Okay, Thanks for always responding to our questions salford1: There would still be jobs, but the economy won't be as buoyant as it used to be. Nice write up, wish you all the best in cannyland hotD: Sooooo... We got out passport back exactly after 3 weeks by then i had put in my resignation happily and we had started selling our stuff,i bot everything buyable in the market that i knew i wld need for the first 3,4 months, got some winter shoes and jacket from Jos and aliexpress,we actually had to go to the US for a wedding so we planned we wld just enter canada from there,so we booked airfrance to the US and aircanada to come down,we sent our things thru lagos down to canada,we paid almost 500k to send 375kg worth but the agent we used cheated us seriously,it was from this forum i learnt we could ship down,as we got there,we didnt have a particular agent so we picked him from the gate,we took our stuff up,it was weighed and a quote was given which was about 367 via delta airline, our goods were wrapped up in our front,we got receipt for the payment and we left, only for the agent to call us the next day dat he was trying our lines as we left but didnt go tru,dat he had to change d shipping company to virgin atlantic as d one in d delta line did not give my husband d correct rate, dat we are to balance him 90k and virgin atlantic removed all my food stuff and our electronics,i was so mad ehn, first our phone was never swtiched off, secondly u didnt ask if we were ok with it u just went ahead and then opened our bags when we were not there to pick out things but somehow we moved on,we got to canada did all the landing formalities, nothing serious,u just hold your COPR,show them the list of goods accompanying and within 40mins we were out, went to try to trace our luggage discovered virgin atlantic doesnt ship to canada,we started making calls o so they told us they wld ship by land from the US we shld go and collect from a shipping agent here... So we decided we were going to stay in guelph as i read it has low unemployment rate and is gud for raising a family but we cldnt get an airbnb in guelp but we got in kitchener which is about 20-30 mins drive from guelph.we checked into our apartment fortunately it was in downtown so that evening all the roads where blocked for a festival, everybody came out and enjoying themselves,we too joon them abi now!!! By the next day the shipping company had contacted us to come pick our stuff so we needed a vehicle and it was in toronto which is quite a drive,d uber that brot us from d airport charged us about $120 so if we are to do that again besides d car mite not be able to carry the load,so we went to u-haul with our naija liscense and dat international drivers permit, luckily d permit helped us dats how we rented a truck and went to carry the things ourselves,as we got back struggling to take d things upstairs,i was waiting down dats how a wait lady walked up to me and greeted me and i smiled back, she introduced herself and said she knows i am naija and her assistant pastor is naija dat we shld come to church on sunday,i have read from this forrum dat person need connection, dats how we went to church on sunday and i can boldly say that woman has been a life saver,i call her Emily my angel. So by the 4th day we decided to get a car, went to a dealer and a gud car starts from $11,000 den u pay tax,tax in ontario is 13% hmmm,so i kept checking kjiji and we got someone who wanted to sell his toyota venze for $13,000...d good thing here is that before anyone sells his car to you he has to take it for a test from that result u can tell if the car is gud or not,so nobody can hide anything,so we got the car, pretty smooth deal but insurance became the problem nobody wanted to insure a car with naija liscencei got d link posted on dis forum to practise for d drivers liscence test and we did practice got there and d queue was long ehn,i told oga lets come early d next day d man say nooo, today today we must write it,we waited for almkst 4hours and it it got to us,we both passed got our G1,picked a date for G2 test so eventually we got an insurance company that agreed to do insurance for us online,it was done instanstly but very pricey we had to pay for 2 months since none of us is working,to get phone lines, rogers and bell refused to sign us up,no work history,no canadian passport and no guarantor but we got a line with koodo inside walmart, their internet service is pretty expensive,i wld discard dem as soon as i get my temporary drivers liscence. We went to the multicultural centre too, registered with them,d major help was with writing our cv to canadian format, which d employment agency helped out with and hubby started submitting and the calls for interviews started, got about 4 interviews in a week and he finally settled for a telecom so within 3 weeks he got a job. Then the biggest challenge -accomodation hmmm,to get house here na serious war o,as we first landed in Kitchener my hubby fell in love with the place so he didn’t bother going to check guelh out(mistake number 1),so we started house hunting in kitchener, all of them asked for pay stubs, work reference, guarantor bla bla d moment they hear u dont have work yet they are not willing to help,we even offered to pay 6 month cash in one condominium, they rejected d offer, hubby was so pained ehn and d houses are pretty expensive 2 bedroom starts from $1400 here except u want to stay where those indians stay but i have a small kid so i need to watch d environment she stays in..so d accomodation thing was d biggest challenge,we had to extend our airbnb so we cld get a place, and that is how Emily my angel helped us get a place, stood as a guarantor, gave them cheques for d balance of six months...somebody dat just met me on d road,i mean.. So all in all we’ve been here for a month today and most things are pretty much settled, kitchener is not a friendly place to me,hubby is now regretting we didnt check guelph out as it looks alot more friendlier dan kitchener.for me i just registered for CSC as i am expectant so i no wan stress myself at all, hoping by d time i am done with baby matter i wld have my cert to fully enter the job market, hubby is taking a course in project management as they are well paid here so we doing a week in toronto(canada oshodi)... Feel free to ask anything,i would try to respond. Thank you |

Congratulations, can't wait to hear more enocoded4life: Landing gist
We left Naija on the 7th of July which was a Saturday via Ethiopian airlines. The flight was booked with their app and the price for that day was one of the cheapest in July 326k. Our flight was for 1:40pm, we arrived at the airport at 9am with 10 suitcases and 5 hand luggages (family of five). We had 14 small eva bottles of frozen palm oil spread out in three of the suitcases containing clothes. The scanner picked one of the suitcases and we were asked to open it for a search, I was asked what it contained and I told them palm oil. They asked me to bring it out, I fished out one bottle and they had an argument amongst themselves about the fact that it was frozen, then they took it and asked hubby to settle them. Me I sha jejely zipped my bag and left them to do their thing, thankful that they got just one out of 14 bottles Yippee!!! And no they didn't return the bottle. We were stopped again by a custom officer to come for a check of our foodstuff, 7 of the 10 suitcases contained foodstuff, dried fish, smoked fish, crayfish, egusi, ogbono, garri e.t.c. The potter who helped us with the luggage's asked me to declare just one bag containing food, so I pointed to a suitcase that didn't contain much food stuff. They saw beans and dried fish and stated they were agricultural products and I needed to fill a form, I filled a form and a sticker was brought for the bag. The sticker cost 2k and we were told that bags containing food without the sticker would not be cleared. We sha parted with 2k for that one bag and ignored the other bags. Next we moved to Ethiopian airways check in point and the bags were weighed, we had weighed all the bags at home with a handheld digital scale so they were all within the 23kg limit. Hubby was asked for the pregnancy certificate that must be filled by preggies to show that they are fit to fly, I had previously downloaded the form and taken it to my doctor to complete and sign. Hubby presented the form and was asked to make photocopies, he made and submitted the photocopies and we were done with checking in. We spent some time with friends and family, filled the yellow immigration forms, bid our loved ones good bye and went in. Our hand luggage's were searched then we proceeded to the lounge . Waited for a while and then we boarded the flight from Lagos to Addis Ababa
To be continued... |

Please did you get the email requesting for further tests after you submitted your application or before that dumsydsassy1: Hi JonJon2017, So 2 months back, we went for our own medicals. My spouse is hypertensive, it’s hereditary. He’s been taking drugs for the past 4years for it and been seeing a cardiologist every quarter. He usually gets apprehensive once he steps into the hospital, so that one added to his BP reading being 190/100. The checked 3 times and it was the same. So the PP included creatinine among his tests to check if his kidneys were fine. 16days later we got a mail from the PP that CIC has requested for further tests. We got the mail on a Saturday, so on Monday we headed to Abuja clinics. They said we need to pay to see the cardiologist N18750. We saw the cardiologist later that evening who said we need to do ECG and Echo2. Total cost for both was N89500. We weren’t smiling at all. But we didn’t have a choice. We however were more concerned about the state of his heart. Prior to seeing the cardiologist at Abuja clinics we had gone to see our own cardiologist at Nisa Premier to see if we could do both tests and have a heads up on what to expect later that Monday. Let’s just say we made a mistake because the results were not good. Fast forward to Monday evening, he did the ECG n ECHo, after which the cardiologist said he didn’t know what Nisa Premier was seeing, but all he can see is a healthy functioning heart, though it’s pumping harder than normal but since it’s being managed with drugs then it’s not a problem. He prescribed more drugs and showed us the report he was forwarding to CIc and assured us that all was well. Fast forward 2days later and Medicals passed on myCIC account. Bottom line, like someone said earlier, HBP is not a disease it’s a condition and as long as your organs are fine(kidney, heart), you won’t be disqualified on that basis. |

Congratulations Ethelia Ethelia: Hmn, where do I even begin from! Initially my husband and I were considering going the Australia route but a friend encouraged us to go with Canada. We were not sure about who would be the PA (I’m younger but only wanted to use NYSC, while he could claim 2 years) so we decided to both take IELTS and let British council decide….
IELTS: Wrote Ielts in December and ont the day it was to be released both our results were withheld for quality checks! After almost 3 weeks the results were released. I became the PA (9,8.5,8,7.5 in LRSW). His was not as good but it was good enough to contribute some points. We studied using Cambridge, Ielts Liz and the free Road to Ielts materials. Advice: Preparation is key!!
ECA: This to me was a no brainer. Since there was a probability I would be the PA I quietly used IQAS while he used MCC. I have previously detailed my experience with both so wont repeat it. Advice: Start this as soon as possible, it can take a lot of time
Work Experience: I used my NYSC experience. I had a 3month extension during my service and was also retained for about 4 months thereafter. I submitted the work reference letter in strict CIC format, Pay slips, resignation letter, my previous business card and the business card of the Managing partner who signed. Advice: Get Your letter as soon as possible. This is because you cannot predict what will happen. I had a lot of back and forth with my former company regarding some of the wordings. Better to know if they will even agree to give the letter in the first place.
POF: 100% from my husband. I submitted my bank reference letters, exchange rate from xe.com and bank statements (which clearly showed the deposit from his account). I also included a declaration of gift from my husband. It’s worth mentioning that we had submitted his work reference letter and additional documents (we already had them, so why not?)
PCC: Inspector Moshood to the rescue
LOE: I put myself in the place of the Visa officer and tried to explain everything he might have questions about, such as why I wasn’t using my more recent work experience (I just told them it would be hard to get the reference letter and I highlighted the fact that the minimum requirement is 1 year which I have already fulfilled), why I have a different passport number from the one I got ITA with, my Bar Certificate, Schedule A, Travel History Form, my visa refusals, etc. I made it factual and straight to the point.
AOR: March 7
Med Passed: March 14
Ip1: March 15
Ordered 1st GCMS notes: 9th May
Ordered 2nd GCMS Notes: 28th June
Ip2: 1st July (when I noticed)
PPR: Today
In summary, preparation is key. God cannot bless what you haven't put effort into. Read, read and then research some more. No one can package your application better than yourself. Do NOT cut corners! It will come back to bite. Do all you can and leave the rest to God. I'll give some more info if anyone asks and when I remember
Thank you all so so much. This show of love is too much |
