The avensis replaced camry in Europe so it's not solely an American vehicle. we import a greater % of cars from US so any vehicle not sold in US has limited presence in naija.

The avensis sits between the camry and corolla it's midsized vehicle. Majority you see on road were bought brand new in Nigeria.

why is avensis cheap?

Answer: it can't beat the camry in terms of offering neither is it close to the corolla in fuel economy.

is it a good car to buy, yes also fuel efficient and not a robbers magnet

problems only 1 I know of is cracked dashboard

UPDATE

Oil and oil filter have been replaced, yet car doesn't start. Before the change, it, at least, would start and shut down immediately, but now it doesn't even start at all. Smh. Diagnostic scan is still not displaying any error codes.

The 'Service now' message is gone, but the oil pressure warning is still there

you have the option of opening up the engine on the top cover and view what engine inside looks like, if there is sludge or not, also since its timing chain it could have expanded inappropriate timing and engine won't come alive. if I were in your shoes I would 1st

1. open up engine and check whether there is sludge, if no sludge

2. Timing should have set a code but since no code I will open sump to check for sludge, if no sludge

3. The oil pressure switch is next to be replaced if that doesn't fix it.

4. look for a VAG scanner and let it do the scanning magic. Also confirm all fuse and fuel delivering apparatus are in order. Ensure the scanner is communicating with ECU.

there is a difference between no codes found but scanner communicates with ECU and the scanner isn't communicating with ECU let the technician be explicit.

you should get in ladipo if you have a mechanic check to confirm whether yours is the 2.0 or 2.5.

There's an oil pressure warning on the display now

Using the principle of generator, a low oil quantity and degraded oil would cause engine to shut down immediately after starting or refuse to start.

Your engine starts but shutdown immediately fuel pump or faulty spark plug wires can also cause it.

Why don't you service the car again and see whether the issue would be fixed, it's time that hardex goes

Okay, so, this vehicle is a 2010 Volkswagen Passat CC and since yesterday it has refused to start. Actually, it starts but shuts down immediately.

There's a message that shows 'Service Now' on the multi-function display. We've run a diagnostic scan on the car and no codes abi faults were detected.

I don't know, is this a safety feature from Volkswagen that prevents the car owner from driving the car when it's due for an oil change or something? Are there any Volkswagen experts or vehicle owners who have experienced such?

Also, the car was last serviced in September 2018 and is not exactly due for service right now.

You are not through with your explanation. It stops on motion on express meaning it stalls on speed, when you kick it does it come on instantly or you have to let engine cool for some certain before it starts.

Also if your check engine light is on scan the vehicles for code, it may help narrow down you troubles.

Also your rpm does it dance up and down or its stable and does car vibrate extremely when cold or hot?

I want to buy her a 4cylinder engine car of the Toyota family with a good fuel economy, relatively cheap maintenance and good second-hand value too. I'm considering the big daddy Camry (was told not to go close to the 05 and 06 years cause of transmission issues among others), Matrix (my wife said she loves that) and the muscle Camry (I love big things). I've spoken with a number of friends and I get confused the more.

The cary big daddy 05 or 06 doesn't have transmission issues, it was fitted with 2azfe a 4cylinder Toyota engine which was known to burn oil and had stripped head bolt issue. Not all the 2azfe but some batch.

The matrix is a good solid vehicle has a 4WD version evident when you look under at the rear an axle is present so when you get such specimen remember to put axle oil to avoid damage of the axle.

The cary muscle is also good, the 2007 has gear issues a known factory defect, it also comes with the 2azfe from 07 to 09, the 10 and 11 had a better 2arfe engine.

your 1m can't get you a solid cary muscle that starts from 1.5m. The 05-06 cary would be cheaper as naija used 1st body can go for 850 to 900 the remaining change use it to fix to your taste.
To cut your expenses down ensure the specimen you select is inspected by a mechanic, it has already been fitted with alloy wheels pot holes cause steel rim deformity

Engine to cabin firewall is comprised so hot air from engine compartment getting into passenger cabin. let a panel check for the opening and fix

The car does not have that initial momentum when you put it on Drive (D) , But later it keeps changing perfectly from Gear 2 to 3 to 4 and 5.

The Reverse is perfect.

I did a scan to ascertain why the car has a low momentum while it is on Drive.

what came up was ========shift solenoid B malfunction.
