Nitigriti, I'm sorry but I think you are contradicting yourself

You said its unprofessional to reject trips

You are saying the driver should leave the platform if he doesn't want to damage his car

So if I get a request from you to a location with bad roads, what do I do?
Are you saying I damage my car because I want to be professional?
Or I should cancel the trip?
Or I should cancel and leave the platform totally?
I NEVER said it is unprofessional to cancel trips. Please quote where I said so.

So you are saying a driver should damage his car because of the customer? He should drive through bad and terrible roads just for how much?

Shebi you change shocks for #800 Abi?

No, Izzou. The driver should not damage his car because of the customer.

He should take his car off the platform — Uber or Taxify; since he is not okay with the services the platform is providing for him.

So long as he keeps his car on the platform, he is obligated to provide service according to the terms and conditions of the platform.

it is not ok if a rider engages you via uber, and then tries to initiate an offline trip
if the rider already has your contact from a previous trip, then the rider can engage you, outside of ubers platform

it is not ok if i walk into the honda place and tell the mechanic working on my vehicle, lets take this outside honda
it is not ok if the mechanic working on my vehicle tells me - lets take this outside honda
if i have collected the mechanics contact and have an issue in the future, i can call him and engage him directly outside of the honda place

people cannot even think of risk. take hustler mind a jump into a transaction with a person whose capability, capacity and character are not verified.
Thank you sir! 100% correct!
I wanted everyone to reason this out, but you have given them the expo.

In short, it is not Ok if rider or driver cheats the platform that brought them together. Shikena.

Actually, the question has been answered. The answer is logically hidden in the thread.

Since cheat is what you want to call it, ask your friend if he doesn't cheat too, even you too. Like that ijebu ode that you said you would cancel, if rider now offers to pay you 30k just for you to drop him off, won't you accept?
I can't help you if you cannot understand; plus I don't have the time to trade words. Please stop quoting me.

Thank you.

Been to Otta twice.

Festac too.

Na Lagos we Dey, if the road isn’t “that bad”, I’ll go. If I come across a road I feel I cannot ply, I simply tell rider that I cannot go beyond where I don reach and end the trip. That has happened twice.

lol. I'm sorry but this does not make sense. The strategy seem worse. You are obviously doing the same thing as others but with a more complicated approach. Except the driver forgets to ask, only then can this be applied. It comes with a cost, embarrassing yourself before a rider, having to plead for his or her understanding and bearing the cost of starting a trip that you were not paid for. The environment we live in demands you ASk where a rider is going before pick up or before starting a trip. Even though I don't do it all the time, especially in the early morning hours. It's one risk that is avoidable. End of story.
Your opinion, strictly. In the circles I move in, it's called integrity and customer service. It looks foolish on the surface, but trust me, it pays off for me big time.

So which is better?

Ask for destination and decide what to do on time,

or waste rider's precious time (who's Probably late for a meeting/flight) by first driving down for minutes wasting fuel, then spend several minutes requesting and waiting for another ride (who will probably also cancel and request another like you did), and also making rider go through the stress of getting refunds from uber which may come later than when rider needs it.
I don't understand your point. Both of us seem to be flogging a dead horse.

Let's allow the horse rest in peace.

You mean you end the trip after starting? Because that's the only legit way to know your rider's destination, or you would ask rider for destination? Remember that's against Uber's rules and regulations too just like asking for a trip to be done offline. Whichever one it is, you've gone against Uber's directives thereby committing an offense that suits you, so why frown at others for committing an offense that suits them just because its different from yours grin
The same thing goes for Mr holiness working upstream, everybody is a sinner, but not everybody will commit the same sin as yours so dont criticize. Leave that for he who has no sins
Let's not try to be holier than the Pope. In my hey days, I never ask riders for destination unless it is night; say from 8:00pm; because of security.

If during the day I accept a trip and I start the trip and see a destination I don't like, say, Ijebu Ode, I will simply apologize to the rider and tell him or her I can't go. I will tell the rider I am about to cancel the trip so you can request another car and also let the rider know he or she can sit in my car with the AC running until the requested car comes.

In this, I have not cheated the Uber or Bolt platform in any way, which is the point Ornicus was making. We shouldn't cheat the platforms.

Seriously, I still wonder why the apps can't display the riders destination before accepting a trip.

That way cancellations will b minimal, you got 15 secs to decide whether you are going to a place or not.

Infact riders will have reduced wait time. Cos whoever accepts the trip is already aware of where he is going. So no need of cancellation after accepting.

And the e companies can now profile the destinations mostly avoided by drivers n place their ' bonuses' on such areas to drive up acceptance rates.

That way everybody wins : the company, the driver, the rider.
You deserve beer.

Even if it is once, to me, it's unprofessional

But you know what? You had your reasons for doing that. You saw a reason that, I cannot see. I may not understand, but you really do.

And you the funniest part? I would probably reject the repairs just as you did

That's my point in this whole matter.
What makes rejecting Uber or Bolt trips unprofessional is because it is stated in the Ts and Cs before every driver signs up. Uber or Bolt OWN their platforms. They will decide what behaviors are professional or not ON THEIR platforms. If any driver likes it, fine, he or she can stay on THEIR platforms. If any feels otherwise, well, he or she can leave THEIR platforms.

Radautoworks OWNS HER platform. ONLY SHE will decide what's professional or not on HER platform. If any car owner doesn't like it, the car owner is free to go someplace else.

Being fraudulent is simply cutting uber out of the game, and according to your initial submission, no justifiable reason, how has the game changed for riders and not for drivers?

Christmas season is here again, we'll see riders using their platform to request trips to the east and other SW states. Our OP cannot simply understand the issues because he has not worn the shoes. For you, I guess it was a side hustle with your own car and you could afford to stick to whatever personal principles you choose.
Aside Nigeria, hasn't these ehail companies been having running battles worldwide?

As long as they keep paying fat salaries and bonuses to their executives without addressing their drivers concerns, these loopholes will continue to be exploited.

AFTER all the so called appropriate way to channel these issues to Uber, what have the town hall meetings of last year with Bolt produced.

These ehail companies keep proper track of where trips originate from and where it's almost impossible, why can't they factor return trips from places like Mowe, Agbara etc.

They know these things and as long as they don't address it, drivers and Riders would continue to negotiate offline trips.
You can't cut Uber or Bolt out of a deal it doesn't have in the first place. Let's say you request an Uber to Enugu. You, I and Uber know Lagos to Enugu trip is not possible on the app. This is an opportunity the platform is bringing for the driver. Rider knows he or she can link up with a driver through the platform. Rider wants to go to Enugu. The platform cannot deliver that service. Rider and driver negotiate a fee. Uber and Bolt tells rider and driver that the trip is at each party's risk despite the platform bringing both parties together. There is nothing fraudulent there.

Though I get your point , and I understand what you are pointing at.... I always thought there should be some sort of price option on Uber / bolt... that could engage the driver/ rider on renegotiation or some sort... and some other benefits aside bonus.

But that aside, coming to this forum, and assuming by the few numbers that u talk to here... that Nigerians are unemployable is rather irrational
Now this is the logical reasoning Ornicus was looking for: understand the problem, and create a solution that works for every stakeholder
BusinessRe: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by nitigriti(m):

Let's just understand one thing. The Uber rule that requires drivers not to ask or reject trips is worldwide, developed countries where things actually work, not naija. If you have ever driven your car across Babs Animashaun, Community Road, off Ago Palace Way, entered a deep pool of water, end up spending hundreds of thousands to fix it, you will understand why you should ask. A request once came my way of a man going to Epe on Uber. So, should I accept it because I want to be a nice guy and drive back empty? Uber does not care about what happens to you or your car, truth be told. So, why do I have to be a slave to the system? I turn down request to places that I deem as dangeous in terms of bad roads and otherwise. I will continue to do so. Accept such trips at your peril. This is Nigeria, not America. What applies there cannot apply here. That professional balderdash cannot and will never apply here with the road, security and economic situation.
Drivers on Uber and Bolt are free to reject or cancel trips they don't like. It is the reason it is possible to do both — reject or cancel — on both apps.

However, Uber and Bolt understand that not all trips will be a bad proposition to a particular driver; that's why they peg cancelation rates before penalty at a maximum, say 25%. Once any driver's cancellation rate goes above this threshold in a given week, the account is suspended.

A driver somewhere is looking for that same trip to Epe on Uber that you rejected. One man's poison is another man's meat.

We get his point but have you noticed that once in a while, his ilks shows up here and it always ends up with cocky and condescending submissions. I've also noticed that those with such complaints here never let go, always boast of great achievements in life but always have ZERO emotional intelligence.

That aside, the points listed for offline trips are valid. Now the riders who request for offline, are they also fraudulent?
Let me stop here for now.

I also did Uber during down times for 5months last year.
Good point!
And the honest truth is that the specific circumstance will tell if the rider requesting for the offline trip is being fraudulent or not.

Thank you sir.

At least, you can agree with me that while it isn't professional to reject trips, it is necessary because of the working conditions associated with it

Like I said, ornicus is right, but he may not understand the challenges involved

If you read about a driver fighting a rider because the rider refuses to pay, of course it will be unprofessional. But every driver knows that Bolt will NEVER REFUND OR PAY and driver that was defrauded by a rider

Many things are better left unsaid. I hope to see you someday sef.
Trust me sir, Ornicus understands the challenges and I do too, at least I've worn the shoes severally. What he is saying is, no matter how hard the ehailing driving circumstances are, we shouldn't forget a platform links us to the riders and that we owe ourselves a duty to deal honestly with the platform. And if we aren't satisfied with the services the platform offers us, we should revert through official channels. We shouldn't take it as an excuse to undercut the platform.

True sir!
Even Uber and Bolt understand drivers will reject a few trips. That's why drivers are only penalized when their rates of rejecting trips goes above a set limit. It's not professional to tell a rider, "I'm not going to your destination because the roads are bad; but I will go if we negotiate the trip offline." It's not professional and it's not right.

My opinion.

I quite agree with Ornicus to some point, but let me ask you, sir, two questions

1) Since it's wrong to reject trips, can you accept a trip from Festac to Agbara in this rainy season?

2) A trip from Festac to Agbara is roughly #3000. As a driver (which I know you once was), will you accept to do it online, since you don't see it professional to reject trips?
I love these questions!

1) I will accept Festac to Agbara online on a dry day so long as I can be back in Lagos (Egbeda) before 4:00pm. If I check Google maps to and fro and I see that I can't make it back before 4:00pm, I will reject and cancel the trip and let the rider know my reason.
As it is raining now, I cannot take the trip from Festac to Agbara.

2) I always did my trips online. If I feel a trip request will not pay me, I reject outright. I never try to convert an online trip to an offline one.

BusinessRe: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by nitigriti(m):
I did ehailing for 2 years. And yes, I did offline trips. But I never initiated them on my own or tried to convert an online trip to an offline one. A few examples:
1) A couple booked me offline for their wedding Saturday, Sunday and Monday; AFTER I carried them around Lagos for four hours plus as they did their shopping ONLINE without complaining;
2) There's a rider who works at Coca Cola, Agidingbi. He booked me online for a trip in Lagos, he enjoyed the trip and requested that I take him and his colleagues offline to Ibadan.
3) I remember picking up four Yahoo guys from my estate (gowon) on Uber. Their destination was Otta, around Covenant University. I explained to them that Uber trip will stop reading once I leave Lagos area and so I won't go. One of them offered that we should do the trip offline. I said no, let's do it online till toll gate, then I will end the trip; we will do #1,500 offline from toll gate to Covenant University and then you will give me #1,000 for fuel back to Egbeda, Lagos. The total is your bill; which was fair enough.

Ornicus's point is you don't cheat the platform that brings you and a rider together. I completely agree. I remember I once stated here it wasn't right to select trips and reject others; that it makes the service unreliable for riders and every driver suffers for it in the end.

The platform will bring its own opportunities; by all means, use those opportunities well. But don't cheat the platform. This is Ornicus's point.
