Positioning in places like shrine is good for finding trips, but risky. So here's how I go about it. I receive a trip, I call you. I ask where you are going to, how many riders, are we branching anywhere or going direct, are we picking other persons on the way or not, who is the person we are picking?
Then when the guys come, they will meet me standing by the car. I use eye gauge Dem as Dem dey come. If my spirit no gree, "Sorry guys, I can't go on this trip again. My fuel pump is acting up" ( then I try to start the car without success (security things)). I cancel, and if there is cancellation fee, I give you the #400 straight up. If there are more than 2 guys, I'm not going. If there is a guy and a lady, I will go, but the guy has to sit in front with me. And I tell them this very frankly, that it's for security sake. 2 guys and I will quickly evaluate and trust my instinct. Any number of ladies, I will go. In all cases, I don't stop along the road to poo, pee or buy anything. It's midnight, I won't stop.
Then I have a contingency plan. I'm at alert. There's this Parker pen I keep just beside the gear lever. If you think its a pen, you are on your own. There's also some twisted 20mm wire I keep on the dashboard. It's not koboko, and it's not on that dashboard for fun. It's for garrotting. I position my rear mirrors in such a way that I can see what's going on inside the car with my occupants. I keep the music very low. You need to be able to use your ears 100%. If you want me to blare music as we go, I'm not going.
Then your car is a defensive tool. If anyone in the car lunges at you, there's a way you can swerve that will get everyone in the car off balance; except you because na you dey make things happen. This will buy you time. My method will not work for everybody but I'm stubborn like that. If you will kill me, I will kukuma carry you go with me.
Toh, I don talk reach. |

darmilolah: I realize most drivers dont know whst it means to do night. To the old Gees in the house. What do we call night?
Let's school the newbie small. I know we have been abuse before that we are over pampered baby. That experience is not necessary in driving on Uber.
For the sake of innocent newbie. Let's help. Position with sense. For your personal safety and earnings guarantee. Think, "Who would be moving around town over night? Where would the person be? Where would the person be going?". The answers will tell you where and where to position for safety. 5 star hotels, VIP night clubs, VIP restaurants, (Kidnappers or robbers cannot afford these joints), Bank Head Offices, VIP and General Hospitals, Motor Parks (Eastern fleets), Venues where there are shows going on; etcetera |

nitigriti: This is my estate (Gowon). Ehailing drivers play a lot here. Requesting fake rides and cancelling. In my hey days, I had their medicine. I didn't learn tankers and bombers in secondary school for nothing. When I show up in the hood and I'm looking for a ride, I chase all of them out first. |

bozz007: In general, the e-hailing vehicle rental business wasn’t really a bad investment but fell short of expectations. It became worse since the turn of the year and I chose to exit before drivers run me mad. I decided to take stock and summarised below:
Cost. Vehicle purchased in July, 18 (lucky to get a very good deal) – N1m Repairs and maintenance (tyres, tracker, insurance, servicing for 7 months) – N300k Total expenditure – N1.3million
Returns. Total receipts for 7 months from 3 drivers – N586k (average of 83k per month..chai...instead of 120k) Car retired and sold in March – N1.2m Total receipts - N1.786m
Net profit – N486k.
Imagine if I was unable to sell the car at a good price, na loss be that.
The current state of the business is manageable for drivers driving their own cars. Between January and February (9 weeks), I received only 120k, which makes an average of 13k per week (even after I reduced rentals to 20k/week). Sharing between drivers and owners on rentals will continue leading to fight, as a driver will only pay after satisfying himself.
Wish y’all good luck, I’ve jumped to the other side of the fence. Gospel truth. All through. |

Cooladex: Pls how do you check if your fare is reading while on uber trip End the trip, DON'T CONFIRM. The current fare will show. There's a "back" button on the app, NOT YOUR PHONE. Press that back button, you will see the trip still in progress. Repeat again anytime you want to see the current fare, you will see the fare increasing as time and distance increases. Don't let the rider see you doing this ooo, rider will think you are playing some gimmick. |
