arbitrage in the black market. (Why would you send Money home through official rate when you can get almost double in the black market). This shows that within the next year, half of the total diaspora inflows would be channeled through the offical channels. Increasing Fx reserves and investor confidence. This is really a great achievement. |

Argentina with their laudable economic turn around are arguably still in a more serious mess than us at the moment. Massive retrenchment of the civil service, net reserves in the minus and a higher year to year inflation rate (still at about 39%).
Can we not just appreciate ourselves in the strides we’ve made. Ohh I almost forgot, it’s opposition politics some people have to play. I’m sure in Argentina there’s an “obi’esque” discrediting everything they are doing. |

Kukutente23: You don't know anything Check this link for more info https://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/elibrary/read/1241342 I read both the executive summary and the full report and all it talks about is the estimated amount of electricity billed to the customers as well the total amount of electricity generated. There’s nowhere in that report that alludes to your point of the unreliability in gas generation. Like I said and I will state it again, you are clearly misinformed. |

Kukutente23: Nobody is giving false information That's the fact Hydroelectric contribution to Nigeria's power is more than 20%. Most of the gas powered plants suffer from stability issues based on gas supply which is why the hydro come in handy to stabilize power during the rainy season If you believe hydro electricity is more than 20% I wouldn’t argue with you. If you think the gas plants are unreliable I wouldn’t argue with again. I know what I know and I know you’re clearly wrong. |

Kukutente23: You guys should quit the deceit It is common knowledge that power supply improves during the rainy season in Nigeria because of our dams none of which was built by this administration or any APC administration for that matter Besides that, it's obvious this guys on twitter are the newly recruited digital media army of 1000 people being paid 30k to sway public opinion since your president is now clueless and has no idea on what to do anymore Hydroelectricity generates less than 20% of the total amount of power we use in Nigeria. I don’t think you’re well informed to be making comments on this issue. Pls read up. You guys are relying on 2005 information. Give credit where credit is due. |

Kavod: I agree the power improved but it also has to do with the constant raining, Nigerians dont know how power stations operate, The more the down pour the more power a dam would produce electricity. Wrong. Hydroelectricity in Nigeria generates less than 20% of the total electricity we use. Nigeria power generation is predominantly through gas. You are the one who doesn’t know how the Nigerian power sector operates |

There are no basis for comparing the costs of renovation between Gatwick and MMA Lagos.
N350b from that budgeted N700b will be stolen. Period. Labour is cheaper here quite alright. But all the major materials and equipment needed for a standard international airport are imported. Everything from the electronics, mechanical fittings etc. even the contractor is foreign. You need to think wider than labour. |

For winning WAFCON that less than 1% of Nigerians actually watched. This is waste of money. Excellence must be rewarded. This gesture is a statement to everyone going forward. It is decisions of many years crystalizing now.....we need to own the entire value chain as a nation

jmoore: Notice the clear difference.
USA went after the founder, while Nigeria is after the workers.
You cannot arrest and prosecute a bank cashier for the actions of a banking institution, you should hold the CEO liable.
The stubborn ignorance of NSA, EFCC, FIRS and other agencies involved in the arrest and prosecution of the binance staff will disgrace Nigeria.
I am laughing at their useless propaganda that the one that escaped has been arrested and will be extradited.
It is only in Nigeria that a police will arrest a relative of a suspect because they could not find the suspect. They used same stupid mindset to kidnap the binance staff. You really don’t know what’s going on. US went after him because at the time the crime was committed CZ was the CEO of Binance. He resigned in 2022 so how do you expect Nigeria to go after him. |

Eriokanmi: After announcing last week that they'd use over 30bn dollars stashed in various banks to safe the free fall of naira, the money which the CBN later debunked,, a lot of people, including politicians have besieged banks and withdrawn all their dollars.
From time immemorial, any news from the federal government coffers which were carried by major newspapers were later debunked later became real. I can't be mentioning scenarios. The most recent one was the electricity tariff which they first debunked. Now, its become a reality. Maybe the cbn had envisaged that people would react swiftly and pack all their dollars before they implement the policy, they now debunked it. Nigerians are wiser than they think. How can you convert usd to naira at a rate you would now dictate to the owners of those dollars?
The politicians aren't left out today among those who thronged banks and took their dollars away. That's the reason dollar rate fell since last Saturday. I bought dollar at 1407 today, imagine. Early last week it was sold above 1,500. Dollar don yapa now and its estimated to fall further.
All these international banks will be hardest hit and that's why the standard chartered man was shouting 😃. A lot of people must have emptied their dollar vaults today. Sorry to say but your analysis is flawed fundamentally and I wouldn’t give you my reasons why. Your point is that of a layman who doesn’t adequately grasp the dealings of the financial market. |

But I have my doubts.... since normally .... such rehabilitation of schools usually take at 5he end of the school year. .. when schools are closed ... not when they are in session. Yh I agree with you that the best time to conduct the rehabilitation would be outside the school term period. Going from the article, a May deadline would mean all the necessary operations have been put in place. Atleast that’s what I hope, Because a normal bidding process takes on the average of 1-3 months depending on the project scale. |
Politics › Re: Wike Approves ₦30.9 Billion For Rehabilitation Of FCT Schools by ninetiethcrown7(m): 9:40am On Jan 31, 2024 |
Originalsly: Hmmm..... all this completed by May. Don't they have to do an assessment? ... what needs to be done in each school? ... furniture needed ... equipment ... etc. .... list the requirements. .... set a date for contractors to bid ... then select the contractors who will take some time to get materials ... equipment and skilled workers before finally starting to work. All thus to start ... and complete by May. Rehabilitation is different from a needs assessment, Everything needs to be brought to standard. I would also believe they would have conducted the bidding exercise, either competitive or closed bidding before this news got to us. |

coputa: Dangote refinery cannot cater for the needs of Nigerians.we consume 32million litres of PMS everyday not to mention AGO, they will still import to bridge the gap until all the nations refineries will start producing at full capacity. . It will cater or be adequately enough by my calculations, 350k bpd x 170 litres of refined petroleum products per barrel, do the maths. This is all on the basis that there is constant supply of crude. At full capacity of 650k, we would have enough to flood the country with refined petroleum products and even still export for forex. With or without the gov owned refineries. |

Simple economics also tells you what to expect when purchasing power is lost, there'll be complete collapse of the system And you are supporting my point. Adding to the already ridiculous inflation rate is ludicrous. Bastardizing the economy any further to me is not the best approach in solving the issues of the day. But I’m also highly sympathetic to the plights of the common man. To be honest I don’t see any bad answer in this kind of issue, just advantages and disadvantages. Like I said, time will tell.
