For the solar experts, Is it possible to set up solar system without batteries in Nigeria? Just the panels and inverter. This is for business that would operate only during the day.

How much do you pay for electricity per month?

n3xt:

For someone like me, I don’t apply cosmetic fix to structural issues. You’ll get burn out in the long run!

Our problem in Nigeria is systemic but we keep flipping people and throwing monies on cheap solutions.

You don’t stop recklessness and incompetence by simply changing people, you build systems that prevents it using technology.

Talking about power issues, Nigerians only believe that government should provide adequate power supply but we don’t have the balls to hold them responsible. Instead, we simply jump on half baked solutions and accept them as a way of life and an acceptable standard of living.

The picture below shows the former Vice President of Nigeria carrying a powerbank. That’s a typical mentality! Quick fix 😂

I’ve not had a need for powerbank in a long time because I’m staying in a place where electricity is 100% stable. And I never had to check if the battery is charging, low, optimized or underperforming.

I just plug and play. #insidelagos

Nigerians are fond of looking for cheap alternatives, shortcuts and wuruwuru solution to communal issues. This explains why we haven’t been able to address our electricity issue.

We buy solar systems, portable generators, candles, rechargeable lantern, rechargeable touch lights and all sorts to keep life going while shying away from our major problem.

In fact, some invest on silent cabin diesel generators are seen as sign of good living 😂😂

So to a typical naija man, my position is wrapped around flimsy excuses because I chose not to follow the crowd.

Well, that’s why I’m me!

Good evening Michlins your advice is needed please...

I already have 2100L tank at the site and intend to buy another 2100L to place on the stand...

So, here is the issue, I totally forgot to give the welder this information, only to remember this evening. To cut the long story short, he said the stand can't carry 2 of 2100L except 2 of 1500L at the top and that it can only carry 2100L in the middle... I asked him why and he said cos he is using 2m galvanized pipe whatever and we've already agreed on price @350... 200k has already been paid so please, what can be done now?

Note: we never discussed about what materials to be used cos I know nothing about it, I just told him that I needed an 18ft tank stand and he sent me the pictures below

Does this make sense to anyone "he said the stand can't carry 2 of 2100L except 2 of 1500L at the top and that it can only carry 2100L in the middle.."
So the stand can't carry total of 4200L but can carry 5100L or 3600L. Can someone explain the reason behind this? Thanks

Please has any done or has verifiable experience with underground water storage tanks?

I totally dislike those water tank stands as they're an eyesore, so exploring the option of underground water storage tanks.

I found these two designs online. Any thoughts from the experts in the house?

Where would the pressure come from? It looks more like a storage tank. From my personal experience, you need a pressurized tank that can deliver the water to the level you need it. The tanks are usually small. It will be filled with water from a water pump. As it goes down, the pump will replenish it. This requires constant electricity.
This is my experience.

We just moved into our house 3 weeks ago. A 2 Floor 5 Room Terrace in Abuja.
But there is an issue that we have been facing. Serious smell has been coming from different parts of the house, mostly from the toilets but now it's spreading to the lounges and today we started smelling it even in the living room downstairs. I have complained to a plumber sometime ago and he came to cover the opening for the Jacuzzi in the master toilet since we haven't bought it yet and one other place. But it has gotten worse sef. From my own personal observation that smell is coming strongly from the water vents (where you take your bath) and even directly from the WC and some even coming from the other outer vent in the bathroom (the one where water is to go through if you wash the bathroom). Where do we begin to permanently tackle such and issue. It's happening in all 3 floors and I don't think there is any toilet in the house that isn't smelling.

All of the options provided by previous members are valid point. If you have access to septic enzymes like Rid X, flush down the toilet once a month. You will be amazed with the reduction in smell and other stuffs.

It all comes down to value. If you find value in Starlink, go for it. If you don't, don't worry about.
Value is so much more than price. In this case, you have to look at comparison analysis. How much do you spend on your data for the past 1 year? Are you happy with the service? How reliable are the network? If MTN or Glo does it for you, that is fine.
What Musk brought is option. You now have an option to get unlimited data in Nigeria. The benefits are immense both for individuals and businesses.
20 years ago, most people did not see the value in cellphone but today, most can't go without their phone.

Politics / Re: CBN's "Naira Redesign" Policy Is A Charade. They Know It Won't Work by nwaorlu: 3:40am On Feb 04, 2023
Seun:

He is still printing money for Buhari to spend. If he was worried about inflation he ought to have stopped. The money he prints for Buhari is electronic money, not physical money. Therefore withdrawing notes has nothing to do with inflation. It is only going to crush the poor.

I find your argument troubling but I will try my best to offer counter argument why we need to support this policy.
Everyone knows that this policy will benefit the country tremendously but inflation is not one of the benefit of this policy. This, I will give you.
The new naira will absolutely do nothing for the inflation. Inflation is about money not only cash.

It will reduce crime.
Have you ever entered Nigeria banks? Money everywhere, in bags. Why?
No economy that wants to be taken seriously will run on cash economy like Nigeria.

Before I go into details why we need to take a moment and give the policy a chance, I understand how some people are genuinely affected by this policy. These people affected does not deserve this, and this should not have happened.
Nothing that has happened or happening is new. It is all foreseeable. Are we shock that some bankers sold the cash? Are we surprised that it will take time for the cash to trickle down to rural areas? These pains are real. But we are making it worse for them.
Ask yourself this question today, do you really need 50k cash in your pocket? Most people in the town can go about their business everyday without cash. Filling stations accept POS, most popular supermarkets accept POS. Why is everyone running to the bank for cash?

Like I said from the beginning that benefits are tremendous. Wouldn't you like to live in a country where there are few bank robbery? Limited availability of naira means no more free cash to steal at the banks. Money does not only mean cash.
Low level kidnapping will decrease. If naira is scare, good luck finding N1m to withdraw cash. How will the kidnappers want their money?

Corruption will also be reduced. Money trail is a lot easier to track when it is online versus when it is cash.

The biggest argument on the side of people that are against this policy is timing or not enough time. Timing could be better but duration is more than enough. For a reference, India did same thing in 2016 under 50 days cash swap. It can be done.

In the midst of the storm, you found peace. God let your will be done.

Yes
Here are more complex type

When it comes to water pressure from overhead tank, I think all of you are correct in a way. Apart from preference in water pressure (what is satisfactory to me might not work for you), there ways to achieve a decent water pressure for shower.

It is acceptable that the higher the tank the more pressure of the water flow. I think Michlins take is the value in raising such a taller tank stand.

There are many ways to achieve "excellent" water pressure without building tower of David.

First, you must run the pipes from the tank to top most floor directly. (This is the reason why the pressure of water on the roof is better than the one on a stand of the same height.) It does not look neat but it works. Then work your way down the floors. The idea of running the pipe down first before going upstairs waste some pressure.

Secondly, you must incorporate pipe reduction to achieve better water pressure. Pvc or copper pipe reducers should not be hard to find.

In the end, you just want to enjoy shower and forget about stress.

When we start having 24/7 electricity this small thing will replace those heavy tanks

Same goes for the toilet thing. Strong institution is what Nigeria needs

"Strong institution" cost money. It costs civilized nations money to discipline their citizens. Incarceration is not cheap, unless you guys are advocating for capital punishment.
The best way for Nigeria is to build strong moral values. This should start from the family. Raise the kids to know right from wrong. Do this, and the future will take care of itself.

Delivered this to a site an engineer is working on last Saturday

I am not sure but let me ask. From the picture of the door, it looks like a full frame door. Meaning, it is flush on both side of the wall. So if it is a 9 inch wall, it will have a trim on both sides of the door.
I am not buying now but admiring your work. Good job.

The Biofil digester is an advance system of decomposition and disposal of sewage through anaerobic decomposition and micro organism whereby the human waste is breakdown into liquid and then transfered down to the soak away or drainage or garden.

While Biogas is an advance technology where the human waste and animal dungs are converted to cooking gas for domestic use.

Biotechnology gives you a lots of advantages.

ADVANTAGES OF THE BIO DIGESTER

 Biofil requires just a small space (max. of 8ft x 3ft x 3ft)

 No more Periodic sewage evacuation

 No Air/environmental pollution (odour)

 No more Cockroaches and flies

It saves a lot of money when installed in estates, farms etc where high waste is generated we have more gas to produce.

No Location barrier (swampy or dry land)

 Easier to maintain

 Saves time during construction

 Can be use for irrigation

Just wondering, for the bio digester, can't one just pour bacteria enzymes (green gobbler) into the soak away every so often to increase decomposition.
How does one harvest the gas from the biogas?

Thanks for the information. Something different.

The deck as of yesterday morning and yesterday evening. The remaining casting was completed with 68 bags@900.
All forming works for the first floor started yesterday morning for area casted day before yesterday. We were able to achieve 70% of the block works on the first floor and raise the wall to lintel level. 5 masons worked @50/block and l booked labourers to supply the blocks @15/block to the first floor which brings the total to @65/block. Funny enough the masons insisted on 70/block initially but accept 50/block when l split the price but their labourers will not supply block to the first floor.

Appreciate your transparency

There’s something patently wrong with most Nigerian artisans.

It is lack of exposure (both the owners and artisans) and inadequate skills.
